Altitude Family & Internal Medicine: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I am SO appreciative of the extra time allotted to review what seemed out of sorts lately. I felt scattered in my thoughts conveying concerns, but Clay was patient and helpful in ensuring he "heard" what I was trying to convey. He normalized things that didn't feel quite normal in a way that was applicable and not dismissive in any way. Sharing some anecdotal thoughts was helpful too. He has a gift of being professional, thorough and personable. All concerns were addressed and I left feeling way better, with a plan in place moving forward.
Fantastic experience: Appointment schedule was right on time. Doc tana smith was objective fair and informative. She listened to my concerns and acted up on them very professionally. She handled my needs and prescribed the proper potential remedy. Good sense of humor and conversed on my level.
Fantastic experience: David is an amazing healthcare provider. He took the time to listen to my concerns and helped answer questions I didn't even know I had! I truly felt seen.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickell is the best! She really listens to you and works with you to make sure your whole health is a priority.

Fantastic experience: Annual physical. Dr T Smith was easy to work with, thorough and great coordinator of care!
Fantastic experience: Had my last minute visit with Alyssa and was thrilled with her. Her bedside manner with amazing, she was thorough and very personable.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Sartor is smart, pragmatic, empathetic, and patient focused. I never feel rushed, and always feel heard, even in this fast-paced healthcare world. The support staff is great, too! Plus, having a LabCorp on site is a huge benefit.
Fantastic experience: The physicians and PA's at Altitude are very compassionate people and we couldn't be more pleased with how our care has been handled. Dr. Sartor, Dr. Smith and P.A. Clay Whiddon are wonderful to work with. So glad we found a practice where everyone is genuinely cares!
Fantastic experience: Clay very knowledgeable and was a great listener. Recommended a course of action to treat my severe pain issue and lack of being able to use my leg. Felt very confident in his recommendations. Clay also had a personable demeanor.

Fantastic experience: She listens and spends time with you. She is very capable and a superior Dr.
Fantastic experience: Everyone was friendly and helpful. My husband and I were very impressed with Dr. Nickell. She helped me at the time of our first visit! So happy we are accepted is new patients.
Negative experience: I went to see my primary care physician for pain in my abdominal area more specific to my lower ribs which I have had prior stage 4 cancer of my Bladder. Unfortunately (the MD) was busy and was not available so I was sent to a PA named David Battiste within the same practice, Altitude Family & Internal medicine. David a PA was going to call in a prescription and a CT scan for me in the area of concern. I called my pharmacy and he had not called in my prescription as he wrote down and promised that he would. there was plenty of time since the pharmacy is open till 9pm and they close at 5pm. I left messages prior to the closing explaining my concern that the prescription was not called in to the Pharmacy. I left 2 messages, one after hours also with the MA on the voice mail they provide as they don't answer ever and leave you to a computer to direct your message. I am very disappointed and hurting as he had not called in my prescription as promised and was needed in a timely manner since my condition was getting worse. I will be going to the ER now to get the help I need for the prescription. A similar failure of care incident happened (Altitude Family & internal medicine) last year when a lady named Summer failed to provide me a prescription and scan (who is David Battiste MA) and consequently didn't help either for my condition which led concluded with surgery of my vertebrae with 2 discs replaced eventually following an ER visit and MRI scan at the ER. This has cost my insurance company thousands of unnecessary expenses and suffering for myself. I would highly advise that you only see an MD and not this team at this practice.
Fantastic experience: Dr Sartor is absolutely marvelous. I went to her as a new patient concerned about lack of energy, and she went above and beyond to help uncover underlying issues that would have been dire if missed. She never makes me feel as though my concerns are invalid and patiently and very thoroughly goes through a matter of elimination to ensure I have the best care and team possible. So very grateful to be her patient and in such good hands.
Fantastic experience: Very caring visit from both Brittany and Dr. Nickels. Was pleased to be able to get in quickly on a cancelation.
Fantastic experience: Pleasant individuals and the doctors and medical assistants allow you to ask questions or share your concerns.
