Fantastic experience: Dr. Willens and his staff are top notch. When you walk into the front door, the staff greets you with a big smile and hello as if they’ve known for a long time. Dr. Willens, is by far, the best pain management doctor that I’ve ever been too. He is professional, compassionate, gentle and understanding. The office itself is beautiful and super clean. The staff will not disappoint you!

Negative experience: Every visit the staff, especially Alex, are very friendly and helpful. However, I was discriminated against because I don't believe black women are appreciated or respected at this practice. I have moved to Dr Formosa office and everything Dr Wilens said he couldn't do Dr Formosa performance in the 2 months. If you're a black person or a black woman. I prefer you to go somewhere other than this office.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient for around one year and the experience has been very professional. Dr. Willens, Alex, Rachael, Melissa, Jennifer, Caitlin, and all the staff are exceptional in customer service. Dr. Willens takes the right amount of time with me and is very compassionate in his care. Straightforward and deliberate in his counseling. Fantastic experience: I am absolutely stunned and impressed with the care time and important. The Dr. Williams put into my appointment yesterday I was driving to the appointment, considering that it could be horrible and had invent convinced myself that it would be horrible and I was so shocked to meet a Doctor Who has so many plans viewpoints concerned ways to address them and will go back into your history wherever is needed to get the information he needs. I don’t want to tell the world and send them there but I also don’t want to hold back from people who need a pain management doctor with some complicated issues that have been overlooked, ignored, or rushed. So many doctors don’t care or live by a pamphlet or booklet instead of seeing a person and it appears to me that he sees people. I could be wrong, but coming from a medical background I saw a genuine concern and an actual plan put into motion immediately.

Negative experience: So, the "Art of medicine" must be where the credit card on file policy is written. A website about compassion and not being a standard medical provider "business" but no appointment for you unless you cough up that credit card first. Haven't seen a doctor or stepped foot in your practice and you won't until you give them those Amex digits. I think that's how Merriam-Webster defines compassion. Another U.S. Healthcare joke.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Willens is a very good physician, he really surprised me when he went out of his way to resolve a situation, this lets me know also that he is fair and does care about his patients. I found out that if a problem does arise, let him know and he will if possible make it right. He is the best doctor my husband has seen.

Fantastic experience: This office and staff have been a Godsend for me- I was in pain all the time and did not want to be on heavy pain meds- I have had a treatment plan with injections and I have become almost pain free- it is good not to hurt all the time and my quality of life is so much better- The staff is awesome! Fantastic experience: Dr. Willens was recommended to me for a persistant back problem that had not been helped by other doctors. I found him very compassionate in listening to me as I described my chronic pain and frustration in not finding relief from other treatments. He then made suggestions about what he could do to ease the pain and we agreed on a treatment plan. I would have no problem recommending him to others. Also his staff is very friendly, understanding, and efficient.

Negative experience: DO NOT TRUST THEIR BILLING. You are nothing more to them than an ATM machine. They sent me a bill for $50 for a No Show Fee. I have never seen any doctor in their office. I never made the appointment with this medical office. Nor did I receive a phone call to confirm which would have notified me of this fraud. They refuse to write it off. Is this how you treat potential patients? I would never use the services of this office due to this reason. They only care about the money and a RED FLAG THEY VIEW PATIENTS AS NOTHING MORE THAN AN ATM MACHINE. GOOD LUCK!

Positive experience: I went to this place 4 or 5 times and was the only patient there everytime. Dr Dinh saw me for a pinched nerve they meds they gave me didnt work. She gave me 4 trigger point injections did nothing eitjer, however they billed my insurance for procedures that they never performed. They wanted to give me an epidural but never got authorization from ins co. This place seemed to care about money over everything else. Hopefully something will happen when we call ins co and tell them they billed for things tjat they never did but billed them for.

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place. I have been a patient of Dr. Willens office for years now. Also the staff is always friendly and courteous. They always have smile's on their faces. I can't begin to say how much Dr. Willens has helped me through the years and I appreciate him so much. They always go beyond the bare minimum. He offers many different treatment options. When I first started going there I was a mess and I was in so much pain everyday. I felt pretty hopeless and like my pain had taken over my life. Now I am working out everyday, a lot healthier, and most of all I have hope (with a lot less pain).He offers many options, and does procedures in the comfort of his office. Dr.Willens and his staff are more than just another doctor's office to me, but more like family to me. It is a place to get results. If you're experiencing pain everyday and you're really looking for a solution then you shouldn't hesitate to call them.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Willens and his staff are the best (especially Melissa)! I have degenerative disc disease, resulting in pain from my neck to my tailbone. I could not have gotten through the last several years without Dr. Willens. He actually listens to and works with the patient to come up with a treatment plan that is best for them. Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Dr. Willens since Jan of 2018 and I continue to see him regularly for pain control related to several musculoskeletal disorders/issues as well as fibromyalgia . I have said it before and I’ll say it again, Dr. Willens is an angel and brought me back to my most normal self possible with the use of injections, non-opioid medications and physical therapy. And that’s another plus of visiting his office, it’s a one stop shop for all pain relief. As I go throughout my day to day routines at home and work now , where my pain is little to none, I look back at when I first came to see Dr. Willens and was in pain 24/7 and at a constant pain level of 6-9 , and I still am in amazement by his expertise. I love you guys !

