Negative experience: I'd give zero stars if possible. Initially, the doctor was pleasant with our daughter and we had a good experience with her colonoscopy. However, because he did not get an obvious diagnosis he stated she was "anxious because of school" despite her stating many times she wasn't. He prescribed medication and if it was up to him she'd probably still be on it almost 2 years later. (We went elsewhere and found out my daughter needed surgery that resolved her symptoms.) Since then I've tried a number of times to get her medical records and never get a response. We went into his office asking for at least her billing records and the doctor proceeded to argue with us about whether or not we needed the records that our insurance company specifically asked for. He treated us like we were stupid and gave us an email address and said "it will take time" to get the records.

Negative experience: Dr Khurana and the Staff were nice, but not knowledgeable enough in modern medicine for treating IBD. Pushing old medications that had many side effects. Phx Childrens has a much more thorough and modern approach.

Alaina Stonewall 5 months ago

Negative experience: Front office lady had an attitude and was not very understanding with questions and policies regarding payment. Additionally, I Waited over an hour to see the doctor. Because they over booked. When I was initially told when I made the appointment that I would be the first person of the day

Negative experience: Takes over an hour past the appointment time to be seen here! Do not come here!

Fantastic experience: Great experience! Caring and knowledgeable doctor, and he put my son at ease!

Negative experience: The worst doctor ever paid 200 at check in for nothing he told my 3 years to cut fruit and chocolate for 2weeks he didn't even look at her test results and he said we have to buy some medication on Amazon. And it won't cover by insurance waste of money and time do not go to this clinic

Negative experience: This office is TERRIBLE! My son saw the doctor for a while and we really liked him. The problem is his front office staff. My son was hospitalized at the end of December and we were supposed to have a Zoom call, which I never received. Maybe I had bad reception at the hospital, I don't know, but I did not get a call. Nevertheless, when I called to make a new appt, they told me I no showed, and did not give me an option to pay a fee or anything. They simply said they would have to speak to the doctor. Of course nobody ever called me back. I called a few weeks ago, again to try to schedule, and was told they would need to speak to the office manager and call me back. Of course I never got a call. We had a great rapport with the doc, but can't seem to speak to him. My son is in dire need of a doc to manage his feeds, as he is getting a feeding tube soon. I have to scramble to find a new doctor for him. I have never no showed for a doctor's appt in my life for myself or my children. This was simply a technical thing and they dropped us like a hot potato. I am disgusted with the way they do business. STAY AWAY!!!!

Fantastic experience: Thank you to Dr. Khurana!! After seeking care at the ER, and a ENT specialist, he was able to crack the case in minutes! He listened and had a great bedside manner. Lastly, thank you to his team for getting us in within 24 hours. Refreshing to meet a doctor who is so caring!

Negative experience: Arrived for my son's appointment to be told I needed to pay $281 for the visit. This wasn't mentioned when the appointment was scheduled, nor did I receive a phone call during the week leading up to the appointment to notify me of the charge. I asked to pay half and be billed the reminder and was told no (I have claims hitting to meet my deductible so I know it won't be $281). Because I couldn't pay the $281 that was thrown on me at check in, I was told I needed to pay the $25 appointment cancellation fee right then. I live 40 minutes away; a phone call beforehand notifying me of the charge could've prevented a bad Google review and wasted time/gas.

Fantastic experience: My son had a Endoscopy done today! All staff were very nice. Explained everything to me before we went to the back. Anesthesiologist and his side kick were amazing. Dr was so nice and came out right away to let us know how our son was doing. Ty team.

Negative experience: Bad bad experience stay away from this doctor and his clinic. Dr. Khurana was rude and unprofessional when I asked him to provide medical records. Honestly for 2 years he didn’t do much to my daughter condition and even her primary dr. recommended us to find another GI specialist.

Advanced Pediatrics Gastroenterology - Sanjeev Khurana, MD

Sorry for the inconvenience you have gone through. Medical standard is to fax the medical records only after written consent is obtained from responsible party and not on verbal request. Our best wishes for future care and thank you for allowing us to take care of your family member.

Negative experience: Not enough staff, no attention to detail. I had service done a month ago and originally had appointment set virtually then was told I have to be present in person. Still trying to make appointment to get results. The follow up from this office is horrible. Don't go to this location unless you want to reschedule multiple times and have time to spend bothering there office for follow ups.

