Our comment from Nutrifinder.net about Greater Baltimore Medical Center:
The Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) is recognized for its highly professional healthcare staff, providing quality care to patients. Many users have praised the hospital for its caring and attentive nurses, who often go above and beyond to ensure patient comfort and wellbeing. The emergency room staff, despite being busy, are noted for their friendliness and dedication to patient care.
Visitors have shared experiences highlighting the cleanliness and comfort of the private rooms, especially in the ICU, where attentive medical professionals provided thorough care. A significant number of patients have expressed appreciation for the quality of treatment during critical times, especially in labor and delivery.
However, there are substantial concerns about long waiting times, particularly in the emergency department, where some individuals reported waits of several hours without being seen by a doctor. Additionally, issues regarding parking, communication, and coordination among staff have also been raised, leading to a frustrating experience for some patients.
In summary, while GBMC has highly compassionate staff and a reputation for quality medical care, management should address the efficiency of operations and patient flow to enhance the overall experience.
Greater Baltimore Medical Center: Reviews
Fantastic experience: one of the best hospitals i ever been too! even tho i wait long i always get taken care of very well! nurses are so nice & patient with me . always checks up on me to make sure i am ok
Negative experience: Spent 11 hours there in the waiting area. Charged insurance thousands of dollars in tests. No one ever gave us the results of the test and never spoke to a doctor about the results. Was never discharged but never admitted. Had to remove my own catheter to leave. Still have no idea of the test results. Ended up leaving in the morning to go to work with out being informed of anything. Complete waste of time. Thanks gbmc. They should not be compensated for any service or tests because they failed to provide anything

Negative experience: Arrived at 5:30 pm. Was triaged within an hour. Did not leave until after 2:30am and was never put in a room. Sat in the waiting room for the entirety of the visit. Staff were courteous, but not hospitable.

Negative experience: The parking situation for patients with a medical appointment is beyond horrible. Today, the traffic going into the parking garage near the West Pavillion was backed up almost to the Day Care Center. Everytime I’ve come to GBMC for an appointment, no matter what time of day, it’s taken me at least 30 extra minutes to get into the garage and find a parking space. This is unacceptable, disrespectful to patients and something needs to be done to fix this problem. The new garage is not accessible for patients seeing Dr.’s in the West and East Pavillions.

Negative experience: I would give this hospital no stars if I could. I came in b/c my c-section opened back up and I was here at 7pm and still freaking waiting. This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. I have never waited this long.

Negative experience: I have been here for over 6 hours now and have had X-ray done and EKG and blood tests but haven't talked to a doctor not once. I have never been to an emergency room and not seen a doctor but had all these tests done. I have asked several times to see a doctor but haven't seen one. I would appreciate someone telling me there aren't any on staff or something because I am concerned about my health situation and this makes me worry more. I paid a 250 co pay and haven't seen not one doctor. This is unbelievable. I don't know what else to do.

Negative experience: From the ER to the observation room to the regular room has been miserable. These people don't care. Rooms are small and when they moved her to a bigger room only a hard chair available to sit on. The little 'couch' is being used for storage. My wife is still here. Last time we come here, it will be St. Joseph next time.
Positive experience: The hospital is overall decent but the parking situation is just dumb with way too much valet parking and a stressful garage situation with one way in and one way out. If you NEED to make people pay for parking maybe have more efficient ticket booths with working people.
Negative experience: I usually love this hospital but my visit today was the most unpleasant visit I’ve had since I started coming, outside of COVID which I understand. Nurse in peds was very rude and thought she could raise her tone at me. Took over 8 hours for them to tell me the results of my daughter’s xray. Her nasty tone left a nasty taste for this hospital.not to mention the peds waiting room looks horrible and half abandoned. I passed two hospitals to get to GBMC but for as long as we waited I could have just went to the other two. The wait was giving Sinai and Northwest. We got there at 4 we finally left out by midnight and still never saw a dr. We was there for 8 hours and at that point my daughter was starving. We bought all the chips and snacks. Thanks for wasting my money and time
Negative experience: I love GBMC normally. Had good experience with nurses and staff. The room my mother is in is very dirty and small. The admitting doctor was gruff at best. Did not want to listen. Felt very rushed. Mother has been here overnight. No one has helped her brush her teeth yet. Food is horrible.

Negative experience: Never go to GBMC emergency room! They are horrible and extremely rude. They would not let me go back in ER room with my disabled daughter (communication disorder) for 20 minutes and gave unauthorized tests. Go somewhere else.

Negative experience: I will not be returning to this hospital. I understand protocol yet no one listened to me. I left this hospital in so many tears the doctor was rude disrespectful unprofessional and did not listen to anything I had to say let alone looked at my previous diagnosis two days ago at a Urgent Care with worsening symptoms instead I was told to go home and follow up with my primary care provider. No CT scan no explanation no MRI just another chest xray with an ekg and blood drawn. Blood work abdominal yet no additional test left the hospital feeling worse then when I came except left with tears coming down my face. Told to take Motrin and Tylenol for the chest pain pressure in my head dizziness weakness fatigue nausea neck pain upper back pain tingling/numbness in my spine muscle spasms along with numbness of the face. No exam just listen to my lungs that's it. If I had a different skin color then maybe a doctor would actually listen. If I could give them a zero I definitely would.

Negative experience: I have two of the best doctors at GBMC. My oncologist and Primary Care Doctor are excellent. However, I witnessed poor customer service and a high degree of rudeness from a medical clerk at the Breast Center today. It was so bad I chose not to be treated today. You never know what someone may be going through when they come in for care. What I witnessed today of how another patient was treated was really sad.

