Our comment from Nutrifinder.net about The UltraWellness Center:

The UltraWellness Center is a leading health clinic that focuses on functional medicine, aiming to address the root causes of health concerns rather than merely treating symptoms. Patients have praised the expertise and commitment of the staff, particularly Dr. George Papanicolaou and his health coach Michelle Papanicolaou, for their personalized care and effective treatment plans.

Many visitors have reported significant improvements in their health after following the center's comprehensive programs, which incorporate extensive testing, nutritional guidance, and ongoing support. For instance, patients mentioned weight loss, increased energy, and resolution of long-standing health issues as notable outcomes from their time at the center.

However, some patients have expressed concerns regarding costs, mentioning that the initial fees can be quite high, with some receiving bills that accumulated to thousands of dollars without seeing the expected results. There are mentions of unpreparedness among some staff members during follow-up appointments, leading to dissatisfaction for a few clients.

Despite the mixed reviews, The UltraWellness Center has proven to be a valuable resource for many who are seeking in-depth, compassionate care that often extends far beyond conventional medical approaches. Their dedication to understanding each patient’s unique health journey stands out and is appreciated by those who have experienced the positive impact of their holistic strategies.

If you're considering turning to The UltraWellness Center for your health needs, many recommend thorough research and clear communication of expectations to maximize the benefits of your experience.

Fantastic experience: Shortly after my retirement I came to the UltraWellness center for assistance on my aspiration to be healthy.  I was so excited to meet Dr George who outlined a plan for me that was beautifully aligned with my goals to be physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy.  After extensive testing and discussions I was able to take all aspects of my life to a new level of health by improving my nutrition, physical strength conditioning, sleep, relationships in my life, drew closer to God, lowered my stress levels and increased my gratitude for the gift of life we all have been given. Like all aspiration to be better, it's always about the journey & the process. I was so fortunate to begin working with my health coach Michelle Papanicolaou.  She was able to help me overcome some of my more challenging difficulties like my divorce from sugar, regular exercise, and finally the dreaded eating late at night. Her ability to see what the primary root causes were helped me to understand how the emotions and stresses I was experiencing were affecting my nutritional choices. She was there with the right balance of empathy/compassion as I failed earlier on combined with encouragement/push to have me jump out of the airplane and just do it. I will always be grateful for the difference that Dr George and Michelle have made in enabling me to achieve my aspiration to be healthy and I look forward to benefiting from their guidance and inspiration as I continue on my journey to get healthier each and everyday.

Fantastic experience: Dear Dr. Mark Hyman, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the profound impact you’ve had on my life. You have not only helped me heal from multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease but also inspired me to transform my life completely. You were first one of my teachers, where I learned so much about functional medicine and the power of addressing root causes. Later, as my doctor, you guided me through life-changing steps that enabled me to take control of my health. Today, I am free from medication and living without MS symptoms. In the midst of my darkest days, when I felt hopeless, your approach and care provided the light I so desperately needed. What I’ve learned from you has shaped my mission in life: to give others the same hope and guidance you gave me. You’ve inspired me to help others reclaim their health, and I’m paying it forward every day. I’m thrilled to share that I am nearly finished writing my book, and your influence and guidance are a key part of my story. Thank you for helping me uncover the root causes of my autoimmune diseases and teaching me how to cleanse and nourish my body. Thanks to your approach, my MS and Crohn’s have been in remission for years, entirely medication-free. As you often say, conventional medicine focuses on the “pill for the ill,” but you go far beyond that. By addressing the root cause, you empower patients to truly heal. Your work has changed my life, and for that, I am forever grateful. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and countless others. Warm regards, Sharon Klein Dr. Mark Hyman was first my teacher, then my doctor—and he helped change the course of my health and my life. That journey inspired me to write Defying the Diagnosis: How I Overcame Autoimmune Diseases Through Faith, Food, and Holistic Healing, where I share my personal healing process and the tools that helped me reclaim my health. Fantastic experience: Dear Carly Leusner and the team at UWC, As an ultra-healthy eater and professional athlete, I came to you to improve my diet fitness even more. Since joining UWC my inflammation has gone down, recovery from workouts has quickened, and I’m aging even slower at 0.6. Cary has done more than give me great nutritional advice, she’s integrated my genomics into my diet. Sincerely, Lucas Brunelle

Fantastic experience: Absolutely love this company! I was led to it through my accidental finding of Dr. Hyman's book The Ultrawellness Diet at the Lenox Bookstore about 20 years ago. I had no idea about how to eat at that time, and since reading that and becoming a patient here, I've been in more control of my health. Recently went back on Wednesday 10/8/25 for a full workup and am so glad I did. Every staff member was respectful and professional, extremely well-prepared on my case, and worked quickly. Thank you UWC and Dr. Hyman!!

Fantastic experience: Earlier this year I was diagnosed with an auto immune disease which resulted in interstitial lung disease ( ILD ). The doctors advised me to go on immuno suppressants which would in the long run compromise my overall immunity. Our daughter was strongly against this approach and suggested that my wife and I visit the Ultra Wellness Center to look at more holistic alternatives. At UWC we met with Dr. George Papanicolaou, who immediately suggested to change a certain statin that I was taking, which was the cause of the auto immune disease. The result -- the ILD has not progressed any further and all the other symptoms associated with it have completely gone! Further, after doing multiple tests he puts us both on supplements to tackle various issues that showed up in the test results. In a short span of 5 months, we can already feel the positive changes. He also recommended that we see the health coach Michelle. While initially both my wife and I were apprehensive about a health coach, but jointly working with Michelle has been a pleasure. Her friendly demeanor and insightful suggestions helped us take action on issues which we had been procrastinating for quite some time, e.g. taking on a personal trainer at the gym. This one action in itself has checked so many our boxes!! Our interaction with Dr. George, Michelle and nutritionist Lisa have brought in many positive changes in our daily routine towards a healthier lifestyle.

