Our comment from Nutrifinder.net about NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst:

NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst is a community hospital located in Queens, New York. While the facility has faced numerous complaints regarding overcrowding and long wait times, many patients have also expressed gratitude for the care they received. Some of the positive aspects highlighted by users include:

  • Compassionate Nurses: Despite some negative experiences, several reviews commend specific nurses, such as Ayesha Akter and Roberta Perez, for their exceptional bedside manner and care.
  • Emergency Care: Acknowledging the challenges caused by the overwhelming patient volume, many patients reported receiving prompt attention for urgent medical needs during their visits.
  • Diverse Medical Staff: The hospital's staff includes professionals from various backgrounds, which has positively impacted patient experience, especially among non-English speakers.
  • Imperfections and Improvements: Long-time patients have noted improvements over the years and appreciate the ongoing efforts to enhance care standards.

However, there are significant concerns raised by users, including:

  • Staff Communication: Many patients reported poor communication from nurses and doctors, leading to feelings of neglect and frustration.
  • Overcrowding and Wait Times: The emergency room has been characterized as overcrowded, with patients experiencing long waiting times that can extend for hours.
  • Poor Patient Management: Multiple reviews indicate a lack of organization and poor responsiveness from staff, which can exacerbate the stress of being in a medical environment.

In summary, NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst seeks to provide essential healthcare services to the community, but it faces significant challenges that need addressing to ensure all patients receive the quality care they deserve. Improvements in staffing, communication, and emergency response could greatly enhance the patient experience.

Negative experience: No emphaty for patients, I saw no doctors at all. Only incompetent nurses walking around in circles is really disgusting. How could they ask you to rate your pain if they won't do anything anyway this hospital need big changes or just to shut down!!!!

Negative experience: This hospital should be shut down or investigated for wrongful deaths if you are old they will force you to die and tell you there is nothing they can do and rob you of insurance money. They forced me to put my Mom an elderly woman to death! They gave my family misery and guilt. Don't trust the palliative care it is really speed up death and they force you to put your loved ones down and bully uneducated elderly folks I truly regret bringing her there BEWARE they lie it was their fault they did not treat the right conditions 3 times

Negative experience: This place is full of invalidting providers. I probably been to the ER like 10times and had to beg as they wanted to discharge me. I was sobbing in pain and then they tested more to find a kidney infection once. I recently went for 15hours and got told I’m fine and later in the notes read “patient said pain improved” I never said that, I was in pain and got refused to get a ride home even tho it was 5am. Will never go to the ER. Please please stay away from the behavioral center. None of the therapists or psychiatrists know about diagnosis. I had them read textbooks to help me and got told no one in the hospital was treat one of my diagnosis. And got called “entitled” for asking for a referral. All my concerns was ignored by the supervisor. I reported it and nothing. Got told it was my fault. I had to leave after being there for years. They disrespected all my boundaries and I wish I can write all the words and things I got told during treatment and as I was suicidal. Quite disgusting!! Train your doctors with PhDs apparently and get them trauma informed workshops. The amount of time I got told I didn’t knew my needs and they did. And got told my trauma was my fault which I believed for years. And to stop being a “victim” as I just got out of the psych ward. You don’t have to believe me or care about me but please don’t invalid someone’s pain and tell them to “move on” One therapist and I quote told me “If people in the holocaust could move on, you can too so stop talking about it” just so she could read from the textbook. I appreciate the effort but also frustrated I was teaching them my diagnosis and symptoms which they refused to believe. Thanks for ruining my mental health further and needing further therapy to stop the words I got told to stop echoing in my mind.

Negative experience: The worst hospital ever. I really want to give them -10stars. You will see that we never seen any places have this bad reviews for many years and keep going down because they never been improved themselves.

Negative experience: This is the worst hospital I have ever been to and I only came because it was local and an emergency. Most of the nurses and doctors lack communication, understanding, and care. Thankfully my daughter is okay, but the staff is a mess. They come into the room and start messing with my daughter's oxygen machine without telling me what they are doing. Then when you ask, they act like they don't want to answer. You should not feel comfortable coming into the room doing anything without explaining yourself. You can tell they are used to people not speaking up for themselves here. My daughters monitor kept going off because the wires were moving all around, you would think the nurses would come in to check to see what's going on because they can see on their end... but no I have to go out the room and tell a nurse to come inside. Ridiculous. The room we were in were infested with ants on the counter near the sink, absolutely disgusting. The bathroom had ants on the sink area as well. I felt like I was getting sick just from being there, the air quality is horrible. The windows in our room didn't open, no fresh air. I had to wait 2-3 hours for a nurse to discharge me when I was told a certain time I would be discharged. The nurse that was there apparently couldn't do it because "there's a lot going on." This hospital is a mess. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, even if you have to take the trip.

