The Atrius Health Cambridge practice has been caring for residents of Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, and other nearby cities and towns since 1979. The office is conveniently located between Harvard and Inman Squares, opposite Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and next to the Youville and Cambridge Hospitals.
Our practice provides primary care for adults and children, as well as a wide range of medical and surgical specialty care. Our preferred hospital partners include Mount Auburn Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children's Hospital and New England Baptist Hospital.

Negative experience: They are terrible at replying to messages in a timely manner, even with their policy of replying within 2 business days which to me seems longer than any other Dr office I’ve been to. I always have trouble getting a new script in to my pharmacy every month. Not sure what to do, since not many offices take my WellPoint insurance.
Negative experience: Visited this location for my son’s two week appointment. He was treated so poorly and even aggressively by a nurse practitioner I have been haunted by it and regret that I didn’t physically remove him from her hands. He wailed and wailed from her aggressive poking in his mouth, he has a tongue tie which she knew about yet she probed him so harshly he gagged and began to choke, she did not stop and verbally taunted him for crying. She claimed she needed to see he had a suckle reflex (I was nursing actively when she arrived). On top of that I was charged for an urgent care visit even though the website does not imply the Saturday hours (Somerville) are considered urgent care for infant visits 2 days after hospital discharge. Over the phone I was given the impression that they do this all the time, just come on Saturday since he was due to visit. We also were alarmed that no desk worker asked for our identification or insurance information and found out unfortunately they stopped accepting our insurance 6 months ago. No worker told us that, despite my husband telling them we have that insurance when we arrived and discussing it with both the nurse and doctor. I would not recommend this location especially for infants.

Fantastic experience: I came to this location to receive several vaccinations before a trip abroad. Nurse Tseng, who administered the vaccines, took the time and care to carefully review my record, discuss the reasons for each vaccine, explain what to expect (with one of the vaccines being a large dose that could cause a feeling of more intense pressure during the shot), and then wish me a safe and happy trip! Great experience. The parking lot attendant was also friendly and helpful -- he allowed me to pay him at the booth after my visit so that I could scoot quickly into the building, as I was arriving quite close to my appointment time.
Negative experience: Atrius physicians were by far the most negligent, stigmatizing, and racially biased providers. It is hard to forgive, and with these sorrows, there are always consequences, regardless of whether those involved have regret, because that patient you didn’t treat well? She is a person too. She didn’t deserve to be treated as if she’s disposable. Unworthy of care. Your indifference to her suffering… it is noted, written down somewhere in the stars, forever.
Fantastic experience: This is the main center I use for me and my son for the past two years and I highly recommended it! Great doctors and easy to schedule sick visits online. Dr. Sigman is the best if you are looking for a Pediatrician!
Negative experience: Not going here ever again. Should have seen the latest reviews. The same exact thing happened to me. they charged me for a generic checkup and the billing department is super rude when asked about it. I am cancelling my future appointments too with this organization.
Negative experience: The healthcare staff is lovely, but the billing department is both abusive and absolutely incompetent. I spent many many many hours and months on phone calls and writing appeals for an issue that should have been easily rectified. I was forced to go out of my way to get free services elsewhere because of this. I DO NOT recommend this organization.
Negative experience: I went here for my annual physical and ended up receiving a bill for $550, even though my insurance covers my physical 100%. I was told that I received "diagnostic tests" even though I was not notified that I was receiving tests beyond my physical, and I have never paid anything for a physical at another practice. My interactions with the provider was pleasant, but unfortunately I had to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a physical which should have been free. Be very careful, as they tricked me out of a considerable amount of money. I would avoid this practice so you don't get scammed too.
Negative experience: It all started at the front desk treating my son as if he had leprosy. Came in for my son and we saw dr cohen in the Cambridge pediatrics location, since he wasn’t feeling well. She kept calling my son a girl/her. After being corrected multiple times she still continued to address him as she. I mentioned that we went to urgent care and he had every test taken which were negative. She still keep pushing the same tests. I mentioned he was dehydrated, but she kept saying he wasn’t. She took a urine which stated that he was indeed dehydrated. She started to say that he needed to eat more and drink water more. Then she started to break down the food groups. She even started to catch an attitude and was speaking to us very condescendingly. My son even started to feel uncomfortable. I will never ever come back to this business for care, nor refer anyone here for care.

Negative experience: Last week I brought my child for vaccine and lab test. The lab staff were very rude.
Negative experience: Not a friendly place at all. They take forever to call you back.
Negative experience: This place is not very friendly nor do they seem considerate of your time. I wanted to put 2 stars but being my second time here and having a similar outcome, nurse not friendly or considerate, feeling like they're not supportive or comforting, and they seem very quick to rush you without taking the time to make sure you understood everything. Something about this place needs to change! Waited nearly an hour just to have a blood sample.
Fantastic experience: I love it
Negative experience: 1920's technology. Nurse calls you and leaves a voicemail. You call back, they can not transfer your phone call to the nurse who has called you. Instead they want you to hang up and they message the nurse who called you to call again. No wonder our health care costs are though the roof.

