Negative experience: I was seen there a few years ago and couldn’t be more disappointed? Not only was I asked to pay $1000 upfront for which I had an exam in the kitchen because I was told they were busy and didn’t have an examining room available. On top that all my lab work was paid by me, however the office billed my ins as well. When I called my ins I was told that the practice owed back funds for something it was paid but shouldn’t and didn’t return them. For that reason my reimbursement to me was withheld so that the funds owed back by the practice would satisfy the owed funds which amounted to around $300, what a sham. I wonder how many people like me were duped. I got nothing for my $1000 plus the money owed to me by my insurance for which this practice was credited. That was a lot of money for a widowed retiree, I’m still very upset. My stepson referred me there was also a patient.

Fantastic experience: Perfection. Dr. Elliot & Dr. Weirs are both fantastic physicians. They listen and they hear you. The entire Team at COEM is top notch. They do medicine the right way.

Negative experience: The worst service I have ever received. I scheduled and paid $550 for a one-hour telehealth consultation with Dr. Weirs, which, in reality, lasted no more than two minutes. During this brief interaction, no tests were conducted, and I received no new information. To clarify, I had already requested the tests that Dr. Weirs suggested. Dr. Weirs informed me that I should submit my test results for his review, and he would provide further recommendations based on those results. I explicitly inquired whether this follow-up consultation would incur any additional charges, and Dr. Weirs assured me that it would not. Upon receiving my test results, I promptly forwarded them to Dr. Weirs and requested an appointment to discuss them. However, just two minutes before the scheduled appointment, I received a call from this organzaition informing me that an additional charge of $280 would be applied for this consultation. I reiterated that I had been informed by Dr. Weirs that no additional charges would apply, and after being placed on hold for 25 minutes, I was offered an alternative solution: a 30-minute appointment for $180. This situation is deeply concerning. Not only was I charged $550 for a two-minute consultation, but the agreement made with Dr. Weirs was not honored. Furthermore, the lack of transparency and the significant delay in communication added to my frustration. Please avoid this organization unless you want to waste your money and your time.

Fantastic experience: Incredibly patient and kind office. Dr. Elliott is a doctor who doesn't just write a prescription and send you on your way but digs to find the root of the problem. I feel very blessed to have him and his staff in my life.

Positive experience: I am a current patient of COEM and was a patient back in 2010-2011. My 2010-2011 experience is above and beyond what I had ever experienced in the medical field, Dr. Leiberman at the time successfully treated me and I had not had any issues until early 2022. I probably shouldve continued yearl/bi yearly visits with the practice. My latest 2023 visits with COEM I have mixed feelings about - when you are visiting with Dr. Weir you have his full attention, he cares, he is knowledgeable but unfortunately the follow through has not been amazing, Im not sure if its him or the team but I dont really want to point fingers - did not receive any real training on self administered desensitization shots, the instructions are in an email I received after asking for them. Additionally, I had to ask if I needed to follow any specific diet protocol after being treated with nystatin - in the past all of this was heavily spoon fed to me as a client. Im a mid 30's IT guy, relatively smart but sometimes piecing all of this together can be overwhelming, so its important to have practitioners/practitioner team that is willing to guide you every step. I still plan on being a patient for the time being but I believe the communication abilities of this practice need to find its way back to how it was in the 2010. I additionally feel as if most people can still find better guidance here than general practitioners in corporate medical systems. Providing this feedback because I hold this practice in very high regards but still feel it has areas in which it needs to improve.

Fantastic experience: the physicians (liebermann and Weirs) have given me so much useful information since 2001 which is generally available 5-10 years before it is considered general medical information. Dr Weirs has given me insight to help me understand how systems affect one another and helped me avoid knee replacements.