Negative experience: Good luck navigating this mess. The audacity to charge for parking!
Positive experience: Parking is difficult. I can't locate valet. I can't find handicap spaces. I can't find a shuttle. Every parking space requires a good walk. Not easy on us older folks with arthritis, etc. And because it takes me so long to walk back and forth to car, I end up paying $6 for parking every visit. Otherwise I like the medical staff here.
Thank you for your note. We apologize for your experience. Visit https://www.gbmc.org/patients-and-visitors/parking/ for information about the valet and shuttle services for a future visit. If you have additional parking questions, please contact Nick Kokkinakos, Senior Manager of Safety & Security. Nick can be reached at 443-849-4362 or [email protected].
Positive experience: I think it is a crying shame that this hospital charges patients and visitors to park. GBMC overall, as a hospital is very good. I have three doctors that I see here. Some will validate, others are told they are “No longer allowed to.” Why are some offices “allowed” while others are not? Do I stop seeing my doctor that I like??? What I will do is check to see if they have their practice in any other location and go there because you are not charged to park at private offices. What is the purpose of charging people to park when they are “captive” with no alternative??? It is extortion in my opinion.
Negative experience: They don't care if you are comfortable or not. The ICU unit is the worst. ldf you can avoid The food is late or just never arrived. Crystal A Pernasilice is the worst, does not care about your comfort, and rude. The doctors make promises they don't keep. They prefer you lay in a bed In discomfort. lunch still not here again. So l got a tv dinner. 8-8-24 go to another hospital. Expect hundreds of other reviews.

Fantastic experience: After reading all the terrible reveiws, I decide to honestly write my own. First the ER, showed up with some scary symptoms. Was evaluated imediatly then put in waiting room to wait to.be taken for a test. We sat a bit waiting for test results and was told I was going to be admitted. Everyone in ER was pleasent and careing. The beauutiful room on the 5th floor. Nice large space, private bathroom. Everyone knocks politly before coming in. The nurses, med techs, food delivery people, phlebotomists, everyone was kind and polite. There was explanatuions for everything. I went in with a scary situation and the staff showed concern and compassion. Special shout out to staff in CT scan, cardiolgy, IR, and the staff of the 5th floor. Thanks for all the great care, my few short days there. Would definitly stay there again need be. I was very impressed. Thank you Lisa
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We wish you all the best.
Fantastic experience: As every public health institution GBMC can have their bad days however it's the physicians that make the experience. NP Megan is one of the best providers at GBMC. I felt the most comfortable under her care. I wouldn't recommend another hospital for great service and thorough care. Continue attracting great talent like Megan!
Negative experience: This hospital seems severely understaffed. People are in the ER waiting room looking like they won't make it to treatment, young and old. 3+ hour wait times are ridiculous. If your ailment doesn't kill you the anxiety experienced while waiting to be seen by seemingly nobody will. Why is the system down with a waiting room full of sick patient's? In the middle of the night? Unreal. Management should be ashamed of themselves.
Negative experience: Let me tell you the people who work in the EMERGENCY ROOM are the WORST! Especially the Black People who forget they are BLACK! the smell I'm the ER ROOM smells INFECTUOUS. I was guided to a bathroom that had blood on the toilet paper, and the bathroom was Discusting. Wonder why COVID EXSISTED! DIRTY HOSPITALS!!! WITH NASTY ATTITUDE PEOPLE WHO ARE DEALING WITH SICK PEOPLE AND THERE FAMILY MEMBERS I SUGGEST A TRAINING IN EMPATHY!

Fantastic experience: I needed a copy of my records from an ER experience I encountered on May 17, 2024. I needed a copy of a disk and had the pleasure of talking with Tracy Brown in your records dept. It felt like I was talking to an old friend. Her customer service skills were on point. I had to pick up my records and because I use a cane, I did not know how I could possibly get to the records dept to pick them up. Tracy was sweet enough to meet me at my car. Who does that? I really needed those records and Tracy made it worth my while to make the trip alone to pick them up. You need more like Tracy. She cares about those that she come into contact with. Thank you Tracy, if this is how you treat all your clients you should be recognized for your customer service skills.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Wishing you all the best.
Negative experience: Avoid this place at all costs. The staff are great. Whoever is running this facility and the board of directors need to resign and return all the money they took out of the place for the last 10 years No signage, no parking, no pedestrian thoroughfares Again staff is wonderful and doing way more than they should have to due to the lack of management and leadership The facility is a nightmare and i am glad i have no mobility issues Stay away

Fantastic experience: I have been in a lot of emergency rooms this is something out of the ordinary, from the second I came in I didn't have to wait a second for anything should be done, All the doctors nurses are super nice and helpful!!
Negative experience: I am giving 2 stars because the ER and ancillary departments were excellent. I came to the ER and was diagnosed with a kidney stone in my ureter which was also kinked, Bacteremia, sepsis. The nurses in the ER could not have been any better. I was sent for multiple tests and then to the OR for a stent placed in my ureter. I was then was admitted to unit 36. It was an awful experience. The room was dirty, have NO idea what the white stuff was under my bed was, which I discovered days later. I cleaned my bathroom floor with wet towels. The shower was gross but I needed to at least try to clean myself. The first intern had to be fired for too many reasons to write about. The one good thing I can say is Dr. Ward seemed to be on top of things, but unfortunately, I only had her for 2 days. I am a RN and former employee there. Maybe the nursing training has changed since I left. The care was non existent except for 2 nurses who actually did their jobs. Jordan and unfortunately I cannot remember the young lady's name who also seemed to know what being a nurse was. My daughter who is the easiest going person I know also was disgusted with the care I received and vowed NEVER to let me go there again for anything. She as well as the physician I work for, were quite disappointed with the lack of medical care I received. I on more than one occasion had to request my own labs, which caused me to be stuck more than I should have. Thanks to the nurse Jordan (who was not my nurse at the time), he was able to save my IV since the nurse I was assigned to, did nothing. This is just one example. I have many. If you are truly sick or have NO advocate to stay with you, stay away from this hospital. They have definitely changed since I worked there. So sad, that the medical profession no longer cares. It used to be HealthCARE. Now who knows what it is, Just a disgrace. Try St. Joe's. Wish I had of gone there.

