Our comment from Nutrifinder.net about Atrius Health Chestnut Hill/West Roxbury:
Atrius Health Chestnut Hill/West Roxbury is a medical facility with a long-standing reputation for providing quality care. Many patients have praised their primary care doctors, noting exceptional practitioners like Christine Gaggin and Dr. Daley, who are known for their compassion and attention to both physical and mental health needs. The pharmacy staff has also received positive remarks for their quick and effective service, especially in time-sensitive situations.
However, the facility has faced criticism regarding the overall customer service experience. A number of patients have reported difficulties in scheduling appointments, with complaints about long wait times and canceled appointments, leaving many frustrated. Inconsistent experiences with administrative staff have also been highlighted, with instances of rudeness and a lack of empathy reported by several individuals.
Despite these challenges, many appreciate the convenient location, ample free parking, and the facility's cleanliness. The pediatric department, in particular, has been recognized for its excellent staff and engaging atmosphere for children. Overall, while there are areas needing improvement, Atrius Health Chestnut Hill/West Roxbury continues to have dedicated staff committed to patient care.
Atrius Health Chestnut Hill/West Roxbury: Reviews
Negative experience: My doctor is amazing and I’d follow her to the end of the earth. I’ve been a patient with Atrius for over 20 years, and I have to say that unless you get specific admin staff, the rest of them are rude, unapologetic, and have no sense of accountability.
Negative experience: It is very difficult/impossible to make an in-person appointment. I was told my new PCP only makes video appointments which I find ridiculous. I had a skin rash (from psoriasis) that I needed examined and I ended up switching to another PCP at a different office who was able to examine me in person. I would NOT recommend Harvard Vanguard. I prefer Beth Israel as customer service is better.
Negative experience: I regret to say that my experience here has been consistently disappointing. As a Black woman, I’ve often felt like my health concerns are not taken seriously. This was especially evident during a recent bout of laryngitis. Despite clearly communicating that I was unable to speak, the office still insisted that I give them a call, displaying a disturbing lack of sensitivity to my situation. There’s a serious issue with follow-through at this practice. Requests are often ignored, and there is minimal follow-up after appointments. I’ve encountered several instances where the staff has been outright rude, leaving me feeling disrespected and dismissed. It’s incredibly frustrating to have to fight to be heard and taken seriously, especially when it comes to my health. This experience has left me feeling disheartened and neglected, and I can’t in good conscience recommend this practice to anyone who expects to be treated with care and respect.
Fantastic experience: The staff at Atrius Pharmacy Chestnut Hill/West Roxbury were amazing today. I was picking up prescriptions for someone who was discharged from the hospital, but the hospital sent the prescriptions to the multiple incorrect pharmacies, even one in Everett. The staff made calls and got everything fixed in minutes. Exceptional service all the time, but today was above and beyond!
Fantastic experience: Christine Gaggin is the best primary care doctor I have ever seen in my entire life. She not only cares about my physical well being but she has knowledge in mental health. I am so lucky to have found her after I called and switched from another doctor in the wellesley atrius. I believe physical and mental health are connected and Christine must have been sent to me from God she is such a wonderful person. I CANT BELIEVE SHE LEFT ME
Negative experience: My family has gone to Atrius Health/Harvard for decades, and having just become an adult I have zero understanding why we continue to go to Atrius considering the absolute abhorrent quality of customer service, over the span of a month, I have been requesting one singular test that I desperately need to participate in a program required to activate my college scholarship. I needed this papers to be turned in by June 14, and because of this branch, I am left no choice but to wait till the very last minute to turn it in all because no one here follows through with their actions and doesn’t listen to their patients. I have called over a dozen times requesting one lab while also messaging doctors on the MyHealth website. When I called, I got transferred all over the place until someone finally answered just to give me an unsatisfactory/wrong answer. When I use the MyHealth website and message one of the personell requesting for a test, they view my message but don’t answer me. I have waited patiently, assuming they are busy, but four days later and I have heard nothing. I call again to express my frustrations and I am finally told that someone will put in my order for the lab. Thinking that things are finally alright, I leave it alone to not overwhelm them. Two days later I walk in to get my lab work done only for the doctor present to say that they have no orders for me! I then have to call again to figure out why all the people I have dealt with seem to be so incompetent and can’t order a SIMPLE blood test for me. Out of all the people I have dealt with in this branch over the past month, there was one young man who got things done and this was at the Norwood location: when he realized I had no ordered tests, he took action and started making calls regarding my test. About 7 minutes later and I’m finally getting my lab work done thanks to him ONLY. He is the only reason I’m giving two stars, and unfortunately I don’t remember his name. I am now waiting for my results that I likely won’t be able to get in until after my deadline all thanks to the inefficiency and lack of care for this branch. Having just turned 18, this is not the experience I would have with this branch because my father has always gone here. This poor experience quite frankly never makes me want to come here again, but unfortunately that isn’t an option. I hope that my experience is far and few, and if it is not, the people working here need to get their act together - if they don’t like their jobs then they can quit instead of making patient lives miserable and anxiety ridden. I am extremely disappointed, and I have never typed out a bad review for anything in my life, but this deplorable experience deserved it. It is pathetic I had to take time out of my day to even write it.
