NEW Health: Reviews
Negative experience: I do not recommend New Health. My doctor is stretched across multiple locations, leaving non-medical staff to handle patient care while she just signs off. Follow-ups are poor, and continuity of care is basically nonexistent. When I raised concerns, I received a dismissive and unprofessional response. The clinic also issues unnecessary provider letters and charges for tests I can already access in my medical record. I requested my records and to change my doctor, and I’m still waiting—despite the fact that these are my legal rights. Overall, New Health feels like a business run for profit, not a clinic focused on patient care. If you value proper follow-up, efficiency, and respectful treatment, look elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: I have been coming here for 7+ years. Very convenient location for those who work in the area. Pharmacy and lab on site. Dr. Luk is great and so are the nurses and MAs!
Negative experience: I've been coming to NEW for over 25+ years. The doctors and nurses in charge of my care are exceptional. My issue is with prescriptions sent to the pharmacy. There's always a problem with them being in limbo for extraordinarily long times. Some medications are emergent and very necessary and others are flexible. Currently, I've been waiting for an rx to be sent to the pharmacy since 7/2. Everyday I call or send a message through the portal and I get, "I see it just has to be sent over. We'll take care of that." I'm now almost a month out with a prescription that has been approved by my doctor and Blue Cross. I feel forgotten and unimportant. It's not a true representation of the care I've received here but it's extremely frustrating nonetheless.
Negative experience: I pay less by going to the urgent care instead of going to the doctor there. This is crazy expensive for nothing. Don't bother asking for a doctor here. They don't want to heal you, they want your money. The doctors are working like they are in a factory, sending you off when done with just the minimum. Honestly, for that service level, I'd rather stick to the urgent care.
Fantastic experience: Personal clasificado, excelente atención.
Negative experience: So unprofessional! First they lost a test sample, then they told me to call the physician who ordered the test (even though they LOST the sample), then Trish refused to transfer me to her supervisor after she blamed me for the lost sample, I sent a message to Susan G who is supposed to be in charge of the clinic but she couldn’t be bothered to contact me. Trish repeatedly talked over me, Jessica a sent me on a wild goose chaise, leadership can’t be bothered. I wouldn’t trust these unprofessionals with a hangnail.
Negative experience: This place stinks. The dentist refers to themselves as "general dentists" so they take over 2 months just to get a retainer. It's been 2 months and some change and I've had to call their office 3 times to ask them about the status and get them to actually call my insurance provider as if I'm their manager. They took 4.5 weeks just to file the appointment and my request for a retainer within their own office...It's pretty pathetic considering I went for my initial visit 6 months ago, they told me I was grinding my teeth at night and needed a night guard, took 3 months to finally get an estimate, then went in to go get checked out and they say they were wrong and I would be better off with a retainer. It's been over 2 months since they said I need a retainer and I still don't know how much the retainer is even going to cost...Also, the physicians aren't any better considering they couldn't complete some of their procedures and charged me full price for failed procedures. The only people in this office who are competent enough to do their job are the people in charge of lab work.
Negative experience: I recommend avoiding this place if you can. They injured my shoulder and then charged me $100s of dollars in follow-up visits to address an injury they caused! During follow up visits they ignored my requests for an ultrasound or mri and none of their “treatments” eased my pain. I finally gave up and went somewhere else where I was given an ultrasound and actually helped.
Fantastic experience: Went for first time Dental and had a excellent customer care service both at the front desk and from the dental staff. The dentist Leah Briscoe took care of regular teeth cleaning with much care and recommended for future Deep teeth cleaning..The Dentist is very knowledgeable and highly recommended...My teeth looks better now and safe for any dental precautions...Highly appreciate their customer and excellent dental care service...
Negative experience: Definitely a miss. I have been to this place couple of times and every time the reception talks very rudely. She legit started yelling at me at the reception instead of trying to help me. They are extremely rude and the places keeps charging you for things that they say are included in your insurance. Really bad communication. Do not recommend.
