Negative experience: ⭐️ One Star Review I waited over a month and a half to see Dr. Nilesh A. Patel for a consultation regarding possible revision surgery after a severe hernia and prior bariatric procedure. Before the visit, I was required to complete extensive bloodwork, upper GI imaging, and submit all prior surgical records — which I did — all while being unable to eat, vomiting, and unable to swallow pills. The day before my Austin appointment, I was told Dr. Patel would not be there and I would only see a PA. After already waiting so long, I drove over 2.5 hours to San Antonio to see the surgeon. After long wait times, Dr. Patel spent only a few minutes with me, did not review or discuss any of my required imaging or test results, did not ask about my symptoms, and offered no meaningful evaluation. I was told to take better vitamins despite explaining I cannot swallow pills. I left feeling dismissed, unheard, and frustrated after paying $250 for a very brief, non-compassionate visit. I will be seeking care elsewhere and would strongly recommend looking for another surgeon if you are seeking revision surgery or complex care.

Fantastic experience: Texas Bariatric Specialists are super friendly and knowledgeable. They take the time to hear your concerns and provide the best options based on your goals. Dr. Patel is awesome and along with all its staff. If your are searching for a place to help you reach those weight goals I completely recommend this place.

Fantastic experience: 2 year update: Dr. Ramdath did a beautiful job! My scars are not even hardly visible. I also kept off my weight!! I lost 100 lbs and no longer have knee pain. I wouldn't have gone to another dr/facility as they took great care of me. I'm just updating my review for those who are seeking a surgeon. Thank you Texas Bariatric Specialists for my wonderful experience. UPDATE: I had my surgery in the month of August and I am approaching my 6weeks post op and I have to say surgery went well. My body is adjusting to my new lifestyle. My incisions are healing up very nicely (thank you Dr. Ramdath). I feel so much better and my energy level is amazing. While I have not had my surgery yet (it’s in august) the process took me three months! The doctor ordered tests and I completed them promptly. I had questions, they answered quickly. Staff seems to be working as a team successfully to ensure things run smoothly.

Fantastic experience: I stated my Bariatric journey late March of 2025, the TBS team has made it super simple for me this is not an easy decision to make and not an easy process, however it is a lot better when you have an amazing team of professionals to guide you and make sure that you feel comfortable and that you understand everything, from the front desk girls to the doctor, the case advocates, the nutritionist and everyone involved in this process makes it so worth it. Surgery date has been scheduled today and I could not be more happy to have chosen this facility and the team that has backed me up in this process. Thank you so much TBS for helping me achieve a healthier version of me.

Fantastic experience: I’m currently a pre op patient with Texas Bariatric Specialists, scheduled for surgery in June, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience so far. From the very beginning, the staff has been incredibly welcoming, supportive, and professional. Every step of the process has been clearly communicated, and I’ve always felt like I’m in good hands.

Negative experience: My wife had a great first experience with the doctor (Ramdath) it went downhill from there. HANNAH is terrible. She is the “office manager” but she only things she manages to be are, rude, disrespectful, unprofessional and outright miserable. She didn’t like that my wife had questions about the process and procedure. She didn’t like that my wife had someone on the phone to support her. She locked her account and then said she wouldn’t be able to get treatment at this facility. She then hung up on my wife. Twice. She then hung up on me 4 times after asking to speak to the doctor since that is “the only person above her”. She said she left a note for the doctor to call me after I called back a fifth time. The next day, surprise, no call. I call and she informs me that a doctor(Patel), that wasn’t even my wife’s doctor, agreed with her and she wouldn’t be allowed to go to this facility. She refused to elaborate on anything and said we were harassing them because we were trying to talk to my wife’s doctor. All of this on top of overcharging us. Avoid at all cost if you are a person of color, and especially if you have questions.

Fantastic experience: I started my journey in April and have been scheduled for surgery on September 1. The staff is amazing and kind. They continue to encourage me at my weigh ins and make me feel good about my progress. James Houston is so relatable and full of knowledge and experience. I feel comfortable and safe going through this major change with Texas Bariatric Specialists

Fantastic experience: I have had a great experience with them they are so nice and the doctor is very good and explains everything to you even my wife had the gastric bypassed done by him and the results were awesome we are so blessed to have been able to have these people take care of us

Negative experience: I've had a pretty horrible overall experience. I am having issues with my lap band. I was sent for an upper GI which identified serious issues with the band. I was told I needed an EGD, but i would have to go to San Antonio for it. When I asked why, I was told because if i had it done in Austin, they wouldn't "code it right". Initially, i was told my out of pocket would be $687 with BCBS of TX and a $500 deductible. I told them I would call when ready to schedule. Since then, they have called me 6 times to schedule. The last call, I was told my out of pocket would be $530. I asked why the price changed. The lady didn't know. I asked why I had to go to San Antonio. She told me because EGD's have to be done in San Antonio, but she couldn't tell me why. I contacted another doctor who is in Austin and for an EGD, band removal and sleeve, my out of pocket is $619. Prior to finding another doctor, i called St. David's Bariatric Center and explained what all I had been through and without naming the doctor, the lady said they try not to disparage other doctor's, but would this happen to be Dr. Patel. When I asked the new doctor about signing a release so they could get my medical records from Dr. Patel, he said Dr. Patel's office was too difficult to deal with and they don't even try to get medical records from them anymore. I received an EOB stating I owed $550 for surgery they performed - taking fluid out of my band. The way that it was coded was not covered by insurance, but I have had several adjustments and never owed $550 in the past. I would chalk it up to a mistake, but with all of the other shady things I have experienced, I would have to say that it was very intentional. Do your research. One last thing.... i had a 12:00 appointment. There were 11 people in the lobby (not sure how you are supposed to social distance with 11 people in a lobby) and I was told that I was the 8th person to be seen. Not sure why you would schedule that many people for the same time frame, but they did. Do your research. I beg you.

Negative experience: 1 year after this surgery I was admitted to the hospital, the pain was like no other. I was begging for help for someone to help me. I was admitted to the hospital where I had emergency surgery,I was cut right down the middle. Doctors told me later that they had almost lost me. From my understanding there was a place that was supposedly was to be sewn but was not which made my intestines go inside and rot. When they tried to get my intestines from this place they would fall apart. My life will never be the same. Good luck!

At first I was really nervous, but throughout the process everyone has helped ease my mind on my decision to my new life. You always have different options to fit every patient needs. Positive experience: Where do I begin? I prepared for the gastric bypass and met all the necessary requirements. This is a 7 month journey. A week before my surgery, I was told that my surgery was not approved by my insurance. I was devastated. The ball was dropped. Now, I am dealing with the Lapband (Told many times this was my best option and other procedures were not discussed) which has went from $60 to $175. On the hand, Dr Reddy is a great listener with compassion. I’m here today in the office for help. Praying for a miracle

Negative experience: in attempting to call and speak with this office about self financing options for bypass surgery I encountered a rather rude person who insisted that I could not get any further information without attending a sales seminar. I explained that I had already attended several of these kinds of seminars and knew which procedure I needed and that insurance is not an option... and still, she rudely insisted that I could have no further information without attending a seminar. Feels like pushy "hard sell" sales tactics to me, belonging more to a time share or pyramid scheme than to dealing with potential patients in a doctor's office. I'll take my 20,000$ elsewhere.