Hi Sophia, We are truly sorry to hear you have had less than an excellent experience. We will share this review with our corporate patient relations department, but if you would like to speak with someone to discuss further, please call 617-559-8440 or email [email protected].
Fantastic experience: I use there pharmacy they mail my scripts to me
Positive experience: Very clean and professional..but they didn't want to attend to me, however, the doctor was nice..and told me to come back..I went to Equinox..there it is Emergency 24hr
Positive experience: As someone whose been a patient here over 30 years I can tell you that it truly depends on the staff/department that you're dealing with how your experience will be. The adult internal medicine department is not great. Majority of the the doctors & nurses are conditioned to "tell you" what you do & don't need and it's either their way or no way. I stopped seeing a PCP here for that reason. Eyeglass department is okay..the lady in there has off days where she's a little short with you. Pharmacy is not very efficient. Staff is nice but there isn't clear communication or procedure. I have come downstairs from an appointment and waited over 40 minutes for an RX! It was blamed on me because I didn't check in at the window. Wouldn't it only make sense that if someone is prescribed an antibiotic at a "sick" appointment they'd need the RX immediately. Lab has always been decent. The saving grace of the place is Dr. Daley in pediatrics. She is so kind & compassionate. I would never take my children to see anyone else. She's a hidden gem. No one else in the pediatrics department even compares to her. Most of the medical assistants in that department are great too (aside from Glenda. She is the worst!) Overall it's your typical modern day medical center no better, no worse.
Fantastic experience: My PCP is at the kenmore location, but I use the Chestnut Hill location for all lab work and have used the pharmacy. I’ve been really impressed. Everyone is really friendly and efficient. And there is even plenty of free parking
Negative experience: I’ve been coming here my whole life 31 years. This medical center has completely declined over the years. As a woman of color I have to continuously advocate for myself. When I don’t agree with the medical advice or request another opinion I experience gaslighting, mental manipulation, and being labeled as difficult. ANNE MCCAFFREY and her NP DANIELLE BELANGER are horrible. They will push their personal beliefs and they don’t listen to the patient. Doctor MCCAFFREY doesn’t care about her patients. Never checks on me, doesn’t communicate well. The nurse practitioner BELANGER is a gaslighting, pompous troll that doesn’t understand every patient doesn’t fit medical book descriptions. These medical providers are on power trips. It’s either their way or no way. They don’t care about what is best for the patients. They don’t listen !
Negative experience: Atrius health use to be good in the late 80s to mid nineties. Now, although I am diabetic my doctor forgot to give me an A1C test at my 4 month visit and also told me that a complete well visit takes too long. When I tried to ask her a question she held up her hand for me to stop. I am now searching for a new doctor. This is the worst health care I have ever experienced in my entire adult life. Her name is Nicolet Fontain.
Hi Lunita, We are so sorry to hear about this experience. Please feel free to reach out to our Corporate Patient Relations department at 617-559-8440 or [email protected] as they will be able to help you.
Fantastic experience: I just went to get my toe nails clipped. The service was excellent
Fantastic experience: Good parking, pleasant people working there. Quick in office time.
Fantastic experience: There are Heroes working here! Their service is amazing. Staff is very compassionate and the doctors are so supportive.
Fantastic experience: Always a pleasant experience, free parking, conveniently located
Positive experience: Not bad, pretty clean bathrooms. Plenty of FREE PARKING
Positive experience: They are friendly but appointments are hard to get and once I set up mine, they cancelled it and booked me 6 months later, how upsetting and frustrating you think it is?