Fantastic experience: Clay was personable, friendly and easy to talk to. He answered all my questions clearly and concisely.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickell and her team are exemplary. I have never been so impressed with a provider. At the risk of sounding cliche, Dr. Nickell actually takes time to truly listen and has a genuine interest in her patients' well being. And her support team is responsive and efficient in addition to being lovely human beings. Will has been especially helpful and supportive through medication changes. I just cannot say enough good things about this office: highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Excellent experience. She provided the care I needed.
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed my meeting with Dr. Nickell and her staff. I'm a new patient to the office. Dr. Nickell had reviewed my health questionnaire before the appointment, and covered the major concerns I had in a thorough manner. I also like that the appointment desk made it clear that the Preventive Visit that's covered by insurance is actually split into 2 visits, and that the patient is responsible for paying at least the copay for one of them. And with the time and thoroughness that Dr. Nickell and the checkups she had me done even during the 'Establishing Care' session, it's worth it!
Fantastic experience: I had an initial visit with Dr. Nickell for primary care and found her to be refreshingly friendly and easy-going. She is knowledgeable and confident and expressed a genuine interest in my concerns. She was careful to address the most urgent ones first. Then she took steps to develop a plan for addressing the lower-level, long-term issues next. I appreciate the fact that her practice handles lab work in-house. It was also vital to me that Dr. Nickell does Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy (OMT). This is exceedingly hard to find today - an osteopathic physician who will do both primary care and OMT. It's not the high-velocity, high impact type of OMT to which I'm accustomed. It's an easy, gentler version that uses natural energy from normal muscle movement. Even though I went to Dr. Nickell for an initial visit, I've decided that this will be my new home for primary healthcare. I endorse her highly!
Fantastic experience: David was excellent - thorough, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. He is also a good communicator.
Fantastic experience: Dr Nickell is always thorough and kind.
Positive experience: So far have had amazing treatment with the care team at Altitude! First visit with Dr.Whiddon today and was pleased. He was understanding of my needs and open to my thoughts and opinions on my course of treatment. Overall looking forward to continuing care with him and the team at Altitude family internal medicine
Fantastic experience: Clay was personable, genuinely interested in my health concerns and proactive about solutions. I haven't had this experience for a long time so that felt like a relief in many ways.
Fantastic experience: In Dr Nickell, you will find it hard to find a more kind and caring physician. Being likely one of her most challenging patients, I can attest to her diligence as well. I am so thankful she has been a huge part of an uphill battle with my health for over a decade.
Fantastic experience: He listened, was sympathetic, understanding, thorough and gave valuable advice.
Fantastic experience: I had my first annual check up with Dr. Rebecca Nickell. I was very pleased with the time and complete focus she placed on my healthcare, along with a printed report and possible solutions I was given.
Fantastic experience: I needed to find a primary care DO and I went to see Rebecca Nickell today. Not only did she help this White Coat Disease patient feel comfortable, I was pleasantly surprised as how I related to her. She was kind, professional, thorough and really made me feel relieved that I found her! Thank you Dr. Nickell for seeing me today and I look forward to having you in my corner building a Doctor/Patient relationship. Thank you for easing my WCD!
Negative experience: Unacceptable lack of communication. I am a new patient with Altitude and my initial visit was fine. The PA recommended medicine and I said I wanted to look into it more, before I decide. They said that’s fine, just let me know when you’re ready and I’ll call it in. That was over a week ago and I have tried several times to contact the office, as I am looking to try this medicine. They don’t answer the phone, they don’t call you back, they force you to use a messaging system that they don’t respond to and you can’t email them. I still haven’t heard a word. I’ve never experienced a doctor’s office that cared less about a patient. I am trying to fill a prescription, in order to feel better and they will not get back to me to follow through on their own recommendation.
Fantastic experience: I have the utmost confidence in Clay. He listened and addressed everything I asked with thoughtfulness and details. I would highly recommend him!!
Fantastic experience: I met Doctor Nickell for the first time today and I was put at ease right away by her warm and welcoming personality. I felt encouraged and reassured by her and did not feel rushed or uncomfortable in any way.