Negative experience: GBMC used to be a women’s hospital. When I asked for all women healthcare providers, I was told that that was a possibility. But it’s not and they insisted on making me use a male healthcare provider.
Negative experience: Don’t rely on their social workers to help your family. They are not helping anyone but their paycheck. Dee Flowers my sisters social Worker was the worst. Discharged my sister on a Friday, the worst possible day and the receiving location did not speak to us at all. GBMC is the WORST!!! The only good employee we had was a nurse named Kiron on the 4th floor. DON’T GO TO GBMC
Negative experience: The wait time to get out of the parking lot was worse than the wait time in the doctor's office. I escorted an elderly person to see her doctor. Once I dropped her off in front of the building where her doctor's office was located, I went and parked my car. After leaving the doctor's office, I went to retrieve my car to pick up my elderly friend who I left in the lobby of the doctor's office.. It took approximately 20 minutes to get out of the parking garage. This either has to be improved or stop charging people to park... My friend became very anxious, and she thought I left her in the lobby and went home without her.
Fantastic experience: I suggest everyone who one see my reviews GBMC only best hospital in the Baltimore city and worst one Franklin secure
Negative experience: Awful experience and with only one exception, a lack of bedside manner throughout. We were really just a number and placed in a small room by construction that never seemed to end.
Positive experience: The time u spend waiting in the ER is terrible, but the doctors and technicians are very good. Number of beds seem to be lacking.
Negative experience: There is absolutely NO excuse for this or any other emergency room to except walk in patients when the wait time exceeds 2 plus hours. Its the same thing they do for ambulances when they redirecting them to another hospital when there ER department is at capacity. There are people in the ER that have been here 9 plus hours still waiting to se a Dr. It's not the staff's fault I sure it's the hospital management which in my opinion that's the president, and or the board of directors decision which I guess is all about the God almighty dollar, NOT the patient.
Positive experience: My experience the past weekend was good, all of the nurses were were extremely knowledgeable and helpful to me and my husband while we waited for my admission. The technician in the lab were I had a " non-ambulatory" stress test her name is Heather she was the best ❤️. My nurse Amina was Great!!
Negative experience: Sonographer ob clinic - ZEE extremely unprofessional attitude from start was horrible did not take to common questions that we’ve asked every visit 20 week scan she didn’t try to get decent pics of baby didn’t try other positions or anything just stopped 15min into a 1hr scan never experienced this before getting a sonogram which most parents look forward to during visits very disappointed
Negative experience: I used to love this place, I birthed my child here and i used to come here for many other issues. Tonight I came in because i literally split my toe in half meat/ nail. I have been sitting in the waiting room for 7 hours already and have now been told i still have 3 people ahead of me. My whole foot is swollen at this point i did not get any pain meds until about 2 hrs ago.. this is absolutely insane.
Negative experience: I went to GBMC by ambulance for abdominal pain. "Dr." Dov Frankel misdiagnosed me and discharged me, still suffering and in pain. He said he couldn't admit me because he didn't have "access" to the equipment needed to diagnose me and I needed a diagnosis to be admitted. What nonsense is that? I went to another doctor and found out I have a serious medical condition that Dov Frankel didn't even discuss with me or test me for. Avoid this hospital!
Negative experience: This is a terrible hospital. I’ve been there since last week following a hip surgery. They have done nothing to manage my pain or muscle spasms despite being a stroke survivor and dealing with spastic hemiparesis. I take prescribed medication for this and despite that and my pain levels, they refused to even get a neurological consult for my issues stating that it was just “spasms”. It is spastic hemiparesis for which I take Baclofen. They are obviously in the pocket of the pharmaceutical companies when I can request an opioid for pain every 3 hours but can not get prescribed medication that I have been taking for years. They’ve increased it but I had to call the neurology department in the hospital in order for this to happen (they fussed at me for it). I called my own neurologist and asked what to do and he said to have them increase the medication and offered to call them for me. They want me in rehab but I’m in spasm and contracture so bad I can’t move. The pharmacy here can apparently schedule meds whenever they want as opposed to opioids that I can literally get upon request every 3 hours. This is disgusting and so horrible I have no words.
Fantastic experience: I recently had a life changing surgery and overnight during recovery I had an EXCELLENT nurse (Tasha Sassafras) and tech (Brenda) they really listened to my concerns, making sure I was very comfortable. They truly made this experience so comfortable and less nerve wracking during recovery. I 100% would recommend them for care. These are true medical professionals with tons of empathy. God bless them! Thank you Tasha & Brenda!! Additionally, my surgery was done by Dr. Daya, him & his entire team are heaven sent and paid very close attention to detail, from Dr.Valdez, to the anesthesiologist (she’s a doctor —so sorry I forgot her name), the nurse courtney called me the day before the surgery and was SO kind and answered all my questions. Once I came in the next day for surgery, she stayed by my side essentially the whole time prior to the surgery and really helped me stay in ease. Bethany (who looks like Sandra Bullock hehe ) was also extremely helpful. 10/10 teams I mentioned here! Thank you all so much!!
Negative experience: This locations service and staff has definitely declined over the years but it is cleaner than many of the surrounding hospitals. Their check in process starts with receiving a booklet that would be efficient if they actually filled it out along the way. They have boards to show where you are on the waiting list but they aren’t really accurate. However, 95% of the staff is always friendly and helpful; which is a relief when you are already coming to a place at your worst.
