The Emily Program Eating Disorder Treatment Center: Reviews
Fantastic experience: The Emily Program has been a lifesaver for our family. My daughter has struggled deeply with an eating disorder, and finding a place that truly understands both the medical and emotional side of recovery was critical. From the first day, the staff treated her with such compassion and respect, creating a safe space where she could open up and start to heal. As a parent, I have been so grateful for the way they include families in the process. They keep me informed, answer every question with patience, and give me tools to support my daughter at home. The therapists(Amanda),dietitians( Melissa)and medical staff work together as a team, and it shows — my daughter feels cared for on every level. I’ve watched her slowly regain not just her health, but her confidence and joy. The Emily Program has given us hope again, and I truly believe they’ve set my daughter on the path to long-term recovery. I would recommend them without hesitation to any parent whose child is struggling.
Hearing that you felt supported and cared for means the world to us. Your kind words inspire us to continue delivering the best care possible.
Fantastic experience: Basically saved my daughter's life. Worked wonders with our family
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are pleased to hear that we could make a positive impact on your daughter's health and your family. Your feedback is truly appreciated.
Negative experience: THE EMILY PROGRAM - ADOLESCENT BRANCH - “Borderline Traumatizing” I am unable to eat multiple things due to having braces, told them multiple times and they said they would make changes to my diet. did you guess they didn't? I’m also genuinely unable to eat red sauce, it’s a taste I’ve hated ever since I was little. I genuinely get close to vomiting every time I taste it. When I told them about this, they said they don’t make accommodations, and gave me multiple dishes with red sauce on them. For a facility so against vomiting that they don’t let you go to the restroom without counting if you eat, they really don’t seem to care that much. Most of the staff just don’t care, and are incredibly passive-aggressive. On my first day, I shut down in front of the lunch room because of the amount of kids inside, and instead of even trying to be sympathetic, two staff members just stood around me and talked about books and true crime podcasts. All that 90% of the staff do is belittle and shame you. They're also CONSTANTLY understaffed, to the point where they would have to call in teachers to help watch everyone. While at the program I had a full on psychiatric breakdown in which I kicked a trash can, and punched a locker. Now, what do you think the reaction was? Wait for me to calm down? Try to talk to me? How about calling my mother at 9 pm (who lived 3 hours away) and telling her that if she didn’t pick me up right then and there, then they would call the police and press charges on me? keep in mind that i’m a 15 year old anorexic, and all i did was punch a locker. Oh, and what do you think they told me? That my mom was coming due to my “damages”? That I’m not allowed to hit a locker? How about “Surprise!”? Because if you guessed that last one, you’d be right. They, instead of telling me I was being kicked out, told me that my mother was actually planning a surprise in which she was coming to pick me up. I figured this out when we got to her car and I said “This definitely wasn’t the plan, was it?” I was right. There are many better facilities to go to, this one just happens to really like insurance money.
Fantastic experience: I am so incredibly grateful to God, my treatment Team at Beachwood: Baylee, Celina and Haley & everyone else. They truly treated me like family and we set attainable goals and ensured vulnerabilities were identified and fixed. They saved my life. If you unfortunately struggle with an ED, please seek help through TEP. They will help you every step of the way. It is hard, but so is living with an ED for the rest of your life and not enjoying life’s pleasures. Thank you. Catherine Burton (C.E.B)
We are so glad to hear that you had a positive experience. Providing a warm and healing environment is our top priority, and we are grateful to have been part of your recovery journey.
Fantastic experience: I would recommend this program to absolutely anyone who's struggling and in need of additional support. I attended this location's DBT-specific program for both PHP and IOP. The staff here are absolutely phenomenal- Well-educated, friendly, and you can tell they're all extremely passionate about what they do here and take their roles in our recovery journeys very seriously. The things you'll learn here not only help with managing mental health, but are life skills that you can utilize in just about any situation that pops up in day to day life. I put in the work, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support & encouragement of my team here. Thank you for helping me help myself!