Negative experience: It is absolutely the worst hospital for assisting the family with locating the patient. The step-down unit keeps you on hold for 30 minutes, and the calls drop.

Ida S 9 months ago

Negative experience: I wanted to get an appointment but in order to even let me know the availability, I spent two days and total 90 minutes on the phone with representatives gathering alllll my personal information before even letting me know available slots. When they finally done collecting my info, they said the next available appointment is SIX months away. This is not possible to wait so long with, so as I won’t be a patient I naturally requested them to delete my personal information and profile - but they apparently “don’t have the authority” to do so, although they certainly had the authority to gather all that. This is very negligent of others time and personal information, and waste of own resources, to spend SO much time on a case that could’ve been solved literally in a minute with the following simple method: “Do you have appointments for xx service?” “Yes, but next one is six months out” “That will not suit me, so no thanks” I will not try to visit this hospital again.

Negative experience: Absolutely horrible. I feel disregarded and ignored while as a patient in this hospital. Some of the nurses here lack respect and responsibilities in their work, making no acknowledgement to their patients or giving them enough proper care.

Positive experience: I’m being generous with this rating. I was in the fast track emergency department and it honestly felt like no doctor was there to really explain to me what was going on. I only had a positive experience because of Nurse Merlissa John. I have a huge fear of needles and she helped calmed my anxiety, made me laugh, and was consistently checking in on me to make sure I was doing okay. Very personable, good bedside manner, and was so sweet!! I hope this review reaches the right people and gets back to her.

Negative experience: Everything was going smoothly untill it was time for birth of my baby two years back. He was born on 2022 nov 6. I was postive about healthcare system of this country. Untill I experience something like this. So what happen was when I was giving birth to my child in labor room the nurse who was assisting me was in her phone most of the time during labor. She didn’t seems to have sympathy and Very ignorant nurse. 2- They did not even provide me something where I can hold tight and push hard. Long story short instead she just told me to hold on to my own thigh and push. After 3and half hours of pushing and all struggle. I have to go through C-Section. Which pretty much looks normal I guess. 3-After I came out of c-section. I remember I was laying down in bed and I see my son on my side. I guess it was an emergency ward. A lady nurse came to me and taught me how to hold baby and I also try to breastfeed him. And then she left. After sometime another nurse came to check on me and once she took that blanket off me that whole bed was covered with my blood. The nurse panic as I remember and she started calling the nurse.(who was in charge of that emergency ward I guess.) After that many I saw many nurses was surrounded by me. They are getting different kind of injection and needles in my hand area. It was painful procedure and hours of pain. Same night I remember them taking my husband signature on consent form for taking out my uterus because to save my life that was the only option left according to the nurses. Hence, my uterus was out. (I always wanted to have many kids) 4. And next day I open my eyes I was in ICU…….. one week later I was discharge from that hospital. Elmhurst is responsible for their negligent.

Negative experience: If your in a life or death situation and you come here then you opted for death. I am a documented asthmatic came in with shortness of breath. 3 hours later still haven’t been seen. This place has been empty for 2 of those hours. It’s legit me and a family that just came in. This place needs to be shut down obviously they are over paid to do nothing.

Negative experience: Worse hosptial ever!!! No nurse and Dr can’t give you update or A room!!!!! Seriously the worse hosptial ever! I will event come here ever!!!!! Dont recommend it!!! To anyone!!!

KHAS MAYA LIMBU 10 months ago

Negative experience: I had an unfortunate experience at Elmhurst Hospital due to the unprofessional and rude behavior of a security guard stationed near the main entrance to the pharmacy. This individual, an older man in his early 50s with a darker complexion and glasses, didn’t even give me a chance to speak when I approached to ask about pharmacy hours. Instead, he made me feel unwelcome and even spoke to me in Spanish, a language I don’t understand, assuming I was there for other reasons. It was 3:45 PM, and I was trying to confirm whether the pharmacy was still open, yet he responded dismissively with “mañana, mañana” while waving his hands. This encounter was very frustrating, and the guard’s demeanor showed a lack of professionalism, especially for a hospital setting. I would suggest more training on respectful and helpful interactions with visitors, as this was a disappointing and unnecessary experience.”