Fantastic experience: The staff is so nice and make the experience of being at the hospital less horrible. I love the nurses and doctors and everyone there. I had a c section 6 months ago and mentally I don’t think I could’ve handled it without them. I had another surgery today and again, they were so kind and helpful. I will never go to any other hospital. The wait wasn’t too horrible, they were on top of stuff, explained everything in layman terms, checked on me, everything. My nurses Alexa and Brandi were so nice and reassuring when I was anxious about leaving my baby at home. I truly appreciate their kindness and sincerity. ❤️
Negative experience: Dr was great facility is a hot mess! I’ve seen inner city hospitals more organized than this place! Waiting 1/2 hour to get out of a parking garage and you charge me!! I will actively look for doctors NOT at this hospital!
Negative experience: The worse service in the free world. People that are supposed to help are sitting around munching. Snack time should never be at the desk. Some patient is riding his kid around in a wheel chair as if it's a carnival ride. It's absolutely ridiculous . We were there from 6p.m. thru...it is now 2:15a.m. and we still aren't being attended to. I would never recommend this place to anyone. It's just horrible.
Negative experience: As a health care professional this has been the worst experience ever! My son is only 10 months old with fever and man oh man worst treatment we could receive!! What aggravated me the most was on our way out one of the nurses yelled my sons test results she said mom did you know your son proceeded to say his results out loud!! THATS HIPPA!!
Negative experience: This place is the worst! The longest waits for no reason! It took two hours to be seen. The waiting room is extremely uncomfortable! For the love of God, if you are ill, do not come here it will only make it worse.
Negative experience: Had us wait for several hours. Kicked me out the hospital in the rain. If you’re black you might as well try to heal yourself or go to Good Samaritan where they want us to go. They couldn’t wait to kick me out. I rather die then go back.
Negative experience: I must speak honestly about my experience thus far with this business. I've called twice now to set up an appointment for an Echocardiogram and both times, no one is in the know of what's going on.... No one received the referral... They don't know each department's fax number... They don't know who is affiliated with the hospital. Grant it, their telephone mannerisms were nice but speaking to the staff was equivalent to endless roads that led to dead ends and u-turns. It's as if everyone exchanged their brains for helium. Very bizarre and a cause for concern!! The interactions with the personnel at GBMC this week raised my anxiety and it's telling me to abandon ship and look for a new Primary provider. To be honest, I started to get the feeling of distrust when the PCP ordered medication for me and never went over the pros and cons of its usage. I paid $100 for medicine that I did not use because the effects were extremely dangerous. I also was billed for $345 for a monitor that I had to wear for 2 weeks and asked my PCP about it only to be told it's fine as nothing was a cause of concern. For that amount I would expect to go over statistics and trends and notations. The integrity of this business is not up to par with my standards. I will be going elsewhere.
Negative experience: This used to be a really good hospital 40 years ago .After traveling around the country and living in different locations, I realize how awful this hospital is now. Anything that GBMC touches, like their satellite offices, and businesses they buy, takes a downward trajectory.
Negative experience: This really pains me. I've preferentially selected GMBC ER over all others in Baltimore since 2000 because they used to be much more expedient. Waiting times were reasonable, even when busy. I can't even say Covid is the cause of this because they started getting about as bad as the other ERs before Covid struck. I've been here going on 9 hours and have YET to see even a PA. It's bad.
Negative experience: Spent 4 hours in the ER, waiting on an X-ray, until the everyone in the entire waiting room had been seen. When asked, staff admitted that I had been forgotten during the shift change. Immediately after, someone who had just arrived was taken back for an X-ray. If you have a choice, choose any other nearby hospital (Union Memorial, University of Maryland, etc.) but this nightmare.
Negative experience: This is the worst hospital in Baltimore County. The lack of care behavioral health patients recieve is absymsal and the staff there should be investigated. I requested the contact information for patient Advocacy only for the nurse on duty, Caroline to provide the incorrect number. A treatment plan was set with the client and psychiatrist on duty ( I can not recall her name however she is a short East Indian woman that has only been there two weeks) that included ridding the client of her "sitter" (who was the ONLY conpassionate person) only for her to make no notes for the upcoming staff. I will be filing a complaint with the Maryland Department of Health along with emailing the executive leadership team. Deplorable.
Negative experience: The most hurtful and violating thing happened to me. Someone who works here access my medical record and collected information on me in a clinic I never stepped foot in. When I tried to get the name of the person who did the hospital Seem more worried about protecting this person than me. As a long time patient I really felt so hurt and less trusting of this hospital and all I wanted was the person name so I can press charges. Like this is so neglectful on the hospital. It was my personal information this person collected but they rather protect the intruder. The person should really be behind bars for violating hippa laws.
Positive experience: Ataliya Yocheved Shlomit was born here, we received wonderful care. My birth plan was respected, except for where it conflicted with hospital regulations. I do wish I was able to move around to help manage labor pain like they allowed me at GW hospital in DC with my previous daughter. We did have a hiccup when the pipes burst over our bed, the nurses came immediately, and moved us along with all our things to another room. I was also provided cloth diapers once they knew I was cloth diapering. We visited GMBC from June 6, 2021 I til June 9th, 2021. I was allowed to labor naturally with monitoring. It was a challenge not being able to manage my labor pain like I wanted and them not allowing me to deliver my baby in a position that was comfortable for me. On my back and sitting up is definitely not the best way to labor. For that reason I wouldn’t go back. The main reason I chose to give birth here due to low c-section rate, which for that main reason I am glad I chose to give birth there.