Fantastic experience: Very caring people the front desk always welcome u love that and the team I really liked the team I had Kelsey the med fought tooth and nail very hard for me to stay there in PHP with my insurance she made it happen for 7 weeks and for that I will always be grateful for and Danielle the psych she was very kind and compassionate and caring she always told me go do something for myself on the weekend cause I don't ever do anything for myself she was a really good listener and she doesn't put u on anything unless u really need my therapist dietitian psych med and every one else was awesome and very helpful highly recommend
Fantastic experience: I have the utmost respect for all at The Emily Program. They have treated me well and I've learned how to change the path my life was on. THANK YOU TEP!
Fantastic experience: My experience was at The Emily Program virtual PHP (Cleveland). It was top notch, staffed with compassionate and knowledgeable staff that forever changed my life. The whole team is excellent at what they do. This program is for people who want to seriously confront their eating disorder in a healthy way, and find new tools with skills to cope daily. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I have 37 years of Binge Eating Disorder behind me. Sincerely, I was sick of this maladaptive coping mechanism. I wanted to live normally as much as I wanted to breathe air. I knew my life would be significantly improved if I took this head on. I have confronted many behaviors and have substituted better actions. I am finally on my way. The lies I told myself and other malarkey had to stop. Being brutally honest with oneself is key. Yes, it the hardest thing you will ever do. It is worth it. A client will not improve without a sincere effort to do the homework and ask questions to the clinical staff. Turn in your diary cards daily. Please don’t get behind. There was a psychiatrist (to help with my medication) and nurse meeting weekly. The dedicated staff is there to make your recovery process work. I will never “have to” chronically diet again. I can eat my binge foods within my food plan. At first, I was scared, over time I have learned “food is only food”. I have learned about the Diet Culture mentally in the US. I have learned to raise my self-esteem with appropriate combating thoughts. I have learned to get rid of very negative “stinking thinking”. This is a daily process. We are encouraged to not discuss weight, exercise, and sizes, or the amounts of food we are eating so as to not trigger other people in group. That becomes freeing. One must take responsibility for their recovery; otherwise, it won’t work. It is up to you to be consistent. You can and will recover if you have the drive and motivation to do so! There is hope. The staff’s message was that “recovery is possible”. They planted the seed daily. Just keep doing CBT and DBT exercises, with mindfulness activities. Attend all of your therapy sessions. You can get rid of a lot of areas that have been holding you back. All the staff are there to help you, not hurt you. They will be your cheerleaders. You won’t be alone. Give it your most earnest try, and you can be shocked at how much you can change. Trust the process. It is not magic—it is hard work. Only you can choose to live or die. I chose to live. There is much more happiness on the other side. Before, I didn’t know who I was without my ED. Now, I am in control of redefining myself. I am more back in my body than I have ever been. The ED doesn’t own me daily like it once did.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are pleased to hear that our program has made a positive impact on your life and that you are feeling empowered on your journey to recovery!
Fantastic experience: TEP is great at addressing all types of EDs, and catering to each client. The therapists and dietician in the ASAM PHP, has provided helpful skills, knowledge, and unconditional support/guidance. The outpatient team is also great for ongoing support and care.
We are delighted to hear about your positive experience with our program and team. Thank you for sharing your feedback!
Fantastic experience: The Emily Program saved my daughter’s life. They are an amazing team of people.
Fantastic experience: My time with the Emily Program has been life changing! I finally have a much better relationship with food. The counselors are so kind and compassionate. They also have a wonderful knowledge of eating disorders. If you need help, this is the place!
Fantastic experience: I was really scared to seek treatment because of the rigid barriers and criteria that are usually present in eating disorder treatment. The Emily Program has completely changed my perspective on what eating disorder treatment is. My experience with PHP has offered me intensive yet noninvasive support. For the first time in my life I feel like recovery is possible for me :)
Thank you for the review, Angel! Recovery is worth and we are here to support every client throughout their eating disorder journey!