Your story is truly inspiring, and we’re grateful to be part of your wellness journey!

Fantastic experience: I was going through a very stressful time ( family business slowdown and caring for a father with dementia) and really struggling to maintain my positive outlook, deal with simple day to day stressors, and honestly just being joyful. I have been a patient of the Ultra Wellness Center, working with Dr George, for a few years with a goal of living a long healthy life. When for the first time, I didn't want to be at the appointment, I knew I was in trouble. I was just " so down". He recommended I seek out a therapist or health coach. I have learned so much and received such great guidance at the UltraWellness Center, that I decided to stay put and connect with Michelle Papanicolaou, a health coach at the center. She was super easy to talk with, asked lots of questions to determine who I was, where I have been ( emotional history), what was going on, and what I had tried so far to help myself. She made me think and reflect. She provided me with articles and small assessments that provided a lot of new insight into who I am and how I deal with things. Together, she guided and motivated me to have a challenging conversation with my business partner to discover how we see the status of our company and our goals as indivuals moving forward . It was like a weight being lifted. She also helped me get back into using the daily tools ( meditation, heart math, breathing exercises, etc) from my tool box. The goal is to make them a habit so then when things do get rough, I continue to default to them and hopefully have established a strong foundation of resilience. I really enjoyed my time with Michelle ( zoom ) and have left the door open to return to her as needed. I would highly recommend meeting with her whether its navigating large obstacles in your life or just resetting for a happier you.

Fantastic experience: Michelle Papanicolaou is a rock star in the health coach arena. I had been suffering with unpleasant OCDs for some time. Two years and several therapists later, Michelle came to my rescue and helped me finally conquer the obsessive rituals. Her kind understanding and verbal prowess made all the difference. I would highly recommend Michelle.

Fantastic experience: UltraWellness Center saved my life. Dr George Papanicolaou DO, IFMCP and Michelle Papanicolaou NBC-HWC, MSW, MAR are the reason. I had many issues when I first came to UWC. I was overweight, severe stomach and intestinal issues, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It was a journey. I would not have made it without them. They make a great team. I lost over 70 pounds. I no longer take medications for high blood pressure or high cholesterol. My stomach issues are also gone. I feel better than I have in 30 years. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Invest in your health. It was worth every penny.

Fantastic experience: I am only a short way into my journey but MORE than pleased and excited about working with George Papanicolaou DO, IFMCP and Michelle Papanicolaou NBC-HWC, MSW, MAR. I had been seeing another functional medicine Dr before this and just wasn't getting what I needed. A family member was recommending Ultra Wellness Center for somebody else and I was immediately interested. Dying for hope and answers. Being at my wits end and it was wearing me down. I have struggled with PCOS and being overweight for 20 years. It is amazing how much research you can do and still not have the full picture. Dr George made a promise that I would understand my insulin resistance which is a very large part of my problems, and he has held true to this. I finally get it! This was very important to me. My first visit with him was quite emotional to be honest as somebody who has struggled with their health and weight for as long as I can remember. I was always trying to fix symptoms and always consumed by the thought of my weight and food and why I keep failing. It's been hard but he was extremely encouraging after all my testing to try and get me to understand that it is not all my fault. Letting go of that is a hard thing to do. He set me up with supplements, and nutrition guidance with a nutritionist. He also recommended I do some health coaching. This is with Michelle. I was very hesitant at first. I've spent many years working on and understanding myself and life. Being hesitant to do the coaching sessions made me feel that was exactly why I needed them. Michelle is here to lead and encourage you thru the journey. To get me to let go of the self blame, to focus on goals, to encourage, to say yes life is giving you friction and this will never end, so how are you going to work thru it? Things I feel I may be good at helping others with but holding myself to a different standard. Long story short I lost 20 lbs pretty quickly and have kept it off. With supplements, infusions, diet understanding, I feel like a new person. I keep reminding myself as Michelle and Annette (the nutritionist I am working with here who is also wonderful at explaining and helping me understand things!!!) IT IS A MARATHON AND NOT A SPRINT! Although I do look forward to my first weight lost goal, 2/5ths of the way there! I'm trying to accept this journey to an optimal body composition may take a few years. I look forward to my next follow up with Dr George. And my regular coaching with Michelle, who truly has your back, and has gone the extra mile as I had some new unforeseen struggles, and helps keep me on track. I have never had luck with Drs, I always felt I had to figure everything out myself. It feels good to have such a big team of people behind you. I have never in my life seen an entire office so thoroughly know and understand me and my health history. They really go above and beyond. I highly recommend this place and tell everyone about it!