Fantastic experience: I've been with Dr. Willens for almost 12 years now and he is so great! He is able to help with my back and even my headaches so well every time and he really listens and gets to know his patients so he's able to pinpoint the problem areas and take care of them. Fantastic experience: I have suffered with chronic pain from 3 back surgeries and tried most alternate treatments without success. When I called Advanced Pain Management, I asked for first available and explained I was recovering from surgery and need to get in soon. Jennifer made my appointment and told me that she would call me if she had a cancellation. Three days later, Jennifer called me back because an earlier appointment became available and I was able to get in two days earlier. ( in my experience it is very rare that you find someone that cares enough to remember you want an earlier appointment. Thank you Jennifer) At this time of writing this review, I have had one visit with Dr. Willens. Upon arrival you will enter a very nice, clean, and welcoming waiting room which is a pleasant environment . When signing in, the staff was very friendly and attentive. Upon completing the paperwork, I waited less than 5 minutes before I was taken back. Once back in the examination room after my weight and blood pressure were taken I waited less than 5 minutes for Dr. Willens to come into the room. When he entered the room, he had reviewed my records and began the examination. Following the examination, he ask me questions regarding my pain and unlike a lot of doctors he listened intently and let me finish talking. This may not sound like anything special but, believe me it is and in fact it is very special to find a doctor that will actually listen and not jump ahead and assume they know everything about your pain. Following our conversation we discussed treatment options and put together a multifaceted approach to treat my pain and improve my quality of life. He sat down with me and in detail went over what the plan was and ask for my opinion. I have interviewed and researched a lot of pain management doctors and treated with a few doctors in the Jacksonville area. I am very optimistic that Dr. Willens will help me improve my quality of life. Dr. Willens seems to be a doctor that will use multiple treatment options to reduce your pain. I have only had one appointment, but he truly seems like he is more patient focused than driven by profit. I look forward to treating here.

Fantastic experience: I went to see Dr. Willens after a back injury. From the moment so walked in the door, I was pleasantly surprised to see a genuinely kind and pleasant staff to assist with intake. Dr. Willens took the time to get to know my situation, how my injury has impacted my life and what my goals were to get better. He was very empathetic and took his time to explain my options and what he thought was the best course of action. Bedside manner is somewhat known as a thing of the past. It with Dr. Willens. He not only met but exceeded my expectations and has raised the bar with respect to doctors and how a patient should be treated. I never said I have no way of paying my bills. I have a full time job. That pays me in real money. I never said I believe I deserve to be treated for free. It’s called Self pay! Maybe you should learn some professionalism and take constructive criticism about your practice. From the all the reviews I’m not the only dissatisfied person with this office. I was referred to Dr. Willens by my lawyer because I was in a car accident. He refuses to see me because I don’t have health insurance and I ran out of my PIP even though I have Med Pay still available. It seems like this Doctor is only after money and not treating patients. This shows what kind of doctor he is.

I am almost seventy years old and have dealt with inoperable neck and back pain for more than twenty years. During that time I lived in South Florida where I received ongoing treatment from an excellent Pain Management specialist. In July, 2016, I relocated from South Florida to Jacksonville and was faced with the unsettling prospect of finding a new Pain Management doctor. Based on an Internet search that focused on both qualifications and patient reviews, I decided to schedule an appointment at Advanced Pain Management Clinic to see Dr. Willens. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Like many people my age, I have been treated for various medical issues by a variety of physicians. Not one of these doctors compares to Dr. Willens. He is the most knowledgeable, understanding, and compassionate doctor I have ever encountered. He genuinely cares about his patients and treats the whole person, not just the affected body parts. In addition to his extensive medical training and experience, Dr. Willens has the ability to communicate information in a way that has given me the confidence to make solid informed decisions about my course of treatment. Always willing to explain, re-explain, and answer questions, he routinely takes the time I need to digest and understand the complexities inherent to my diagnosis and treatment. In addition, Dr. Willens actually LISTENS when I describe what I am experiencing and responds in a way that enhances a positive doctor-patient partnership. Recently, it was necessary for me to seek the care of an orthopedic specialist for knee replacement surgery, which would be performed at a hospital where Dr. Willens does not practice. Dr. Willens went out of his way to make sure that the Pain Management physician at that hospital understood the challenges related to my back and neck. This doctor made it a point to visit with me right after surgery to see that my additional physical issues were taken into consideration as I recovered from the knee replacement surgery. Because Dr. Willens made sure I was so well cared for, I was able to approach the necessary but demanding physical therapy in the hospital, at an inpatient rehabilitation facility, and currently as an outpatient at Advanced Pain Management Clinic, with a positive and enthusiastic attitude. His efforts on my behalf have had a profound impact on my recovery. Three weeks post surgery I saw Dr. Willens for continued neck and back treatment. Both he and his equally caring, compassionate, and dedicated Certified Medical Assistant, Melissa Edwards, were so delighted with my progress that they literally jumped for joy. I have never experienced such a spontaneously heartwarming reaction from any doctor. The entire staff at Advanced Pain Management Clinic reflects this same attitude. From the Physical Therapy Department, where Director Stephanie Menichella provides superior quality of care and personal attention, to the professional, warm, and gracious support staff, the overriding focus at Advanced Pain Management Clinic is to treat each patient with dignity, respect, and genuine, “from the heart” care and concern. I am old enough to remember when doctors often made house calls, and that same personal investment in a patient’s well-being is what makes Advanced Pain Management Clinic so wonderfully unique. I thank God everyday for the blessing that Dr. Willens and his entire staff continue to be in my life.

