Negative experience: Unethical Business Practices !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am writing on behalf of my younger sibling, who signed up for a gym membership without being properly informed that it was a one-year contract. They were never given a copy of the agreement, which is unacceptable. When we reached out multiple times to resolve this issue, our emails were completely ignored. It is extremely unprofessional for a business to operate this way—taking people’s money but refusing to address legitimate concerns. After reading other reviews, I see this is not an isolated incident. Many others have complained about unclear contracts and poor customer service. I urge management to take responsibility and address these issues rather than ignoring customers once they’ve been charged. If you’re considering joining, be very careful and demand all terms in writing before signing anything.
Negative experience: Warning, they will steal your money they make you sign weird agreements and then they’re sneaky in the way that they take your money
Negative experience: Lots of great stuff here, but it seems that the broken machines are not well serviced. It took me telling the front desk that the 2 Peloton bikes are not functioning (1 of them has a handle that adjusts the seat that's broken off, 1 is stuck in pace so you can't change the seat), and the other one has a resistance set all the way to max that will not budge. Only answer is to use the spin bike room, which is great but only if there isn't a class there. The bikes have been like this since mid July. Mind you, the two Pelotons have bike pedals for spin shoes only, so they Are not usable on top of acquiring special shoes that cost upwards of $100. Think I've also seen a treadmill that has been broken for at least a month. Edit: after exchanging emails with the owner for a week and me recommending moving bikes, there are now 3 functioning bikes in the main workout area. A recommendation furthermore to the owner: I know you have lots of great signs on the sauna regarding no videos etc, but these Are not Always recognized. There are also individuals that listen to books or something of the like on speaker in the locker room or blast music at its loudest possible volume in the locker room that I might recommend you encourage members not to do. Thanks for addressing the bikes And I look forward to the Pelotons being useable.
HI Kate, we have 18 brand new spin bikes and our pelotons are being fixed as the seats do not adjust, by our equipment guy. We are at the mercy of getting I'm to the gym. Currently we only have the peleton seats that are not working and one treadmill. He has ordered parts for this treadmill. We are removing two of the pelotons as we wait for the seats to be fixed by our equipment guy and replacing with the spin bikes. Our brand new spin bikes are actually a better bike, smoother and very well made. It is the top of the line spin bike world wide. Hopefully you can use one of these as per our discussion. We try hard to have things fixed immediately and actually do, but it's hard to tell because they are fixed. If that makes sense. Our equipment guy is the best in town so he is quite busy and it can take up to a month to have something fixed unfortunately. He is aware of the Peletons. Negative experience: I was denied a refund after providing adequete information for a military related relocation. This was in 2018. Since then I have moved out of state and never returned. I have also tried to unsubscribe multiple times from what i would describe as overly aggressive predatory emails. Yesterday I got spammed with 5 emails over the course of 6 hours. Do I need to start spamming reviews and the Better Business Beureu for you to take a hint?
HI, our advertisers take email lists. We are sorry you got an unwanted ad. There is an unsubscribe button on the ad itself. We let our military leave any contract with papers. With these papers we let any military out of contract. However we can't refund you if you are in a contract, but we can let you out so there are no more charges. I hope this makes sense. Negative experience: Kinda feel I got scammed by them unfortunately, my advice ask to read everything first before giving them or putting down your information.
HI Aaron, we are a little confused as you signed up for a 12 month membership and we let you out of the agreement when you said you made a mistake. So our membership is standard. We would love to have you come in or write the owner [email protected] to discuss further how it is you feel you got scammed. We also gave you a Nutrition plan, we let you keep, even though it is proprietary. Please let us know what else we could do to make you feel better about our gym.
Fantastic experience: I loved the gym. Excellent service from Jennifer and Josh. The gym has excellent equipment and weights. Everyone is very friendly.

Positive experience: I’ve had mixed experiences at this gym. The equipment is great, and the staff and members are really friendly, which is a huge plus. However, my interaction with the owner was disappointing. When I decided to cancel my membership, she talked negatively about other gyms, claiming hers was "the superior gym." It felt unprofessional and put me in an awkward position. Overall, while the gym itself is good, the owner’s attitude really soured my experience.