Negative experience: Medical malpractice and lack of empathy from some staff Honestly the staff here are not that bad. Many are supportive and genuinely care about your medical and emotional well-being . However some cross the line and are not empathic or even sympathetic . After labor, I was still heavily medicated because I lost a lot of blood and hydration after birth. I also had a failed epidural which caused me nerve damage because it was injected 4-5 times by the anesthesiologist. This caused me extreme pain after birth and people had to help me carry the baby because I could not walk. I had hip, back, and sciatic nerve pain I was bonding with my baby and breastfeeding and then I was rudely interrupted by 3 of the staff. Some were social workers and some were psychiatrist. Most of them were male too. First of all have some decency, my breast are out I need privacy. Second you are intruding on my bonding time. Then this social worker ( Ana Gonzalez) says she thinks I won’t be able to bond with the baby. Maam just because I had trouble answering your questions doesn’t mean I hate and will neglect my child. 1) I am heavily medicated and can’t focus 2) hormonal changes make you cry easy after birth which is normal and biological 3)my bonding with the baby was disrupted by you and other staff

Negative experience: I am sitting in the waiting room in pain. A deli cat punctured my hand with one of its nails by accident and my left arm is itching with a horrible heat sensation. I was inside of the room where patients get their bed. A patient that had been in pain for the past 6 months was told by a nasty male nurse “we aren’t playing these games today”. I think he should have his medical degree or license whatever he has permanently. Just because you can’t understand his language doesn’t mean they are “ playing these games today”. Same nasty nurse saw me in pain and has made me wait for the past 4 hours with my name not being called with barely any patients coming in or being admitted.

Nica Strong 11 months ago

Positive experience: So I am standing here waiting to be let in to see a patient. I thought this hospital was 24/7, but I was mistaken. Add on to this, that as I wait, my parking bill goes up and I am wasting time WAITING to get in. This is very odd. The staff is great - do not get me wrong; however, this is just unacceptable customer service. Now I see the officer that told me to wait servicing someone else. It could be that she is only able to help employees. This is tame compared to the ER which is chaos reinvented. They usually have beds 3 deep where it could possibly be considered a fire hazard. Not to mention that people are just on top of each other who are sick. Then there are the inmates... they service Rikers Island so they bring them in shackled and I think they should keep them separate. One for the patients safety and honestly, for their dignity. That has to feel humiliating when you are ill to be bought in like that in front of everybody. Now, they are taking care of the person I am coming to see so at least I can say that. They really do have caring and competent staff. I guess just getting in is the problem.

Fantastic experience: I brought my mother to the ER today & she had the most amazing & caring nurse by the name of Roberta Perez. She was so empathic with all of the patients. She's a prime example of going above & beyond for people & not only demonstrating medical support, but emotional support as well. And even though I may have not been the patient, I truly appreciate the compassion she showed my mother. Nurses truly are the backbone of patient care & we should recognize them when we get the chance. Thankyou Roberta

Negative experience: Can I give a 0 star!? The most incompetent hospital! My sister went in for a hit and run car crash at 6am. All scans were don’t at 6pm. 12 hours later. What if she had internal bleeding and nothing done. No pain med at all. The nurses said we had to get an ambo to transfer her out and we had to take care of that. Wrong info because all they needed was to contact the transfer nurses at the hospital being transferred to. When we wanted to transfer her and threaten of negligence, all of a sudden all the test in the world are being done. Stay away!!!

Negative experience: Sorry this institution does not even deserve one star. I didnt feel patient care at all. I was never hospitalized in my entire life nor been to ED. This was my first time to go to ED. I had an incident that i was attacked by a random guy. I had to go to this hospital for check up. I didn’t receive a good patient care from the ED doctors and nurses assigned to me. Spent three hours only to be seen by nurses and MDs for few minutes. I understand my situation that it wasnt urgent. But to introduce themselves by saying their names, they failed to do it. And the IDs are facing backward so you wont see their names. Somebody gave me a urine specimen bottle for pregnancy test and told me to go the bathroom. But he didnt tell me where to put this specimen bottle afterwards. No one is available and it was only the housekeeper was there and told me to put it on the table and somebody will pick it up. So i went back to the waiting room, and put it on the table. Then suddenly a filipina nurse came and asked whos specimen bottle is this? I said it’s mine. Then she gave me this attitude saying why i put it on the table. I said nobody instructed me what to do after collecting the urine because simply i dont even know the nurse assigned to me and he barely checked me. I told that filipina nurse.. hey, I am a nurse too. You dont have a patient care in this hospital. Imagine that you have a headache after that random guy hit you on the head and you went to the hospital for care and you didnt receive a proper care? Where is your ICARE Training? Or do you even know what is ICARE? Do you even know what is NYCHHC vision? It’s to treat everyone regardless of race and status in the society. I am a nurse and i am very disappointed with the service that i received. Sorry to say, but you dont have the compassion. I hope that Press Ganey will send an email for a patient like me to evaluate the service that I received, i will rate you as zero.

