Lori Lieberman & Associates, LLC

Positive experience: DISCLAIMER: This experience was over 10 years ago, before I was even aware of Google reviews. However, in a recent bout of nostalgia (well something like that…) I decided to look up the reviews for Lori and was shocked to see that they were overwhelmingly positive. That triggered me to write this review to warn others of what I experienced with Lori when I was a teenager. Specifically, that I think Lori is probably an excellent resource if you are trying to lose weight, but NOT if you have a restrictive eating disorder and especially not if you are a teenager. Summary of everything I remember: * My first appointment, Lori told my mother and I that I had anorexia. I absolutely did, but at the time it was earth shattering news to my teenage self. I bawled in her office. The next week (maybe 2 weeks) when I saw Lori again, she didn’t remember me. She reintroduced herself and everything. I don’t expect to be that memorable of a person, but I expect a clinician to at least check their notes before seeing a client to see if they’re new or not. Bonus points for checking their notes if the client cried in your office during their last appointment. * In one of my early sessions with Lori, she told me I had to get to X+5 pounds (using X as a placeholder here to avoid triggers). I had never in my life been more than X pounds. At the time, I was X-10 pounds (and decreasing). I was anorexic and terrified of weight gain. I asked why we couldn’t just get me back to X, where I was comfortable (and which is well within my healthy weight range!!!! It’s not like I was requesting an underweight number) and she told me no. Her weird fixation on X+5 instead of just X did two key things to my anorexic brain: brought the focus back to numbers (which is so dangerous) and made me not trust her * Lori seemed to not understand anorexia at a basic level. I didn’t really want to gain weight (well I did but I didn’t… iykyk), my mother was making me see a nutritionist, and that nutritionist had a weird fixation with getting me to X+5 pounds. In front of me, she started telling my mother ways to cook for weight gain. Right then and there, she essentially taught me how to lose weight. I started losing weight more rapidly after I started seeing Lori and that was no coincidence. I will refrain from sharing specifics. * Eventually, I was admitted to a treatment facility for my anorexia. When I got out, I had to start tracking my intake again for Lori. I find this to be playing with fire for an anorexic. Tracking intake is a hard habit to shake. (By this time, she had dropped her weird fixation with X+5 and was content with me being at X.) I’m sure I was a bratty teenager with mental health issues that needed therapy more than a nutritionist. I was probably too far into anorexia land (0 stars, do not recommend) to be helped by Lori, but that doesn’t change that my experience with her was awful, evidenced by me thinking about it ten years later. I would never recommend that anyone with a restrictive eating disorder go here, although I hope they have improved in the past 10 years.

Fantastic experience: I was somewhat skeptical of what the benefits of meeting with a nutritionist might provide. However on the recommendation of my physician I did schedule a session. Now with a twenty five pound weight loss and blood sugar levels dramatically lowered, my diabetes is definitely in much better control. I am so grateful to these wonderful folks, especially Beth, for their attention to detail and continuous follow through. The cheerful atmosphere and extremely pleasant support staff make every appointment so easy. Moving forward, they will definitely continue to be an integral component of my health care team.

Fantastic experience: Six months ago, I began my weight loss journey. I knew what I was experiencing was different this time and I knew I wanted a support system. I received that from a referral from my PCP. This referral is exactly what I needed. Sharon provides the best conversations to make me think and try new processes. She shares her knowledge…and makes me think about how will this work for me. If I stumble through something, she is there to help me find my path. If you are ready and want guidance, this is the place!! Thank you for walking this path with me!!

Fantastic experience: I have been working with Stephanie Chen for almost one year now and she is absolutely fantastic! I could not recommend her or this practice enough. She listens, she is understanding, caring and so much more. I don't know where id be without her help, I feel so much more in control of my symptoms since working with her, even though some weeks I may not be as consistent. The office staff is also extremely friendly and warm. :)

Fantastic experience: I was able to work with Beth and quickly identify the root cause of my symptoms. It’s been an ongoing issue for years now. I thought I was GF all this time but turns out I was actually LF. She helped me understand how symptoms can take time to occur in our bodies, how common LF really is and the science behind it all. Working together, I was able to reintroduce gluten into my diet with great success. The amount of freedom I feel around food is amazing. I am so grateful to have worked with Beth!!!