Advanced Pediatrics Gastroenterology - Sanjeev Khurana, MD

We are so sorry for this inconvenience. Our records show that appointment was made for a follow up and it was a no show. Please call us back tomorrow and we will be happy to make appointment.

Negative experience: Never again, he’s not knowledgeable, he doesn’t listen to your concerns and we ended up having to go to a different specialist who did resolve our issue.

Negative experience: Very rude front desk schedulers, unfortunately had to reschedule an appt last minute and the man on the phone was rude and asked me for my card info to charge me a rescheduling fee. Once I told him i won't be scheduling he was very upset

Fantastic experience: We have been seeing Dr. Khurana for quite a few years now, and he is still the best pediatric GI we have encountered. He is quite far from where we currently live, but my son's refuse to see anyone else.

Negative experience: Update: the doctor calls me after this review to let me know that he knows I’ve “lied” about never receiving an appt reminder so he will do me a favor to wave the fee. How unprofessional. I proceeded to tell him I decided to take my child elsewhere & he then proceeds to ask if I can take down the review which prompted their response to make it seem like it wasn’t their fault. This place is extremely money hungry & is horrible at patient care. This place is horrible. There’s no follow up from anyone in the office & they turn around & blame the patients. If you want proper care for your child, do yourself a favor & go see someone else.

Advanced Pediatrics Gastroenterology - Sanjeev Khurana, MD

Follow up appointment was made and given to you during the first visit. However, patient was no show for the follow up visit. I am so sorry that you have missed the appointment. Thanks for allowing us take care of your child.

Negative experience: i’m using another account to post this, since google doesn’t let you post 2 reviews for the same place. the people working at this gastro have replied to my review, saying it was “fake” and that i was lying. what happened to me was very real, and i suffered. when i was 10, dr. khurana put me on very high doses of the steroid prednisone, which only worsened my flares. when i switched to a different GI, she said that she had never even seen an elderly person be taking such a high amount of steroids. it was a terrible experience.

maddie s 2 years ago

Negative experience: being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at 5 years old, i’ve only seen two gastroenterologists, one of them being dr. khurana. never again. i saw him when i was around 10 years old, i had very severe colitis with constant flare ups. his solution was to put me on prednisone. each time i came back, still having flares, he upped the dosage. at 10 years old, he was putting me on an insane amount of steroids. i switched back to my original gastro, and she said she had never even seen an elderly person be on such a high dosage of steroids. i truly do not recommend him to anyone, it was an awful experience

Advanced Pediatrics Gastroenterology - Sanjeev Khurana, MD

This is fake review, we dont treat adult patient and we are pediatric gastroenterologist. In one sentence patient is 5 and 10 yrs old and in other sentence patient is elderly. I will request google to review and hopefully remove it.

Negative experience: Zero follow up after ordering bloodwork. When my daughters issues continued to get worse both myself and mom called in and spoke to receptionist to try to get in contact with doctor for advice, on both occasions were told we would receive a call back and never did. The doctor ordered bloodwork and stool samples and after getting bloodwork done we never heard back from them. I would avoid this place, they're happy to take your insurance and co pay then drop communication all together.

Negative experience: This was a nightmare now my child won’t see a Gi doc , the anesthesiologist and the doc were weird from the start the doc and anesthesiologist are both male and the male anesthesiologist wanted me to leave him alone with my daughter not happening the doc tried so hard to convince me my daughter was like no mom i said hell no we walked out as the doc begged us to stay like it got scary I would not take any child here , parents ask questions n lots of questions don’t just let anyone take your kids god bless

Advanced Pediatrics Gastroenterology - Sanjeev Khurana, MD

I understand the hesitation of a parent to leave their child in the care of others, however the policy of this facility (in addition to every other surgical/endoscopic and hospital facility in the country) is that parents and loved ones are not permitted to remain in the operating theatre or procedure room during any surgery or procedure, particularly when undergoing anesthesia. Only physicians, assistants and patients are permitted, regardless of the age or sex of the patient.

I did request that you reconsider staying, as your daughter had already undergone a 2 day bowel preparation for her procedure. That is cumbersome, uncomfortable, and unpleasant for any patient, especially if the procedure is then cancelled.

Your reservations regarding the male anesthesiologist and gastro-enterologist being left alone with your daughter are incorrect as we have employed a female technician for as long as we have been performing procedures as well as a female recovery nurse the majority of the time. I understand your hesitation in this regard as you did not inquire as to the other staff members present.