Negative experience: If you can; go to another hospital. Elmhurst ER is disgusting! They have all patients one behind others and there is not privacy at all. I should've stayed at home and Google my symptoms; I would've found a better solution with all the stress that I had in Elmhurst ER.

Positive experience: I gave 4 stars because of the hospitality of staff. The nurses and other staff were so kind and caring to our family. The parking was convenient. The food is awful and psychiatry was a disappointment. Don't expect to spend the night because it is not allowed and you will be harassed the whole night.

Fantastic experience: I just want to say how great the Elmhurst hospital outpatient lab staff is, since the receptionist to nurses, very professional and helpful.Special thanks to Janette , your smile and kindness makes me feel comfortable, you are the best!

Chumi Gonzalez 1 year ago

Negative experience: A nightmare of a hospital. The disorganization can be seen from the second you come into the hospital. The emergency room is a disaster. People getting arrested in front of patients, 30-60 patients in a single tight space, NO ONE CHECKS UP ON PATIENTS. Patients rely on family members to track down someone to care for them. Most staff is overwhelmed so they’re rude and have no idea what’s going on. Terrible communication about patient results between doctors. One doctor will say something to you, and the next doctor you speak to will contradict the previous one. A CT scan takes 6+ hours of wait. If you can, avoid this hell.

Negative experience: I got hostage by the mental hospital here once(Guess charge fee is 1,500 dollars.). I got a New Testament Proverb bible of Gideons International version for free. But threw by "Dad"...Now I went to Roman Catholic Got a new one Bible. But I tried get another Gideons for verification of the part I read(Because it's New Testament.), But Front Desk said we don't have...This makes me sad with 5.90 dollar train fee. The time I got hostage, the environment is cold though. Also in name of therapy to make this place likes a jail, I guess.

Negative experience: Elmhurst Hospital Center, located in Queens, New York, has received numerous complaints about its Emergency Room (ER) being extremely crowded and understaffed. Many patients report long wait times, often extending for several hours before being seen by medical staff. This overcrowding issue is a significant concern, as it can delay critical care for those in urgent need. Patients frequently express frustration over the lack of communication and attention from hospital staff, exacerbating the stress and discomfort of an already challenging situation. Improvements in staffing levels and patient management are necessary to address these ongoing problems.

Negative experience: This was the absolute worst experience in my life, and I am a CNA! I never got a bed. I stayed in the ER for four days which they only reported only one day. So my union rep will only give me one sick day when I was there for four days. The cops do not do anything one is on vacation and I keep telling them to check the cameras that it’s proof that I was there. I also had my Apple Watch stolen and it is still pinging that it is there. I have wasted so much time and Ubers going back-and-forth trying to resolve the situation, but they just keep giving me the runaround. I stayed in the ER for 4 days! No shower, food, and only an Ivy. I had many test done that is impossible to say that they did it all in one day. TEAM B will not let you sleep (night shift) Very loud they are talking and play music all night! I will be talking to my lawyer very soon! -0 starts!

Negative experience: I have to say this hospital has gone from being to worst of the worst. The best answer that they will give you is "I DONT KNOW". The management must have taught them to give this answer. They bought my dad here after he got hit by a car even though he repeatedly told them not to take him to Elmhurst hospital. He came here with several fractures on Saturday night June 29th 2024 and now it's july 1sr 2024 and he still doesn't have a bed. They have kept him I'm ER and just giving him pain medication. When I asked them to have my dad move to another hospital they said it would have to come from a doctor so to speak a doctor I'm waiting for over a hour and half. If you have a choice do yourself or your loved ones a favor and do not go to this death trap hospital where they will just throw you on one corner with no one caring for you. No food, no one to assist you for bathroom nobody will help you clean up. I can't wait to take my dad to another hospital.