Fantastic experience: George J. Papanicolaou DO, IFMCP I came to Dr. George looking for real solutions to attention and focus, and what I received was a full-spectrum reset. From our very first appointment he gave me the clearest sense of hope I’ve felt in years: someone finally understood the stress, genetic quirks, and overwhelm behind my “always-on” life. He built an orchestra of support around me: functional testing, a sharp dietician, targeted supplements, and Michelle’s coaching (see below) to turn insights into habits. The results are tangible: migraines are rarer, sleep is deeper, mood is climbing, and the data we track actually tells a story I can act on. Dr. George never buried me in a laundry list of “shoulds.” Instead, he prioritized progress over perfection, tailoring a plan that fits someone who is leading two growing companies and, you know, trying to having a life :). I feel seen, supported, and measurably better. Hands-down one of the best investments I’ve made in myself, and I feel positive about my future knowing I have Dr. George's support behind me. Michelle Papanicolaou NBC-HWC, MSW, MAR I reached out to Michelle for ADHD coaching after launching my second company and realizing I was stuck in an unsustainable loop of sprint, crash, repeat. She helped me decode how my brain works: where it fires on all cylinders and where it derails me. Together we locked my core strengths into place, built breathwork resets and quick reflection checkpoints into my calendar, and backed it all with accountability I could actually stick to. Fast-forward a few months: I’m back in the gym, my energy is steadier, emotional resets come faster, and I catch mental rabbit holes before they hijack my day. I slide into the CEO chair each day feeling more grounded and less reactive. Michelle helped me turned my burnout cycle into habits that power the life (and the companies) I’m building, with momentum I’ll keep compounding between and after our sessions.

Negative experience: My family, desperate, paid the high cost (both in terms of the fees and the travel to maintain the relationship) in hopes that a very difficult to diagnose and improve health situation could actually be improved. We were assured that UWC was the place to be for such complex cases, for the expertise and individual attention and research we would receive toward solutions, and that this is why the cost was so high. The cost would be more than worth it, to regain health. And we never would be writing this if a valiant effort had been made, to no avail. Unfortunately, while not intended at every level of the organization - ultimately the doctor we were assigned to, despite his expressed confidence to get to the bottom of things in our first appointment which convinced us to spend the additional funds for deeper testing, when rounds two and three came around of follow-up appointments - the doctor seemed utterly and completely unprepared. As though the doctor had forgotten our family member’s medical situation (which we spent hours and many dollars to provide in great detail - both written and in person - explaining and sharing with the doctor) and the doctor not taken the time to even refresh their memory via notes as to what my family member’s situation was. It could not have been more clear that the doctor was winging the follow-up appointment and was unprepared. To make matters worse, the doctor did not seem bothered by their own clear and obvious lack of preparedness - even when having to be corrected as to specific details of my family member’s condition, certain test results, what we had tried/not tried, etc. and given the layers that the organization built in to its process before you could actually reach the doctor for questions in between the expensive follow-ups you wouldn’t think the doctors would be distracted or overworked to where they couldn’t come prepared to the rare and expensive follow-ups that they actually attend. The in between questions were answered by staff who are very kind but have to follow the rules which again, act as a barrier along with the high fee barriers to have access to the doctor in between. If the doctors aren’t going to be focused on their patient in between, they certainly had better come prepared and proactively aware to the expensive follow-ups which were the only way to access them. And yet, again, the doctor quite literally acted as though it was our first appointment and that this was okay, with no apology or recognition. We considered for a time not saying anything but then we began to see reviews that emphasized the same problem. It’s not acceptable. It’s neither caring nor helpful, likely at the precise time when care and help is needed the most - as well as time and money going to worthy practitioners. So we decided to write this after further reflection that we may not have been a one off experience for UWC. We were more than disappointed and UWC should be ashamed given the level of importance and impact they have on patients lives - to have taken their commitment to care so lightly and negligently. And then it becomes almost offensive when considering the unapologetic attitude of the doctor as well. Please think twice before joining or at least attempt to set expectations with the UWC before making the investment - is our advice. Hopefully UWC improves. We believe there is more to healing than what our insurance incentivized pill pushing sick care system pushes, and UWC knows how to talk the talk to attract desperate patients who may be in their last attempt to heal. But unfortunately, UWC either doesn’t know how to walk the walk, or if they do, perhaps worse - the doctor truly didn’t care enough to even come prepared to follow-ups so we ran out of trust and lost time and money in the process.

Fantastic experience: We spent 10 years trying to figure out what was going on with our pre-teen daughter, and had tried 20+ doctors with no success. We sacrificed a lot to fly her across the country for another opinion. Five minutes into her appointment, after reading her extensive history and doing a quick physical exam, Dr. George correctly diagnosed her! He confirmed his suspicions through extensive testing and found so many things other doctors had missed. What a relief to have a clear direction after 10 years!!! When we returned back home and shared this information with her local doctors, suddenly the doors opened for referrals that we were never able to receive previously. They started to take her pain and fatigue seriously. Her quality of life has improved tremendously over the last 18 months, in large part due to an accurate diagnosis, a long-term plan, and a FABULOUS nutritionist at UWC (Lisa D). Just like anything in functional medicine world, the progress is slow and steady, and requires dedication and persistence. The initial testing is lengthy and expensive, but was absolutely worth it for us. We are SO grateful to Dr. George, Lisa, and the rest of the wonderful staff at UWC. (Also, a shout out to the gals in the lab! Our daughter is terrified of needles and was so stressed about the testing. She's never had a better experience. Good humans!)

Fantastic experience: In 2013 I was diagnosed with diabetes out of nowhere. I believe Maggie Ward saved my life. I was physically active , ate very little protein, next to no fat and ate lots of pasta and potatoes since they had no fat or protein. My father died at 46 of a heart attack so I was very careful or so I thought. Being diagnosed I was told to eat enough carbs so I wouldn’t bottom out on the pills I was given.made no sense to me.Mark Hyman happened to be on the Dr. Oz show. The blood Sugar Solution book had just come out come out and Dr. Hyman talked about what to do. I went out and got the book that night. I threw away my cereal and started having morning shakes. then I called the Ulrawellness Center asking how they could help in a way that was affordable. I was directed to Maggie Ward and through her nutritional advice I believe she saved my life. I have seen Dr. Boham who has given me additional valuable advice. I truly believe when functional medicine is recognized as worth being backed by insurance companies and medical schools, our nation will stop being chronically ill. I believe functional medicine has saved my life. I could go on and on with my story. The Ultrawellness Center has made my quality of life much better and I believe saved my life. I am 73 and started my journey at age 62. A big thank you for all you have done and continue to do. Someday I would like to personally thank Dr. Hyman.