Fantastic experience: I have been a very brittle allergy patient since 1980, and I know from personal experience how hard it is to find a really good allergy treatment center. COEM is a world-class operation using methods that are two generations ahead of the Johns Hopkins scratch test method in common use across the United States. People with serious immune problems such as myself are not candidates for traditional scratch testing, and COEM is one of the very few viable alternatives. This treatment methodology saved my life back in 1980 when I was dying of an immune system collapse following cancer treatment. Fantastic experience: I hope you don't have issues that need COEM, but if you have immune & environmental issues, there are no others in whom I'd put my trust before Dr Lieberman and his team. I first went to COEM in the late 80's during my early college years, during an extreme bout of total systemic overload. I'll never forget arriving there - hobbling in jogging sweats and on crutches, with my knees so swollen I could not wear jeans, could hardly see straight due to the non-stop migraines (chemical induced) that i'd been having for months, and unable to think straight. The staff helped me thru intake, history, and did a deep-dive into my issues over an hour or two. Then Dr Lieberman came in, met briefly with me, and after a bit they said they would be able to help me with the pain before I left for lunch. The first treatment they did was absolutely miraculous - I was able to go out the door in 30 minutes without crutches, able to walk and talk, and even my headache was gone. within 12 hours I had virtually no swelling. Calling it virtually miraculous is well....accurate. That was the start of something completely new in my life, for which I can never thank them enough. I was able to resume college, play sports, start a career, and continue my life. It took 3-5 years of diligent treatment to fully recover my immune system (which was exactly what they had originally told me), but I was able to travel the world for decades as a result of the treatments Dr Lieberman & the team worked up for me. There are very few MD's who are truly leading their fields. This is a group who aren't just the leaders-they are the pioneers.

Fantastic experience: Really appreciated the help and insight that Dr. Weirs offered. Was glad to speak with someone so knowledgeable about mold, Lymes disease, and other illnesses. Spent an hour during the consultation with him, talking about the different illnesses I was concerned about. Per recommendation; I also started taking the DGL PLUS - LICORICE / SLIPPERY ELM supplement for my acid reflux and Gurd. And I must say, I was taking 3+ Tums per day & I haven’t taken one in weeks! Will definitely be purchasing those again!

Negative experience: I would not recommend this practice I expected more for $3000. During my time at COEM I never felt like a patient. I felt like a consumer. I felt like I was an inconvenience. Do you ever go to a doctors office and you want to scream because you feel like no one’s listening to you …that’s what I feel like here. They have a cookie cutter approach, so it doesn’t really matter what you say. I wish I would’ve went with Cell core. It’s not a cookie-cutter protocol and it’s 1/3 of the price. You can call Cell core directly and they will provide a practitioner in your area. I’m not saying COEM‘s protocol won’t help you I’m just saying you can get an equally effective protocol for a third of the price and it’s tailored to you. Every time you go to a new doctor your taking a gamble with your money ...why gamble with 3000 when you can gamble with 1000. From the research I’ve done cell core is the only company that has gotten results while people are currently living in there mold, toxin environments. I didn’t feel well coem protocols but I haven’t had any side effects with Cell core. when I reached out to coem to tell them, I wasn’t feeling well and ask them what to do. I never received a return phone call. Maybe it was an off day for them but I have seen dogs at veterinarian offices that were treated better than I felt like I was treated. In my experience, I made the wrong choice by choosing Coem

Fantastic experience: His intention in my appointment was to ASK WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR and to LISTEN to my answers and to everything I had been feeling and EVEN everything that I thought could be going on. He didn't shush me as if I had been reading Web MD for 10 years and didn't make me feel like I was too stupid to know that something was wrong in my own body like the multiple other doctors have been treating me over the last decade. Had I not been directed to COEM by a family member, I would have had to continue trusting the lackluster medical community in Savannah, Georgia with my life. I've already wasted my 30s and into my 40s on this. Dr.Weirs and his team are intent on saving my life. Nobody cared about doing that before.

Fantastic experience: I was becoming symptomatic to foods in general, making eating very difficult. Finding foods that I wouldn't have a reaction to, cooking and shopping was time consuming and even depressing. I am doing much better with the allergy shots, which are very easy to do. I finally have hope, and I can now eat out at restaurants after years of avoiding.

Positive experience: Addressing root causes and treating the whole person is critical for wellness. The wealth of experience and high quality products is outstanding. In my experience with my daughter I could have wished for a video of our visit, a 30 min afternoon follow up session with Dr. Weirs, and additional time with Cierra as described in the Advanced New Patient Appointment handout. This is why we booked two nights in a hotel. After our initial appointment, we were instructed to come 1/2 hr early the next morning before our Life Coach session so we could have that follow up. You can imagine our disappointment when we arrived to learn that neither Dr. Weirs nor Ciera were available. Also, the Treatment Plan handout was very confusing as much of it did not relate to Naomi and lacked detail about the different supplements, what they were for, and their order of importance for my daughter. The patient rep was very kind to get the products we had decided to purchase and did answer some of my questions but we went home feeling confused and overwhelmed. Larry is wonderful and made the morning worth it! I also appreciated Dr. Weirs' efforts in creating a treatment plan before we even arrived. Overall, I feel quite hopeful that we can fine-tune the treatment plan and get our daughter on the road to recovery. A helpful word about folks w/DS: Speak to the person as much as possible, with the parents as back-up. Use concrete language, speak slowly while making eye-contact, and above all give them a chance to be heard. Thanks so much for your help, and we look forward to working with you toward optimal help for our daughter. We think we are seeing some small improvements already.