Fantastic experience: Everyone at the Emily Program was so kind and patient, but firm at the same time. My son’s relationship with food is so much healthier now.
Thank you for your review, Scout! We are grateful for our amazing staff and how they support every client and their supporters too through these tenacious illnesses.
Fantastic experience: Great therapists, love the team! Care coordination could be better as many things do fall through the cracks. Great place overall for treatment.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Christine! We are grateful for our amazing staff and the hard work they do in helping people reach recovery!
Fantastic experience: The Emily program treats the patient and families through a very difficult process with caring and compassion. Grateful they are available in our location.
Positive experience: I have mixed feelings. This may be more of an issue with me than the program but i feel like i was taught how to eat mechanically but I never knew what skills to use at what time. I wasn't very good At recognizing the build up before things got so intense that even distress tolerance skills did not work. I also feel I was inadequately prepared for the transition back into my regular pattern of daily living nor for the transition into less structured or more chaotic environments. Part of that, I'm sure, was being present, but I feel this concern wasnt properly addressed and often led to feeling like i was set up to fail.
Hi Iris, thank you for sharing your experience. We know how challenging it can be to make changes that support recovery, but we strive to provide individualized care to help every person on their journey. Please know, your feedback is important to us so we can continue to improve and provide the best care possible.
Fantastic experience: The Emily Program is the first program I've ever experienced that really dives deeply into the process of healing my fractured relationship with food. The support network of professionals is outstanding, and they really get to know you personally to help you battle your eating disorder. I can't recommend them highly enough.
Thank you for your review, Frank. We know how hard it is to make the changes that are truly helpful in regaining or establishing a peaceful relationship with food, body, and self, or to see a loved one struggle with changes. That is why we are here to support every client throughout their eating disorder journey. Everyone deserves recovery!
Fantastic experience: The Emily Program has been a wonderful experience to go through. Before The Emily Program, I had lost all hope that I’d get past my ED and eat regularly again. It was a rough journey before starting and after first starting The Emily Program. But I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for this program. They have taught me a variety of skills I can continue to use to fight my ED, as well as, to help in my daily life. The technique that The Emily Program uses to treat their patients, is so worth the time and effort to put into. The staff are very kind and friendly. They are some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. I definitely recommend The Emily Program to anyone who is struggling with an ED. No matter how mild or severe your ED is, just know you’re not alone. You can put your mind to anything you want. So yes, if you want to fight your ED, you can do it!
Thank you for your review and sharing your experience, Brooke. We understand how challenging it can be to seek treatment and to fight these tenacious illnesses. With our dedicated and passionate staff, we are here to support every client on their eating disorder journey because everyone deserves recovery!
Fantastic experience: The program is so holistic, the eating disorder is approached from every angle. The team is amazing, each and every person super impressive. Everyone has a wealth of knowledge for every situation imaginable and they give you tools to use at home. It is a family approach so you feel part of the treatment and on the same page.
Thank you for your review, Becky. We love our amazing staff and their dedication in supporting every client!
Fantastic experience: This experience was nothing like what I thought it would be. It's very education focused, and they use so many disciplines that you're able to find just the right combination to fit your unique needs. Every person that I encountered, be it individual therapists, dieticians, yoga instructors, or front desk staff was so dedicated to the program. This isn't a "job" for them, this is their life's work. There is a method to the madness, because it all gels together to form something so special. These aren't quick fixes, these are our way back to a meaningful and mindful relationship with food and our bodies. I truly look forward to continuing my journey in outpatient.
Thank you for your review, Cheryl. We understand how hard the journey can be and are so grateful for our amazing staff and how they support each and every person.
Fantastic experience: The Emily program is an amazing program there friendly and listen to you and help you through it so you don't feel so alone and meeting people that are going through it I would highly recommend it to anyone in doubt
Thank you so much for your review, Laura!