For the privacy, respect and comfort of our members, we do not allow filming as not everyone wants their picture taken or to be in a video. I am so sorry you don't understand this but we do have to stick with these policies. I work hard at making sure our gym has more than other gyms offer and is exceptionally clean. As far as superior, I am of course bias but it is all relative to what the person is looking for. In your case it is taking pictures and video taping in the gym on a tripod which unfortunately I am not able to change that. I did let you know you can record in the studio and the posing room but not in the main gym where others are. I am sorry for your misunderstanding of our communication, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable.
Negative experience: EDIT PT2: they charged me $27.50… after 4 months of NOT being a member. After calling the front desk twice and emailing the owner directly, i was thankfully given a refund. EDIT: LOL I didn’t misunderstand. I completely understand and respect the privacy and comfort of other members, which is why I’ve always been conscious of where I set up my camera and complied every time I was asked to stop recording. My issue is not with the policy itself, but with the inconsistency in how it was communicated. When I signed up, I was explicitly told by your staff that filming was allowed in certain areas during less busy times, including the main gym. You yourself confirmed this policy early on, saying I could film in the weight area as long as it wasn’t during peak hours. If the rules have changed or evolved, I totally get that—but a clear explanation of the policy from the beginning would have saved a lot of confusion. I don’t film to disrupt anyone; I do it to track my own progress, and I've always respected the space of others while doing so. As for the “superior gym” comment and multiple negative remarks about other gyms, it just felt out of place, especially when I was simply trying to cancel my membership. I appreciate that you work hard to maintain the gym, but consistency in communication would have made my experience much better. Gym staff have let me record in less busy hours, when no one is in the background. If filming isn’t allowed, a clear-cut answer from the beginning would’ve been appreciated. ORIGINAL: I've been a member at Alaska Fitness for about a year, and although the gym has good equipment, my experience with customer service, particularly from the owner, makes it hard to recommend. I decided to cancel my membership due to the inconsistent rules around filming and the final comments made by the owner. When I informed the owner of my decision, she said, "This is a superior gym, by the way," which felt unnecessary and weird . The comment and her negative remarks she made about other gyms, just because I wanted to cancel, really threw me off. When I first signed up, I asked the front desk if it was okay to film my sets. I was told that as long as I wasn’t disrupting others or capturing them in the background, it was fine. However, within the first month of my membership, I was asked to stop filming after a complaint during a busy hour. I totally understood and complied. Afterward, the owner clarified that I could record in certain areas like the studio, bike room, or weight area, as long as it was during less busy times (early morning or late at night). Today, however, the owner told me "no cameras allowed; I could get sued if you film," even though it wasn’t busy, and no one was in the background of my video. Again, I immediately put my camera away, but the inconsistency in rules is frustrating. I’m not upset about the filming rules themselves, but it’s hard to know what’s acceptable when the guidelines keep changing. I’ve seen others film at the gym, and I’ve done so myself without issue in ***front of staff***. I’m always mindful of where my camera is, never film in inappropriate areas like the bathroom, and always comply when asked to stop. Again, it’s a great gym- variety of equipment, spacious sauna, and friendly front desk staff. But the final comments from the owner did not sit right with me

Fantastic experience: A wide range of varied equipment, turf, cardio area, and multiple cable stations. Was in the area for one night and was able to walk from my hotel. Had an excellent workout. Definitely a “lifters” gym which is exactly what I was looking for.