Negative experience: No offense to Dr Lieberman, but he needs to retire! He’s a very nice man, but he could not remember what questions he had already asked and would repeat himself the few times I went in. His assistant, Caroline Duncan, I was not impressed with her at all! I felt rushed and felt like my issues and concerns were not addressed appropriately. She came across rude on a few occasions. They nickel and dime you for everything! I had to pay $30 for a lab requisition in order to get blood work at MUSC!!! They say you need this and that, and push several supplements on you! Do not recommend!

I shook his hand and I had a few moments to chat with him! Will cherish that for a long time! I also had the privilege to meet the “new” to COEM...Dr Bernard. I really liked her as well! I hope to use her for GYN in the future. She is also a functional Doctor! (COEM is VERY clean and they do not allow certain chemical odors to come into their nice interior! The office is being beautifully transformed right now! Looks nice.) The thermoscan could not have gone any better. What a very dear lady Caroline is! She is very intelligent and knows her stuff! Made me feel very comfortable before, during , and after my thermoscan! Could not have been a better experience! The new massage therapist , Crystal was wonderful! I was there at COEM for two days and I had two massages! Love the massages and I loved her! Very good personality! And then, last but not least by any means ....was Ciera ! She was THE ALLERGY THERAPIST! I am so impressed with Ciera, she is a “miracle worker” indeed! She is a VERY hard worker! Not many could do her job! Great personality! She is quite busy, but keeps it together! She is SO ORGANIZED! The front desk workers , Lisa Marie and Gina, are superb at their jobs..I’m amazed at the organized place they keep, files galore! They take care of ALL those calls from health struggling folks like me! There also workers there that I did not personally meet. Hopefully next trip over:) I travel 3 hours to go to the place! So worth every minute! I also noticed that a lot of the workers fill in where needed! So very impressed with COEM, I could say more but will stop for now!

We love that the doctor never stopped working for us, even when typical oncologists gave up and told my husband to go home and die (no exaggeration). Negative experience: I unfortunately cannot recommend COEM. After having such high hopes after reading a few reviews, I paid the new patient fees and thought I was going to find answers for my joint pain, stomach issues, Hashimotos, anxiety, and sensitivity to smells. After driving over two hours for my appointment, I could barely walk that day and I was met by Caroline who didn’t even offer to open the door or help with my belongings even though she could see me struggle to walk. The cold encounter continued as she went through my background and history information. I told myself I wasn’t here to see her and try not to get discouraged by her lack of a warm welcome as a new patient. Unfortunately her lack of empathy and no self-awareness continued throughout my time at COEM. I learned she is who I had to go through to get to the doctor and at best she treated me as an inconvenience. When your pharmacist tells you that she was speaking poorly of you over the phone, you know it’s unprofessional and immature. Although Dr Weirs completed any tests I requested, had I not done my own thorough research in what to request, I’m not sure how he would have helped. I believe he truly wants to help people but he could not find the root cause or relief for me. I spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on supplements and tests. The allergy department was continuously closed for unknown reasons when I tried to make an appointment and I was never able to complete my allergy testing that I paid for. After I addressed my issues with costs and treatment by Caroline, it became very clear to me they did not want me to continue as a patient as they were very short and not empathetic to me at all. As a paying customer who is sick and does not feel well, this was not a place I found compassion or very good bedside manner by the staff and I believe the doctors are unaware of how patients can be treated. I truly think Dr. Lieberman and Dr. Weirs hearts wants to help and heal, but there are so many systems in place that are not effective for the patient and you can feel the stress from the staff.