Fantastic experience: Let's do this! I had a wonderful first session with Sharon who is a Nutritionist with Lori Lieberman and Associates. After I talked to her about my struggles with what I feel is an addiction to food and distracted eating. Also I don't feel I have the knowledge of the right way to eat. Sharon picked up on a lot of keys items I shared and gave me some wonderful takeaways. After years of doing intermittent fasting we're going to do an experiment of trying one month of eating a small meal in the morning and a better lunch. She was great with ideas and, what was also very helpful for me, was the follow-up email detailing it again in writing and including some suggestions for breakfast and healthy snacks. At the end of the day it's really up to me but I'm excited and feeling hopeful.

Fantastic experience: Beth Kitzis is amazing. My husband was diagnosed with diabetes. After seeing Beth, my husband lost 28 1/2 lbs, and his A1C rate is much lower. Beth advised us on how to eat healthy and it worked. I would highly recommend Beth and Lori Lieberman & Associates! 5 stars isn't enough...they are worth much more!

Fantastic experience: I've been working with Stephanie Chen for a few months now. My problem was I had diverticulitis and covid at the same time last September I lost about 20 pounds and definitely needed to maintain my weight and how to keep my diverticulitis flares at bay. Stephanie explained in detail so much about nutrition that I never Knew. Thank you Stephanie for your help

Fantastic experience: My story is long, but I’ll tell it quick. I have a few autoimmune issues with a long term feeding tube. I had Covid and started losing weight. Down 12 lbs and after many doctors, I was about to remove my feeding tube and let whatever happens happen. My last doctor sent to me to Lieberman. Tori took my case. She’s very well versed on feeding tubes. She questioned if I may have celiac disease. By golly, I do. Bless her heart! I’m now on a higher calorie feeding and off gluten. I’ll see a GI doctor for a biopsy, but, clearly, Tori gave me hope! She looked at the whole picture when doctors did not!

Fantastic experience: I had such a positive experience with Tori. She was incredibly thoughtful and patient, and offered very individualized advice that helped to make diet restrictions seem less intimidating. It was also easy to make appointments and she was flexible if I needed to reschedule. I would definitely recommend her for anyone struggling with IBS and/or SIBO!

Fantastic experience: If I could give them 100 stars I would! I have seen Stephanie Chen 2 times and already she has completely changed the way I look at food, it now makes sense to me! I have been a vegetarian for many years as well as a very picky eater. She worked with me with zero judgement on my lack of proper nutrition, due to being such a picky eater, she helped me find meals and food that I like and made it work in a clear, interesting and flexible meal plan. Stephanie has such a kind and clear way of explaining nutrition so that it is so easy to understand what to eat, protein intake etc. It has been almost a month since my first visit and it’s been life changing, I feel SO much better, more energy, clearer skin, lost weight and happier all around. Consider seeing Stephanie, she is amazing and so helpful!

Fantastic experience: I had a zoom meeting with A dietitian and received the information I was looking for to help guide me in a direction that hopefully will slow down the advance of my ckd. The dietitian was very knowledgeable and provided me with the answers to my questions and was very pleasant and cooperative.