Negative experience: The gym and staff were wonderful. The gym was always clean and the staff are very kind and helpful. However, I cannot say the same for their billing department/owner. I was in a 6 month contract with my husband where we paid $144 each month and after going there for 7 months (and after the contract ended) I had changed it to an individual membership. I then had to cancel my membership as we were moving. Jen emailed us to confirm our cancellation but also stated that the entire time we were paying for an individual membership and proceeded to charge us $200! I replied to her about the mistake as we reviewed our statements which showed that we were paying $144 since we had joined. She then tried to say she looked at our charges and said we were still only paying $74 and would a spreadsheet of our charges as if that’s gonna be make an difference over what our bank account statements show. After that correspondence she has not reached out nor has she responded when I sent a follow up email.
Negative experience: DO NOT SIGN UP HERE Jen is a scam artist who will change ur plans charge you extra in the middle of the night and say we where billed wrong when we where not , she won't return call or emails and after cancellation we are still being charged and told we never canceled
HI Jacob, you and your friend signed up for 6 months and were paying for one person. Your contract ended on December 23rd. They roll month to month after the term, you guys used they gym following it as it rolled. You recently put in a 30 day notice. There is always one more charge in the 30 days notice. We keep all cancellations. I did email you so I am a bit confused where this is coming from and I also gave you a break on the difference of the couple membership which should of been an additional 49 monthly and you guys used the gym for 8 months following your sign up. You are welcome to make an appointment with me so I can explain everything. Contracts are not scams, it's how gyms work and cancellation policy are also common for at least a 30 day notice in gyms.
Fantastic experience: I signed up last year with my son to do the 6 week challenge, and so happy we did. We enjoyed the classes, the trainers are amazing and the gym is always clean. I had a question about my bill, when I called the front desk was helpful and explained what was going on. I did end up emailing Jen with another question and received a quick response. She was very helpful when I needed to put my account on hold for a couple months. We both love Ak Fitness, so much that my son has asked to work there.

Fantastic experience: I have been working out for many years and could never lose fat .I recently entered their Red Carpet challenge . I really didn't think I had chance of winning, but thought I might somehow lose weight. At the halfway point we weighed in lost more than I thought I would. Jen coached me on dieting and motivated me to keep it up. I ended up losing 19.2 pounds of fat to win most fat lost in pounds in 6 weeks. I didn't think I could do it but Jen told me I could. I am now motivated to lose the rest .My life changed .Thanks to Jen and the staff they really care. I am getting a lot of support from them .

Negative experience: Felt pressured into signing a contract. When I called back to cancel even though the contract hadn’t started I was told I was locked in. I received an email warning me my account would be referred to debt collection if not paid… 6 months later an equipment fee was charged with no warning. When I called to dispute the charge I was told it was in the contract. Very disappointed by my experience with this gym.

Negative experience: So, I’m a pretty easygoing person. I don’t like to give poor reviews to businesses when it comes to matters that can be handled between the business and myself, especially local businesses. But when a business fails to amend a situation for months, it becomes a bigger problem. I’ve been overcharged for months now since they switched to bi-weekly membership payments. I was placed on a couple’s membership even though that’s never what I signed up for. I’ve gone in and cancelled, called multiple times. They have a 30-day “cancellation notice” policy that I knew about and expected. But just today another charge came in. I’m pretty sure it’s been over a month now. It’s nearly $400 at this point that I’ve been overcharged. Keep being told I’ll hear back from Jenny about it, but so far I’ve heard nothing back from her at all. Either communication between staff and owner isn’t happening the way I’ve been told, or I’m being refused money that I am owed back. So which one is it? This was a good gym to go to when I had the time, staff has always been super helpful and friendly. But the way billing is handled is frustrating to say the least. This has been causing me more stress than ever anticipated. Update SEP 2024: This. Gym. HAUNTS ME. I cancelled back in January this year. Out of nowhere I see a charge on my card yesterday. I called and was told that a bunch of other cancelled memberships were charged by accident as well, and that I can expect to see a refund within the next week. Yeah freaking right. How many times have I heard that now? Why is my card even still on file if I cancelled?? So done with this place and their BS.
Hi Kate, thank you for your review. As explained to you in emails. You did not pay for six months in our software transfer. We put you on couples to pay for the 6 months you didn't pay for. We sent out notices for the bi weekly billing 30 days in advance. If you would like to have a meeting with me you are welcome to. I did supply you with all the numbers and you still came out ahead. You have been cancelled on the last day of your contract
Fantastic experience: After moving across town and choosing to stay in Anchorage a few more months, I went in search of a gym with a sauna. And Oh man am I glad I did! This is one of the best run gyms I have ever belonged to. Not only do they have a sauna and a steam room, and showers of course. They provide bath towels, and smaller size dish towels. The locker rooms as well as the gym floor are kept fairly spotless. The staff is super friendly. For a medium size gym they have just about anything you could want. It may not be the newest equipment, but its all well maintained, and works as it should. Women seem to love the separate rooms that can be used when no class is being held. Also it is worth mentioning that they have a wider selection of cardio equipment than most gyms. The pricing is on par with the other gyms in town. Parking was never an issue, even going at their peak times in January. New members get a consultation and a body scan. I went to this just to get the body scan, but I'm so glad I did, because I got to meet with Jen (the owner). Her passion for bringing fitness and proper nutrition to people is evident in the first couple seconds of meeting her. I simply can not say enough good things about Jen, or this gym. Definitely check it out if you are in the area! I do wish they would change to a 24hour access. Usually I work midnight shift, and would not even consider a gym that was not open 24/7.