Positive experience: Hit or miss. Overall people are nice but really depends on which dentist you get. One dentist, Dr. Anna, was quiet good, and the other one was absolutely terrible. She could not see a hole 1/4” in size in the second molar and was arguing repeatedly that it was not there. On the third request, she finally took a proper look. Also grinding a crown to make it fit better just to scratch it and expose the underlying metal. You get the idea. I stopped going there after this. Front desk stuff can be a bit dicey as well.
Positive experience: I’ve taken my children here for pediatric care for 15 years. And I can say that the clinical team is excellent. I also now go here for optometry eye exams. As I’ve grown so weary of typical optometrist offices located in the back of an eye glasses chain store. Where you have to run the gauntlet through the overpriced hard charging sales people. None of that foolishness here.
Fantastic experience: i just had the best experience with the NP at waterfront health. Not only was she kind and encouraging but she made the process feel manageable. She eased my anxieties and was INSANELY HELPFUL!! Highly recommend.
Positive experience: This place is very clean the doctor is so far seem to know their work thus far I would recommend if you want good service
Fantastic experience: Been a patient here for years for both PCP and behavioral health and while it might not be the BEST office, the doctor's here really try to address your concerns. They seem like they're understaffed, but from the time they come into the room until the time they leave to see another patient you have their undivided attention. I've had 2 PCP's and both of them have been incredible.
Negative experience: They waited until 11:15 to call me and tell me the doctor was out for my 11:30 appointment. The medical staff have been fine but administratively the practice can be a real mess.
Positive experience: You got your good doctors you got your bad
Fantastic experience: Everyone from the front desk to nurse practitioners, nurses, doctor's all are very knowledgeable. Very helpful.
Fantastic experience: First time at dental and had a really positive experience. I have mass health and it was easy to set an appointment within a week of me calling and easy to set up a follow up appointment too. The dentist was super informative and friendly
Fantastic experience: Great place
Negative experience: Very disappointed to receive a bill 6 months after my visit, after confirming with my health insurance and with North End Waterfront Health that my insurance was accepted and my visit was covered (with the exception of the contact evaluation, which was paid for out of pocket on the day of the visit). Everyone from the provider to the health insurance was misleading about what my out of pocket costs would be, and 6 months later they are now charging me for services that I was told were covered.
Positive experience: Friendly doctor office
Negative experience: Would not recommend for the following reasons: - Unprofessional staff: When I got blood work, the first thing the person drawing the sample said to me was "there are too many drugs in this place." This made me uncomfortable - Low visibility on fees: A full blood work panel was ordered despite it not being covered by insurance. I was charged $250, and no one explained this. Additionally, when I first enrolled in the program, I met with Dr Lee for a "virtual" onboarding visit. For 30 minutes we discussed everything except my health. I was charged $150. - Customer service lack of empathy: when I called seeking additional justification for procedures not covered by insurance, my questions were met with one-word answers, and I needed to ask multiple follow-ups to extract the information I needed
Fantastic experience: Been coming here for years, love coming down to this community. Love my Doctor's and Nurses and all the support ❤️ staff fir holding everything together you all rock.
Positive experience: My primary doctor recently started treating patients there. She changed medical groups so I followed her. Suo yi Lee is the best!
Negative experience: I have been going to NEWHC for over 20 years. During the majority of that time my PCP was Dr. Ramos who was amazing but is no longer with NEWHC. I assumed the standard of care received by Dr. Ramos and her nurse Beth would be similar with the other PCP's at the practice. Boy was I wrong. I have since tried two different PCP's at the clinic and have felt unheard and disrespected by both, and when I try to ask follow up questions to the doctor they reacted to me very defensively. I left being told my condition is "A medical mystery" and with no guidance or assistance as to what to do to help handle the situation. Very Disappointed.
Fantastic experience: New patient and love this place. Would recommend to anyone. Doctors and staff have gone out of their way to help and be attentive. Additionally a very clean place. Might have to look for parking but best Health Care facility I have been to in years.