As always, we respect your decision to cancel the procedure for your daughter, and am available to refer you to another physician.

Kindest Regards,

Advanced Pediatric Gastroenterology

Fantastic experience: Dr Khurana was fantastic to work with. My child’s pediatrician referred her to another GI office that could not see her for 5 months. I called Advanced Pediatric GI and Dr Khurana himself answered the phone. He talked with me and said he could see my child the following week. Our wait time was very brief in the waiting area and he scheduled my daughters Upper endoscopy within 2 weeks on a Saturday. The anesthesiologist was wonderful as well as all staff with my child. Results were back and given within 1 week time. I highly recommend Advanced Pediatrics GI and Dr Khurana. Thank you for your excellent care and bedside manner.

Tiffany Winslow 3 years ago

Negative experience: He did not ask any questions or assess my daughter. We had waited 4 weeks for this appointment regarding her chronic constipation. He literally said “well there isn’t really anything that I can do besides give her miralax”(which we had been doing). He did not want to order any tests/imaging to rule out or diagnose her.I honestly do not understand how he felt comfortable allowing us to leave without even taking a basic history. Ex how long has this has been a problem, what were habits Like before, what treatments have you tried, any meds that she has recently started? The staff was friendly which is why I gave the office 2 stars but this Dr was extremely disappointing.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Khurana is by far one of the best Pediatric Gastro's. He is so nice and helped my daughter understand everything that was going on before the procedure and had her laughing which made this mom feel so much better. He made sure everything was handled and nothing was left unchecked. HE is always making himself available for his patients. I know he is also one of the only Pediatric Gastro's that is not owned or employed by a hospital network which is a big plus, seeing how the ones that are, are charging 3 to 4 times as much. That helped as a single parent with a high deductible plan.

Fantastic experience: We saw the doctor yesterday and he was extremely kind and thorough. He explained everything to us and to our son. Our son is 12 and he was patient and went over all of my many questions. It feels good to have a plan and know that we have a knowledgeable doctor to help us during this time! Rachelle is very kind in the front office and was able to tell us right away what we will owe and our insurance questions.

Negative experience: My daughter had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Khurana. Unfortunately, we had to reschedule the appointments twice due to the pandemic. They told me I was no longer welcome there and to find another doctor. Due to the climate we are all in, I would think that compassion and understanding would be the right response, not get loss.

Fantastic experience: My 8 month old was recently admitted to the hospital and when we were discharged, we were left a little lost and unsure what to do about some residual medical issues we did not expect. Our PCP unfortunately couldn't make heads or tails of the issues and told us to see a GI to investigate further. We found Dr Kurana on Google and somehow he was able to get us in quickly given the circumstances. We had our initial telehealth visit and WOW. Dude is a wizard. Took him 15 minutes and he instantly knew what the issue likely was. Ordered a dose change of one of his medication and changed some feeding intervals. Boom. Problem solved in a day. I highly recommend him. My wife and I are both nurses and completely appreciated that he was willing to trial the dose change before any invasive diagnostics. He seems to genuinely care about my son's well being. Thank you Dr Kurana and staff!

Fantastic experience: What can I say about this place and Dr. Khurana... I am truely thankful for them! Office staff is very friendly! My daughter has dealt with consitpation issues since a baby and now shes 3 yrs old. We started to see him last year and he saved my daughter from being scoped! Dr Khurana has came up with a game plan to help my daughter and its been working! You never want to see your kiddo in pain. When you call for him during after hours, it goes striaght to his phone. Which I am quite thankful for!! Dr. Khurana has great bedside manners and I highly reccommend him to everybody! My daughter even likes him! Dr. Khurana also answers my questions and even write stuff down for me to get for my daughter. Even when I had to take my daughter to ER last week. The Er doctor was thrilled that we see him. Negative experience: If I could give this doctor 0 stars I would. He was nice at first but completely changed attitude when I by mistake showed up at the wrong location because they never called to confirm the appointment or called for pre op instructions. I call them and no answer of course the office was closed and later when the appointment was they are calling me and he was very upset and in the most rudest way tells me to find another doctor. Never had to experience this ever and for something that could have been prevented I get told off to find another doctor. Well sorry I even bothered with you . I definitely be careful with this guy . No way you can trust someone like this. Very unprofessional. Dr. Khurana is the most rudest doctor I encountered. Definitely did not expect this from what seemed a nice guy. Don't be fooled.

