Negative experience: If it has a zero star option, I would give you that. I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with the repeated unprofessional behavior of one of your front desk employees. I just followed your rule. Before I went the Yoga class I scanned my membership card and the lady yelled at me in fornt of people' HEY, MA’AM WE WERE DOING SOMETHING' so when she is doing something, I couldn't , shouldn't use the scaner? Still, I don't know what was wrong.

Fantastic experience: Great gym basketball courts are good and pool is nice and even has a indoor track

Fantastic experience: This is a great place for families to exercise together. There is more variety than you might think. There are a few basketball courts. The volleyball courts are only open on Mondays. But overall, it is a good place to do a variety of sports.

Negative experience: The posted hours are never followed. They close early randomly by several hours. Do not recommend going in the evening ever.

Negative experience: Today on September 30, 2024, I was scammed by this facility. I arrived at 3 pm, and told the person at the front desk I was there to swim for a few hours. They failed to tell me they would be restricting all but 2 (already occupied) lanes at 4 pm for a childrens swim class, so I went ahead and bought my ticket. After getting to use the pool for only an hour, I was told I would not be able to use the lane anymore. They offered no other option or alternative, so I was left with no choice but to leave early. I called back a bit after leaving to request a refund, and even said I would be fine with only a partial refund. The person who answered the phone did what they could, but their manager denied my refund, despite them unfairly cutting my time short with no prior warning. I will not be returning to this shady, poorly managed facility, and I highly recommend anyone else to avoid this place as well.

Fantastic experience: The outdoor pools are a little pricey but worth it. Great place for littles up to about 12 years old. Don't know about the other facilities but the building is very new and well kept.

Fantastic experience: This is a great facility for everyone. Be advised that this place is exclusive only to McKinney residents and their friends. The outdoor water park has everything you need as does the gym and natatorium. All pools are salt water and the sauna is nice and hot and there day care available up to two hours a day. The whole place is staffed with an abundance of employees. Don’t miss this if you live in McKinney the family rate is phenomenal.

Negative experience: So me and my friends were trying to teach one of our friends to swim in the lap pool. My friend almost drowns and is holding on to the pool border to not drown. And this life guard called Will comes over and tells us to not hold on to the border and that he's been keeping an eye on us the whole time. So he should have seen my friend struggling to stay afloat and nearly drown. But no he does this again before telling us to get out.

Fantastic experience: Awesome Gym, awesome pools and great for the whole family!

Positive experience: The indoor gym was great and the pool was fun I had rented out the place for me and my friends but going there during public hours is also fun but the line is so long.

Negative experience: I am asking for more leg machines since one year ago I cannot believe that you have only one machine for each exercise

Positive experience: Great gym unless you want to squat... firstly the squat racks have no mirror making it impossible to see a safe and optimal depth, and secondly only two of the racks are even worth using, the new racks are difficult to adjust and constantly get jammed. Other than that no complaints.

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of having a personal tour given by Lisa. This place is huge, clean and very family friendly environment. There’s something for everyone!

Negative experience: I paid $156 and didn't get to use it even once. There's nothing to do if you have 12-year-old kids. Swim in the pool is the only they can offer. They don't fully explain their policy. What a waste of time and money. The smell of chemicals is awful in the pool area! A lot of fake reviews!

Positive experience: Facility is fine - often overrun by teenagers, but equipment is fairly decent. However, as others have stated, management and customer service are non existent. My family and I left town for several months and Apex has the option to freeze your account if you're not using the facility. What I wasn't told at the time of freezing, but the manager happily pointed was 'in the documentation' after the fact, is that you have to unfreeze your membership before your initial paid period runs out. So if you start a membership on July 1st and you end up freezing, you have to unfreeze before the following July 1st - which, if I'm freezing (and you have to pay to freeze) what's the point of the freeze? Just felt like they were happy to let my membership expire without anything verbally stated, just pointing to 'that's what it says in the pamphlet' after the fact. As a Mckinney resident I don't really feel the sense of community that the Mckinney Rec Center should offer, but hey I guess I'm just another number to them. When asked for options to help alleviate the fact i pre-paid a year's family membership and wasn't even in Texas to unfreeze, I was given a shrug. It feels incredibly predatory that I was given no options. But they happily took my 12 months of money for 6 months of use!

Positive experience: Please do you research before patronizing the local parks and facilities. My family and I were in town visiting from the state of Georgia to participate at a sporting event at the PSA/Nesbitt location. During a break in our schedule, I chose to take my youngest, an elementary age child to the water park. Unbeknownst to us, this facility is only accessible to city residents and their guests. Fortunately, one of the staff members was kind enough to assist me. We traveled to another water park in the area that was accessible to everyone.