Negative experience: I am the laziest person when it comes to writing a review, but I have to let other people know. I signed up for the monthly service back in 2023. I only signed up for a few classes. The first one was with a different trainer, but she was not experienced. I talked to the owner Jen, and she agreed to train me. She did a pretty good job at training base on a few days. I trained for her for a little then found someone better on base. We agreed on that day in person that I already paid for everything and to have her canceled/removed my account. She never did and continues to try to charge my credit card as of 2/2024. They were still sending me an email trying to have me pay for something that should've been canceled a long time ago. I tried to resolve last year by emailing and calling, but no one was responding back. When I first read other reviews, other people have similar problems. I should've listen to them. I would tell all my people, family, and friends to be careful if decided to go with Alaska Fitness.
Positive experience: My entire experience with this gym was almost perfect. The atmosphere, staff, group classes, and equipment kept me satisfied for several years. I would have never had any beef with this place if it were not for Jen. She was up to some sketchy billing that I wanted to address, but she ignored it and tried to move forward with reactivating my account. I did not want to chance any future problems so I requested for her to just keep my account closed. She responded with a bunch of information about how she bent her own rules for me when I was not aware of receiving any sort of privilege or exceptions throughout my contract. Someone else should run AK fitness customer service and billing because I gave her so many chances to just get me out of her life forever.
HI Lyric. I transferred another persons membership to you and gave you and your husband a free 9 month. We had to start billing again if you were to do the red carpet as it has to be paying members. You and your husband have saved well over $700 because I transferred another persons membership to you that was already paid for. This doesn't happen anywhere, I was trying to help you two out. If you don't understand what I did for you, I would love to have a meeting with you to show you.
Fantastic experience: A really nice gym with a friendly staff. The equipment is in good condition and the locker rooms are clean and well maintained. The gym is usually not crowded and they have a good day rate if you are traveling. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: This is an awesome gym! The staff is very friendly. The whole place is clean and has lots of equipment to use. I got a whole week pass for a great price. The gym is open for great hours and they were even open on the holiday. They have shakes and energy drinks if you need one and comfy places to sit if you are waiting for an Uber or something. I weight lift regulalry and had no problem getting a good lift in for all body parts each time I went. They have powerlifiting equipment like benches, racks and deadlift platforms. They have hammerstrength equipment and good accessory machines too. Also a ton of kettlebells for ab/core work. I love this gym and will be back ASAP!

Negative experience: Really loved this gym, the environment and overall atmosphere was awesome for the price. But it seems since post COVID things have gone downhill. They seem to be slowly turning into planet fitness and supporting people who film others to gym shame on social media. After calling someone out on gym shaming the staff all targeted me as the problem when I was just trying to keep the same positive atmosphere I was so accustomed to for my 9 or 10 year membership I had. I have since cancelled as I could just pay $10 for a planet fitness membership for the same treatment.
Hi, Will thank you for sharing your experience. On our end, you were slamming weights in the vicinity of an elderly member who had PTSD. She asked you to stop. We do not allow slamming of weights or dumbbells as it breaks our equipment. We have had this rule since we opened in 2010, as it enables everyone to have a good experience. One change we did make after covid is to get brand-new equipment. To protect this new equipment, we do not allow throwing and slamming. We have never considered planet fitness a comparison to us, as we offer a very different suite of services. We have personal trainers, studio classes, small group and team training as well as a sauna and steam room. I would recommend south side fitness for you, where you can drop and slam things as much as you like. Thank you for your membership in the past years, we wish you the best.
Fantastic experience: Been a member for a few years, it's an excellent gym with a reasonable price. Whatever your goal is, you can likely achieve it here, bag work included. It has the right environment. The big bonus is the sauna being open til 11pm. Highly recommended