Fantastic experience: I have been working with Stephanie Chen for the last few months. I initially went to see her as I have been unhappy with my weight for quite some time. I have literally tried EVERYTHING - counting macros, shakes, bars, WW, you name it. I was ready for something that would actually work and I found it! Working with Stephanie has helped me start to shift my mindset from "diet culture" to more "intuitive eating". In the last month I have let go of many of the arbitrary restrictions I had placed on my eating and feel more in control. Stephanie is lovely and calm and very knowledgable. She has introduced many concepts to me, particularly around disordered eating and the cycles that I have been a part of for so many years. I finally feel better -- I have more work to do -- but I look forward to breaking free from diet culture and coming to a place where I like the person I see in the mirror and don't feel deprived or restricted. Fantastic experience: I have been fortunate enough to have found Sharon and I have benefited greatly from my time with her. She has gently guided my journey from a rigid, diet-centered approach to a more healthful, intuitive eating approach. As a result, I have been able to develop greater trust in my body and to do work on the emotional underpinnings of my sometimes disregulated eating.

Fantastic experience: I have been with Lori about 15 years through some very difficult times. Although I have trouble fulfilling her goals, she has not given up on me and even though I do not want to admit it, she is probably the only reason I am still alive and able to do the things I like to do. She can be understanding but is also is a no-nonsense person, the kind of person I need. I feel fortunate to have her as my nutritionist.

Fantastic experience: Emails were always answered quickly and pleasantly. I really love my visits with Sharon. I felt very comfortable with her right away. Sharon is able to communicate her knowledge to me in a way that makes it easy to understand and is not overwhelming to me. I feel like she really cares about me as a patient.

Fantastic experience: Lori has been a terrific educator and counselor for me as I begin my journey toward an eating and exercise plan that will keep my Type 2 Diabetes well managed. While helping me keep myself accountable, she has provided me with a common-sense approach and does this with a style and manner which allows me to feel relaxed and engaged.

Fantastic experience: I've been seeing Lori, from Lori Lieberman & Associates for several years now. She has greatly helped me overcome several obstacles surround my eating habits. She does a great job meeting you where ever you're at and giving you very attainable weekly goals to accomplish. I cannot say enough great things about her practice. Fantastic experience: Lori is simply amazing. She helps me to control my diabetes by helping me to understand that I can still eat all types of foods. I have anorexia as well and again, Lori helps me to see that there are no ‘bad’ foods. She is compassionate and understanding about my fears of gaining weight and is extremely skillful in debunking my food myths. Lori is knowledgeable and kind. She pushes me to challenge my distorted thoughts and I am grateful to call her my dietician!

Negative experience: Unprofessional business. The address is wrong on their own invoices and get returned as undeliverable. Then, no one answers the phone or returns voice mails.

Fantastic experience: In only a single visit, Tori was able to determine that my overeating was caused by my constant rushing. Once I slowed down and really savored the food (and was not distracted by a TV, phone or book), I was much more satisfied with one portion of food vs. the seconds and thirds I always craved. I'm stunned at the change in me with just one hour w/Tori. Life changing!

Fantastic experience: This has been a great experience and I seem to be slowly shifting mindset and getting a healthier relationship with my diet and health. Jessica is great to work with. Sincere, funny, knowledgeable, real and gets me as a patient - my concerns and needs. It was by chance I was referred to Lori Lieberman and associates, but, glad I cam across them.

Negative experience: Referred LLA by my doctor. I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. During covad I was suppose to have 30min-45min call. My doctor sent over blood work and and records. The person on phone from LLA had none of information and kept call anyway. They told me not to eat weat and shop at the gluten free section of stores. The call was 5-10min very unprofessional. Billed me for an hour 300 and change. No real services provided. It is amazing LLA has so many 5 star reviews?Seem a little unbelievable? Dave

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Lori and her team enough. One of my daughters was having significant GI problems. Over the course of 10 months, she tried numerous medications and had an extensive workup, including a colonoscopy and endoscopy, and all of it led to no significant improvement. During our very first visit, Lori suggested some key changes, and they had an enormous impact on my daughter's health. With each appointment, she set practical and attainable goals that made all the difference for my daughter. We are so thankful. As an added bonus, her recipes have been a real treat for the whole family. I highly recommend this practice.