Fantastic experience: I had my first training session with Kat today and WOW!!! Her attitude is so positive and encouraging. I thoroughly enjoyed the hour while being pushed. I cannot wait for my next session. Kat also showed me what a great community is within the Apex.

Negative experience: Unethical/predatory policies. I signed up for an annual membership, paid upfront and they waived the $75 signing fee because I am a disabled veteran. An hour later, first day in the gym their told me I was required to wear closed toe shoes at all times in the weight room because I don’t wear shoes when dead lifting. I didn’t want to argue or make a scene so I politely asked to cancel the membership. They told me they would keep the first month’s membership fee, allow me access to the facility for the month and reimburse the rest of the year’s membership fees. Sounds fair. 3 hours later they called me and said they were keeping the first month’s fee, and an additional $75 for the initial new member fee even though I didn’t have to pay it, and they will also cancel access to the facility immediately. Essentially they charged me $150 to use the weight room once. This is unethical/predatory. Currently collecting information for litigation against them.

Fantastic experience: Apex center has a good family swim area. It's lit off fun for kids. The bathrooms are clean.

Negative experience: Child care is negligent. My three-year-old child was locked in a bathroom because he had had a “bathroom accident“. The door was shut and employees were not anywhere near the door. Just left him screaming for 15 minutes!!!!!!. They couldn’t find me because the information about where I would be working out was on his sticker, which was LOCKED IN THE BATHROOM WITH HIM!!!!! By the time I got to him, he had no idea why he was locked in a bathroom all by himself. He was SHAKING and hysterically crying, snot everywhere, and so confused and scared! I am absolutely appalled that they could do this to a 3 year old child. He had absolutely no idea what was going on. What if there had been a fire? Would they just leave my child locked in that bathroom? What if he had fallen down? Would they just leave him by himself bleeding until they found me?! I have no confidence that Apex Center can take care of children after what I just saw. I will be reporting this to the state. Absolutely negligent! I would never recommend the Kid Care here. Absolutely appalling. He has not stopped crying and has snot in his hair, and in his eyebrows from being left in that bathroom scared and alone. He was shaking and screaming with snot falling to the floor —- that’s how I found my baby! No workers near the door, no one checking on my 3 year old! I am appalled and my child was traumatized. Childcare should not be offered here if this is what they do to 3 year olds. Reporting to the state. No safety protocols. I am appalled

Positive experience: The gym equipment is modern, and the pool area is well-maintained. However, the facility can get crowded during peak hours, leading to longer wait times for equipment and classes. Additionally, the membership fees are on the higher side. Overall, it's a satisfactory option for staying active, but improvements in crowd management and pricing would enhance the experience.

Negative experience: My yearly membership; when I purchased it, your staff provided me with incorrect information leading me can't cancel the membership as promised. Then I was suggested freeze my account. My account should be unfrozen before it expires to extend the remaining nine months. Today at Apex, I was told I need to pay for 6 months of freeze fees, and they can only extend it for 3 months until August. Additionally, I have to pay the membership fee for the extended 3 months. In the meantime, I paid for 12 months. Furthermore, do I need to pay for 6 months of freezing fees, in addition to the 3 months for the extended membership fee? So, what is the purpose of freezing? My yearly membership fee is a one-time payment for 12 months. Freezing the account incurs a $10 monthly freeze fee, and when unfrozen, shouldn't my membership extend the unused 9 months? This is truly frustrating. If your policies are constantly changing, and decisions seem arbitrary, please refund my fees.

Positive experience: The deadlifting platform has been gone for weeks now and it gets very crowded but the machines are good and clean but need more benches.

Fantastic experience: Awesome rec center with great amenities. Very comparable to allen or plano rec centers. The Mckinney rec centers are double the price though.

Positive experience: Large facility with tons of fitness equipment and two large pools. Memberships are rather pricey and the lap lane availability is not overly accommodating during the weekdays.

Negative experience: Cancelled my membership due to a move, and instead of letting me know that I still owed some money on my account they just put me in collections. Trash customer service.

Fantastic experience: I have a membership at this gym and I enjoy going whenever I have time. You have access to any type of classes and you are able to use the pool and many more opportunities with a membership. This is the first gym that I have been to the most. I definitely recommend if anyone is looking to buy a gym membership here except it does not open overnight.

Negative experience: Instead of cleaning and maintaining the Apex centre, the place feels like Alcatraz with staff acting as security guards doing rounds with no training, no resources, and no documented incident response plan. It's pretty uncomfortable to be observed all the time.