Negative experience: Had some issues with some "floaters" on/in my eye. Explained my situation during triage. About 2-3hrs later I was seen by a doctor to address my concerns. Unfortunately, I needed an ophthalmologist and was greeted by an optometrist who couldn't assist me. Wasted night
Negative experience: I'm only giving this two stars because everyone was nice and friendly. Came in with leg and ankle swelling. No dvts but urgent care was also concerned that it may have something to do with my heart. They didn't even do a blood workup, echo, or xray of my heart. The doctor that I saw seemed like he was in a hurry and diagnosed me with leg swelling and told me to follow-up with my pcp. I will not be going back to this hospital.
Fantastic experience: We came to gbmc for my son and they were very fast getting us a room in the pediatric emergency department and we have had the best care from all nurses and doctors, and very thorough evaluation I feel very comfortable and well taken care of here
Fantastic experience: I went to this ER after wasting my time at an urgent care that took my money and told me I should have gone to ER. I was quickly triaged and blood/urine samples equally quickly taken. Everybody there was *so freaking nice* and I really felt like they cared about my health. The wait was very long, but you'd expect that at an ER. What I didn't expect was how awesome and friendly all the staff were.
Fantastic experience: I will continue to come to GBMC ER if I need medical attention in the future. They are efficient, kind, and I believe they care a great deal about what they do there. I have been impressed by their staff on all levels. ER nursing staff on up through Doctor levels took time and extra care with this sick patient. I am grateful.
Fantastic experience: GBMC has provided the best care for my mother. Thank you to the amazing staff for your kindness, patience, compassion and for being so helpful.
Negative experience: My sister was a nurse at this hospital. They misdiagnosed her cancer and then fired her for missing work because of her cancer. I would never go this hospital. They should be charged criminally for their actions.
Negative experience: WORST ER EVER!!!! Wish I could give 0 stars!!!!! Dirty, filled with junkies, chaotic, no order! Wait time is horrible. Some people in here look near death and they are still WAITING!!! Shame on you GBMC!!!!!
Negative experience: Worse ER ever. Checked in at 7pm didn’t get back to a room until 11:58 it’s after 3:30am in the morning and a doctor has yet to come in and see me. Then I inform them I need to use the restroom, so they need to unhook me and they have a nerve to ask for urine after I’ve been sitting in a room for over 3 hours. The level of care is absolutely horrible. The fact I seen my nurse once in 3 hours & I called for her to come and its 30 mins later & she shows up like “yes” There is absolutely no reason I should be sitting in a room for 3 hours when all my blood was drawn while I was waiting my test results came back while in the waiting room I have a pic line in my arm I’m completely ready for a doctor and I have to complain to get seen. They either making us sitting ducks for some money or something really wrong in this place and they need help getting it back together.
Negative experience: Gavr birth to my son here and was discharged after being monitored for HBP, with no precautionary medication, only to end up in the ER days later with severe eclampsia. Could've had a stroke. 2 stars for one nurse and tech who were great during my time there. The rest, terrible.
Negative experience: Not a bad hospital but their not good either don’t have much knowledge of dealing with sickle cell patients. They will definitely try to admit you, if you choose not to be they will stop giving you care and discharge you instantly and as I was coming in they discharged this older lady and it was pour down raining not a care in the world they was worried about changing shifts to leave.
Negative experience: I was born at this hospital in 1990 and it has been the main location for me and my family’s drs for years. There has been a RAPID decline of the care and sensitivity of the drs and nurses here. I was in the Pediatric ER last night for my daughter who had a badly sprained ankle. When the drs and nurses in the ER interact with patients (especially patients of color) it’s appears their main goal is to brush your symptoms and make you feel like you’re over-reacting for being there instead of actually listening to the patients. This has increasingly been my experience with them for the past 5 years. This hospital is currently putting millions into building new buildings while the medical staff becomes more and more white and less compassionate and inclusive. I would not recommend that any people of color do business with this hospital on any level. The staff , especially in the ER, do not reflect the Baltimore community and that makes this place dangerous. Corporate greed has ruined GBMC.
Negative experience: DR.MIRZA BAIG‼️ is the worse doctor I’ve had to deal with. He was rude, very impatient, not sympathetic at all and disregarded the fact I was alone. I had an abscess in my mouth which he drained. he also didn’t gave me any pain medication. Because I was alone I was on the phone with my boyfriend and Dr. Baig took my phone and hung up the call. Thank you nurse Jessica, she was amazing and i would vouch for her a million times.
Positive experience: I was in the hospital back in end of august till mid September and has Dr. Raisenghani had consulted with me on my situation and she was completely unprofessional toward me and didn’t even try to understand me and disrespected my wishes wanting not to speak with her again during my stay. I am traumatized because of the situation she and the social worker put me in. They didn’t even try to understand what I was going through. Therefore I have immense anger toward Dr. Raisenghani for utter disrespect and unprofessionalism towards me. However, I would like to give a shout out to my nurses in the psychiatric unit especially Brooke, who really understood me and really was the best.
Negative experience: Jacqueline D Knox needs to be let go .. at what point should you not do the one job you have ?? She decided not to inform the parents of a three year old child that his surgery had been delayed for more than four hours.. this child had to suffer thirst ,hunger, and reapplication of burning eye drops being put in multiple times because of her lack of coordination with doctors, nurses and patients parents .. when confronted her attitude was worse than expected. She tried to deny the situation even happened . Please get people like this outta here .. her negligence and disrespectful towards patients n doctors will carry serious implications and possible complications. Her actions have all ready been reported to the state medical board..