Treatment is tailored and personalized, she can easily pivot, and she helps to find root cause and offers very knowleable expertise of the "why" and how to move forward. Highly recomment Jessica!

Fantastic experience: I met with Lori Lieberman for advice on dealing with migraine. Lori is knowledgeable, warm, and easy to talk to. She listened to my situation and gave me specific suggestions based on it. I expected her to emphasize restricting foods that could be migraine triggers. Instead, she encouraged me to eat more frequently, helped me find a way to identify triggers, and opened up my diet. She also gave me other insights and practical suggestions. Fantastic experience: Jessica Shaw has been a life-saver helping to guide us through a family member's eating disorder. She practices Family Based Therapy (FBT) which engages us all towards positive outcomes. We have slipped many times as the process is not easy, however her patient and calm attitude has allowed us to pick up where we left off, after each week's meeting.

Fantastic experience: The Way Forward We discovered that my daughter was struggling with body image and her relationship with food. Our pediatrician referred us to Lori Lieberman and Associates. We were fortunate to have found Lori's team. The office staff was very welcoming and efficient. After providing a brief background on my daughter and description of our health concerns we were paired with Jessica Shaw. Jessica's patience and guidance has helped my daughter and I navigate through treatment. We have found their family based treatment approach really helpful. Jessica was met with resistance and limited food preferences from my daughter. We were surely not an easy pair but Jessica was able to manage us with care, compassion, and helped us focus on the way forward. With her nutritional guidelines, encouragement, and coaching my daughter has begun to repair her relationship with food. We are not yet on the other side of the struggle but we can now see real progress!

Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable and grounded in her approach to nutrition, but she also has tremendous insight and is wondrously able to connect on a very deep level personally, which is helpful given the challenging and individual nature of this work. All of my meetings with Lori have been through Zoom and yet I feel like I have known her forever. Lori’s outstanding depth of knowledge combined with her empathetic demeanor combine to really help foster a feeling that I am being well taken care of and that I can achieve my goals. Lori is patient and the fact that she truly cares is evident even when she needs to be firm or direct, both of which are qualities of hers that are also appreciated. Fantastic experience: I have been meeting with my nutritionist Sharon over zoom and I can honestly say it has been great! I appreciate her knowledge and expertise and am really feeling supported as I try to make changes that are not easy. We talk every few weeks and make plans and set goals and I can ask questions and get advice on anything and everything nutrition. So glad I was referred to them!

Fantastic experience: Lori has been working with our 11 year old daughter for about six months. She is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate yet firm. We learned so much about our daughter's condition but never felt overwhelmed. As it turns out, we have needed to pursue another course of treatment that Lori suggested early on in our work together but for which we weren't ready. Her patience and expertise were exactly what we needed and I wouldn't hesitate to see her again.

Fantastic experience: Lori is great! She is knowledgeable , kind and thoughtful. I had been eating gluten free for a few years without positive results. I stopped eating gluten free and started eating more fiber which helped my digestion.

Fantastic experience: I have been bringing my son to see Lori for several months at the suggestion of his pediatrician. She came very highly recommended, and was described as being especially good with kids and teens. Lori always manages to make both my son and me feel very much at ease, and she is extremely patient and understanding. She helps us set reasonable goals, and is very encouraging, so we don't feel overwhelmed. We never are made to feel bad if we fall short of a specific goal, and it makes it very easy to continue our appointments with consistency, even if that week's results might not be what we were hoping for. Her ability to explain things in clear and simple terms makes things easy to understand. We are very grateful to have her as a resource, and I am very optimistic that we will have have long-term success.

Fantastic experience: I've meet with Sharon Gallagher a couple of times now via Zoom. I was skeptical about how these meeting would go virtually but the convenience of the virtual meetings is great. I worried that I would have to take time away from the office (for an office visit) but COVID-19 took care of that! I believe that the back/forth conversation, for me, seemed to flow easier and I opened up more... Because I am in a comfortable familiar setting. My preference would be virtual as It's more of a time saver!! And Sharon has been excellent with great suggestions and straight talk on how carbs and fiber impact the body. Thank you Sharon!