Negative experience: they tell you they cannot tell you pricing over the phone and after reviewing others' reports on their billing it would appear to be because their payment contracts are predatory, attend at your own caution
HI Noah, our contracts are on line , we have an app. We do not tell you the prices over the phone, because it depends on length of time and the value is not perceived over the phone, you have to be there in person, as when people come in, they don't even think about the price. Our prices are also on our webpage which we told you over the phone. I tell my employees, as all gyms do, not to rattle prices over the phone but to come in. This is common practice in the fitness industry. People that leave bad reviews have a misunderstanding as do you, we are not telling you our prices over the phone because we are hiding something, and our contracts are standard. Nothing hidden or nefarious. We also have non contractual memberships.
Fantastic experience: I have only belonged to a few gyms during my lifespan, but I must say at this one I feel like I belong. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and motivated. The owner is incredibly personable and driven to help you accomplish your goals, whether it's getting swole, eating right, toning up , or preparing for whatever event you desire. They offer great classes throughout the week I have not been able to attend yet, but am very excited to partake in anything from Tai Chi, Zumba, kickboxing, spin, and more. Facilities offer a wide array of iso and plyometric equipment, free weights, clean bathrooms and showers, sauna, yoga rooms.. and any gym rat or aspiring athlete I have met there has been kind and courteous. The people attending the gym clean up after themselves, and take pride in the facility they use. Prices are VERY reasonable for all the Alaska Fitness Center has to offer. Happy to be a part of this!

Positive experience: Came as a guest with my friend who’s a member. I feel the the front desk staff could’ve been more welcoming. Was given different answers on how much the day pass was. Website said $15, on the phone was told $18, ended up paying $15. Was also really looking forward on getting a complimentary 3 day pass (which their website says they offered) but was told they no longer offered that which was a bit disappointing. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the facility itself! Good equipment, wasn’t too crowded, nice environment!
Hi Korina. I am so sorry for your experience not being the best. My front desk must of been a sub for our actual front desk who might of been out sick. We do have a 3 day pass but the person just needs to be local and not have been in the gym within 5 years. The day pass is 18. It is 15 as a guest with a member. 18 is the Lear expensive day pass in the state for gyms. Not sure about planet fitness though. Please come back and I would be happy to give you a three day pass as a concession for the wrong info from our front desk sub. Regards, Jennifrr

Negative experience: Rude staff didn't like the way I parked my car. I have been a member for 22yrs. I am moving to PF for one third the cost.
HI Joshua, we are sorry for your bad experience. You might not have known this, but this happened because a car was trying to get out and couldn't. This is why they had you move your car. It really had nothing to do with the way you parked. We are sorry if that didn't come out properly from our employee.

Fantastic experience: Zumba classes with JJ are super amazing! What a fun, engaging and dynamic work out! I always leave feeling happy and uplifted! Also, the Strong Nation class with Mike is awesome! The class is highly powerful and energetic, yet tailored to accommodate all levels of fitness. You’ll feel successful each time and the music gets you pumped up, you will feel you want to come back for more!

Negative experience: I called ahead to see if the steam room was working/on and the front desk gal said yes so I went in excited to have my first outing since having a baby. I only had 45 min to steam before I had to get back to my newborn. I arrived at the gym, got undressed and walked into the steam room where it was completely turned off and dry like no one had been in there all day. I put on my clothes and went to the front desk and told the gal who was busy flirting with the guys at the counter and who was obviously annoyed I interrupted her moment with the guys. It took her 30 minutes trying to figure out how to turn on the steam that she said, “sometimes doesn’t work”. She refused to give me a refund and I left without a steam and the owner never called me back as I was told she would.
HI Courtney, this is now the owner responding. I never heard about your experience or I would of completely reached out. There was no not left by you or our staff. We have ordered a brand new boiler and am surprised the front desk didn't know this. You also should and can be refunded. We do have a hot sauna that is always working and I do apologize about the steam and for your night being ruined. Please come by for a free week by Jen. Just ask Jen when you are ready (907)529-6500. Fantastic experience: Worked out here for a week before my Denali trip. Paid $45 for a week long pass which seemed reasonable for Anchorage. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Facilities were really good and there is everything you might need both for a strength and cardio workout. The equipment is really well thought out. The hours are really good as they’re open until 11pm even on holidays.