Negative experience: BEWARE!!! HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE!! Please read Travis’ review as well on this site. PLEASE do not let yourself become a victim as we have at this practice. $1250.00 was required for FULL payment of all services and future appointments up front. After paying fully with huge hope and faith in this practice, I began a terrible, upsetting short-lived journey at this center. My medical history was overlooked to be taken and I had to call and email numerous times to remind them it was not done nor scheduled as promised. Critical in any patient journey and appointment. Then I had 1 first consult with Dr Weir and immediately realized that I was being given a cookie cutter protocol same as any and all patients that was not specialized to my needs or specific issues. I even outlined in my history that I have had 2 very bad asthmatic adverse reactions to 2 agents in prior detox, and yet then was given a list of agents at the end of my unimpressive consult that had these very 2 same supplements on them to take? The medical advice was not deeply clinical or scientific and several medical questions that I asked about the Annie Hopper program that they suggested, or chlorophylin, they could not answer? I have worked in the medial field for 30 years and was deeply troubled by the consult and care. I was then told that I would receive my protocol on dosing, usage and supplements and how to take all in a few hours, and no call ever came or guidance beyond a sheet to order and pay additional. But nothing in terms of a protocol or treatment plan with dosing, potential side-effects, nothing? All of this was paid for in advance too. There was no RN, NP or MA in the practice to assist with anything?? I then called and asked for my treatment plan and to see the other doctor in the practice moving forward. I was denied this by the CEO- the doctor’s son... Though this was promised to me prior to paying, that I could switch doctors at anytime. I have continued to email and call the CEO for my treatment plan, dosing guide and for my future appointment scheduling with the other physician and have not been able to get a response from one person in the office. I got one horrible email from the CEO when I called to talk to the practice after the consult to request the other physician and nothing more. I have begged and begged for them to simply call me and speak live or to refund my money since I am not being given anything I was promised when I was required to pay in full for all up front. To say that this has been a devastating ordeal would be putting it mildly. The cost of this service is extreme- and when insurance companies do not participate with a practice it is often for quality metrics and medical standards that are not being followed. Why else would this practice take no insurance nor insurance recognize payment for their care? This ordeal has worsened my condition, left me feeling utterly scammed, and in total disbelief that they are refusing to finish my services properly, as promised by Shannon twice, with the doctor of my choice. And now I have no treatment protocol or guidelines, no therapeutics or supplements that were included in my plan, and no call back or responses to my pleading emails. My only recourse now will be with the Better Business Bureau, and the Attorney General, so I can help others not have to go through this ordeal and lost money as I have. I am speechless.

Negative experience: Some staff I have dealt with are kind while others have a NASTY attitude and act like it is an inconvenience that I have called them. They penny you to death and in my particular case, haven’t done anything for me but take my money. Only 1 good experience here for as long as I’ve been with them and that was the first time I came into the office.

Positive experience: I think Dr. Liebermann and Weirs were great!! Very kind and certainly do their best to help their patient!! The ancillary staff I met at initial appointment were nice and informative!!! However, it can get VERY confusing as to who is who and who the correct contact person would be should you need something once you leave the appointment (esp.for out of town patients who do phone follow ups and dont return for follow ups). Several people will call or email you but never state their titles or their role in your care. Also, I called to speak with the Office Manager because I was planning to do a group order for my sisters and friends but some had allergies and needed to see the ingredients list on some of the creams they wanted to order but never was my call returned. This was unfortunate because they were excited to know they too could order from the Wellness store even though they were not COEM patients!! Please consider listing ingredients in the Wellness store ( esp.for those with allergies)!! Overall, nice establishment...just a few things that could be improved!

Fantastic experience: Dr Wiers has been a valuable source for us in natural, integrative medicine for years. Without his expert knowledge as a leader in the field of environmental medicine, we’d be sick forever. Any time we need an appointment he is promptly available to us- often on the same day. We are so blessed as a family to have the COEM come into our lives as they all work as a team to bring us closer to optimal health. We came to COEM very sick and beyond help after severe toxic mold poisoning but through the years they have brought us periods of good health to get us back on track when we are not so well. Our entire family has unique needs but Dr Wiers is able to help us efficiently and with competent authority. He’s such a strong resource for us and the first go-to medical professional for all our needs. So often if/when we don’t feel well or we are not functioning well, the cause is always environmental. He thinks outside of the box and has excellent solutions and ideas that I have never heard of from my regular doctors or allergists, I spent over a year looking for a doctor as knowledgeable as Dr. Weirs, we are so thankful we found their office. He is very knowledgeable about diet and nutrition that allows the body to help itself. He listened to understand the weird allergic type reactions I have been dealing with (other doctors accused me of just having panic attacks since blood tests and skin tests results say I am not allergic to anything). I now enjoy normal life with my family again.