Negative experience: Elmhurst is Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. If I could give a -100 star rating I would. I am now in the process of contacting the joint commission Psych ER in Elmhurst watched him for 24 hours, gave him sleep medication and signed him out the next morning as he 24 hours in an emergency room does not cure you. The family called and objected and begged he be admitted and not discharged until stable and they would not comply. He hurt himself by banging his arm against a pole till he broke it. It was casted... he removed his own cast, his arm is swelling. He could very easily get a blot clot in his arm. He is responding to internal stimuli and can't sit still You know what they told me? If you won't take him back we will give him a list of shelters he can go to or get a restraining order. Rather than help him they rather turn him out to the street. This is why we have the problem of more crime on the streets. People who desperately need mental health care are being turned away.

Negative experience: I used to be in there mental health program about 5 years ago, thought I'd reach out to try and get help. I was on the phone for about an hour an a half (Mostly on hold), talked with 5 people, none of which had definitive answers and transferred me to someone else. When I finally got hold of Intake I was informed that they're not taking new people at the moment. A waste of an hour and a half

Isabella Mora 1 year ago

Negative experience: My time at Elmhurst Hospital's maternity ward was nothing short of a nightmare. If I could give this place negative stars, I would in a heartbeat. From the moment I walked in, I was met with disdain and disregard from the nurses. Not only did they laugh at me and talk about me behind my back, but they also neglected my medical needs. Despite suffering from preclampsia, a life-threatening condition, they left me stranded in the halls for hours on end. From 12:00pm to 7:00pm. And when I was finally fully dilated and ready to deliver, they callously refused to take me to the delivery room because their shift was ending. My life and the life of my child were deemed inconsequential compared to their convenience. The horror didn't stop there. In the intensive care unit, where I was completely immobilized and dependent on the staff for basic care, I was treated with utter contempt. The nurse assigned to me walked in, put my food on the floor beside my bed, leaving me to fend for myself in my vulnerable state. All this while I had compression boots on and strapped to multiple machines. Every day, I'm haunted by the realization that I didn't take legal action against this den of incompetence and cruelty. It's baffling to me how individuals with such blatant disregard for human life are allowed to work in healthcare. Elmhurst Hospital's maternity ward is a danger to anyone unfortunate enough to set foot in it. Spare yourself the agony and seek care elsewhere.

Negative experience: I had a terrible experience at the Elmhurst Hospital Pediatrics at the front desk. I was called next at window 2 by Brenda. Her first question was did I check in at Kiosk. I explained to her I didn't and I was having an issue with the app. She dismissed me and sent me to the kiosk I got the same error to check in at the front desk for the information of the insurance. I went back to Brenda and explained I did what she asked and receive the same issue and if she can help me now. She proceeded to print out the stickers with my kids info (as if I didn't know my kids information. Also, she gave my kids information out without knowing who I am which I believe is an invasion of privacy) then told me to enter it like it's in the system. I explained that it's giving me an error and Brena continued to dismiss me to the Kiosk not wanting to help me. Now completely frustrated I went to the Kiosk and began to check them in and hit yes regardless of what the questions were just so I can get far enough so Brenda could at least see its registered and actually help me. I came back to the desk and Brenda moved and stood at the doorway so she didn't have to correspond with me. The nurse called for my son and I explained to her the situation and she was kind enough to explain that the system sometimes need update to the insurance. She spoke with Brenda and she refused to help me so the nurse told me to wait for the next representative and apolgized and said she wasnt sure what the issue is. At that point, I was happy to speak with someone else, after the horrible customer service I received from Brenda. The next representative called next and Yesenia was very pleasant, I explained the issue with the app and the kiosk, she double checked everything for me without dismissing me to the Kiosk. Low and behold, you can do check ins at the desk if there are any issue. Ysenia helped me in less than 5 minutes. This leads me to believe Brenda just didn't want to do the work or help. I have a son who is 11 years old and a daughter who is 8 years old. I have taken both my kids to Dr. Woolever at the Elmhurst Pediatric Clinic since birth. This is the first time I had a bad experience at the Pediatric Center. It was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth and I question future appointments if I have to be dismissed by someone who doesn't want to help or do the bare minimum for 15 minutes to see the doctor. I'll update my review after I verify policy with the doctor.

Fantastic experience: From the examination to the birth of the baby, the doctors and nurses were very good, great and patient. I am very grateful to the nurses on the eighth floor who took care of me for three days after the birth of my baby. They were very careful, responsible and caring. Don't worry about the language barrier, the hospital handles this problem very well. I am very grateful to the nurses on the eighth floor for their three days of care.