Fantastic experience: The UltraWellness Center and, specifically, Dr. Elizabeth Boham changed my life. I am so incredibly grateful to them, and cannot recommend them highly enough. Out of desperation, and after years of suffering from mysterious cognitive and physical symptoms, and years of seeing multiple doctors and specialists who could not figure out the cause of my issues and declining health, I decided to "take a chance" and make an appointment at the UltraWellness Center. I say "take a chance" because that's what it felt like I was doing at the time. I'd had no luck with any of the previous doctors I'd seen and there were no guarantees that this experience would be any different but I'd been following and admiring the work of Dr. Mark Hyman (the Center's founder) for years, and he seemed to have an understanding of health and illness that far surpassed that of his conventional counterparts. So I went to the Center. It turned out to be the absolute best decision I've ever made. I saw Dr. Boham and, after only one appointment (and a number of tests), she was able to determine the source of my issues. I'm happy to report that it's now 6 months (and 2 follow-up appointments) later and I am completely back to my normal self. Cognitive symptoms are completely gone. Physical symptoms are non-existent. My only regret when it comes to the UltraWellness Center is that I didn't go sooner. If you're on the fence about making an appointment, please don't be. The doctors and practitioners at the UltraWellness Center have an understanding of health and illness that is lightyears ahead of most conventional medical practitioners. Aside from their brilliance and thoroughness, they also happen to be really lovely people. I will forever be grateful for them all.

Negative experience: Initial visit will cost you $2,500. Labs $3-7k.

Lori Fitzgerald 1 year ago

Negative experience: I was concerned that this may be a money pit after reading reviews. I'm afraid that's the case. I loved the first meeting with the doctor but after $12,000 a few follow up calls with no real direction this was a complete waste of time and money. He calls my son on occasion, which I was told was now $80 since the first ones were over $800 and I just got wacked another 300K!!! Fees are shifty and I now have to jump through hoops to get my card banned from their access. If I was getting answers, I'd be happy to pay. I've seen nothing other than our lab results (nothing there) and he is 'thinking' of why my son is sick. I can not recommend this place- which is disappointing after what I hoped was a good first impression that they were concerned and ready to be proactive. It was just another failure.

Mary Hart 1 year ago

Negative experience: I am very disappointed in the attitude of this practice. Straight off the bat, the initial cost is $2,500, with projected auxiliary costs ranging between $3,00-$7,000. Their approach to healthcare by no means is guaranteed to cure what ails people and the fact that they charge such exorbitant fees, up front, strikes me as elitist, exclusionary and ultimately dishonest. The UltraWellness Center's practice of healthcare is available only to those who have access to at least $10,000 of non reimbursable funds. And this does not take into consideration the ongoing cost of supplements prescribed. I caution everyone who is investigating alternative ways to regain their health to proceed slowly when dealing with The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA.

Fantastic experience: My experience at the Ultra Wellness Center has been exceptional. I decided to optimize the health of my body by making the commitment to getting a complete wellness profile at this center. I was assigned Dr. George Papanicolaou and he is an incredibly intelligent and thorough doctor that really listens to you and knows how to make you feel at ease about everything. He explains all the test results in an easy to understand manner and suggests the best supplements to support my body. I was also assigned an amazing nutritionist - Lisa Dreher. Lisa is incredibly brilliant and detailed and she guides you to the best and most nutritious foods for your body and what you are trying to achieve. The amazing nurse Susan Wallingford is always precise in answering any of my questions and responds very quickly. The entire staff and the lab are incredibly professional and they have impeccable follow through. The Ultra Wellness Center also offers online support when you are a patient that allows me to email any questions I may have. I love this place and I always look forward to going there.

Fantastic experience: My experience with the Ultrawellness Center thus far has been incredibly positive! I have Diabetes (type 2), and had been taking Metformin for 14 years, which caused horrible side effects that my primary care doctor told me I had to live with. In 2018, I stopped taking it and let my diabetes take over. During the pandemic, a lifelong friend sent me a podcast of Dr. Mark Hyman, and told me he had a functional medical practice in our state. I was instantly intrigued, but more importantly felt that there was hope for me! I did as much research as possible and finally reached out to the Ultrawellness Center to start my journey, and I will not look back. I have never had a medical "team" taking care of me and my health...ever. Dr. Geyer is amazing, she is kind and I feel that she genuinely cares! She explains everything so understandably and eloquently. I can give the exact same description for my Nutritionist, Lisa, my personal nutrition plan IS working! Also on "my team" is R.N. Kelly, who during my first post-visit phone call with, gave me so much hope and inspiration! I should mention, that my journey started only 7 weeks ago - my fasting glucose was 209, and now it is 104. It hasn't been 3 months yet, but so far my A1c went from 9.6 down to 7.3!! Energy is up, sleep is deep and uninterrupted, overall I am functioning far better now than I had been for years. So grateful!!