Fantastic experience: From my perspective, the Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine is a bright light of functional medicine in a dysfunctional medical machine driven by big pharma and lobbyists. A word of caution to anyone reading this though; if you are looking for that quick fix and are not willing to make lifestyle changes as part of your treatment, you probably won’t benefit as much from COEM. Functional medicine works best with patients who are engaged in the process and are reasonable in their expectations. After over 20 years of monitoring high TSH and asking my doctors to find what was causing my thyroid to be sluggish, I had reached a point where I either had to start taking an artificial hormone replacement for the rest of my life or find another way to get to the root cause of the problem. While researching on the Internet I came across the COEM site. At first I was skeptical, especially about full payment in advance. However, as I looked at what services this purchased, it looked much more reasonable. You are getting hours of time with a dedicated doctor and day with staff all devoted to helping you achieve your health goals. Their prices for any supplements or allergy treatments are very competitive. These are obviously provided as a service, not as a profit center. Expect to spend at least one full day working with a clinical historian and the doctor assigned to work with you, as well as some allergy testing based on your history. This brings up another point - the information you provide is a huge factor in the quality of your diagnosis and treatment. Thorough medical history and supporting information (including recent lab work) will tend to yield better results. Garbage in = garbage out. In my case, I was there during working hours all day the first day, and half of the next day. Since I was coming from another part of the state and the weather was perfect, I tent-camped in a beautiful spot at a nearby RV Park and campsite (Lake Aire) rather than in the hotels or other lodging recommended. I don’t think I spent more than ten minutes total waiting for anyone to see me. Unlike most medical practices, COEM doesn’t make it a part of their routine to “park” patients in waiting and examination rooms for long periods of time. My initial results have been nothing short of amazing. Without any pharmaceuticals or hormone supplements I could feel (and measure using basal temperature) changes in just days. After some recommended blood tests came back, I also got a diagnosis (Hashimoto’s) that could have and should have been made any time in the last 20 years that my regular doctors had been “monitoring” my progressively higher TSH. After my first follow-up appointment, I’m encouraged that both the thyroid imbalance and autoimmune response attacking my thyroid should be correctable in the next few months. Since some of this is genetic, I’ll need to continue monitoring to make sure the autoimmunity doesn’t flare up again, but it should be more like a light-skinned person knowing they should use extra sun protection, not something to obsess about. I feel like I have a team of people who work in the medical field because they truly want to make a difference. With the follow-up appointments included in the initial fee, there will be ample opportunities to fine-tune the path I’m on or explore other options as needed. From a personal standpoint, COEM isn’t cheap, but it is a great value. I hope more people in the medical field are inspired by practices like this in order to buck the trends, stop doing what is merely expedient or most profitable, and become better healers - not just of patients, but of our medical systems too. From what I experienced and observed, everyone at COEM seems to demonstrate what a medical team focused on fixing the real problems can accomplish together. Well done!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Lieberman was very easy to talk to, sympathetic, knowledgeable and experienced in the treatment of the Multiple Chemical Sensitivity field. He considers the whole person and all that is going on with his patients bodies, whereas most other doctors only take into consideration their area of expertise. He is very thorough and is such a kind and compassionate man. I wish I lived closer to his office. I live in Huntington WV. I'm very grateful that he accepts phone appointments for people unable to travel to his office due to the constraints of MCS. Fantastic experience: Dr Herbert, Is the only doctor that can help with my wife and understand what and why she feels so bad from this mold that is in her. She sent physical therapy out to help Misty and it was a welcome surprise. We live in Lexington SC. She has promised my wife she will not give up on her which is huge when she is the only person that knows about this horrible mold that has invaded her body. All my wife did was go to work every day and was left in a bank that was full of several different molds and a cleaning company that did not do there jobs in protecting clients and employees. Now she has major stuff happening to her body daily and if it was not for COEM Dr Herbert we would not have a full picture. If you are out there very Ill and do not know what your problem is maybe you should see the doctor's at COEM. The mold never leaves your body and it is scary for your family and that now everywhere she goes the mold it attracts it from everywhere.