Fantastic experience: My visit with Dr. Ashleigh Sartor at Altitude Family & Internal Medicine was a very positive experience. The staff at Altitude is friendly and efficient and I felt very welcome.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Rebecca Nickell is hands down the best primary care doctor I've ever had. She spends time with you to listen to your concerns, discuss options, and explain everything in detail. She is exremely knowledgeable and is equally caring. The fact that she also does osteopathic manipulative therapy is an added bonus; she has helped me tremendously with back issues. Very highly recommend her and this practice.
Fantastic experience: Katie is the best! She actually listened to my concerns and was patient while we did some troubleshooting to find the right prescription. On top of that, her personality is so encouraging and she is quick to answer my questions and see me via tele-health appointment. 10/10 would recommend.
Fantastic experience: Summer Irelan’s demeanor is highly professional yet cordial. She confidently demonstrates her depth of knowledge with every vist. And continually addresses my questions/concerns in a compassionate and clear way. One her most refreshing attributes is how straightforward she is without being offensive. In my opinion, full transparency is crucial for a health professional to have with their patients. I found that in Summer Irelan.
Fantastic experience: By far one of the best docs I've had. Working in healthcare I know the can be short. Dr. Nickell doesn't make you feel that way though. Very through and kind. If you want a well rounded physician who sees you as a person book her before she has no more availability!
Fantastic experience: Easy to schedule an appointment. Pre-appointment items were straight to the point and I was in an out without any needed questions.
Fantastic experience: Working with Clay is great. Timely appointment, quick lab work, seems attentive and cares about your health. Recommend!
Fantastic experience: My experience with Clay has been very positive. He instills confidence with his thorough review of lab work and professional diagnosis of health conditions. I have no hesitation in recommending Clay as your health care provider.
Fantastic experience: Clay is both professional and personable. He is patient and thorough in addressing my health concerns. He gave me a simple and easy plan for me to improve my health and scheduled a follow-up appointment to measure the improvement. I feel fully confident with his care.
Fantastic experience: My experience here was amazing and a night and day difference from my previous PCP office. Everyone cares which is hard to find in the health care industry lately. I recommend 100%
Positive experience: After a few years of searching for a Doctor in the area, I think I've found one. Dr. Nickell, listened to what I said have me feedback on what she would modify and stated that "we" meaning the tow of us would work together to find out how to get my best care. Thank you Dr. Nickell for listening and demonstrating respect back to me. Additionally this was our initial office visit.
Fantastic experience: " your one of those patients that later today I'll be falling asleep on top a textbook" Yup, genuine physician that I hope to be in touch with for the foreseeable future until I'm all better -Clay was my physician
Negative experience: I went there for about 5 years. I had 4 different providers during that time. Way, way too much turnover and they don't notify if the provider left. You find out when your refills run out and then you have to scramble to get an appointment to get refills. The only way to get refills is to schedule an appointment, otherwise they are too disorganized to refill the prescriptions with unreturned phone calls. My new provider is soooooo much better and efficient. You've been forewarned.
Negative experience: Had a pretty awful experience with this doctors office, been coming here for years and always had great experiences. So this really came as a surprise. I think an establishment like this can be judged upon the times when they are really needed the most, when the patient is going through something so awful and when they're number is called you can judge them by how they respond. My youngest daughter had been in the Pediatric ICU for a few days, at one point literally clinging to life. An awful experience for us to say the least(she is pulling through now thank god). She was diagnosed with Strep Group A that spread to her lungs and caused serious pneumonia. This is a specific Group A strand that is very nasty, the Infectious Disease Expert at children's ordered my entire family to go on a 5 day regimen of prophylactic antibiotics(amoxicillin). My wifes doctor prescribed this on the phone without issue, my oldest daughters office prescribed this on the phone without issue. I left two voicemails expressing my urgency with Altitude over the course of 2 days, they didn't even call me back. When they finally called me back I was told I'd need to be seen by a doctor. I can't leave my childs bedside in the ICU and they couldn't even understand that stating their "policy". I own a business, we have policies too but when someone needs us we make sure we're there for OUR PEOPLE. I joined my wifes clinic and they promptly jumped on a zoom call and got me what I needed so I could stay healthy and be with my daughter who needs me. So disappointed in Altitude, they should be ASHAMED of themselves. ASHAMED. I hope they read this and reassess what their core values are and why they exist. I'll never return and I'll make sure anyone I know that I've referred there never returns as well.
