My back "went out on me" on 10/9 and the pain was excruciating. It was the 4th time in 12 years that I've had that happen. I was intending to visit North End Acupuncture at first, but I was unable to find an opening, so I ended up at a different acupuncturist. My experience there was okay in that it brought some relief, but it wasn't very thorough. Afterwards, I received an email from North End Acupuncture letting me know they had an opening on Sunday and I jumped on the chance— and I'm so very grateful that I did! My doctor was Mr. Caleb Hung and I can say without hesitation that he is a master of his practice. Over the past 20 years I've had acupuncture in South Carolina, Massachusetts, Florida and in Jamaica, but I've never experienced the level of care, warmth and expertise that Dr. Hung emulates. I was able to visit him for two different treatments and I noticed immediate and significant improvement in my lower back pain and mobility. Dr. Hung has a powerful healing vibration, a glowing smile, a humble spirit, and he brings many many years of expertise to his treatments. I received acupuncture (and electro-acupuncture) moxabustion, gua sha, tuina, and an herbal prescription from Caleb— all of which were expertly administered with the highest levels of care and attention. In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed learning a little bit about Dr. Hun's own journey in life. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND North End Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine clinic to all. When we began working together I was concerned with my difficulties walking as I had an upcoming trip that centered around sightseeing on foot. She treated my hip and shoulder from every angle with a plan based on my symptoms as well as her keen intuition. Fantastic experience: I cannot speak highly enough about North End Acupuncture, especially Philip Barlow. I began seeing Philip in December 2024 for a persistent gastro-related issue I’d been dealing with since August 2022. After seeing multiple doctors with little to no progress, I turned to acupuncture as a "last resort", which now will be the first place I turn to moving forward. During my first appointment Philip spent a full hour going over my health history in detail, and I can confidently say I’ve never felt so heard or understood by someone in the medical field. We started with weekly sessions, gradually shifting to bi-weekly and then monthly as I improved. Thanks to Philip’s thoughtful care, my gastro issues have been fully resolved and I no longer require regular treatment. On top of that, Philip has also helped me recover from a few short-term colds and illnesses using a combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine. The entire team at North End Acupuncture has created such a warm, welcoming, and peaceful environment which made every visit something I looked forward to. I cannot recommend them enough!

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Milana for a couple months now. I went in for hyperthyroidism, Graves’ disease. It has helped more than I could have ever imagined. Helped manage/completely disappear my hives due to medication. Helped with over heating and rapid heart rate. Over time we have added points for migraines, foggy brain and anxiety. Fantastic experience: There’s nothing better than getting needles inserted by an Adonis sporting a man bun, leopard paw print tattoos, and an OM symbol to boot. Phil knows acupuncture meridians better than Lao Tzu knew the Tao—no exaggeration. His treatments even carried over into the fitness classes I took at SLT, and he spoke so nicely about me there. I’m tempted to give four stars instead of five, only because I wish Phil used 24-karat gold needles (they use them in St. Barths, where I vacation) and sent slightly more attractive women to chaperone my fitness classes—Frida Aasen would be perfect next time. If you want acupuncture that will literally follow you around wherever you go, like an Apple AirTag, make Phil your pill.

Fantastic experience: I was struggling with a high ankle sprain for several weeks with no improvement. I went to North End Acupuncture off a recommendation from a friend and after one session with Milana I felt immediate relief. I was able to walk comfortably for the first time in weeks. Fantastic experience: I like to get massages to help with pain relief from previous sports injuries and a pretty bad car accident. After a while though I felt like I needed something more to get the lasting results I wanted. That’s when I decided to try acupuncture and noticed major improvements. Most recently I had bursitis on my elbow that was very painful. It was difficult to do my day to day tasks and I thought I might need to take time off work. After 2 treatments with Alexia I was pain free, my elbow wasn’t bright red anymore, and the inflammation in my elbow was nearly gone. I highly recommend getting acupuncture for both acute and chronic injuries. I see Alexia for acupuncture. She’s great! She asks questions to understand how pain impacts my day to day life and she always checks in every appointment to make sure there’s improvement or to see if there are any new issues. Fantastic experience: I originally found North End Acupuncture on google and was so happy to find an acupuncturist who was available on Fridays and Saturdays. Seeing Alexia has become part of my weekly to biweekly Saturday routine. I started seeing her in Feb 2024 and have noticed a huge difference with my feelings of anxiety and mind/body connection. Fantastic experience: I cannot emphasize enough how life changing working with Danny has been. When I came in I was having anxiety, strange breakouts on my cheeks, and overall I felt imbalanced. Danny is clearly extremely experienced and his treatments have made a huge difference in my mind/body. My skin has been clear ever since my 3rd or 4th treatment. Fantastic experience: I’ve been seeing Danny at North End Acupuncture since March for neck & back pain, numbness due to neck stenosis, sciatica & hot flashes, sweating due to menopause. I wasn’t sure what to expect & was a little nervous when I went to my first appointment. Within minutes, Danny put me at ease with his calming personality. The initial consultation was very thorough. Danny went over all my issues and asked a lot of questions, took notes & really paid attention to what I was saying. Danny is extremely kind, calm & patient. I have difficulty laying in certain positions that are necessary to access the treatment points, so Danny goes to great lengths to patiently work with me to find a way to make me comfortable. I’ve noticed an improvement in my back & neck pain. After the first treatment for sciatica, I was surprised how much better it felt. But, my biggest surprise was the sweating stopped after the very first treatment for hot flashes! I get a little warm a couple times a day, but no sweating! Also, it’s very convenient that he’s there Saturdays & Sundays.

