Many aches and pains seem like they’re not a big deal, and you can usually ignore them, take some pain killers, or avoid activities that worsen the pain. The problem is, pain is your body’s way of communicating that something is wrong with that tissue. Without any obvious acute injury, it usually means your body is moving inefficiently and repeatedly irritating and stressing those tissues. If you have been nursing a nagging pain or injury that never healed correctly you may be slowly damaging your body or weakening it, predisposing it to future injury. In some cases, the tissue damage that accumulates cannot be reversed. This often means care takes longer and results take more effort to achieve.
Rotator Cuff Tear A rotator cuff tear is a decades long process that starts with improper biomechanics of the shoulder joint with associated muscle imbalances and postural changes. Imagine your shoulder muscle and tendon is a rope and if you hit that rope with a rock repeatedly for years and years it will start to fray. You won’t cut through the rope quickly, but at some point, the fraying will cause enough weakness that suddenly it can tear, seeming like an acute injury.
Disc Herniation Injury Most disc herniations injuries seem acute, but they are usually a “straw that broke the camel’s back” type of situation. Meaning, if you have been bending with poor biomechanics and without bracing your core appropriately for years, and tears have been slowly developing in the disc, then fibers fully tear. Usually this happens with some mild activity like picking up a piece of paper or shaving your legs in the shower.
In both these examples, and in many other cases, Brown Chiropractic is well equipped to help prevent these mild aches and pains from becoming something severe and disabling. We do this by empowering our patients with tools to manage their own pains and movement dysfunction so they can avoid injuring themselves and unnecessarily wearing out tissues over time.
Pain can snowball in our lives causing interruptions in sleep and exercise. When our sleep and exercise is disrupted, our bodies chronically release stress hormones that have all kinds of negative effects on our tissues and organs. Pain distracts you, causing your brain to work less efficiently. We’ve had so many patients come see us after years and even decades of pain wishing they’d found a chiropractic approach sooner. They repeatedly communicate how significantly their pain impacted their overall health and wellbeing as well as their ability to work, play, and enjoy their family and life. When their pain was lifted, they felt as though their life had been restored to them.

2 years ago Experiencia fantástica: I came into Brown Chiropractic with pain in my neck, shoulder and arm that was so bad I could hardly sleep at night. Dr. Wawra's treatment was so effective I had less pain with each visit. The physical therapy with Sierra and Joe following my adjustments as well as the print outs or emails of the exercises for home helped me so much in between visits. They were so friendly and answered any questions I had. And the girls at the front desk were very welcoming and helpful with scheduling and insurance issues! I have had a lot of chiropractic treatment over the years and Brown Chiropractic is the best!!

2 years ago Experiencia fantástica: After being in 10/10 pain for almost a month, a friend referred me to Brown Chiropractic and Wellness… From the moment I walked through the doors, I received the warmest welcome, and I knew I was in the right place. I had HOPE again after living with all this shoulder, and neck pain. Not only were the two women at the front desk calm and laidback, which instantly relaxed me, they were really KIND! They actually listened to me, as I struggled to do the basics of registration, and even laughed at some of my poor Mom jokes. Next, I met Dr. Steve whom walked into the room with a big smile and then really listened to my story, showing genuine compassion for my pain. As someone who has never been adjusted before (and seriously struggling… I would be in tears while driving because I hurt so badly)…what came next was pure RELIEF. I went from a 10/10 pain to a 3/10. And it was glorious!! I then met, “Dr. D” on a follow up session, and was delighted by his warm demeanor and willingness to listen to my extended health history; offering great insights on what could be the root of the problem. I also want people to know that, being adjusted will absolutely change your life!! AND you should be going at least once a week. Lastly, go to Brown Chiropractic in Yarmouth! They are a 100 out of 10!!

She made me feel so comfortable, and even took the time to show me stretches that I could do at home. 5 star experience!
2 years ago Experiencia fantástica: I had a severely herniated disc over the summer. While looking for a chiropractor, when I thought it was a muscular injury, they were able to get me in the same day with Dr. Allie. I saw her multiple times a week for the first few weeks and my symptoms got slightly better but I was still in significant pain. After a few weeks, we decided to get an MRI. Dr. Allie was able to order one and I was scanned within a week and we got the results the next day. We had to pivot our approach to my treatment due to my MRI result and my physical limitations but Dr. Allie was nothing but kind, patient, and accommodating. I continued to see her multiple times a week, with PT (at an outside facility), all summer. It took months to get me back to normal but I feel even bette now than I did before my injury occurred and I finally “graduated” from my initial injury program to a wellness program where I see Dr. Allie 1x a month for maintenance. So thankful to be feeling much better with minor to no symptoms. Dr. Allie is fantastic but the staff is also nothing but kind, professional, and always accommodating to getting you in at times that work for you or rescheduling. They were also great at getting paperwork to my employment while I was working from home, healing and on restrictions. Thank you!!!

2 years ago Experiencia fantástica: I started at Brown Chiropractor about 8 weeks ago for chronic neck pain. After 3 visits I was feeling some pain relief and after 2 weeks I had a day here and there with no pain at all. After 8 weeks the pain is 90% better. I no longer need over the counter pain relief. Very grateful to have pain relief so quickly!

He provides great insight on exercises that can be done to strengthen muscle groups, thereby keeping everything in alignment. I have been seeing him for general health maintenance for several years now. I would recommend him to anyone.

It has helped with my back, my digestion issues and peri-menopausal symptoms. I have learned so much about my body and how to ensure it functions properly. 2 years ago Experiencia fantástica: I had seen 2 doctors and 3 physical therapists and still the pinched nerve in my neck was causing my fingers to be numb. After 3 appointments with Dr Steve at Brown Chiropractic the numbness is gone. From the friendly front desk, the ease of payment with my insurance company, the doctors and Sierra and her exercises, the practice is phenomenal.

The care I’ve received from Dr. D (as my daughter, son in law, and I — all of us patients) call him has been carefully tailored to my problems and has increased my mobility and decreased my physical discomfort. In addition, all financial matters have been handled sensitively and pleasantly. What more could you ask of visits to a doctor?

The Drs are all great… specifically Dr Brown does amazing trigger point work and Dr Warwa is super skilled at cranial adjustments. Dr Steve does excellent jaw adjustments. I like to bounce around bc I get something different from all of them!

3 years ago Experiencia fantástica: Update: how could I become even more impressed? It's been a while since I've needed a visit, and this time I had the addition of a cupping treatment with Sierra in the physical therapy room; they have become a multi therapy office which I feel is crucial to proper healing. Still very friendly and super helpful assistance at the front desk checking my insurance benefits and I was even able to schedule my appointment by text, which is super convenient with my hectic schedule. The large practice is very clean and I love the fresh flowers in each room, and Dr DeButhune is very friendly and great at listening, adjusting, and giving advice on postural changes & stretching/workout techniques to focus on. When I first started at the practice I was in a lot of pain, with limited motion, and had a wide variety of issues diagnosed by Dr Brown; through an extensive treatment of electrical stimulation, traction, adjustments between she & Dr Steve, and his excellent deep tissue work & advice on home stretching/exercises I was much improved; with the addition of Dr DeButhune’s advice on postural changes & his adjustments, I can gladly say my need for return visits is few and far between, however, when I do return I am still greeted & treated as if I was just there yesterday, like you were family. This is a great practice, and I highly recommend them to anyone!