Negative experience: Took my daughter to the ER for abdominal pain and the PA she saw was great however, Skylar the LPN at the desk was rude. I had a question after my daughter saw the PA as to the necessity of a CT scan and thought maybe an x-ray or abdominal ultrasound could be used as diagnostic tools in place of CT scan. She wanted to answer my question rather than getting PA. An LPN has limited nursing knowledge so I didn’t want to hear it from her. She said she would ask PA to come speak to me and 2 hours later I’m still waiting. I reached out to several medical professionals that I know and got my answers.

Negative experience: It's going on 3 years sent covid hit and they are still not allowing visitors under the age 5 . Which is unfair , don't know ppl situation on why they have to bring there kids along
Fantastic experience: My husband was in the icu for suspected stroke and the icu unit was great, they go above and beyond to make sure you're ok. They also found other important health issues while he was there so I am very grateful that they are thorough
Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. Wishing you and your family all the best.
Negative experience: Here at the ER now all I can say is Wow! This place has gone down hill from what it was years ago. The Nurses are the worst, they give you an attitude when you ask about your status… you are stuck in a waiting room for hours they run test and give you no updates. As a matter of fact they don’t even give you a room. Shocked I don’t think I would come back to this ER after today.
Negative experience: This hospital left my daughter with permanent bladder damage. After a very painful surgery, my daughter couldn't get out of bed, or even move, and the doctor and nurses refused to place a catheter. She was forced to hold her urine for 8.5 hours, which resulted in a permanent, painful urinary retention condition. Once they finally did place a catheter, they had to do a bladder scan every 6 hours. This is absolutely the WORST hospital we have ever dealt with. There was gross mistreatment occurring every day. The doctors and nurses do not care about the patients.
Fantastic experience: During our lives, we meet alot of people. Some are purely unforgettable. I have been here at GBMC since the 20th of December. Hailey, Mario, Nick, Kim, Tia and the list goes on of the nurses, techs and students I have met. Hidden in Towson, there is this group of people that are unicorns. They are by far the most caring, kind, special, thoughtful people you will ever meet. They have a goal to make you better and they do it effortlessly. I don't know who will see this but someone needs to recognize this group of men and women who are definitely the angels among us. Thank you to you all for everything you did/are doing to make my life easier while I am here with equipment that hinders you every step of the way. You are appreciated more than you could ever know.
Negative experience: On November 24 at 5:20 I went to ER to GBMC with a child of 8 years old, I had to take my daughter with me because I am a single mother. I left spontaneously after two hours, they did only a blood work and eventhood I was expressing that I was not feeling well, I did not see any doctor nor a nurse. Respect and passion are part of this job, they did not even consider the fact that I was there so early with a sleepy poor child .
Negative experience: Pediatric unit time is horrible. One doctor for 12 plus patients. 2 hours for Covid results and that’s only one test. Been here over 4 hours some people have been here for 7+ hours , disgrace. But great job on taking the homeless and druggies first real contributors to society
Fantastic experience: e.r was very crowded but staff was friendly and helpful. the nurses ge ge and Georgia on unit 46 were amazing, best I have ever had in any hospital stay or medical need. jen is doplar scan area was also very friendly and engaging and put me at ease while they checked my legs for blood clots.
Fantastic experience: In December 2019 I met the kindest gbmc jewish doctor- real professional!!! I had been to another hospital for a serious fever, sore throat etc., but was still sick but Gbmc took care of me like a queen!!! My second experience is with my primary care physician!! The lowest of the low healthcare provider!!! Gbmc is the best hospital in Baltimore and I want everyone to know it. I thank all the nurses and doctors I was privileged to meet also!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Negative experience: Went in for chest pains and leg pain. I just now walked out, never been to a hospital where the nurses have such bad attitudes that you just want to leave and take your chances. There was no warmth or compassion in them at all. Just aggravation and short tempers, coldness that made me super uncomfortable
Fantastic experience: We had our first child born at GBMC in October 2022. The experience with GBMC from labor & delivery, recovery and NICU was top notch. Staff were friendly, attentive, very professional and facility is clean. Having a baby that needs a NICU stay, we were definitely parents in distress but we’re immediately comforted and reassured by the high level of professionalism, care and friendliness of the doctors, nurses and all other staff. There’s also live piano at the lobby which is nice for relaxation.
Negative experience: If you want your child to live, and not have any health problems don’t give birth here!!! After they harm you and baby they’ll send you home like nothing happened.
Negative experience: I had the worst experience ever. ER doctor and 2nd shift Nurse were so uncaring. Six hours there and couldn’t get some water or something for a headache. They are surely in the wrong field.
Negative experience: Cut my arm needed stitches waited 3hours 40 minutes still not scene. Hospital staff very rude and seem as if they could care less. When ask about time they longest wait time was 6 hours. Went elsewhere stitches in and out door in 40 minutes. I always regarded GBMC as good hospital but I’ll never go back. The staff was the worst I have ever encountered with. I know it was a small cut but it was swollen and concerning to me Wow very disappointed. Bill Streett