Positive experience: Lots of equipment. Very disorganized however, slightly dirty. The water fountain doesnt look like its every been sanitized. This gym would be better if they werent currwntly asking 105/month for a membership. Pretty much on par with AKClub for price.
HI, I meant to answer you earlie We do have a cleaner around the clock and a team of them at night. You might of seen the water fountain right after some one made a mess. It is hard to be right behind every person at the exact moment they make a mess. However, the water fountain and the equipment being left out by customers, we also pick up through out the day, and lastly, due to employees starting at a higher rate than ever before by $4.00 increase an hour, plus rent going up and lterally everything going up. I followed suit of what all gyms actually did that we had to raise our prices to survive. It was raised a little but you must be on a couples membership to be paying that price. Our single membership is $64.95, still less than any where in alaska besides planet fitness
Negative experience: I am Extremely disappointed with my service at Alaska fitness, when i joined The gym i was Under the impression that it was going to be open 24hrs Wich i needed Because of my work schedule and soon found out it wasn’t actually open 24hrs therefore i decided I wanted too cancel my membership but here’s the catch they said i cannot Cancel my membership because of a contract so I’m here paying a 50 dollar gym membership that i cant Even physically use. I spoke with the owner and she said “ I’m not gonna sit here and argue with you”with a rude attitude like cmon can we talk about bad customer service and false advertising soooooo glad i switched to Planet !
HI Deven, we are very sorry for your bad experience at Alaska Fitness. Due to Covid we are unable to be 24 hours, however as explained earlier, we are open at 5a and close at 11p every day. This is posted throughout the gym, and we are sorry you missed that. I am unable to cancel your agreement 3 months in due to this reason. We wanted to send you your agreement, but you hung up on us as we were reading back your email for accuracy. We are very sorry you are upset. It wouldn't be fair to the rest of the customers, as explained, as I hold them to their agreement. In the agreement it states the reasons we can accept for cancelling. We need to have processes and systems in place, to run this busy gym. If you would like. I could pause your membership as mentioned earlier as well. Just let us know. Alaska Fitness
Positive experience: Love this gym, its decently clean with very friendly staff. Love the 24hr feature and sauna. Wish it had a better flow of air throughout the gym and some of the cardio equipment does not work, which can be annoying when it gets crowded(rare). Overall for the price, its a great gym.

Fantastic experience: My partner and I have been members of AF for the last year and we have never felt more at home in a gym. They have everything from free weights, to sleds, to machines…they even have over 4 different types of treadmills! The free sauna makes for a nice end of workout treat. The staff are always warm and welcoming. Can’t recommend enough!

Fantastic experience: Moved to Alaska very recently and had to start gym shopping. This was my first and last stop. Immediately felt like I was at home. The atmosphere here breeds inclusivity and there is something for everyone. The staff are always super welcoming and the facility is kept neat. The amenities offered here are also a huge advantage to having a membership. Highly recommend this gym. 5/5

Fantastic experience: I've really grown in this gym and have reached my goals and have set new ones time and time again. With a gym like this, you can be ambitious. There's many different classes and equipment to get you to where you need to go on your fitness journey. Reid is a good light in this world that I'm blessed to have shared many conversations with and gain knowledge about not only fitness but in my life in general. That right there is worth more than any membership cost. Overall my experience here has been great and they've even gone to the extent of working with me when my broke behind was late on payments. That tells me to Jen, it's more than just the money. Good people are hard to come by, and for whatever reason this gym has it. That's the way a gym should be, like a family. Honestly would rate higher if I could, it's a clean, supportive environment that I personally recommend to people I know often.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with alot of awesome equipment. Im an out of town worker and I utilized this place during my stay in Anchorage and I was really happy I did. I got a real workout here as opposed to just other workout facilities that are just all fluff. Not only did they have weight machines and free weights they also had cardio equipment, a multipurpose room and a great sauna. Staff were very friendly as well. If I lived in Anchorage I would definitely get a membership here.

Fantastic experience: The gym is clean, staff are friendly and very professional, and the quality of service and training is outstanding! They are very cautious with cleaning after every workout session, and provide sanitizing stations around the gym. I've joined multiple gyms in the past and none of them beats Alaska Fitness. I'm glad I joined this gym! I would definitely recommend this gym as well as their training sessions!