Negative experience: Do not waste your money. If you don’t listen then at least make sure you research everything told to you. I want to put this horrible experience behind me and the only reason I’m writing a review is so this doesn’t happen to anyone else. I was optimistic because I was interested in functional medicine nutrition and wanted to get a full workup and be “healthier”. The tests and diagnosis they do are unfounded. If you work with Dr and nutritionist- they don’t talk to each other. I have ADD and was given high doses of l-glutamine because of a BS diagnosis of leaky gut and nutritionist telling me to drink bone broth (more l glutamine) I had numerous drs/nutritionists look at my labs later and said I did not have leaky gut numbers and that the dose given was for someone who is malnourished. Also you don’t give an excitatory amino acid to someone with an excitatory brain- guess what - it turned to glutamate. It caused me to have panic attacks and anxiety and ptsd. Ended up at the Amen clinic and spect scan showed panic center of brain on fire. I am normally not an anxious person. I never had any of these issues until I took this supplement. Dr. Lepine said how he gives this dose all the time and maybe it triggered bipolar- which is absolutely untrue especially since I’ve had to get extensive evaluations because of this and the panic attacks it caused. He was stretching and didn’t want to truly admit that he screwed up by giving me this. Instead of dealing with the situation I’d talk to his nurse- who was very nice but no one had answers and no one would admit anything. I was doing good mentally until I took this supplement. It caused about 10 months of my life feeling horrible and living in fear and spending a ton of money to try and feel better. I waited until I was fully healed to post this. I am back to normal and take no supplements or medications. I was fine until I took the l-glutamine supplement and then when I had issues after only a few weeks of taking, he told me to find local help. Trust me- you do not want excess glutamate . L-glutamine is super dangerous for most people at the doses I was given. The other functional med drs I talked to did not understand why I was given this high dose. I came in there fairly healthy. They will find something and they will take your money. A Drs oath is do no harm. Things need to be explained and a spelled out plan to start slow. I messaged to make sure I was taking correctly but it didn’t matter. It’s impossible to talk to the Dr and ask questions after your visit. Maybe if you are local they’d help but definitely not worth the trip if you are out of town. Do not waste your money if you are just looking to be healthier- it can cost you more problems.

Fantastic experience: I think the medical care here is on a whole other level. No, it's not cheap, but they saved my life. No quick fixes here, no bandaids, no medicating just to get rid of the symptoms and not the problem. If you, like me, went from one conventional doctor's office to another looking for a solution, you might want to consider the deep dive that is offered at this office. Dr. Papanicolaou was the doctor that helped me and I'm so grateful. The only problem is they make you realize how broken a lot of other medical care really is!

Fantastic experience: I've been fortunate to work with UltraWellness! I wanted to complete a full health check to identify areas where I need to improve my health. Working with Dr. Elizabeth Boham and Lisa Dreher has been a great experience. They are genuine and always take the time to explain test results and next steps. I feel confident learning from their knowledge and the steps I now need to consistently take. I highly recommend working with UltraWellness to get on the right track, to meet your health goals and to feel great!

Fantastic experience: After some medical complications, I spent several months trying to find my way back to wellness. During that time, I came across Dr. Hyman’s books and podcast, learning a lot from him. When his practice, The UltraWellness Center, opened their door for virtual appointments (due to the pandemic), I signed myself up. It is one of the greatest gifts I’ve given myself. I've learned so much and received the best care from an incredible team of people. Thanks to each of them I am doing far better than I could have imagined when I began this journey. I'm grateful for their expertise, support, education, and the ways they've empowered me.

Fantastic experience: When Allopathic saved my child's life they cared nothing about her quality of life. A stack of pills, shots and some pamphlets and we were off. My 10-year-old daughter even needed help walking to her room. I searched out the Ultra Wellness Center and waited patiently for our appointment. Through testing, researching, and heavy guidance with nutrition (common food) and some light supplements she has regained use of her own body. Dermatomyosits came from nowhere for her. We stopped its progress, healed her gut and she is thriving as a 13-year-old 7th grader. She has been able to finally be off steroids, we are now tapering methotrexate and hopefully in 1 more year the monthly infusions. Without this tailored healthcare I feel Mali would not be with us today. We are forever grateful for this supported guidance and care we have received and giving her a life worth living.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Dr. Boham’s for about six months and have had such a great experience. I am a big believer in root cause medicine and that is exactly what they do, find the root cause of your issues and help treat them with supplements and lifestyle changes and more. I have seen people complaining about the cost and yes the functional medicine approach is not inexpensive. However I believe it is totally worth it because I don’t want to be taking prescription pills for the rest of my life, I prefer to do testing and find the root cause and treat it. Their office is very organized and I always get a prompt response. So far I am very pleased and grateful to have found them. Also Dr. Boham is an excellent listener and I really feel that when we do meet she is fully or present, listening, and cares.

Negative experience: With all of these negative reviews, and the price points of each product that is suggested as part of the treatment, this is definitely a great way to throw your money away. they sure know how to falsely market themselves and get rich from desperate people looking for the most basic human necessity, HEALTH.

Katie Hunt-Morr 4 years ago

Negative experience: Huge let down, medically negligent, expensive, and unnecessarily time consuming. The whole enterprise felt set up to sell products, more than help people heal. The doctor I saw was checked out - forgot most of the symptoms I was concerned about between appointments, didn't read the extensive in-take forms I filled out, and gave me a generic treatment. The diet they recommended made my symptoms worse and ended up triggering an issue that required serious medical intervention. Their test are nothing special and most are either unproven or can be covered by insurance if you go through your GP. Their admin system is convoluted- I had half a dozen people contacting me about appointments and purchasing supplements, but the only way to connect with a doctor is to book a $500 follow-up appointment even for a minor question (after spending $5,000 for the initial visit and tests). Not worth the travel to MA, definitely not worth the $6,000 I eventually spent with them, and the time wasted trying to navigate their system. There are alternatives more focused on healing patients and covered by insurance.