Fantastic experience: Great facility for group classes, workouts. Has a play room for the kids. Swim classes both for Members and non members at additional costs.

Positive experience: It's alright gets boring after going to it many times but still pretty decent. People here are fairly nice. The issue is sometimes people bring water guns or play fight and it gets in the way of others.

Negative experience: Beware with the administration. We asked for a cancellation and even after multiple confirmations from the staff we are still getting charged for next month and cancellation is nowhere to be found. Basically billing us for two extra months as the new cancellation requires a 30 day notice per their policy.

Negative experience: Cable cross machine has been broken for over a month now. All of the tools for the other cable pull machines were made by colonial settlers who arrived on the Mayflower. They will shut down the sauna and the indoor pools at their leisure. Additionally, this is the best gym to visit if you have an entire day and no agenda for your work out, because there will be some man conducting a conference call on a piece of equipment for 45 minutes that he is not using. **Update- Thanks for the response, I understand how the other equipment works. It was commentary on a popular machine being broken, not a cry for help. I also am missing the correlation between shutting down of 2 pools and a sauna with soliciting job applications and providing a website. Your staff told me it was maintenance (workers were present)- which could have been done during off hours (of which you have many - your hours are not competitive for the price point).

Positive experience: Swimming pool..wow..indoor as well as outdoor. Only regret is timing. They should open it until 10 pm. Gym btw is open until 9 in summers. But the indoor leisure pool closes at 8 which is not even sunset in summers. Otherwise the facility is an awesome place. In summers they offer everyday swim and other classes for kids.

Fantastic experience: Best place in McKinney for family recreation and work out. My kids like to go here for swimming in the pool. Life guards are always on duty and actively monitoring.

Fantastic experience: So much fun -aside from the meltdown from our 36 inch 3-year-old who was beyond disappointed that he couldn't ride the big slides! We got a day pass for $35 for the whole day. We will definitely get a memnership next year!

Positive experience: We joined this summer. So far the only thing that bothers us is the inconsistent rules the lifeguards have. One will be fine with something then they rotate and the next one isn't ok with stuff kids are doing. Also after today with bad weather outside, (which we understand that part) it was once we went inside it was "exercise only" for the inside pool. They were waiting for a lifeguard for the splash pad area on the inside but then all of a sudden kids weren't allowed to play on it because it was exercise only time. Yet the young life guards don't speak up, they wait until kids are on it to say something. Kids weren't allowed to splash or do anything basically since it was exercise time. I understand there are times for certain age groups but when the entire outside pool is closed we feel some things like the inside splash pad should be opened. And after looking at their hours exercise only is 4:30 am to noon. I think they could have done something because of the lighting for the younger kids to play. Cause it also says 10 years or older only during these times. Thankfully the one lifeguard admitted that communication is a problem with all the new hires.

Negative experience: Got to the water park to swim at 10. Was told by the attendant "members only from 10-12" ok, that's fine I understand. We will come back at 12. Get there at 12 for the same lady to tell me "oh you need to go inside and make an account". Why didn't you tell me that the first time so now I didn't have to wait behind this long line? There was a long line behind me as well.

Fantastic experience: I’ve worked out here for almost a year now and this place is amazing, it’s very clean, has a great pool, and state-of-the-art equipment

Fantastic experience: Summer means SOOO MUCH FUN here that it should be called the Yay-pex Center. As of May 27th, thw outdoor pools are open! They've got member pricing, one time visit pricing, local.resident discounts, and family pricing. For the 5 of us, the family member pricing is a steal! This place has amenities GALORE. Outdoor pools include kids splash area, basketball, lazy river, sun deck, wide slide, 4 waterside, and a separate toddler area. There are bathrooms, changing/shower area, first aide and a few necessities for sale (for when you forget to bring sunscreen etc). They've got a billion lifeguards out here, a billion lounge chairs and umbrellas, and cabanas for rent. Another bonus: Kona Ice snowcones for sale. That's just the outside! Inside there are more pools, another water slide, diving board, water ninja course, kids splash area, and more bathrooms/lockers. Along with all this, you visit or membership includes access to the full gym, basketball courts, track, babysitting room, classes, kids camp and more. We love the Apex year round, but especially during summer. Pro tip: keep an eye out for their special events. The movie nights in the pools are a FANTASTIC family event. We bring a picnic and friends and have a great time. See you there!

Fantastic experience: This place is amazing, everything you ever need is within this facility. No regrets in joining, The cleanliness is top notch, equipment's are excellent. Basketball court is amazing which is the favorite place of my son, pool as well both indoor and out.