Fantastic experience: In 2017 I was first introduced to acupuncture. I had been skiing in Nevada and tore my ACL. While undergoing surgery I had a spinal cord stroke and lost feeling from my waist down. I was terrified and was told that there was no way to know if I will ever regain feeling. I sent several days in the hospital and was transferred to Spaulding rehab in Charlestown. I was told that the nerves apparently repair 1 millimeter per day. It was suggested by my neurologist that I look into acupuncture as I was being discharged. I knew that I had a long road ahead of my involving physical therapy and occupational therapy. I had regained some feeling by the time I had left rehabilitation but still had extreme numbness in my legs and almost complete numbness in my feet. I required crutches to walk and was out of work unable to work and also unable to drive. I was open to doing anything and everything that may aid in my recovery. I did my research and found North End Acupuncture and am so grateful that I did! I immediately felt comfortable with Philip; He is so knowledgeable and professional-and has great bedside manner. I went to acupuncture 1x per week; each time I had a session I would feel tingling (nerves coming alive) either that day or the next. I felt so hopeful! Philip also used some cupping techniques and prescribed Chinese herbs that would improve blood flow/increase circulation. Week after week there was progress as each week I regained feeling in my legs and feet. Each appointment/MRI I had with my neurologists they were shocked with my progress. Over the course of time I had a full recovery! I regained full sensation from the waist down, no devices/walking aides needed! I am confident that I would not be where I am without having had the combination of acupuncture and the herbs prescribed. I can’t emphasize enough how incredibly grateful I am that I found Philip and North End acupuncture. As I had such incredible results from seeing Philip and acupuncture; I opted to do acupuncture in November following an awful accident. I was vacationing in Aruba and while driving an ATV I hit a rock and was thrown from the ATV. As I was driving on a rocky trail my fall was onto rock. The ATV rolled and landed on top of me. The paramedics checked me out and my scrapes were attended to. It was determined that nothing had broken. I was in excruciating pain as I landed on my back and had a deep gash on my elbow. I returned back to Boston and was alarmed, as my wounds were not healing. In fact they seemed to be getting worse. Additionally, my lower back was quite swollen and very sore. I met with Philip and he gave me some Chinese herbs for the internal trauma and did acupuncture. He also recommended that I get my wounds looked at, as there seems to be an infection. It turns out I has staff infection- my elbow and lower back wound. I agreed to take antibiotics for 3 days. Philip gave me some additional Chinese herbs to combat my infection. My wounds healed quickly and may not even scar! 3 sessions/3 weeks later; My lower back pain subsided quickly as did the swelling. Once again I’m grateful to Philip at North End acupuncture!

He has helped bring energy back from an old C-Section scar, has given me herbs to help the pain in my eyes, to help with stress and give me more energy. Fantastic experience: I began seeing Philip over two years ago when he was an intern at Boston Medical Center. I was having terrible Plantar Faciitis pain and found no relief from my primary care doctor or physical therapist. After over a year of pain, my doctor began pushing for surgery even though I was hesitant to go that route. Instead I began researching alternative medicine for pain management and began seeing Philip for acupuncture at the hospital. Within 2 treatments my foot pain was reduced by about 90% and after 4 treatments the pain was completely gone and has not since returned. I have continued to see Philip at his private practice at North End Acupuncture for various issues. Around 6 months ago my husband and I began fertility treatments as we have had some issues getting pregnant over the last 3 years. I had a cyst on my ovary that was removed leaving me with only one functional ovary and my husband had a low sperm count with low motility. We both began fertility acupuncture treatments with Chinese herbs last year and within 2 months I was pregnant. The pregnancy has continued on course and I am due in June. I have no idea how all of this works, but it does. My husband had his sperm tested after treatment and his number of "healthy" sperm was four times higher than it was prior to treatment and his sperm motility had increased by almost 50%. Simply amazing. I cannot say enough about the care I received from Philip. He is compassionate, caring and patient, and is truly one of the best acupuncturists in Boston.