Fantastic experience: Rebecca performs a thorough review of tests and provides options for treatments. She keeps my goals in mind and recommends strategies helpful in achieving my goal.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickell listens very well to any concerns and answers in a thoughtful manner. She is easy to speak with and does not brush aside your questions. She is pleasant, professional, helpful and caring.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickell was excellent! She is my elderly mother's doctor and demonstrates such care and concern - something that is usually missing in this field; especially with the elderly. Thank you for listening and acknowledging her, while also providing a helpful path forward.
Fantastic experience: This was my first seeing Dr Nickell. I left my appointment feeling informed and satisfied that my needs were met. I’m looking forward to continuing care with this Doctor.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Clay Whiddon was great. I feel like I met a friend as well as a great physician I can trust. Much appreciated.
Fantastic experience: Just moved here from MA wife and I were looking for a new Dr., we found the perfect place Altiude Family &Internal Medicine. Dr Nickell is the best….she spent an hour with me just talking about previous medical issues. Thanks Doc!!!!!
Fantastic experience: Dr. R. Nickell and team are wonderful. Dr. Nickell listens and never hurries. It’s a very comfortable atmosphere. I’d recommend anyone to Dr. Nickell if they prefer not being hurried and treated like a number.
Negative experience: I found this medical through Tricare search, and I wish I read all of the reviews! I am a NEW PATIENT, and I was originally scheduled for 3:40pm, but then called and emailed and texted to come in earlier at 3:20pm, they left a voicemail, and even without me confirming I received an email now confirming my NEW RESCHEDULED appointment time is set for 3:20pm. I still tried to call back to confirm that I would make it by or before 3:20 no problem, I also texted. So, I arrived at 3:05pm, but went to wrong office on first level, and then made it into Altitude location upstairs at 3:10, I signed in AND understanding that BOTH front desk were on the phone, never seeming to get off the phone at all, I tried checking twice standing and waiting for one of them to at least just acknowledge me at all, to see if I was signing in properly and all that; but NO, so I sat down. The sign says let them know if you wait longer than 15min (from scheduled Appt time), so as it was over 15min (it was 3:40pm), actually 20min beyond my scheduled Appt time, I waited at the front desk, looking at both front desk ladies and still NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AT ALL, but what triggered me even more, a guy walked in and the right side front desk clerk not only ACKNOWLEDGED HIM when he walked in, she told him to sign in, and told him sorry for the wait, they will get to him as soon as possible! I looked at her WONDERING IF I AM INVISIBLE!?! Still nothing, so much that I literally turned around away from them and back to my seat where I left my bag, grabbed it, and took a picture of the sign-in sheet (showing that I signed in at 3:10 for 3:20 appointment; with a person signed in AFTER ME- the other person signed in at 3:19, with a 3:20 appt and was already taken back; I snapped the photo at 3:43pm)! This is sad, very sad. I just moved to Colorado, this would have been my first medical visit here, and I have never in my life ever had this kind of lacking service or acknowledgment, I have never written a bad review on any medical service ever in my life, but I am so turned off by this encounter!!! I am just outside of their office in the elevator lobby sitting area writing this, and this just ruined my day!!!
Fantastic experience: Lindsey thoroughly went through my medical history. When presented with labs I had previously had done thru another office, she was knowledgeable on the next steps to assess my elevated numbers. I felt validated and understood. I am glad I made the change. The support staff was friendly and quick.
Fantastic experience: Great clinic. I’ve been coming here for several years and have seen most of the providers. I appreciate they will try to squeeze you in same day if you’re sick. Love Lindsey. She clearly cares about her patients and is okay problem solving WITH me. I appreciate she takes the time to actually listen to my concerns before making recommendations and is happy to discuss what works best for me.