Fantastic experience: Excellent care.
Fantastic experience: Great medical services.
Fantastic experience: Great staff!
Fantastic experience: As medical experiences go, it was good.
Fantastic experience: Good
Fantastic experience: The staff and the service is great.
Fantastic experience: Dr Ciccone is the best!
Negative experience: Staff is rude and have no empathy!
Negative experience: My daughter had an appt at neuro and was inform around 5:55pm to go to the lab. Ok so I'm at the lab in West Roxbury and the sign on the wall stated it closes at 7 and it was not close to that time all. The process for the lab are not clear enough on the window, when my daughter arrived there was a pt whom was already waiting for 10 minutes and noticed nobody came to his needs. The pt stated that the Radiologist Tech inform him that maybe the lab Tech is probably walking around making their rounds to the departments. The Radiology Tech came out from the back where she just finished assisting her pt, The Radiology Tech went to the back of the lab to found out that the lab tech was in the back and never came to the front to assist anyone. Lab Tech stated we close at 6 sorry can not help you, but I can call the Main lab to see if they would take the specimen without it being spinned. I stated they will not take the blood without it being process properly. I can go to another lab which is Braintree but why should I go to another lab when my daughter had her appt at this location and she's been waiting for over 15 minutes. The Radiology Tech was helpful, Great Customer Service..
Fantastic experience: One of the best medical care providers here and the staff here is amazing! You won't get this type of care anywhere else. They have parking as well and everyone is always friendly...especially the Medical Assistants!
Fantastic experience: Free parking and not too far from my home.
Fantastic experience: Great doctor, hardly any waiting (less than 5 minutes), plenty of parking, convenient.
Positive experience: The people at check-in were rude. I asked for directions to the department I was there for as well as where the elevator was and the lady said go up there. Not a good look to a patient who is there for the first time
Fantastic experience: Excellent
Negative experience: Customer service is unacceptable. They do nothing for their patients. Yet again another terrible experience with Atrius Health specifically the OB/GYN department. Not only this location but Wellesley as well. I think Atrius Health across the board lacks so much in communication and putting the patient's needs first. Their response time when it comes to anything, is horrible, god forbid it be an urgent matter. I submitted paperwork on the 12th of July to be filled out to extend my maternity leave. I had not heard from the office for over a week so I followed up, since my job relied on this paperwork being submitted by my doctor. They finally got back to me on the 22nd...ten days later. I waited another few days for a response just to be denied of extra maternity leave time, even though I had a medical diagnosis that prevents me from going back to my job. My midwife, Molly Doyle, couldn't even call me herself to explain why she denied extending my leave. Instead the secretary gave me the sad excuse that they are only there "part time" so that's why my paperwork / denial took SO long. Healthcare isn't "part time" I will be taking myself and my family's care to an office that puts the patient's health and needs first. Like I said this is not the first issue I have had with urgent matters not being addressed. Atrius health that was your last chance.
Positive experience: They were nice and pleasant there.
Fantastic experience: Generally good services by the doctors and medical assistants. Ample parking and scenic location.
Fantastic experience: Great service and people. Staff always nice, patient and helpful. Clean and cheery facilities. Parking lot with abundant spaces.
Negative experience: Place is great and convenient. Staff is caring. I have to write review here not about this place but about dr. Navya Nambudiri working here. I tried to leave review on other websites but somehow it is impossible to do. Probably something done so that patients are not able to place negative ratings. I give one star ( would like to not give any) because this " primary dr" refused to spend a few min. of her "busy" time to make referral for urgent treatment for my father which could save his life. He passed away thanks to his "caring" primary doctor.
Fantastic experience: Love the fact that there's an optical shop/section right inside. Also, Dr. Karen from eye care is great and the lady from the optical shop is exceptional. She really got my son out of a bind when his glasses broke while waiting for the new prescription. My first time there bc I needed a same day emergency appointment and now this will be my new location for all things optical.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Ciccione is a really great guy! The staff is kind, it's clean and easy to get to.
Fantastic experience: Great service desk staff. Always pleasant. Pharmacy staff knows the customers by names! Love that!
Positive experience: Clean, well run facility. I was in and out for labs tests. My results were available so quickly too!
Positive experience: Plenty of parking.. Quick service
Fantastic experience: Clean, maintaining covid-19 precautions. No waiting.