Negative experience: Me and wife went here for the first time this afternoon which it looked really nice and we figured we would eventually take our daughter some day, before we did choose to come here I did look at all the rules so we didn’t have any problems at all, everything was fine we are not members so we paid for the non member ship so after completing everything we went swimming and we we’re enjoying ourselves until 45 minutes later the guards switch shifts and came up to me and my wife that we need to stop kissing and being upon each other because it’s one of there rules, which we we’re actually trying to discuss what we were cooking for dinner and it was very loud in there which obviously it would be loud, i couldn’t find this rule on the website at all but I do know that we will not be back since they made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed

Fantastic experience: The reason I chose to join the Apex Center was due to their vast water aerobic class offerings. Plus, they have all the other things a typical gym would offer, in addition to basketball courts, outdoor pool (with slides), scheduled classes - cycling, pilates, yoga, HITT, circuit, etc. There is something for everyone.‍♀️⛹️‍♀️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️

Negative experience: More restrictions on leisure pools. Membership is costlier for the limited equipment and facilities. Not a member friendly space..

Fantastic experience: Great place for exercise and swimming. It has more than 10 laps in the exercise pool and as deep as 8 feet. Also, it has leisure pool. Great place for young kids to learn swimming.

Negative experience: DFW weather - most businesses closed for two days. Absolutely ridiculous closing for three days! Then, don't even reopen, for normal business hours, on the fourth day. Every other gym has been open already (on day three). This is after closing for two days the first week of the New Year (for training)! I can't be the only upset member...

Negative experience: Update: I have to change my review from 2 star to 1 star for a few reasons that I have experienced for last 3 months of membership. First of all, Apex center still does not provide towels. So I had to bring my own towels for every visit. Second, I found quite handful of people were on the phone when they were using the treadmills. Most of the people who talk on the phone while running, are very loud, and I can hear every words from their mouths even though I am on my earphone for music. It obviously bothers a lot. There are a few signs through the facility to prohibit calling on the phone while working out, but it doesn't seem staffs care about it. I have seen there were 3-4 staffs at the front desk and chatting each others, but didn't do anything for those who were talking loudly on the phone while running on the treadmills. Third, I found a few times there were empty containers for the sanitizing wipes. Again, no staff cared about it for a while. Fourth, I also found multiple locks for lockers were not working. It seems it is a continuous issue that locks not working properly. I assume it is most likely running out of the battery for locks. Again, no one seems cares about it. Last but not the least, I have experienced very bad smells in men's locker rooms several times. It was like bad sewer smell and unbearable. I think Apex Center is not running properly, staffs are not working as they are supposed to, and it doesn't provide the proper service to its citizens. Apex center absolutely comes very short for my needs at least. Original review: I just came back to the membership after about 2.5 years of pause for pandemic and other excuses. Well, then I found that Apex Centre decided not to provide towels any more. They even built a brand new sauna without towel! What a selfish decision to just save cost to run the facility! Very disappointing experience. With the same money for membership, you can find much better services all over the town. Go somewhere else.

Negative experience: They don't have jacuzzi and spa is closed and pool is open from 5 to 8 pm only and few weak weigjts so totally nit worth going there

Positive experience: Good overall, but sometimes it gets really busy and you've got to wait for machines. This can be especially bad right after 8pm when the kids room closes but mommy isn't done walking her laps yet so the 10 year olds play on the machines until she is done.

Fantastic experience: This place is very clean and the staff is absolutely welcoming and make you feel super comfortable when you come in! Not to mention all the services they have to offer, wow!

Fantastic experience: Attended a birthday party so not sure about pricing. Having said that, everybody had a great time. 4 big water slides outside, 1 more inside. Pretty fast-paced lazy river outside, another inside. 2 pools outside and another inside. Inside also has about 8 lap lanes as well as 2 lanes of ninja courses. There is a workout area in the 2nd floor, am not sure what else is up there. Cabanas for rent outside, several party rooms for rent inside. Food truck outside. There might be more that I didn't see as well. Place was kept clean and was well staffed; the staff we interacted with were all great.

Fantastic experience: We visited the Apex Centre and got a tour of the place. The staff seemed really friendly and place looks great. Wish their weights section was bigger and had courts for racket sports.

Fantastic experience: Great place to spend a day with kids! Kids over 42 inches can enjoy one of the big slides. There are family changing rooms, and they had shampoo, conditioner, and body soap at the shower.

Fantastic experience: I visited this place to see the pool and check out the workout facilities on Saturday. The pool was great and is a great place for kids to hang out. The water slides were pretty neat. You have to sign up for an account in the main building before getting a day pass. It wasn't that big of a deal and took 10 minutes. The facilities inside are expansive to say the least and I think I'll be getting a membership here soon. Thanks!