Fantastic experience: I first began seeing Lori in October 2019, arriving at her office at a dangerously low BMI after A 30-year struggle with disordered eating. Lori was compassionate and understanding of the struggles that accompany restrictive eating patterns, especially in those who don’t fit the stereotypical model. She recognized that struggling with anorexia in midlife raises concerns that are not relevant when treating adolescents. She encouraged me to go beyond my comfort zone and addressed the underlying thoughts and misconceptions that impede my full recovery. She has provided me with valuable insight and practical tools so that I can overcome this disease and live life to the fullest. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Fantastic experience: I have been bringing my two sons, ages 8 & 12, to Lori for the past two months. Both for similar but slightly different weight loss issues. She has been great- went over their growth charts in depth from the start, offers ongoing nutritional education & develops simple, straight forward, achievable weekly goals for them to follow. Fantastic experience: My amazing wife did some researching to help me manage my diabetes and found Lori Lieberman. My diabetes has been ill managed (to say the least) with blood sugars in the 3-400’s... Lori has been an outstanding and consistent advocate and teacher when it comes to diet and diabetes. Although still a work in progress, my A1C has gone from in the 10-11’s, down to an average of 6.9 over the last 30 days! She has a wonderful "bedside manner", so kind and considerate. Margot goes out of her way to improve her patients quality of life. Fantastic experience: Lori has been instrumental in helping our daughter in the process of restoring her weight after developing an an eating disorder. Lori directed us to Family Based Treatment, which is best practice according to recent research. She also provided resources that helped us understand what was happening to our daughter physically and cognitively. With weight getting closer to being restored our daughter will be more able to tackle the emotional components underlying the disorder. We are so grateful for having found the right support and treatment with Lori.

Fantastic experience: I've been seeing Lori for the past few months after being told I am borderline prediabetic by my doctor. Lori is helping me uncover, dispel and understand all the information about how my body works and how to reduce my risks by managing my blood sugar. Meeting with Lori on a regular basis, she takes the time to listen, "unpack" as she calls it the data points of my blood sugars and how the food I eat affects those numbers. I like her simple, non restrictive approach to eating so its sustainable for the long term. She is a great listener and a good reality check. Fantastic experience: My daughter, age 15, diagnosed with Anorexia, Restricting Type, began seeing Lori Lieberman, on the advise of our pediatrician, in January, 2019 after she had been hospitalized due to very low vitals. Lori actively listens to our concerns and ongoing difficulties navigating this illness and adjusts recommendations based on my daughter's status. Lori has been sensitive to the individualized complications of my daughter's condition and helped us to push through each nutritional and emotional barrier associated with Anorexia. I easily began to trust and respect Lori's judgement in helping my daughter to gain weight, with ongoing resistance from my daughter. My daughter was able to gain enough weight in four months (30 pounds by April) to be considered weight restored! I sincerely believe she would not have made this type of progress without Lori's expert advise and I am so grateful. We continue treatment with Lori, as Anorexia requires long term monitoring and my daughter is still very resistant. I highly recommend Lori for clinical consultation for any nutritional concern and for ongoing treatment.

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Lori & Assoc by my primary doctor to try and overcome some obstacles to the changes to diet and exercise that I needed to become healthier. I've tried various methods in the past, but Lori worked with me to tailor an approach that only required little bumps and shifts to my lifestyle, with an awareness of how difficult making changes can be. Her knowledge and personal experience really seems to give insight into the difficulties we may face in this process. The results have been slow and steady. Now six months later, unlike anything I've done before, I know that the changes I've made will last and can be built upon. It's great to feel so much healthier than I did, and to know that I am still making progress and will continue to do so. Also: The front office and billing folks are great too, very pleasant and accommodating, very prompt with callbacks and rescheduling.