Positive experience: Translate this opinion into the following languages: English (key: en)
Positive experience: Great place to purchase baby aspirin.
Fantastic experience: Typical Harvard Vanguard. Excellent physicians and staff.
Fantastic experience: Parking ️ location and Les traffic
Negative experience: Upper respiratory parking in back call when there! I was then able to enter the building from the rear after a nurse comes out without a Johnny on to walk us in passing everything and everyone to get on elevator! Not sure if this elevator was for upper respiratory only but if not I don’t understand why we park outback to be walking by everyone else that comes through the front? Once brought to a room upstairs the nurse comes back suites up Johnny gloves glasses, So if I did have COVID-19 why bring us through the back to use the elevator that everyone else uses and walk by everyone else? Why would a nurse come out in plain clothes without PPE yes she had a mask but just scared me when she came back all dressed up?! Maybe to not scare other patients??!? Waiting for 2 appointments in parking lot get a call my appointment is canceled
Fantastic experience: My health care service for 10 years. They saved my life twice.
Negative experience: No help
Negative experience: 12/30/2020 5:47pm called Harvard only to get redirected to “after hours, urgent care” asked the lady why I was redirected, as the time was 5:47 and they close at 6? She rudely said “NO, they close at 5!” Said something that it’s posted on the website, or on the phone for the hours.. which isn’t true. Says they close at 6. Completely rude and unprofessional.
Fantastic experience: The staff are great
Fantastic experience: Got my flu shot from my car. Great.
Fantastic experience: Excellent medical practice; multiple locations. Very high quality doctors, nurses and other medical personnel. Most locations have lab, x-ray and pharmacy services. Not all specialty services at every location. Extraordinary after hours triage program. Best in class
Positive experience: Good service....
Fantastic experience: I have been with HVMC for many years, and I’ve always been very satisfied with their services. I think my MDs are terrific!
Fantastic experience: I had to take my mother in to have her BP checked...We had to be screened prior to entering the building (The New Normal)...We then proceeded upstairs to see her Doctor...The place is spotless and they have plenty of hand sanitizers all over...The staff there are by far one of the best...Unfortunately, they are doing more with less staff because of Covid-19, but you wouldn't know it...I can't wait for flu season...lol...
Negative experience: I would not come to HVMA if I did not live across the street and did not have health concerns when I moved to Boston. The staff on the first floor has been rude every single time I visit, same with the staff in front of the Urology and Internal medicine depts. The workers (at HVMA) either ignore me or hit me with the "you must be in the wrong place" vibes. Some of you have never been greeted with a "dismissive" tone and it shows by the high star rating. But as a long-time Medicaid recipient I can assure you I have been treated poorly (pun intended). Now, I am a college professor and have private insurance, but this place is as cold as the worst free clinics I visited. Is it because I am a young adult? Is it because I am male? Is it because I am visibly healthy? Is it because I am Black? Do I look uninsured? I may just be sensitive, but bedside manner is super important to me. PCP Elizabeth Stankiewicz NP has tons of it (see her if you must go here). Unfortunately, I am on the hunt for a new PCP just to avoid the awkward treatment by the rest of the clinic staff. (Note: I only visited HVMA a total of 4 times for appointments in 1.5 years. Also note: they are currently closed due to COVID)
Hi Alan, We are very sorry to hear of these experiences and would like to learn more. Please call our corporate patient relations department at 617-559-8440 or email [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Pediatric department is great. Dr Brown always does a great job with my 2 year old. Could be in for a bit of a wait but that's time to enjoy the large aquarium in the waiting room.
Fantastic experience: Great parking.Nice up to date facility.Has all speciality kinds of Doctors.Easy to see from the VFW parkway.
Positive experience: They have urgent care
Positive experience: Nice doctors
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Great facility, staff is pleasant and on top of things.
Fantastic experience: I love this clinic; they have such warm and friendly staff!