Negative experience: The worst hospital. They pile beds infront of others, waited 30 hrs and still waiting !!! This makes no sense!! They need to do better or send patients to other hospitals if they can’t handle it. Yet 4 doctors in white coats infront of us having a chit chat and laughing!! But patients have to wait a whole day!!

Negative experience: The worst hospital I’ve ever seen in my life It’s a zoo not a hospital Doctors and nurses are treating people like tra…sh they just put the needle inside u without any introduction/ they keep u laying on the bed next to people peeing and handcuffed around u for hours until someone talks to you The owner reached at 7 am took a walk laughed at people that are almost dying and left They literally hit you and push u bag to the bed if you’re asking for anything Because depression they locked me 24 hours with psychopaths people aiming that that’s the law It’s dirty and disgusting to the point that u wonder how is this an emergency hospital in the US I have to get treatment and therapy to get out of the trauma they caused me now.. and I’m doing it

Negative experience: WORST HOSPITAL EVER ! Apparently they all can’t help assist their patients, I’ve been stuck for 5 Flipping Hours just for someone to read my child’s XRay which by the way EVERYONE that came in tonight needed such ! The only thing the staff is worried about is a break. Do not bring your children here, this is a horrible place and they have no concerns for their practices or patients.

Negative experience: I was a psychiatric patient at Elmhurst Hospital. The psychiatrist I was assigned to barely showed empathy nor a sense of hospitality which worsened my comfort to share anything with them. Services they recommended to me at the hospital were limited as they even mentioned that a club at the hospital would soon to be closed because of insufficient funding. Arranging an appointment with the Behavioral Department was also difficult. I attempted to arrange an appointmeny with said psychiatrist through reception, but they told me someone else would contact me further. I waited 2 days and no one would reach out to me. I had prior poor experiences with Elmhurst Hospital especially the ER room, waiting to be seen and treated because of my asthma attack. They put me on a patient bed and crammed me in the ER that was full of patients on their bed. Many nurses and attendees had to shuffle the beds around to see or pull patients out. Overall, Elmhurst Hospital has been a poor experience for both emergency and mental health wise. I would rather seek physical and mental health care in a different hospital or institution.

Negative experience: Disgusting system. I had to wait for 5 hours in the ophthalmologist clinic. That kept putting my sisters name at the back of the line or never called her in 5 hours because the receptionist never put no name into the computer system. I almost had seizures happening to me awaiting my sister’s appointment. Very sad !

Negative experience: Coming here since ages! A humble request to please open extra counters for prescriptions refills and pick up. It takes forever. Atleast 2-3 hours just to get a refill, wait for 2-3 hours and come back again in the queue waiting for another hour. Please consider

Negative experience: If I could give this hospital Zero stars I would!! ER means Eternal Response from this spicific hospital. I was admitted at 1:00 pm and I am currently still waiting it’s 11:00 pm. Absurd. I try to ask what my results are and they say “ you have to wait for your doctor” I ask a RN “ can you identify who this doctor is?” Her rude reaponse, “he’s not here you just have to wait”. How much longer do I have to wait besides the 10 hours I’ve been here already. I am hungry and I have to remove my contact lens. Avoid coming here!!

Negative experience: One of the hospitals that requires improvement is the one I visited recently. I arrived at the emergency room with severe gas and pressure issues after my Iftar and waited patiently for six hours on a provided bed. Unfortunately, during that time, neither the designated nurse nor any doctor came to inquire about my condition or the reason for my visit. ‍♂️ Feeling frustrated and concerned about the lack of attention, I eventually asked the nurse if I could leave, and she permitted me to do so. However, I was not provided with any discharge papers, recommendations for my health condition, or medication to manage my symptoms. I kindly request that the hospital administration address these issues to ensure better patient care and communication in the future. #HospitalImprovement #PatientCareMatters

Negative experience: Would give zero stars if there was an option to. The RNs here that "cared" for my dad were rude, lazy and uncompassionate. The way they treat and speak to patients and visitors is appalling. The attending physician did not allow me to advocate for my father, which resulted in his health to deteriorate significantly while he was hospitalized here. If I knew how horrible this hospital was, I would have told the ambulance to take him anywhere but here! It's a shame that these medical professionals who are supposed to care for sick patients come to work to mistreat them and only care to collect their paychecks.