Hi Katie, we’re sorry you had a bad experience. Some of these interactions with our staff happened during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic when we were transitioning to remote services. We do want our patients to feel that their expectations are being met. Please call our office if you would like to speak with our Practice Manager. She would be very interested in connecting with you.

Negative experience: I signed up as a new patient and booked a phone call from Anne at the first available which was 4 months away. I had some questions that were not answered on the website. I called and she called me back 4 days later and left a message stating who she was. I called right back and left another message and we are now on day 6--no call back. With such an expensive program not to get a call back or make a time to talk is a big red flag. I'm out.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I have been following Dr. Mark Hyman’s work for 3 years after hearing him speak at a Heart Summit in Arkansas. Since that time, we’ve read not only his books, but also listen to The Doctor’s Farmacy (yes, with an “f”), which is a fantastic video podcast with international healthcare and business leaders covering a wide variety of topics. In February, we decided to become patients of the UltraWellness Center as we want to optimize our health as we move into retirement. We are receiving the ultimate care from our “team” which includes a patient navigator, a nutritionist, a nurse, and our doctor. They are extremely caring, organized, and passionate about helping people re-claim their health. It is the best investment we could ever make. Our health is the most important piece of our human capital, and we’ve worked too hard all our lives to become chronically ill in retirement. Thank you for helping us!

Fantastic experience: I saw Dr. Elizabeth Boham M.D. & Margaret Ward on Jan 16, 2020. After going to over 10 different holistic doctors here in Canada I can say that I have never seen the expertise & concern from the heart as these people have! I have completed all my tests today & I’m waiting to have my first follow-up phone conversation with Dr. Boham on March 12, 2020. I will give another review once I speak with her & have the experience of her professional advice. I have already spoken to Nutritionist Margaret Ward & I could not believe all that she knew about most of my blood work & how well she explained things in layman’s terms! I know many are saying that they are expensive but I can add that I have spent well over this amount with all the doctors, tests & supplements or natural drugs that I have taken so far here in Canada. They are cheeper than paying for funeral arrangements if you opt to go the traditional medicine route that shows little or no concern for their patients well being. I have had 16 surgeries through traditional medicine & all of them have left me the same or mostly worse than what I was originally. I take my hat off to the Ultrawellness Center & Functional Medicine for all their dedicated work in doing their best to help nurture people back to good health by getting down to the root cause rather than just giving out prescription drugs that mask some of the symptoms but do nothing to cure the illness. The drugs in the end are worst than the disease because of their side effects. I can say this from experience after being on prednisone for over 23 years & still having to take steroids for the rest of my life because of traditional doctor error...

Negative experience: Let´s face it: No one takes the time and effort to build up a marketing platform on Youtube and other Social Media because they are charitable and truly want to help people. The UltraWellness Center is no different. Sadly, all of their lovely free advise posted online always end up trying to sell you one of their “lovely” products. Fantastic experience: My daughter had diarrhea since birth and at 3 years old I started the journey to find out why. She also had GERD as an infant and was treated with medication. At the three year wellness check the Pedi told me to just wait but being a Dietitian myself I knew that it was not toddler diarrhea. I worked in an MD office and ordered some stool testing and found out she had dysbiosis. I took her to a ND to help with a protocol only to not fully recover from it after 1.5 years. I also spoke to 2 local functional medicine Docs as well. Frustrated I needed answers and was sick of wasting time and money, I figured if The UltraWellness center can not help her I do not know anyone that can. I saw Dr Papanicolaou who diagnosed her with SIBO and started treating it very quickly. Within 2 months the SIBO was gone and her stools were normal. I am so thankful to catch it when she was young before it led to other symptoms and could not have done it without Dr George Papanicolaou and Lisa Dreher, his Dietitian. This has inspired me to pursue my career as a Dietitian in Functional Medicine. Thank you, Thank you!!

Fantastic experience: At the ultra wellness centre you will be seen through the lens of Functional medicine in which is different to the conventional approach. Functional medicine is one of the most powerful levers that can be pulled to get you and or your family back to health with little or no side effects. I first came to the ultra wellness centre with a health concerns with one of my children. I was met by the nutritionist Lisa Dreher who specialises with young children. Her functional medicine approach in identifying the route cause, quickly brought vitality back to my child. Over a year lisa has been in very close contact with us showing our family the upmost professionalism and support that we needed. Her dept of knowledge goes way beyond conventional dietary planning that proved very powerful. We have been Inspired over the last year by the work and thoughtful care and support the ultra wellness center has shown us. We recommend anyone struggling with there health to maybe get in touch. You will met by a great team loyal to a successful outcome. The team truly care about what matters the most. Your health.

Fantastic experience: This place deserves 10 stars! The UltraWellness Center is unlike any health clinic I have ever heard of and you don't even have to live in Massachusetts to utilize their services. Under the guidance of medical professionals like Dr. Mark Hyman, the Ultrawellness Center provides nutrition based health management guidance that saves lives. Phone consultations make taking advantage of the wealth of knowledge at the center easy and convenient. Whether looking for dietary guidance while recovering from surgery, battling cancer or living with a chronic illness, the UltraWellness Center is a must for those seeking long-term health through diet. After losing several parts of my digestive tract, one of the nutritionists at the center, Lisa Dreher, was the first person in the health field to finally say "I've seen this before, I know what to do, we can help you, you are going to be ok." After months of struggling to figure out how to live with my new digestive situation, Lisa provided me with support, guidance, and applicable recommendations. Within hours after our initial phone consultation, I received a complete dietary guide that included meal plans, nutrient goals/limits, recipes, suggestions for vitamins and supplements and several links to online resources that provided even more help. Everything was tailored specifically to me, my needs, my goals and my hopes. I do not know where I would be if I did not find the UltraWellness Center. I can't say enough to encourage people to look into this option. This center is saving my life and if you are struggling and don't know where to turn, take a chance and just call them.