Positive experience: Love the medical attention I get there
Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars I would. I have been a patient here my whole life (31 years) and over the past 5-6 years there has been a total decline in this place. First of all when seeing a doctor be prepared to wait and I mean if you have a 1030 appointment prepare to wait to be seen from anywhere between 1030-1130 because yah know people have nothing better to do with their days. Secondly the pharmacy. Be prepared to deal with some extremely rude people they don’t seem to ever know what they are talking about. I had a prescription due on a Monday and I’ve been told multiple times to call 24 hours in advance to ensure you prescription is ready. I called on Friday and was told it was too soon, you cannot call in on Saturday so I called on Monday. To which they told me my prescription was expired oh and no doctors were available to write a new prescription? Like what? Why wouldn’t the person on Friday tell me I would need a new prescription on Monday because it expired (which in my 14 years on this same medication, I have never heard of this) Just always a head ache coming here
Fantastic experience: That is where my pcp has her office.
Fantastic experience: Great service! Nada and Peter were awesome fixing my Mothers bent frames. 5 stars!
Positive experience: Primary care doctor
Fantastic experience: While I only visited this location once, it was a very pleasant visit even though I had to bring my 2 year old and he was a total nightmare. The staff was all so helpful in making sure he was entertained and they didn’t need to be. They could have just watched me struggle. But instead they offered us a coloring book and crayons, chased him around the halls and laughed with him.
Fantastic experience: Best quality service
Fantastic experience: FREE parking!
Fantastic experience: Great customer service everyone working here seems happy and calm
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and professional people. Always accommodating. I couldn't be happier with the service provided.
Negative experience: Appointments being cancelled by provider is becoming more common. People working there are friendly, butwill be seeking alternative
Fantastic experience: Awsome and quick services, friendly staff
Fantastic experience: My place for Health care.
Positive experience: The Somerville spot is quick the place was empty on the day we went and the service was great Dr Charles and his staff were so helpful with my wife.
Negative experience: I have been a patient of HVMA for over 30 years. The Customer service at West Roxbury, I will give a NEGATIVE 20 and that is being generous. The doctors/staff have no clue what bed side manners are..... I would definitely say GO SOMEWHERE ELSE even a Community Center will be better than going here.
Positive experience: Dr. is tremendous, I know and like her. She's overworked and overbooked so wait time is too long.
Fantastic experience: Great office staff with reliable medical services...
Fantastic experience: Nice service.
Negative experience: Takes forever to get an appointment with a specialist
Fantastic experience: Caring and thoughtful office with great doctors, support staff and administration.
Fantastic experience: Perfect place to go for appointments, they are always on time. I have been going to this place for years! I highly recommend just about everyone in my family goes here.
Positive experience: Good medical help.
Negative experience: I am very disappointed lately with this hospital. What started off so great in communication between staff, has turned to rudeness and bad service. My husband has called a few times to schedule an appointment after his surgery with his doctor he has no availability which I understand, but try to help your patience by accommodating them to see someone else in the same clinic. Don't just say " well there is no appointment call another clinic to see if they can help you" Really??? No one else there can squeeze us in or at least be more polite and not in a rude like way as if I am taking too much of your time. Another incident was the person that answered was just plain rude and didn't even try to put in our prescription after multiple times we called and confirmed it was faxed to the pharmacy nope never happen. We pay for insurance and it isn't cheap, give me good service. Now hubby wants to change his doctor and go somewhere else.
Hi Milly, Please contact our corporate patient relations department at 617-559-8440 so we can learn more about your experience.
Fantastic experience: I've been going to Harvard Vanguard for over 20 years. I love it.
Positive experience: Each visit is different! As a whole staff is courteous and helpful. Doctors seem over booked and exhausted. The atmosphere seems tense many the times in the departments I have visited.
Fantastic experience: My health center great service
Positive experience: Friend went there, she gives it 4 stars. She had a block of ear wax in her ear, they failed at removing it.
Fantastic experience: Been here for 23 years love my medical team
Fantastic experience: it provides the best details Routes, plus a few more other options to choose as well. i love it.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to this clinic since I was a kid, now I bring my kiddos there and let me tell you, best clinic bar none. Dr. Daley is the best pediatrician I could ever ask for. She is the doctor to all three of my kids, and I could never ask for more. The staff is wonderful and understanding to my two year old’s fear of strangers and tantrums. Always professional, courteous, and super friendly. Always free parking and good places to eat right beside the clinic. This place will always be my clinic!
Fantastic experience: Perfect care here
Fantastic experience: Been going here over 30 years
Fantastic experience: nice place. upscale care. they take great care of my bf.
Positive experience: The wait time has gotten much better, but you can still find yourself waiting 10-15 for a scheduled appointment.
Positive experience: Fast pace environment and great pediatricians