Negative experience: Tonight was my third time coming to this gym (as a guest) with my brother who has been a member for a month now. There was no one at the desk when we got there so I waited 5-10 minutes for someone to finally show up. The man who did was very rude and disrespectful during our interaction when I asked to purchase a day pass. He told me it was $17.50 for the pass and I told him I thought it was $15 - that’s what I was charged the other two times I went there. He said that was only if I came with a member. So I told him that I came with my brother and he asked me “Did you really?”. I looked behind me around the gym for my brother and said yeah he is in the blue shirt. Then the guy said “ARE YOU LYING TO ME?”. - completely shocked I said no! I couldn’t believe how rude and ignorant this person was. I don’t recommend this gym at all.
We are very sorry for your bad experience. I will take care of this immediately with the front desk. We train our front desk to be extremely polite, so I cant help but wonder if this might of been one of our trainers, as they should not be up there at all. Do you recall? Also we have week passes. Fantastic experience: I have had such a good experience so far! From the process of signing up to getting into personal training sessions for the first time ever, everyone has been helpful, friendly, and encouraging. Unlike (personal) experiences at other gyms, I don't feel awkward or judged the second I walk in the door. It's refreshing and makes me feel like I might actually be able to stick with my plan and accomplish my goals this time.

Fantastic experience: Hours are convenient that I am able to work around my work schedule. Staff there are awesome and helpful. Anthony is great to work with as a trainer and rehab and keeps me on track for the goal I am working on. Good assortment of weights and machines so never too crowded to the work I am doing.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely LOVE this gym. Only the most genuine people work here. They are always positive, energetic, remember my real name which is hard to pronounced lol they make me feel welcomed every time i come in for a workout especially during a trying time like COVID. The trainers are absolutely top notch and so knowledgeable. Anthony is amazing! I learned so much from him as my personal trainer. Oh, they have group trainings too and they are awesome! Before I was a member, I didn’t know how exactly unfit I was, their body scan was a real eye opener. It’s insanely detailed, i learned things I would have never known. it’s a great tool to use as a starting point for fitness. The equipments at this gym are great,the rooms, restrooms, sauna are always well maintained and clean. They also have a protein bar where u can get protein shake after your workout. They have everything lol I’m so happy I chose this gym!!

Negative experience: I don’t know if they’re trying to get money after being shut down from COVID-19, but I cancelled my membership 3 months ago and just found a charge on my credit card. Of course I can’t get a hold of them or the bank with everyone being shutdown. Watch your bank accounts. Now’s not the time to be stealing people’s money.
Hi Max, your cancellation is a 30 day written cancellation. In the 30 days, there is one more charge, this charge did not go through back in January, so the system kept trying to get your last fee for three months. This had nothing to do with covid, it is just when your card had money when the system tried. You can read in the contract that all cancellations are with a 30-day notice which you did but there is always one more charge. We do this instead of taking first and last when you first sign up. You may read the policy under privacy and policy on our webpage: AlaskaFitness.net . You have been cancelled this entire time since your 30 day notice. So if you would kindly pull this down as it is not accurate and a misunderstanding. At any time you may always reach out to me on our webpage and email. I can show you your cancellation and the many attempts the system tried to get the last fee. Also during Covid, I gave all members a choice to pay for credit later or suspend their billing due to hardship. I kept in touch with everyone. If you didn't get the updates, it is because you are canceled.
Fantastic experience: The new babysitting service is so convenient and hassle free, not to mention the childcare workers are super sweet and attentive. The front desk staff are so polite and make it their mission to fix any problems or concerns that members have. Of all the gyms I've had memberships at, AF by far has the best atmosphere, especially for those early morning workouts.

Negative experience: Nice gym. But watch out your bank account. Sneak money. Double charge, charge early is their rules because you sign something you probably even didn’t read!
Hi, because of our language barrier, I tried to explain if you do a chargeback on your dues of what you owe by monthly agreement, I will have to charge you again. It also costs us $25 dollars every time. I would love to meet with you and go over how there was not a double charge.