Fantastic experience: Friendly, helpful and caring staff make all the difference when choosing a healthcare provider. Everyone at Altitude Family is consistently amazing at making me feel welcome and valued.
Positive experience: Lindsay was very conscientious and checked more than my blood pressure. She looked at my blood test results and ordered another test of my blood.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Sartor spends time to ensure anything and everything is addressed. I moved to her over the last year from another doctor and her service/care is so much better than my previous experiences.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickell was very good. Explained my labs very clearly.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickel is always compassionate, knowledgeable and listens carefully to concerns. Always willing to work with you to determine the best course of treatment in respect to any patient input and what is best for healthcare outcomes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickell is such a caring practitioner. Asks so many questions about general mental and physical health. Great attention!
Fantastic experience: I was supposed to have an appointment about an ongoing issue when I tested positive for Covid. The office was able to switch it to a video call quickly so I still got to talk with the Dr and get some advice about Covid.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickell was patient, kind, took the time to explain and answer questions, and she truly listened and engaged with me.
Fantastic experience: Continuing great care from David Battiste - I appreciate his professionalism, knowledge, and outstanding interpersonal skills.
Fantastic experience: Physicians are always on time or within a few minutes of the scheduled appointment time. Staff personnel are always extremely friendly and courteous, making scheduling appointments a breeze.
Fantastic experience: I'm very grateful for Dr. Nickell. She genuinely cares & listens. She also explains what she's thinking and why as she gives her opinion & treatment plan which I really like. This is the best primary doc I've ever had. I've been with her for well over a year now & she's just fantastic.
Negative experience: I do not recommend this practice as over the years it has drastically gone downhill in basic patient care & service and their billing is a nightmare!! I've been trying to reach the office and local billing team to correct my bill for months. They say they will work on correcting the issue but after 4 months there has not been any follow through or even a follow up response from anyone. The only response I receive is the automated one from the patient portal. It's a shame because I really liked my doctor and her team but this is not worth the mental anguish in return for care from anyone. They didn't share any results from any of my labs, I had to follow up to get my results and interpret them or schedule another expensive appointment to have the doctor tell me in on what the numbers mean.
Negative experience: My wife has had 3 PCPs that she really liked and trusted leave in the last 18 months. Each transition has had problems especially with prescription refills. Even though I spoke directly to the practice manager about our concerns they are happening again. Their systems don’t provide effective support for clinicians or communications to patients.
Fantastic experience: Andrea was wonderful. She explained what she was going to do next, what her thought process was and had realistic & helpful recommendations.
Negative experience: I’ve been bounced around to so many PAs since I started going here. I had one that I really liked and wasn’t even informed when she left. I also wonder if there are any doctors at all? I’ve never been seen by one. My last appointment was with Andrea and when she came into the room she informed me that I had too many concerns and that she didn’t have time for all of them. (There were three issues and one of them was a simple Rx refill.) she scheduled a telehealth appointment the following week with me for lab results that she didn’t show up to and I received a text after 25 minutes of sitting in the video chat waiting for her that she wasn’t coming. Reception staff is rude. I won’t be going back.
Fantastic experience: I appreciate Dr. Sartor listening to my concerns and making a plan to address these concerns. Dr. Sartor is patient and seems to be genuinely concerned for me. Her staff is professional in manner, skill and efficiency.
Fantastic experience: A very pleasant experience. All my questions were answered. Dr. Sartar was very helpful and caring. Dr Sartar's nurse was helpful as well. The staff was also. Thank-You. I do not want my comments made public. Thank-You Kathleen O'Hearn
Fantastic experience: I feel I'm getting comprehensive, informed medical care.
