Everybody treated me like a king. The day of surgery, I was excited. The hospital couldn’t be any nicer. I went in for surgery. An hour later, I came out a new man. My recovery was awesome. I was out of bed that day. My wife and kids were my motivation on getting this surgery. They are my whole life. I’m happy I’m going to be around for them.
I had the gastric bypass. I am Type 2 Diabetic and I wanted to gain control of my sugar. I hit my goal weight in about 5 and half months and I feel fabulous. The procedure has completely changed my life for the better because it has empowered me as a middle aged woman that I can really do everything and anything that I want to do. I don't put an age on anything. I don't say I'm too old for something.
I knew if I didn't change something soon, I was going to be in a lot of trouble. The consultation process was a lot easier than I expected. I was met with open arms. I was treated like I was the only patient here. Not only did they answer all of my questions, they had questions for me to make sure I was the right candidate for the surgery. After surgery and that weight started dropping off, my life started changing for the better.
I had the gastric sleeve procedure. The driving factor behind me getting this procedure was my health. I didn't feel good physically or mentally. I had joint pains, even standing was difficult sometimes. Emotionally, this surgery completely turned my life around. I have so much more confidence. So much more happiness. I feel like a completely different person. I feel stronger. I feel able to accomplish more.
The driving factor behind me getting my procedure was that I couldn't get up off the floor with my granddaughter. That was my why. That was my big reason for having this surgery done. After surgery, it was a little bit of a struggle with what to eat. What you put in your mouth that you don't even think about. You don't think about what you're eating or how you're eating and portion size. It's what I do now every single day. The procedure has changed my life in so many ways. It saved my life.
I think I always grew up identifying myself as less than other people because I was fat. I decided to tackle that and just live my life. I had a sleeve gastrectomy. It changed how I view myself. How I communicate with people. I'm able to be much more of myself and live the life I always thought I should have been living. I am totally comfortable in my own skin. I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy because I had just become diabetic, and I had hypertension for many years. I lost a total of 157 pounds in 11 months. I have a brand new life. I’ve had one procedure done with him and I can say that it was the best experience. The staff is very helpful and kind when scheduling appointments, verifying insurance. Very welcoming environment from the moment you walk in the door. The office is clean, organized, and I’ve never had to wait more than 5min to be seen. I would recommend them to anyone! Best practice!

1 year ago Experiencia fantástica: This is going to be a long one, lol My surgeon was Dr Harvey Rainville. He and his medical team deserve thanks, flowers, and more for what they've done for me. I have struggled with my weight due to trauma and depression for almost my entire life. I was finally ready to make a change but was hesitant and a little terrified. Dr Rainville recommended I have gastric sleeve surgery, which is a reduction of your stomach, for those who don't know. He and his office/team reassured me during the entire process leading up to my surgery date, especially whenever I expressed my hesitation and fears. Finally, on the surgery day, Dr Rainville came to see me briefly before I went in to encourage me one last time. Then, as I was being wheeled into the operation room, I found myself becoming a little overwhelmed and kind of went into a minor panic attack. The team was right there for me, comforting and reassuring me that everything would be alright. The next thing I knew, I was waking up from the surgery, which was honestly painful, as to be expected. Due to having sleep apnea, I had more trouble coming out of it, which was one of the complications. I remember crying like a baby because of the pain but I also remember the medical staff was still there at my side the entire time, someone was rubbing my back and shoulder reminded me that they were there for me and they were going to take good care of me which they did. Truthfully, my anxiety was my worst enemy when recovering from the surgery, haha. They rightfully kept me in the hospital for about 48 hours to monitor me but discharged me when they felt I was good to go home. I was very hesitant to go home because I was nervous that the pain and complications I had would happen when I left. But I'm sitting here now, four days post op and I can hardly tell I just had my surgery. Besides general soreness, I feel completely fine. I have not felt this good in such a long time, not just physically. I'm in a much better mindset. I am on my way to greater confidence. Dr. Rainville and his medical team did an amazing job not just with the surgery but also with caring for me as a patient and person. I doubt I would've been able to be where I am without their moral support. I recommend NY Bariatric to anyone looking to become a better version of themselves, and I HIGHLY recommend going with Dr. Rainville.