Fantastic experience: Great value for the price with options to pay monthly under contract or for a full year in a lump sum. If you want a place with all the equipment you need for a serious workout, plus good amenities like sauna/steam room access and towel service, but don't want to pay the price of other gyms this is the place for you. The crowd is mostly regulars of all types (genders, body types, skills/abilities) that create a welcoming, non-intimidating environment. Staff is always friendly and the owner is intimately involved with the day to day operations. A+!

Fantastic experience: I have had a horrible experience with management. I actually really like the trainers, all of them seem knowledgeable and eager to help. This isn’t enough to compensate for their shady business practices. I regret not reading these comments to begin with, because it would of saved me a lot of money. I misunderstood the contract and thought I signed up for a 1 year membership and to start off I would try 1 month trainer. Turns out if you select a trainer during your contract, they sign you up for a year. 30 days later I told them I can’t afford a trainer at this time so I won’t be needing one for the next month. They told me I was locked into a year contract with a trainer, but I could freeze the account and resume it later. I agreed and have the emails to prove it. 3 months later my account still hasn’t been frozen, I paid $750 in total, I was told that they would give me store credit, I received 0 store credit, and now they aren’t answering my calls or email. After talking with Jen via email she actually refunded me and took the trainer out of my contract. If possible I would take this review down. It was a hassle getting in touch with her admittedly, but in the end It worked out
Hi we try and help every individual reach their fitness goals by giving them a FREE inbody when they join and setting them up with a variety of things to reach their goals from zero for free classes with membership up to however much you need or want to spend on training services. Training with a trainer causes you to show up and get in a habit. I am sorry that didn't work for you but have a ton of things that are Free. Hopefully you can make our Free studio classes and Bootcamp . Thank you for your membership and what you think is shady is contracts signed by the customer. The contract is not just for us but for you to be contracted with yourself to reach your goals. I am sorry if this was not explained to you. All gyms have these agreements or everyone would quit after a month. I canceled your contract and refunded you even though legally I didn't have to because you misunderstood what you signed. I always work with each and every person that has an issue with a very fair approach and my business card is right up front for anyone to contact me.

Fantastic experience: Selection of equipment is good, and it is in good condition. People, both staff and other members, are pleasant and nice to be around. The towel service is a nice touch. The number and variety of classes is good for those who wish to participate. We are quite happy with our membership here, and we have been members of many other gyms. We chose this one for proximity to where we live and work, plus the amenities. The experience has been a good one and keeps getting better.
Negative experience: As others have mentioned their membership contracts are not transparent and they will charge you forever without a written cancellation form even if you think your contract has expired. Very unethical business.
Negative experience: Do not ever put your debit card on file for auto payments, and better yet don't ever come here. There are better gyms in Alaska that actually APPRECIATE your business and won't screw you over. I haven't stepped foot in this gym since February and cancelled my membership then, giving them 30 days notice as my full year was up in March. It's now late July and I've still been getting charged 84.95 since then. Jen, naturally as a shady business owner, is refusing to remedy the situation and is trying to keep my $340 she so wrongfully STOLE from me saying my husband checked into her facility June 1st. We were in Talkeetna for my birthday and stayed in Denali National Park -- so no, we did not check in and should be refunded the full amount. Will I be? No, because this isn't the first time nor the last that she will do this to people. I read reviews such as this on Yelp and I should've known better. Shame on this business for treating your customers so terribly.

Negative experience: Very deceiving. Went in only looking for a 6 month contract, talked with team member and signed the papers being too trusting. Was signed up for a year contract and now can’t get out of it. Make sure you pay attention when signing up and you’re getting exactly what you want. I made the mistake of thinking verbal communication was enough. Also would like to point out that this also happened to a friend of mine but he was able to get out of the contract because he moved AND there are more reviews similar to my situation from recently, even though the owner tried telling me I am the only person this has happened to...
Hi Jason, we have 6 month and annual contracts, the price you were paying was for an annual contract as listed when you are signing up. I am sorry you didn't understand the price structure but we try to be an open book and have to have agreements in place for the pricing structure.

Fantastic experience: Facility is open 24/7 — the height of availability. Invariably, everyone I've seen working at ALASKA FITNESS is competent and congenial without being smarmy. They're good people and always helpful. The gym offers a wide variety of exercise machines. I especially like the new machines installed this year. The people using them, the gym rats, are serious without being judgmental. No body nazis, no more-fit-than-thou airs here. We're all working out only to work out.