Negative experience: This has been better far the worst facility I ever went to. My daughter was given an date and time for induced labor on a Sunday at 9pm, my daughter gets here and we was told to wait an hour for a room. We have been setting for 3 hours waiting for a room. We asked the nurse why was we still waiting this long and we were told that any women that comes in here that is in labor goes before my daughter no matter the time she was set up to be induced. It's not fair as patient to be told a set time and then you still waiting. Not to mention the nurse said you suppose to call a hour before your appointment which no one absolutely no one told my daughter this information at all. The nurse keep coming to ask us if we want to go home and wait til they call us back for a room. I asked them are you gonna reimburse my gas for coming here. Like this and then going home and then having to come right back. This is crazy, and we still waiting. Do not come here to delivery your babies you will not be treated right. An the nurse was being smart. My daughter has been checked but waiting for hours just sitting here. I will be reporting to the insurance company of this issue also because they will try to charge you just for waiting.
Negative experience: Beware of out-of-network costs at the ER even if this hospital is considered in-network for your insurance plan. The ER contracts doctors and technicians that are employed from external companies that don't fall under the same insurance coverage as the hospital. I've had to visit the ER multiple times, and each time I've received a bill from these external companies for thousands of dollars months after I paid the original hospital bill.
Negative experience: This hospital kill my brother's first son. My brother's wife went there when they first found out that she was pregnant. She has a weak cervix and the hospital knew about it but did not take proper care and she end up giving birth at 6months. While they where in the hospital my brother requested for the baby to be put into the incubator minutes after birth but the hospital refuse because they did not see the need and my brother son pass away on his wife hands while the nurse was checking him minutes after he requested incubator. please do not take your pregnant wife to this hospital. This was his first son he has been praying for and was taking away by this hospital. I wish I can give zero stars because they do not deserve one star. Our mom and his wife can't stop crying. Our family is hurting
Negative experience: My life ended at this ER, and my family lost everything. No, this is not fiction or a bad dream, although I wish it were. I had excruciatingly painful, life-threatening, gangrenous, ruptured appendicitis with peritonitis--along with all the obvious symptoms--but was secretly diagnosed with an "anxiety disorder" by an arrogant, condescending, incompetent, greedy ER doctor. (Yes, that old chestnut: if you're a woman, especially one who has just had a baby, it must all be in your head! Your pain cannot possibly be higher than a "10." Also, the ER doctor does not actually work for this hospital; he's just an independent contractor who can and will have his way with you!) I tried to get a second opinion and to transfer myself to another hospital, but the doctor refused my requests. I was too weak and in far too much pain to walk out. Pain medication, life-saving antibiotics and fluids were withheld because the dismissive, condescending nurses could not insert an IV line, rupturing the veins in both my arms. One nurse dismissively wrote in my records that I had been "confused" when I told her I was starving to death. Already too thin from vomiting black, foul-smelling liquid, I lost 10 more pounds in just two days at GBMC because the doctor needlessly had me NPO. Yet my abdomen blew up to a size larger than when I had been nine-months pregnant. By the time I contacted a patient advocate at ANOTHER hospital and obtained permission to transfer there, I had horrible abscesses the size of footballs and black and blue arms, conditions which the ambulance medic recorded but GBMC just didn't care to notice. I developed numerous, excruciatingly painful infectious complications (including a complete colon blockage and twisting of the mesentary from having no internal body fat) and required three additional, horribly painful emergency abdominal surgeries within two months. Due to the ruptured veins in my arms, the nurses had to use both my hands for the numerous IV lines. And I spent time in the ICU where I underwent excruciatingly painful NG treatments. After I was discharged, I was disfigured, disabled and in pain. I could not care for myself or my infant daughter. I could not work. I was no longer able to carry a pregnancy. My husband lost his job for spending too much time caring for us. I later required extensive reconstructive abdominal surgery to close a 12"×5" hole in my abdomen, reconnect my detached abdominal muscles and detach my colon from where it was attached to my skin. I now have no belly button and am essentially not human anymore. If you value your life and family, stay away from this ER at all costs. And please remember that you do have rights, including the right to leave.
Negative experience: On 8/4/2022 the care I received at GBMC was inappropriate. The ER doctor (Matz) displayed that she was annoyed by KP referring a patient to them to avoid exposure to Covid in their facility. When asked to explain further why I was sent, I told her that the KP doctor was unresponsive to my symptoms until suicidal ideation was in the message. She then accused me of saying those things to get attention. When it was time for discharge, she sent in her team to intimidate me, threatening to confiscate my personal items, falsely implying that I had to be retained. If it were legitimate to retain me, I would not have been able to walk out. Upon my exit forced to rip out my own IV, because I had to escape, causing a bloody scene, and most of all trauma. No one should be made to feel like they have to escape a hospital when they come in for care. This tactic was malicious and inappropriate. The incident triggered PTSD for me, from something that occurred in my youth.
Negative experience: We have been waiting for ever since 8 am and right now is 3:30, couple tests were done but we have not gotten an update. Is surprising that this place got a Balridge award.
Negative experience: I would not recommend even trying to contact this organization. I tried contacting them see about getting my mother admitted to their inpatient rehabilitation center, and was subjected to about 30 minutes of the most frustrating experience I could have ever imagined. First, the hospital operator connected me to the wrong department TWICE. The second time, the department I was forwarded to ended up disconnecting me. They did give me a number to call, however, in case anything went wrong. It was a FAX machine; so, no dice there. Then, I looked on the web site for the rehabilitation center phone number. When I called that, I kept getting disconnected. After several tries at that, I gave up. Even after calling the main hospital number to make a complaint, the operator forwarded me to yet another number. It was voice mail telling me I'd reached the wrong department, and that I'd have to call the main hospital number to make a complaint. Really? That's what I just did, and now it's forwarding me back to the main hospital number? WOW!! It's impossible to even submit a complaint!! This has to be the worst-managed facility I have ever seen... and I've seen some pretty bad ones. I honestly don't know how anyone could make their way to the correct department, given everything I experienced. With this level of utter incompetence, just within the phone system, I am no longer even considering entrusting this organization with the care of my dear mother.