Negative experience: Do not go here. Staff are extremely rude (especially front desk/phone operators). My main problem is that I was misled into thinking that I wouldn't be charged for titers and blood work that were necessary for me to matriculate to medical school and months later, I ended up being charged $3000 for basic blood work that would have cost a quarter of the price to do out of pocket at CVS because my insurance denied them. I have no money to pay for this and my PCP (Dr. Paul Ketro) and the rest of the medical team couldn't care less. when I reached out to ask questions, they ignored me for months and pretty much just said sorry figure it out yourself. The people at this clinic absolutely do not care about you and are extremely irresponsible. They are not really part of Mass Gen but still charge Mass Gen prices, hence the reason why I got charged so much for basic stuff. My interactions with these people have informed me about what NOT to be like a future doctor, so I guess thanks for a $3000 lesson on being a good medical provider.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Amazing care. Thanks!
Positive experience: I come here for dental and vision and have nothing but the best to comment on. The staff is very welcoming and I have always gotten great care, despite a rather frequent turnaround of the dentists (typically they change every 3-4 years). Currently Dr. Singh has displayed a patience and level of care totally beyond ordinary, and her assistant Syrin is nothing less; Silva who manages the back office is equally friendly and accommodating in every way. Donnie has made me two pairs of eyeglasses that are spot-on! Thank you so much to all of you
Negative experience: Phone operator is rude and refuses to listen. She completely stonewalls any attempt to speak to a department professional. Might want to revisit the "helping patients" part of the job description.
Fantastic experience: I tell everybody that my Doctor is Cinderella. In this wretched US health care system, where doctors are exploited and spend their days like hamsters on a treadmill, Dr. Patel has managed to put the well-being of her patients first. As a provider I remember coming across a very disadvantaged patient, one who would typically be neglected by the our crass health care system. I asked the patient many questions about Dr. Patel, and the patient confirmed with confidence that she treated him/her with dignity and the highest level of compassion, authenticity, and respect. When I first met her she spent so much time with me and made me feel wonderful. She has also helped me add decades onto my life, as she is constantly researching the best, most preventive treatments. She knows how to do things that many doctors cannot, and understands the true root cause and most effective treatments for illness. As a provider in private practice I almost feel guilty getting care at a Community Health Center, but I want a doctor who is kind to the poor, sensitive to vulnerable populations, etc. I feel they make the best doctors who truly look out for patients. In this wretched US health care system with many "wicked stepsisters" and "evil stepmothers" Dr. Patel is Cinderella.
Negative experience: Staff is unfriendly and unhelpful. They turned me away twice with essentially no explanation.
Negative experience: Dont go if injured - appears on google maps as urgent care, is not urgent careand they will not treat you
Negative experience: Have left multiple voicemails to schedule an eye appointment, still have not been able to contact anyone. Moving on from this place and going to try and find somewhere else for an eye exam.
Negative experience: The dentist did a horrible work on my teeth I never had such poor care...Saracen.
Negative experience: Neighborhood North End Resident wanting covid test - when I called in they said it would cost me $40 to have the testing done ... receive multiple bills from MGH later. Should have been upfront about the additional expense of the test as I would not have gone back for additional tests knowing the hidden fees for the laboratory testing. Program was advertised to protect the north end community. Highly disappointed in the lack of clarity / lack of explanation on what other fees would be incurred for people with / without symptoms.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient at NEW Health in the North End for nearly 10 years and wouldn’t want to go anywhere else for my primary care. First of all, I’ve never had an issue getting an appointment and they also have evening appointments a couple of days a week, which is fantastic. It’s so convenient for me as I live in the neighborhood and their affiliation with Mass General Brigham also makes it convenient when I have a referral to an MGH doctor, since they’re also located nearby. I feel comfortable with my PCP, Dr. Martha McLoughlin, and always know she is listening at both sick visits and my annual physical. The front desk staff is also friendly. NEW Health is a great part of our community!
Hi Mary! We're so happy to hear about your positive experiences at NEW Health. Thank you for your review.
Negative experience: Terrible COVID testing experience: unclear instructions, difficult to hear since workers are behind several layers of glass without speakers, rude employees, and worst of all an incredibly unsanitary environment wherein they use the same gloves for all guests that are being held less than a few millimeters from your face due to abnormally short swabs after potentially covid infected patients breathe right on them. If I didn’t have COVID going in I probably had it coming out.
Negative experience: Terrible. Front desk “professionals” seem mad that you are bothering them. What’s the opposite of care? That’s their specialty. Avoid like the DMV worker plague.