Negative experience: The WORST HOSPITAL EVER. Don’t bring your family here is it not needed. They can’t take care of patients who actually needs help. They act they are busy with all these beds on the hallways AND CHATTING TO THEIR COLLEAGUES instead of working Sure, you need a break, but excuse me, I am trying to find my family who is now not in the ER. Team B. Come on. Y’all get paid the most compare to all other jobs in our society and complaining that your wages are not good WHILE you can’t even a family members question who is looking for their family? I approached them and they didn’t even let me asked and said that “ I don’t speak English” you don’t speak English when you chat with your colleagues in English? My tax is not paying for this type of service when I go the hospital FOR HELP. And. Jokes. I went to the room, and have no ideas what had happened and trying to look for someone to explain to me what happened and why are we here. NO ONE NURSE has the patience to answer my question or even listening to my question. They were telling me that “ you can’t just walking around and asking questions, you need to talk to your nurse” SURE, thank you for letting me know, and GUESS WHAT I was going to ask you!? “Who is my nurse” LISTEN TO MY QUESTION AND Tell me WHO! I just stepped in here confused and you are not even trying to let me ask who my nurse is but telling me to shut up and just wait? You are here for job, I need to go to my job, I am not staying here the whole day to just wait and see who is my nurse! YOU CHOSE THIS JOB. You should remember that y’all “PEOPLE WITH A HEART”, but I think y’all just feel PRIVILEGED because of the job title. Y’all acting like we know the system of the hospital as we are working here. Girl, no one want to visit the hospital everyday and get to know the system as their job. That is YOUR JOB. I don’t know how you guys can have the right to treat family members whose family is in the hospital already sad and heartbroken, and you still yelling at us for not knowing who our nurse is? TELL ME WHO MY NURSE IS, so I don’t talk to you. What kind of system is this? Nurses and doctors earn the highest wages in our country but treating us like garbage and enemies, teachers who can’t even yell at their students and has the most patience get the minimum wage. What is this.

Negative experience: Updated: This is the worst hospital. Stayed in CPAP for 2 days on a recliner and thankfully was transferred to Amityville. Do not come here, ambulances dump people off here instead of going to the hospital you suggest so I think it’s best to save Mt. Sinai or Northwell’s ambulance number to your phone.

Negative experience: Disclaimer: My experience is quite dated as I have not had any experiences with this hospital since approximately 2014. I am choosing to leave a review now because I have had a lot of time to think this through and have experienced better medical care to be able to compare. I feel I need to warn people about this horrible place. Colon Cancer: In 2014, I accompanied my grandmother to an oncology appointment. The oncologist took several minutes to look through some records and then told us quite bluntly that my grandmother had stage 4 colon cancer--and then nothing else. I had no experience with cancer and initially did not know what stage 4 meant, and this doctor never bothered to explain it to me. My intuition said this was bad news, so I asked how much time my grandmother had left. She told me something along the lines of 3 months. I asked her if there were any treatment options and she said no, it's too far along and she was too old. The entire appointment lasted probably 5 minutes, and half of that time was her going through records. What stood out to me was that she had zero compassion or empathy, and spoke to me as if this were just a run-of-the-mill cold diagnosis. Her bedside manner was shockingly bad. She never bothered to offer anything beyond the diagnosis--not even any additional information about the cancer or ways to keep my grandmother comfortable. She even seemed annoyed when I inquired about whether there were any other treatment options! Ovarian Cyst Surgery: In late 2002, my primary care doctor discovered an ovarian cyst. My doctor referred me to this hospital to get further treatment. It was determined that I needed surgery, but since it was a non-life-threatening condition, my surgery was booked for four months out. In that time, my cyst ballooned to the point where I looked and felt pregnant. By the time my surgery date came, it had filled with 2 liters of fluid and went from a fairly minor procedure to a major surgery. It left me with a horrendous keloid scar and severely disabled my core muscles' ability to engage properly. It caused a lifetime of chronic pain and breathing difficulties, which significantly altered my career in the Army. Had my condition been recognized as something more urgent, I would not have suffered to this degree for the rest of my life. I do not fault the surgeons as they did the best they could. I even reached out to the surgeon years later to inquire about whether he knows how to improve the functionality of my core muscles and he responded fairly quickly. It's the hospital's system of prioritizing patients that's the problem. Psychiatry: My mother has schizophrenia and was involuntarily hospitalized at their psych facility. The psychiatrist asked me to come in to inquire about my mother's mental illness history. I obliged and was very forthcoming with my responses, but soon, the conversation devolved into this doctor chastising me, saying, "Why have you not done anything about this sooner, before she came dysfunctional?" I can't recall exactly how I responded, only that I was disturbed and enraged by his accusation. In hindsight, I wish I could've said, "Listen, MFer, I was a child being abused by a mentally ill woman. How TF did you expect me, or my grandmother who didn't speak any English, to deal with this situation?" This is just another case of horrendous bedside manner from a doctor employed here. I question how he can even effectively treat patients with the way he speaks to people. Emergency Room: Throughout my childhood, since urgent care facilities did not exist back then, I would have to resort to going to this hospital's ER for conditions such as fevers and UTIs. Each time, I would wait no less than 3 hours, and it wasn't unusual to be there for about 8 hours. Now that I know what quality care is, I want everyone to know that this hospital is the absolute worst place with which to entrust your care. If you have the option, go somewhere else.