Fantastic experience: I had nothing but a positive experience with all of the staff that I met during my visit on 6/11/22. Main Lobby staff was A1, as well as all of the Support Staff that help me navigate through the halls. The Nursing Staff were very professional and the 7p-7a shift were amazing; they were so accommodating, kind and diligent in their duties. Unbeknownst to the staff, I too am a RN who was working in another role (sitter) on that evening from an outside Agency. A very special thanks to Nurse Ann and Nurse Jenifer! From: Nurse Angie!
Fantastic experience: Veronica, Millie, Dr. Russell, Kimarla....and so many others! Thank you for your service and your spirit. What a blessing you were to me. I was in emergency room at 1st yesterday...then admitted....The staff was so caring. I never had a dr/nurse explain anything to me like Mille... U areca blessing! .was just discharged from 4th floor Zone C, I believe. I can't wait to pay my bill. I almost took a star away but thought about it cause clearly they are overworked! Thank you
Negative experience: Terrible experience. I got there at 10 am and did not leave til 9 at night. Dr. Dave is incredibly rude and lacked compassion. I heard him tell the staff to “remind everyone that there is a shortage of doctors”. I understand that it is currently a struggle in the medical field right now but do not make your patients feel bad for seeking care. He took forever to see me and when he did he said about 5 words to me. My oxygen level kept on dropping and my heart rate was extremely high and yet he still discharged me. I have pylenephritis and they told me to go back if I was experiencing new symptoms such as not being able to breathe, which I was, yet they did nothing for me. They asked if I wanted pain meds even though I was already on a bunch of pain meds such as a narcotic that gave me no pain relief at all. When I asked him why do I still have so much pain and it seems to be getting worse even though I am on these antibiotics he said “I don’t have a good answer” he did not know what he was talking about. Overall, a terrible experience.
Negative experience: At gbmc right now and I can't believe how dirty this hospital is. If I could post the picture I took ewww.. I feel like you come here for one thing and walk out with two more problems just because how nasty this place is..
Negative experience: Terrible - I'm scheduled for surgery but this place is too incompetent to get a covid test done. No one is helpful and they hang up on you. My leg is shattered so its not like I can just walk around the hospital all day - why are you making things so difficult. Fix my leg! Avoid this terrible place as the ER wasn't of any use and just sent me to a building with chained up doors.
Negative experience: Terrible experience. I was in horrible pain but left at 3 a.m. after waiting 5 1/2 hours and no hope of being seen…they had NO idea how long it would be. Of course there’s triage, but this was beyond crazy. Told by a nurse that an abnormal lab result was probably result of “too much protein”- he didn’t have any idea what he was talking about. He should not have been interpreting my medical information in any case. I observed the charge nurse in the front area several times NOT WEARING A MASK. AT LEAST THREE GUARDS ALSO NOT WEARING MASKS. I was truly shocked. Staff were rude and couldn’t have cared less. Only two people out of many showed any kindness at all. The triage nurses and the phlebotomist didn’t clean between patients, didn’t wash hands and didn’t clean off the tray that they put bloodwork and COVID swabs on. Read that Maryland has worse waiting room times in the nation. I will NOT pay the bills. The labs were not collected properly, a triage nurse didn’t write down my meds or dosage correctly. Truly shocking. Somebody needs to do an undercover investigation of this place.
Fantastic experience: I have been to a few emergency rooms and this one is my go too when needed. I went a few weeks after the Christmas surge when everything kinda calmed down with COVID and hardly anyone was there. I was in and out within 2.5 -3 hours. Dr.Dov was great and had awesome bedside manners. The male nurse was really nice too and personable as well. 2 days later i went back and i also had Sarah who was a PA. She seems concerned and did everything possible to help me. Unfortunately i needed to see a specialist and had to get emergency surgery that week but the ER at GBMC did everything they could. They seemed well organized and tried their best to figure out what was wrong with me without me being there for hours while Bayview and Franklin square is always a 6+ hour wait on a slow day. Def recommend.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Hammer came in for her shift well after I was admitted for an induced labor. She was very friendly, informative and a great communicator. I love that Dr. Hammer is able to keep eye contact as she speaks to you, it made her so easy to trust! She is really calm and changed my pressured & panicky mood during my final moments of labor and delivery. During my stay in the Mother & Baby wing two of my most memorable nurses were Nurse Cynthia & Nurse Stephanie. Nurse Cynthia was caring, thoughtful, and personable just as much as she was knowledgeable and informative. Nurse Cynthia was very informative and had great communication skills as well.
Fantastic experience: I was incredibly uncomfortable and in pain. The staff is incredibly patient and kind. I was not patient until fluids and meds. The nurse matt had incredibly warm hands and mine were freezing so I wanted his hands. Long story short, I feel better now. Thanks.
Fantastic experience: They are good at what they do, but VERY busy. Expect a 4 hour wait in the waiting room. They do get you started with taking blood, giving meds-bag of fluids. What you need.
Fantastic experience: I cannot thank your organization enough, primarily your pediatric ER staff for being so kind and compassionate with my son last Sunday. You made a very scary situation very comfortable for my child. Thank you for being there on a Sunday like that.