1 year ago Experiencia fantástica: My surgery went great! Everything prior to the surgery was explained in detail so I knew what to expect. This location is wonderful. I'm never waiting when I come for my appointment and everyone has such a warm and pleasant attitude that works at the Glen Ridge location. I was running a little late and was still accommodated once I got there and literally was sitting for all of 5 minutes before being seen. Dr. Ballem is awesome and so is the rest of the staff!

2 years ago Experiencia negativa: This particular office is horrible, I can’t speak for the other locations, since I see good reviews for other offices. It left such a sour taste, I decided to try a different group. Front desk Staff try’s to force you into programs you don’t even need and have no knowledge to explain the differences between programs and what you’re paying for. They almost over charged twice for a service and I caught on to it. Dr. wasn’t the best either, not clear on what the procedures are, I felt I had to dissect the answers out of him. I went 3 visits before I called it quits and went to another bariatric group. Avoid this office.
I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience with that particular office. It's frustrating when there's a lack of clarity in communication and issues with billing. 2 years ago Experiencia negativa: Got a consultation here specifically for a laceration of the lower eyelid that I have. I gave a great description ahead of time, they were great with fitting me in early. Which now I realize may have not been a good sign. However, I called them back multiple times about whether or not my insurance would cover my consultation or any other work, they never got back to me. I apparently have to pay the full amount. I also called back to see if I should get my stitches taken out sooner to avoid scaring. I don’t know who give me the response to have them taken out, but on the day of my apt I found out Dr. Shafquat was never notified!!! Additionally, I had the consultation just for Dr. Shafquat to tell me that I needed to see an OCULAR plastic surgeon. The visit also seemed quite rushed. It seems like a cash grab when a provider, knowing the reason for your visit, recommended me seeing a different doctor during the visit instead of suggesting before my visit. It’s not like they refer you to anyone else, you have to do all the work yourself. Don’t go here. Only have 2 stars because the man at the front desk was trying his best and seemed very caring. Thank god I only got a consultation here instead of being used for more money on getting my stitches out. Huge management issues here!

2 years ago Experiencia negativa: Today would be the third time that I walk out without being seen for vitals. I had a follow-up appointment today (post gastric sleeve surgery) I have been dealing with the Glen Ridge location for quite some time and it is always the same unfortunate situation with them. THEY HAVE ZERO SENSE OF TIME PERHAPS NO ONE REALIZES THAT EVERYONE'S TIME IS VALUABLE. I am often left over 30 minutes in the waiting room & this is just unacceptable. I ALSO HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT JOB, and I take my 30 minute lunch break in vain, to only wait in a room an additional 20 minutes to see a PA. I've just about had it with this office. Dr. Naveen Ballem preformed my surgery and I think he is a wonderful surgeon, so if following up after surgery is important at all- please note that until I can personally see Dr. Ballem himself, ON TIME, I WILL NOT RETURN TO THIS FACILITY.

3 years ago Experiencia fantástica: I recently had a bariatric procedure done by Dr Rainville. The duodenal switch. I am more than pleased with the way Dr Rainville has cared for and spoken to me each and everytime we have interacted. I have also had great experience with Dr Ballem and Carolina and Enrique. I cannot forget the entire office staff on NJ route 23. They were wonderfully informative and helpful. If you ever have doubts or fears of bariatric surgery then you haven't been to NY Bariatric offices at all. Thank you to everyone that helped me along my journey to get rid of diabetes type 2 and shed some weight too. From February 06, 2023 up-to March 29, 2023, I have lost 31 pounds and A1C is decreasing rapidly.