Positive experience: My first experience at this facility was not one I kept fond memories of, even though I finally gained the service I desired. However, over the past months, I must say that all of my interactions and experiences at the facility have been pleasant and rewarding. The medical personnel with whom I have had direct contact have been professional in every way. They've listened and explained everything they were doing or going to do. Support staff (Nurses) have also been kind, attentive and reassuring. My recent experiences are very noteworthy and in a good way. My sincere thanks to all the people who have attended to me and kept me safe!

They keep doing like too busy but partically they all enjoying and eatting. Never gonna attend in my life again. I prefer 100% going to the other hospital. They are taking advantage of having non native and neglecting, letting us shout and letting us keep having pain is there goal. Worstssssss at all!

Fantastic experience: Elmhurst hospital is one of the best, Is overcrowded yes, but Doctors and nurses handle everything very well. I was a patient and observed everything. People get annoyed because they want to come in and come out of the emergency room in a flash but that's not possible in a overcrowded city. I want to thank Dr. Axel Epie for his kindness and sense of humor making a difficult time more bearable. I want to thanks nurses, the personnel that brings patients to X rays, the janitors too; everyone involved works very hard For us. I'm greatful. Thank you

Fantastic experience: I had a slip and fall in the subway today. I wound up at Elmhurst ER. It was packed, but it looked like they had it under control. Transporters wre great. Had to get a xray and CT. Didn't have to wait long. Andy and Slava were fantastic. Knew exactly what they were doing. Also, Dr. Nite professionalism personified. Great bed side manner. I'd like to also thank the people from the patient experience department. James and Sunjanaade sure i was well taken care of. Amazing service. I'll bring any family member here.

Negative experience: Fourth time in a NYC hospital, and fourth time being robbed blind while unconscious. It's so disgusting. Most of the hospital staff are in denial that it's even a problem. Saying things like "well they probably had to cut your clothes off". Yeah right, I was wearing loose athletic shorts. And then what, they just evaporated? My ID, credit cards, and the keys to my house were all stolen (oh yeah, and my clothes, so I had the fantastic experience of having to go naked for several days while I recovered in the hospital) and bogus charges started hitting my accounts. The hospital is crawling with cops, and none of them seem to care that there's a crime ring operating out of the emergency room. Given what I know about NYC cops, I have no doubt some of them are involved. Atrocious.

Negative experience: Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and don't come to this hospital... unless you are actually dying, they will put you on a list and wait long hours... I brought my 2 year old daughter to be check since she had a cough and running nose for the week and the last 3 nights she had a fever of above 101.00 and barely sleep thorough the night.. on that day, she wasn't eating or drinking medicine, everything was explained to them... we waited 6 hours and we were done... they keep taking the "emergency" cases. I understand that but 6 hours Ridiculous... please avoid his hospital

Negative experience: My husband and my 7 year old got into a car accident, I arrived so shaken but what could possibly had happen and how they were unfortunately once I entered the adult emergency room I was greeted and treated so Yoon appropriately and so nasty by two of the workers there a nurse and the front representative of the emergency room. I wasn’t even able to ask what I wanted to ask I was so nervous I wasn’t even able to ask what I wanted to ask I was so nervous. The attitude of the people that work there is so nasty is so unprofessional and it’s so shameful that we have hospital in the community where we get treated like they’re the higher upper class and we’re nothing. This is so sad.

Negative experience: I would rather contract necrotizing fasciitis in my groin than return here. The single most inept and uncaring staff I’ve ever experienced in a medical setting. Their providers have no compassion, empathy, or respect for human dignity. The slathering of urine and feces in the bathrooms was the highlight of my stay.