Advanced Pediatrics Gastroenterology - Sanjeev Khurana, MD

Dear Ms. Lopez, I understand your disappointment and I am really sorry for it. Obviously, you had a good experience during the initial office visit. You were given instructions for the procedure, including the time and place on a business card, just like everybody else who showed up for procedures that day. The day before the procedure, office staff called you but did not receive any response. You were supposed to arrive at the place of procedure 30 minutes before the scheduled time and that did not happen. Multiple calls were made on the day of procedure when you did not arrive at the scheduled time. I personally called and gave the option of coming even late to accommodate, which was not acceptable to you. We do endoscopies on Saturdays to accommodate the need of working families and to avoid child`s absence from school. I was waiting with Anesthesiologist and three other personnel to perform the procedure. All this time has gone to waste. There were other patients who could have been scheduled in that slot.
I find it disrespectful to me and my whole team and even more disrespect to those parents who could have been given that time for procedure instead of waiting for another day to get the endoscopy done. It is easy to criticize and take out frustration on the physician, who is trying to provide sincere care to your child, rather that realizing your own mistake.

Negative experience: I will give more than one star as the Dr. was very nice to my son. The office staff told me the wrong information as I was leaving regarding prep my child would need. I was told they would check with my insurance re an E.G.D. being scheduled. I had to call them back over 2 weeks later to be given no info re cost. Find out the E.G.D. would have to be done in Surprise. Going to another G.I. doc now. $50 copay wasted.

Fantastic experience: I was recommended to this office by the pediatric ED Dr at Banner Thunderbird. She had high praise. We were running late so I called the office (it took 1 day to get an appointment btw) and the dr answered the phone himself! He was very pleasant. During our visit he discussed what treatment plan he preferred and why. Even though I'm a nurse he explained it to me in great detail which is so appreciated! He interacted with my son and explained everything to him as well. He direct admitted him to the hospital so he could perform an endoscopic procedure. During the visit he re-explained everything to my husband, it was wonderful. He chose not to put an NG tube down into my son's stomach to give him the chance to drink the bowel prep before anything more invasive. He kept us informed about the procedure time and when the procedure was finished he came out immediately to let us know how our son did and that he found the issue. He let us know when he would discharge us and exactly what the treatment would be and for how long. I have never been so please with a physician's care especially and I'm picky due to my medical background. The office girls were absolutely wonderful as well!

Kimberly Marichalar 8 years ago

Negative experience: Not a very good experience at all if I could give 0 stars I would. Granted it's been 2 years but my son's story needs to be told. We were referred here because my son was having sever pain with his gallbladder. I knew it was his gallbladder because my older daughter went through the same exact thing years before and was never caught till she had to have emergency surgery in Nevada to have her gallbladder revolved. So we were referred to this office by now I know what test to request so I did. First doctor ordered an endoscopy done had it done and he said everything looked ok. So at this point I requested a HIDA scan because my son was literally in pain most of the day every day starting with being curled up in the fetal position till noon. I had to withdraw him from school because I wasn't getting any where fast and he couldn't go to school. Doctor didnt want to do a HIDA scan because he was determined that it was not my son's gallbladder and that kids don't have gallbladder issues. After arguing with the doctor to get the HIDA scan done he finally said ok. We waited and waited but didn't hear another word so I gave up on thi s office because my son could not wait. We went back to our wonderful pediatrician and ordered the HIDA scan stat which we got the following week and it was borderline. About a month to a month and a half later we finally got a call about a HIDA scan from this doctor. He wasn't in a hurry even though my son was in sever pain. Any way after the borderline HIDA scan came back because my son was in so much pain my pediatrician sent us to talk to a surgeon with all his records. Surgeon told us it was not a black and white case so he could not make the decision to do surgery but said everything he said definitely looked like it could be the problem so he left surgery up to us gave us 24 hours to decide. And since our son was 15 we left the choice up to him. He decided to do surgery. So during surgery our surgeon takes pictures. He brought me a picture after surgery of my son's gallbladder and said he was so glad that we did the surgery because our sons gallbladder was surrounded and covered by scar tissue. Today he is a happy healthy almost 17 year old taking the gallbladder out solved the problem. So when anyone tells you kids don't have gallbladder problems don't listen to them it's not true. It's not common but that don't mean it does not happen.