Negative experience: My son was a patient of Dr. Turnock at this center in April 2015 and when he was only one month old at his first appointment she did a procedure without my permission right in front of me which basically sent him into the ER a few weeks later when he was administered antibiotics at such an early age. She also advised not to wash him which made his infection worse. Her team is also irresponsible and down right rude. After seeing a specialist for the infection which Dr. Turnock caused we were asked to do a test which was important to his well being and Dr. McLaughlin who is also with this center refused to do it and actually made me do it myself. Besides this she didn't put gloves on after i asked her to and refused to check my son's throat when I explained that her hands were dirty which is also unprofessional and disturbing. Overall I am astonished at the fact that the doctors at this practice put my baby into the ER and as a direct result of their malpractice we had to take care of our hurt infant who was fully healthy prior to our visit to this center. And for the past several months rather than enjoy the beautiful moments with our baby we had to frantically look for a responsible pediatric care and were in the ER twice. I even wrote them a letter explaining our feelings about this matter and never even received an apology! I would never recommend these people and would advise other mothers to stay away from this center. These "pediatricians" are dangerous and should not have the privelage to hold a medical license.
Fantastic experience: My provider is NP Curran she is attentive, compassionate, kind and relatable. They always try to accommodate specially for sick visit and takes time to address the issues.
Negative experience: If you want to be operated on by a newly graduated student, then go here. I got a filling done , the filling is above the tooth and cant bite normal or chew....stay away and choose your dentist wisely.
Negative experience: How absolutely rude. You advertise as urgent care but when I came in and asked the front desk said “it depends”. Not because you don’t do xrays but you just decide who you want to see. Well I was clearly ill so I’m not sure what I would “depends” mean. Especially since my husband has been for urgent care many times. Then further insult accrued when they asked me about my insurance and I jokingly said “does any one know if it’s ppo or hmo”? To which your staff said “yes you should” and proceeded to speak to me in a very belittling way. When I refused to stay and see a doctor after they said they would try to squeeze me in I heard the older woman laugh at me as I exited. I hope when those women get ill someone never treats them as poorly.
Negative experience: Never been here before, but one of the practitioners here (old white guy) was on his way in, I'm guessing, shortly before 9am and walked by me at the unofficial smoker spot by 7 E. He made a point of stopping and peering closely down at me (I'm female) and then tried to pry the locked gate open beside me, as though suggesting I go in there to have a cigarette. He then stupidly says, "it's dirty here," while motioning towards the cigarette butts strewn on the ground from countless smokers. Yeah, like the rest of the city! But maybe it's his first time in a city, or the North End, who knows. Or maybe he just walks around with a sense of entitlement and smug superiority, thinking it's okay to stop and deride strangers who're minding their own business. He then asks if I lived there. Been a resident in this neighborhood for 7 years, and that's the first time I've been harassed by someone for having a cigarette in peace. I'd encourage this miserable person to stop by the different cafe's and restaurants in the neighborhood to lecture/deride the Italian men smoking outside, instead of being selective. Be consistent and fair! Don't be a wuss! That way all the smokers in the North End will quit just to please this guy. This one practitioner lacking in civility and manners but has an excess of entitlement is reflective of the type of treatment you'll probably get here. Yikes!
Positive experience: The reception you really don’t want to see them again but My PCP Martha McLoughlin is Awesome that’s why I go there!!!
Negative experience: The front desk woman sitting on the right corner after you enter, does not know how to talk to patients and visitors, very inattentive.
Fantastic experience: Been a patience of Dr. John Foster there for the past 15 years. He's fantastic and the staff is great. Always easy to deal with .
Fantastic experience: My PCP, Rebecca Patel, always takes the time to answer all of my questions never making me feel rushed through appointments. She doesn't hesitate to write referrals if I have concerns outside of her scope of practice, and always has a warm approach to her practice. She also specializes in women's health, which means I don't have to see a GYN in addition to a PCP. Highly recommend!
Negative experience: Showed up for an Appointment that the dentist wasnt there for, and they had not contacted me to tell me.
Fantastic experience: The staff and the doctors are incredible.