Negative experience: I used to love this office. But this recent visit has been a nightmare. I saw Andrea and have been tossed around without being told anything. She ordered tests with a separate imaging facility without telling me or without my consent, and it wasn't even for anything I even went in for!!! Also, on first visit I had multiple questions and issues and only 1 was addressed, and that was after having to pry the information out of them. Now that I have some information on what she found, I was left a confusing message after business hours via text with a diagnosis, and then she has the next day off. So, now I'm scared about what I was told in the text and have a ton of questions, but I can't ask them! I'm used to bad doctors offices, but this last experience sets a new standard for bad. This is completely unacceptable. Finding a new Doctor office as soon as possible.
Fantastic experience: I just had an appointment today with specific testing/exams that I was really nervous about. I usually see Alana Neiford (who is great), but I saw Andrea Ostrom for this appointment. I cannot explain to you how comfortable she made me. She didn’t rush me at all. She explained the process to me before, during so I understood, and after since these exams/tests were new to me. She calmed my nerves immediately. I’ve never had a bad experience. Plus, props to the administrative staff. They’re incredibly patient and competent. They are extremely fast about scheduling and referrals. I highly recommend this place if you want to feel like you’re really being heard and taken care of empathetically and never feeling rushed.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Sartor is just great! She is so supportive and easy to talk to even when it is things that are uncomfortable. I highly recommend her. The whole office is awesome!
Fantastic experience: David took time to listen and answer all my questions. I was able to get an appointment right away today.
Fantastic experience: Dr Sartor is amazing. She’s attentive, kind and caring. So happy I found her and her team at Altitude Family!
Fantastic experience: Dr. Nickell is a caring, listening helpful primary care doc. I am happy to have found her.
Negative experience: STAY AWAY ! Went in for an annual physical. The billed my insurance as an office visit leaving me with a $190 bill. The never explained that the initial visit would be an office visit and billed differently when I made an appointment for an Annual Physical. The physical consisted of Blood Pressure check, heart rate, then the Dr. listened to my lungs and felt my stomach. That was it. Worst physical ever. Most of the visit was a sales gimmick telling me about homeopathic medicine and what they provide. I will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone.
Fantastic experience: I switched to this practice after my former doctor retired. I have found a practice and doctor that cares, is friendly, and thoughtful. I felt like my concerns were listened to and handled effectively. I am excited to have a doctor I fell very comfortable with.
Fantastic experience: Taylor responded to an after-hours call and was knowledgeable, thorough and kind. He addressed and took care of my immediate medical problem. He scheduled a video follow-up call the following day to make sure the treatment was working. Thank you for the excellent medical care, Taylor!
Fantastic experience: Alana was fantastic - she listened to my concern and was very kind and compassionate with her treatment. She took the time needed and made sure all my questions were answered. Great experience & I recommend her. The front desk staff was also great - very friendly and scheduled my appointment as soon as possible.
Positive experience: Great personal service from Taylor, answered all my questions, the only problem was the wait . I waited 45 minutes from my appointment time. But I know that Taylor goes above and beyond so I was happy with the wait
Fantastic experience: The staff is very professional. My provider was very thorough. He made sure to address any and all medical issues I brought to the table with detailed explanations. I highly recommend this practice.
Fantastic experience: Taylor and the staff were very professional and prompt. Our family has gone to other primary care docs in the past and it is always like pulling teeth to have referrals actually sent. At this office the referrals were called in the same day, the scheduling office for the referred specialist called to schedule within 3 hours of our leaving Altitude. We're very happy to have found a good family practice.
Fantastic experience: The staff was great. They were able to set up a tele-medicine appointment quickly so I could get the necessary referral to a specialist. Very personable and professional staff.
Fantastic experience: Clay, is attentive to all your concerns and spends time with you to explain things so it makes sense.
Fantastic experience: I've been going to Altitude Family for over 12 years. Taylor Simons is my current provider. I am always able to get in quickly and their text system works great for fast response. Taylor is always caring, listens to what is going on with my health concerns, offers advice on bettering and maintaining the best health practices for me. I would highly recommend them and do. Laura W-Johnson
Fantastic experience: Alana was awesome. This was my second time seeing her for an injury. She's was always mindful and careful not to hurt me during examinations. Highly recommend her!