Negative experience: I would not trust my health to anyone at this glorified veterinary clinic. No interest in investigating issues or finding solutions - just run of the mill dismissive wait and see approaches, with attitude and no regard for patient care. I've have 3 significant health issues in my life, and each and every time I am forced to seek a healthcare provider outside this 32BJ five star center covered location. Wait forever for an appointment.. no solution except make another appointment so they can run up the bill.. Was not diagnosed properly at this location and had to travel and pay additional fees simply to find the truth. What else could I have expected for free? Don't waste your time here, and seek out professionals that care about you and your health to help you. I am thankful that they helped me find truly great healthcare providers by opening my eyes. Had they been mediocre instead of terrible I'd probably have stayed. Run.
Fantastic experience: Good first day experience!
Negative experience: I just had a quick phone call with someone at internal medicine, and I experienced very bad service. I thought she was rude. I asked her if she can provide me a copy of my report, and have the doctor call me with the results, and she didn’t understand me at first, but then She gave me an attitude and hung up quickly. I don’t think she cares for the patients or even tries to listen to them and their needs.
Fantastic experience: I have seen both Dr. Selim and Dr. McCarthy - both seem to be amazing women - they are very kind and made me feel like I was in good hands. The nurses and assistants are all wonderful as well. The phlebolotomist who drew my blood was super sweet and made everything quick/painless. In addition, MyHealth Online is an intuitive system - it makes getting results and booking apts very easy. Only negative is that there is a $3 cash only parking fee which was a pain.

Positive experience: As close to " on it"--thorough, timely, professional, caring, knowledgeable as one could hope for. Excellent effort,intentions, and outcomes in the vast overall picture. Specifically, they have or had a great pediatric resource in Cambridge through Lauren LaGrega, M.D. as well as a great unusual problems in eye-care régime at Kenmore through Dr. Brenner-Semela. They are able to get you advanced care easily from their own many specialists at different locations. You can ask the difference of offerings from center to center. They have lab, x-ray, pharmacy. Pharmacy dates and hours need to be looked up on Google or asked about. The managers at the top, whom you usually don't know, although you can ask to talk to the head administrator or their assistant, focus on patient feedback extremely well. You can see some results from this. It doesn't seem to us that the doctors have much say about ( possibly rude or ineffective) assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, receptionists. These are few but not unknown. My husband, I, & our children have been well taken care of by picking and choosing from who is available both there in Cambridge and among the other locations. Overall, HVMA is a very good organization, but, if you don't like or trust the dr or nurse you are working with or the location you use, go online and look at alternatives within HVMA or ask someone you think might know more about HVMA. Psychiatry: I have found, in rather many instances, for adults and children, is one of their few departments which is deplorable both as to quality and attitude of professional staff and time available for patients. Someone with both psychiatric and administrative expertise needs to do a big fix. Their availability for an urgent matter when you are not in an appointment is often disappointing and frustrating. It was our experience that, quite different from Pediatrics, any urgent problem or question was difficult to get attention for from your PCP. This deficiency could be remedied without much effort. HVMA has Urgent Care at various sites--maybe even this one--but those hours are quite limited and seem over whenever you need them. Kenmore HVMA has the most hours, throughout the day and some of the early evening as well as some of the weekend , I think, but check. I would suggest that HVMA think about opening a few ER-Urgent Care-24 Hour Walk-ins. It's good to know that, in some locations, there is or was a dedicated prescription line (2 day turn around) as well as a patient's ability to send a note through the patient portal 1-3 day turn-around). We hope they from the mention of these specific problems, you don't get an inaccurately negative opinion because it's all four and a half stars!
Fantastic experience: So far so good. It's our pediatricians office, they respond well to emergencies, and have a very kind group of professionals, everyone has been great to work with.
Negative experience: The allergy department lost my test results, and now won't return my calls. This office is beyond unprofessional, and I have spent way too much time trying to get an answer out of anyone here. Do not go here for allergy testing!

Negative experience: Do they pay people to write reviews for them or something? The last two times I’ve been there I waited at least 30 minutes after my appt time before being called in. My doctor didnt give me any paperwork to take with me and they had a wrong diagnosis on my chart. Im currently looking for a new doctor and wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. The lady at the internal medicine front desk was rather rude also, but bad customer service doesnt bother me. Neglectful healthcare does. You’re better off going anywhere else honestly.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to Harvard Vanguard since I was a teen. Never had any issues with them. The place is very professional and clean. The wait times are very reasonable and things get done quick. I also don’t have to wait long periods to make an appointment with my doctor. Overall good place.
Positive experience: The staff is very competent, but I've had a lot of churn in doctors - they move on to other practices/locations quickly, and then you need to get to know someone new. There can be long wait times to get appointments.

Negative experience: UPDATE FROM ORGINAL POST Been coming here since I was pregnant with my first child and she's almost 11. Wonderful staff and quick check ins. Update: So I switched my son over the beginning of the year and since then have been sent home TWICE when he had pneumonia. Once around March and again in June when he ended up in the hospital AFTER being sent home. This time around he was sent home AGAIN and I know whatever my son has this time around is not "just viral". I'm so disappointed in the care or lack of care I should say that they provide now.

Fantastic experience: I've been going here since I was a teen. Never had any complaints. Things were done quickly and in a timely manner. They also have their own dedicated parking which helps in the horror story of Cambridge's terrible parking situation.