Negative experience: Not happy with the drug dependency side of his treatment. Was given a list of NA/AA meetings, a prescription of valium which didn't help much, if at all. A urine specimen was taken. $250 each time you go. I could see maybe 3-4 visits for that price or even a follow up. I guess he's paying for his new building. Maybe he should stick to what he does best...photography! I dont get the feeling that he really cares that much...as usual it's all about $. Overall, I'm just not impressed with his demeanor and actually the only person who is very impressive is Stephanie who is the rehabilitation specialist. I highly recommend her!

Fantastic experience: I had my first visit yesterday for chronic pain in my joints and in my back. Dr. Willens was very receptive to my previous pain management doctors treatment and he told me what he could do for me. I left there with a back brace, 4 shots in my back and a tens unit. The staff was very helpful and understanding.

Fantastic experience: Advanced Pain Management Clinic was very accommodating to get me in quickly, obtain my medical records and made me feel I was in good hands. The doctor saw me on time and the staff was friendly and warm. Dr. Willens took the time to educate me about my condition, explain my options and was very caring and empathetic, while even making me laugh when I was scared. A treatment plan was promptly put in place and I can't express my how relieved I am to know I am being treated by such a competent and honest doctor with an office staff that was actually friendly and helpful. I recommend to anyone who is having pain and needs good treatment solutions.

Negative experience: had a epidural shot scheduled for the 16th called today, they could not even tell me if the shot was covered under my insurance or not. when i asked how much i would have to pay out of pocket they could not tell me, said around $180.00 maybe more. very poor customer service. was waiting a month for this shot and had to cancel my appointment. seems they are over billing.

Negative experience: our experience with this doctor is so terrible.....I can not find the right words for it.... obviously all other feedbacks which are released on this Web site are outdated....and now the services which the doctor offers have been so awful.....!!!!! dear patients....do not waste your time and money and patience by seeing this doc cause he is worthless...Let me briefly describe my case....I have some back problems: and my family doctor started prescribing for me TRAMADOL- controlled substance...and it did not really help enough and then he said if I need a stronger medicine I need to see a professional doc..this is how I got seeing dr. williens...At the same time I go through a physical therapy for treating my back...and Williens barely prescribed those 2 medicines: TRAMADOL and NORCO...I was begging him forever until he finally said yes on this.Instead he made me agree on doing all kind of helpless injections just to collect as much money as possible....like all docs do nowadays. those injections never helped..But he still insisted to do the injections agai...Once he saw me being opposed to do any additional injections he told me he did not want to see me any more and he does not want just only issue prescriptions for me.....OF COURSE ....ONCE HE SAW THAT HE CAN NOT RIPP ME OFF...HE DID NOT want TO CONTINUE DEALING WITH ME.... afterv1 office visit I was told they built my insurance the fee of 2500$ ...I couldn't believe it. and according to his billing office that was for the spinal corset which he assured was totally free. so the billing told me I owe 20% which is 500$. that is crazy... that stupid corset does not help...I did not need it and I already have the chiropractor who is helping me with my back problem....I simply needed the doc who can authorize the prescription of those Narcotics....And Williens then suddenly said that he does not want me as a patient if I need only prescription from him... But in reality only pain doctors can authorize those prescriptions. 2issue: his receptionists.... I was told my appointment was scheduled for 8:30 am and when I got there the doc saw me nly at 9:30a.m and only after I complained about waiting forever. Besides the girl at the front desk kept saying...oooohhhhh your appointment was scheduled for 9am which was a total lie. Williens finally showed up and told me to continue waiting for another 30 min cause he is doing a minor surgery.....That was crazy!!!!!!! 3issue. when you call in and hope to speak with anyone....the receptions never answer the phone. you leave the message and they never respond..... so...I am gonna report about my nasty experience everywhere I can ...and hope he is gonna have only 1-2 patients in a week.