Fantastic experience: We love the Apex Centre! Great indoor and outdoor pools with fun family swim times. Decent workout facilities, and you can't beat the family membership price. The kids have really enjoyed the hydro-course at the indoor pool, as well as the diving board and lazy river. The outdoor pools are only open during summer months, but have several fun slides, another lazy river, and a couple kiddie areas. Lifeguards are kind and attentive.

Negative experience: They messed up my monthly billing, "notified" me via an email to an incorrect email address (due to their typo), and 6 months later I got a collection service letter for a bill I had no Idea I owed. Poorly run. Poor use of Mckinney tax dollars to subsidize this place.

Negative experience: Poor gym equipment and variety. Basketball courts are small and the daily pass is overpriced. The Frisco Athletic Center is a better alternative with a cheaper day pass and a better version of all the activities provided by the Apex.

Positive experience: Clean and family environment. Great swimming lanes with enough space. But it would be better if it has more space for free weight.

Positive experience: More family-oriented and with a wider array of services and activities than your average commercial gym. Due to my current life situation I prefer regular gyns but this is a great place for families.

Fantastic experience: The cleanest gym in Mckinney and it’s surrounded area, and family oriented.. but they need to expand the weight floor ( many people are joining the gym).

Fantastic experience: It has everything and it is super convenient. I’m a swimmer, and the pool is incredible. I was skeptical about the pool hours, but so far, there are always plenty of lanes open for a good swimming workout.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful family place, my kids were taking swimming classes and Daniel Wickman the Assistant Supervisor have always help us in any question and guidance for the continuance of the swimming classes so we decided to get the family membership instead. Thank you Dan!

Fantastic experience: I'm generally at the Apex Center 4 to 5 days a week. I have observed a friendly atmosphere at the Center as you enter the staff at the front desk has a welcoming greeting.... I especially enjoy the cleanliness and equipment safety. The Apex Center for me has made my workout experience..... not a task but a daily pleasant experience!!!

Negative experience: If only 0 stars were available... If you are at all hesitant, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A MEMBERSHIP. We were talked into enrolling into a monthly commitment by a front desk associate--after expressing our hesitation given that we were only temporarily in McKinney and being assured that it's easy to terminate. With our 2 toddlers running around and newborn in tow, we were hastily given paperwork to sign and were not informed of their, frankly, criminal cancellation policy. We contacted their membership department today, as you would any other service, to inform them that we have not been using our membership due to a move and wanted to cancel. Kelly Vanaman, from their Accounting department, informed us that we would have to create a 30-day "freeze" on the membership, still pay for that upcoming month, and send in written notice of cancelation. We again stated that we no longer live near the facility, and have not since the end of August, she doubled down on their ludicrous policy. Getting away from this place requires you to have a full day at your disposal. DO NOT DO IT. TLDR; APEX McKinney should seriously rethink its policies, and I hope that I am steering anyone reading this away from their services, especially a membership. I cannot stress this enough, give your money to Frisco Athletic Center. Their facility and staff will treat you better than the one your tax dollars went to.

Fantastic experience: We did a birthday party here and it was a GREAT experience. The room was ready at the exact time they said. The room was the perfect size we needed. They were accommodating for us to bring our own cake since my kiddo has food allergies. We got to swim the rest of the afternoon. We had a GREAT time.

Fantastic experience: We started Apex Summer camp this summer for my 7 and 11 year old. Not only do they love the camp and the counselors, but they also get so much exercise and activity that they go to bed early and are well rested to return the next day!

Not a lot of shade, so dress accordingly and bring extra sun screen. And as far as gym classes go, I love that you need to reserve a spot - you're then guaranteed elbow room. Otherwise, grab a machine in the open gym space and do your thing. **Please don't be that person that doesn't clean up after using equipment. Yah, we see you.

Fantastic experience: Decent gym but at times have to wait for machines or other equipment. Fun outdoor waterpark in the summer with multiple big slides and a small lazy river. The indoor aquatics center is also nice for lap and family swimming but pay attention to the hours and be aware that at times many lanes are used by school groups or lessons. Great value for family membership for McKinney residents, around $880 anually.

Fantastic experience: Great value and the kids love the pool area. I like the work out facility because it is never overly crowded. It's not fancy, but it's new and clean and it gets the job done.

Positive experience: Good customer service and facility for activities. I have joined three weeks before and from the day 1 I hear that WiFi is available but not working and tech team is working. As of this review it is not working. In between it worked for an hour few days before and that too only once during my presence at the center. I am posting this review hoping admins will take care of WiFi issue