Negative experience: STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE: I went for 1 year with my mother, we spent $$$$ (not covered by insurance) only to have Dr. Papanicolaou 1) Never be prepared for our visits aka never reviewing charts 2) Constantly forgetting my medical condition. Keep in mind we would speak on the phone every 1.5 months and every time we did he acted as if he were meeting me for the first time 3) Berating me during a phone conversation, which left me feeling very uneasy 4) Always forgetting and being dismissive of the fact that I am STRICT VEGAN and prescribing behind my back animal based products of the worst kind e.g pig glands, fetal bovine serum, beeswax, gelatin until I discovered this 5) Admitting that he couldn't help me after spending $$$$. 6) The nutritionist, Dr. Boite, told me to eat 95 grams of protein per day! I am 115 lbs, 5'5". Fortunately I know enough about nutrition to know she was out of her mind. She didn't even know tempeh was soy. 7) My mother's experience with Dr. LePine was terrible as well. He prescribed an unjustifiable amount of supplements that of course they want you to purchase on THEIR WEBSITE. When she told him that the glutamine was making her so sick she couldn't even get out of bed (for 2 weeks) his answer through the terrible nurse was: "Keep on trying until it kicks in". My mother is 76 yo never a real health issue: I had never seen her non functional before. That was the first and last time he saw her. 7) The administrative setup is completely irrational and frustrating. Please, please don't make our mistake. Don't give into the hype: avoid at all costs. As somebody pointed out these are family physicians who are completely unprepared as doctors let alone as functional doctors. They don't care about curing/helping.They just want your money. One star isn't low enough.

Fantastic experience: With UWC you are not "going it alone". They have an incredibly warm, professional and knowledgeable staff. We are so happy to have someone by our child's side who treats her with respect. I thought I knew a lot about nutrition and I was not sure what else they could offer….but they taught us so much in one hour! I highly recommend them. (A note about fees: we chose to just have a nutritional consult and bring our own blood work - not an option for everyone but if you have cost concerns as we did, its worth asking about this - they were very open to it).

Gwenn LeMoine 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: I have been told by my doctors numerous times that I needed to go to a nutritionist but didn't want to go and just talk to some skinny person about my issues. I saw dr. Hyman speak at kripalu and followed his blood sugar solution and 10 Day Detox program with very good results but needed more personal one-on-one help. I decided to drive a couple hours to the Ultra Wellness Center have my consultation in person. I got my blood work done and interpreted and when your used to using providers thru your health insurance it can feel initially expensive but I felt I was paying for information that went deeper than just solving a symptom. Now about every 6 weeks I do a 25 minute consult over the phone to help me stay on track (they are open to emails and other communications in between for even more questions or guidance). This works perfectly for me because I need to retrain my brain from all the misinformation I've had for the last 55 years. If you can get past the initial cost to assess your blood in your body and your habits then the cist becomes more reasonable. I think the bad reviews in here got stuck in the beginning and didn't get past integrating it into their lives. My nutritionist is Maggie and she's very real and informative grateful for the Ultra Wellness Center team!

Donna Aubinoe 7 years ago

Negative experience: I had such high expectations for the Ultra Wellness Center and was ,ultimately, left so disappointed. After spending over $8,000 on consultations and tests, following an extremely restricted diet, and taking an extensive array of expensive recommended supplements...I am in exactly the same health condition as when I started the protocol nine months ago. Dr. LePine never clearly explained why particular tests were necessary or what the eventual results really meant. I was left in a state of constant confusion, but was hesitant to contact the Ultrawellness Center for clarification since the doctors & nutritionists will not address your concerns by email and you are billed every time you schedule a phone conversation with anyone. The entire set up here does not feel supportive to patients at all. No real doctor-client relationship is ever established and I felt totally on my own trying to figure everything out. I would advise skipping The UltraWellness Center and instead purchasing excellent books such as : “The Blood Sugar Solution” by Dr. Mark Hyman, “The Paleo Approach to Reversing Autoimmune Disease and Healing Your Body” by Dr. Sarah Ballantine, or “The Autoimmune Solution” by Dr. Amy Myers. These step-by-step manuals for improving your health will provide you will much clearer, detailed information at a fraction of the cost.

Negative experience: My wife Sejal has written this to me so I posted it to google. I feel like she should be heard. Hello. I just got off the phone with the physician. George papanicolaou is unprofessional. We had an appointment yesterday at 2:30- which he had missed. I called the office to see what happened they told me he was running late and finishing up with a patient and I should wait by the phone. He had not called back that day, I left a voicemail and waited the next day for someone to call back, they never did I called again Day 2 to see what happened and when the George The secretary said that he's available so she handed him the phone I told him that I had a 2:30 appointment yesterday and that I waited but he must've been busy. "If your going to start this conversation by chastising me than your not a good fit for this clinic. " was all he said before he hung up. I called to set up a consultation for a pediatrician at the ultra wellness clinic because I heard it was Dr Hymans previous clinic in hopes that they had a pediatric doctor to help my daughter. I wanted to be sure they could help my 1 year old daughter before I drive from New York to Massachusetts for an appointment. they were able to get me a phone appointment with another doctor. They ensured me George papanicolaou knew everything a pediatrician knew even though he was not one. When I had him on the phone We did not get past any conversation on how I could help my child. Really sad to see that they have no respect towards patients. Inconsiderate behavior and no empathy towards others - isn't that unethical?