Negative experience: Patients sit in cold rooms with no chair or if your lucky there's an old wooden one in the room where you wait for hours while doc drags in hours late to work. Happened every time to me, the place is a disgrace I have no idea how he got 5 stars obviously he's cherry picking. Wouldnt send my dog to this hack.

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of going to Advanced Pain Management in Jacksonville Florida on 01/27/2016, the staff were so nice and welcoming quite refreshing compared to what I usually deal with at other doctors. Dr Willens came in introduced himself and apologized for my wait, (which was not that long either for a first visit) He took his time and explained everything in great detail, He explained he had a lot of tools to try and he would do his best to help me get some relief, his concern for my pain was genuine. Another thing is lately I feel all doctors are concerned about is what insurance covers before doing anything, he just said what we would do and did not make me worry about what would be covered or not, his staff told me they would work with me that was a great help. If you are reading this you are looking for a pain management doctor all I can do is tell you look no further you will not find anyone like him. The whole staff is wonderful. I drive 40 minutes each way to be seen at Advanced Pain Management. That should tell you how much I value them.

Fantastic experience: I've been a patient at Advanced Pain Management for 2yrs. now,I was in a car accident 13yrs ago in which I injured my back and was left in constant pain.I've seen many Drs. since that time but none of them could seem to help me with my back issues,They would give me an RX. and send me home without even trying to actually treat the problem.Then I was referred to Dr.Willens office by a friend,at that time I was 42,in such terrible pain I had to use a walker just to hold myself up to get into the office.When I seen Dr.Willens for the first time,I told him about the issues I have with my back,he said,not only could he treat me with meds. there were many other options to treat my back pain as well,and that he did! I came into the office today with my 7yr.old granddaughter with me,So proud that I'm up and about again,able to enjoy time with my grandchildren without being in constant pain.Dr.Willens has went above and beyond to help me,he's an excellent Dr. who really cares about the well being of his patients.His office staff is wonderful also,Melissa and Amber are Awesome,they have always been so kind,sincere and helpful to me,they make me feel at home everytime I visit.I would recommend Dr.Willens office to my family,Friends,or anyone that would like to see a Doctor who can be trusted,and truly cares about his patients....I appreciate all that they have done for me,I'm so glad to have found such a wonderful Dr. ~Lori Gleason

Fantastic experience: I went to Advanced Pain Management and was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism of the staff. That immediately gave me a good feeling that they were trained well by the Doctor. After meeting and speaking with Dr. Michael Willens, I knew that I had made the right choice of offices. Dr. Willens spoke to me and explained all my options for the severe pain I had in my leg after having back surgery. We went over all my procedure options, and I did whatever the Doctor suggested. I am now pain free in my leg. All my anxieties were met with compassion by the staff and Dr. Willens. This office is definitely one that cares for the patient and addresses all issues that the patient might have.

Fantastic experience: I seldom ever write a review, but this is certainly one deserving of getting the word out. For the past year my lower back has been bothering me and this has slowly stopped me from walking and doing yard work. Without this exercise I had gained 50 lbs over the year, and creating more pain. Well, I made up my mind to see a Pain Management Dr. and after a lot of research on the internet, I selected Dr. Willens. Now, back than my view than was that most pain drs. were pill pushers or something that I did not understand. On my first visit, Dr. Willens and Melissa spent time getting me to explain exactly where the pain was and when it occurred. The more the accuracy, the better the results from treatment become. The rest of what he did that day is Doctor/Patient things. I went home that day and did not feel any better at all. They did call the next day to check up on me. That was good. He had also scheduled a MRI before the next visit. On the second visit, we discussed the MRI and the problem that he found. Not a big deal and can be corrected. Than back to the Doctor/Patient things that he did. Went home and by the next morning, I was walking the dogs for the first time in a year with no pain and it has been this way all week. I plan on calling him to find out if his other idea is needed a this point.

Fantastic experience: I felt that I had to write a review because I had such a great experience with this kind and intelligent doctor. I was referred by my family doctor and was nervous about seeing pain management after my neck surgery. Right off the bat I knew I would be well taken care of. His staff is warm and friendly. He listened and really took time to understand what happened (I have a long history). I was nervous about the procedure he wanted to do but I trusted him and I AM SO MUCH BETTER! I am off almost all the medication, I am sleeping, and working again. Most of the time I hate to go to the doctor, but this one I actually look forward to. Thank you Dr. Willens! You really saved me!