Negative experience: Please, please do not make my mistake. I was a huge fan of Dr.Hyman's work, and trusted him entirely. I finally became a patient, only to find out that this is a scam on the sick and desperate. In the end I paid them over $15,000. I am more sick then when I started. I was carelessly prescribed supplements that negatively interacted with my current medications and caused serious harm. I also paid thousands for these supplements, that i purchased from them, and ultimately had to be thrown away. I couldn't agree more with a previous review that they are "a loose assortment of pretty average family practice doctors that happen to have embraced what they call functional medicine". It has also been my experience that "They gather a lot of data, but don't really seem to know what to do with it". So many tests, soooo much money, no answers. I found out more from my free ubiome test than from them. Overall, horrible experience that I wish I could take back.

Fantastic experience: I have had nothing but good experiences with the Ultra Wellness Center. Dr. LePine and his staff have been willing to tackle my difficult health issues and I have increasingly improved under their care. Lisa, the nutritionist is a super star....she has changed my life with her approach and the resources she has provided. Is it more expensive than taking a prescription drug - sure! But well worth the money if you have an impossible problem that regular doctors can't even begin to figure out. Unfortunately, functional medicine is not covered under insurance so these practices have to charge more. I have been to several natural doctors in the past and the cost is not abnormal. Just think of the amount of money you spend on several CT scans, tests, etc and get no where with - then you will realize it is well WORTH IT to actually get healthy and to the root of the problem.

Thomas Stevenson 8 years ago

Negative experience: I notice a lot of people complain about the price. This criticism is 100% justified--UWC is a racket, particularly when you consider that they direct you to their own online supplements store when they prescribe supplements (for ethical reasons, a doctor should never profit from prescribing a given supplement OR medication). More troubling, however, is that these doctors are not specially trained medical detectives, as all their publicity materials suggest, but basically a loose assortment of pretty average family practice doctors. They happen to have embraced what they call "functional medicine," which certainly entails a lot of testing, but, as one healthcare professional commented to me after the fact, "They gather a lot of data, but don't really seem to know what to do with it"--that, and a lot of the tests they order are not accepted anywhere else as clinically meaningful. For example, while reviewing their results, a top GI doctor at MGH told me their "zonulin test," which supposedly assesses "leaky gut," actually assesses nothing, because outside of certain clinical trials there IS no test for leaky gut. She should know: she works alongside Alessio Fasano, who discovered zonulin. To conclude, yes, visiting UWC cost me an unconscionable amount of money, but, much worse, it added to my overall fear and distress by labeling and pathologizing symptoms with no real basis. Talking about a "compromised gut" is profoundly damaging at a psychological level, particularly when no evidence for the "diagnosis" can be found (I talk about psychology because I eventually got relief from some of these symptoms taking psychoactive drugs prescribed by a psychiatrist). Finally, to UWC's great shame, Dr. Boham actually gave me objectively incorrect medical advice, diagnosing hemochromatosis and telling me to give blood every month to control my iron levels. My aunt happens to be a hematologist, so I took the liberty of sharing my blood work with her. Her conclusion: your iron values are fine, there is zero evidence of hemochromatosis, and it is irresponsible for anyone to suggest you give blood. Yikes. A lot of money to get some vague conjecture and an erroneous diagnosis.

Fantastic experience: I discovered the concept of Functional Medicine and The UltraWellness Center during my quest for answers after being debilitated for almost a year with no clear diagnosis. It was the best decision and a game changer for me that set me on a path to discovery, recovery, and vitality. Dr. Hyman and his entire staff are caring, positive, and very thorough. They have inspired, encouraged, and diligently cared for me throughout my long and sometimes difficult road to healing. There is a tremendous difference between being "treated" for a medical condition and being "empowered" to overcome it. I am forever grateful for my doctor and team that have empowered me throughout each step of the journey. Functional Medicine is the way to go if you are serious about getting to the root of your physical issues and I cannot recommend a better team than The UltraWellness Center Team!

Fantastic experience: I'm forever grateful to Dr. Mark Hyman for his outstanding and excellent pioneer work in Functional Medicine. He has changed the course of medicine by looking for and treating the root cause of disease instead of addressing symptoms. He has changed the trajectory of my son's life who is recovering from Autism. We are so grateful we found Dr. Hyman and Dr. Elizabeth Boham at the UltraWellness Center! Dr. Boham treats my son; she is so very caring and brilliant in testing and treating my son who is a completely different young man 9 years later. We have seen that when you heal the body, you heal the brain. It is a gift beyond comparison to see your child heal, grow and begin to thrive! I cannot even imagine where my son would be today if we had not found Dr. Hyman and Dr. Boham.

Fantastic experience: I have been working with the Ultrawellness Center for just over a year, having been diagnosed with Graves Disease in November, 2015. Everyone at the Ultrawellness Center has been very professional and caring. I have experienced significant improvement in my symptoms and overall health by following their recommendations. It takes work and persistence, but the partnership from the team at the Ultrawellness Center makes all the difference in the world. They are a great group.

Negative experience: It is so disappointing! I had so much respect for Dr. Hyman. I bought his books, followed his recommendations, got great results but still struggling with other unanswered questions that my own PCP can't answer either. I was planning to invest all I have to see him but it seems that his target populations are only the millionaires and billionaires, not middle income people! If the waiting list is that long and the calls are so high to respond within days or months, why not adding an online consultation for reasonable fees, for those who cannot travel that far or most of people who cannot afford the insane fees?