Positive experience: Intake meeting & first meeting to discuss eating disorder for our 13 year old have been helpful. Expecting slow & steady process
Thank you for the review, Keith. We know how challenging it is to see a loved one struggle with an eating disorder but we are here to help every step of the way!
Fantastic experience: The Emily Program capably collaborated with us in navigating a challenging season for our family. Interdisciplinary treatment ensured our daughter's needs were comprehensively addressed while therapeutic support provided vital education and compassionate guidance for all of us. Our daughter completed PHP and IOP levels of care and remains active in outpatient therapy. The work continues, but having a provider like TEP on board is an invaluable resource. We're incredibly grateful.
HI Jane, thank you for sharing your experience. We greatly appreciate it!
Negative experience: Only care if you can pay. Despite outta network insurance willing to pay. Hope you’re rich. If your not rich you don’t matter
Hi Jen, we are sorry to hear you have had challenges relating to insurance. We know seeking treatment for eating disorder is a big decision so having additional hurdles around insurance is frustrating. We would like to review your concerns further so please reach out by calling 919-767-0264 or e-mail us at [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Everyone is very nice, helpful, knowledgeable and cares.
Thank you for your review, Aubrey!
Fantastic experience: all of the staff are wonderful in the program and do everything possible to help if you have any issues. having access to a group of people who go through the same thing you do every day has been really helpful. the only criticisms I can give is I feel that there are parts that are repetitive and unnecessary in my opinion. such as weekly goals and weekend planning. these activities take up hour chunks of the week which we could out to use learning more skills which would be more useful. even so being in the program was one of the most enjoyable things I've done in a long time. if I could have I would have just stayed on to help all the new people through the process. it was so much more reassuring to have someone whose been around awhile just tell you what's going to happen, and that it'll all be fine.
Thank you for your review and sharing your experience, Mark!
Positive experience: Professional, timely assessment, and thorough with questions, info and getting to know the patient. We haven’t begun the therapies yet but the initial contact is impressive! Terrific communications overall the process!!! (This is why not a5 star rating, I am confident the Therapies portion of the program will be just as great)
Thank you for your review, Renee!
Fantastic experience: I have received such high quality care every time I have done treatment with The Emily Program. Everyone I have ever worked with has been so kind, supportive, and passionate about the work they are doing. This is important work and I have the most respect for anyone working with eating disorders. The CARE IOP for binge eating has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my life thus far, and the experiences I have had will stay with me for the rest of my life. I have learned so much about myself and the world around me that has lead me to struggling with the disorder I have. I have learned how to manage my behaviors and symptoms and to have compassion for myself. Most of all, I found community, and in that community I found connection, a sense of belonging, and I learned that I am not alone. There is endless value in the wholeness I have felt due to the vulnerability, rawness, and unconditional support of the shared experiences of group participants. The Emily Program and CARE IOP has changed my life for the better.
Thank you so much for you review, jowana!
Fantastic experience: The Emily Program was one of the best investments I have made for myself. The staff in both the Cleveland and Columbus locations were super nice and helpful. I was first recommended for the residential program, but my insurance didn't cover it. The staff at the Emily Program helped to get my insurance on board and I was able to participate in the in-patient virtual program from the comfort of my own home. The program taught me valuable information on my eating disorder that will help me for the rest of my life. I 100% recommend this program for anyone struggling with an eating disorder. Thank-you for all the help I received during my time in the Emily Program!
Kristinia, thank you so much for the kind words and sharing your experience!
Fantastic experience: I am forever changed after my time at TEP?s residential program. My eating disorder had taken what I thought was a permanent residence within me. I didn?t remember who I was anymore. Everything I stood for, my friendships, my goals, and my HAPPINESS all took their place on the back burner. I was consumed by misery. At TEP, I really felt safe, seen, and listened to. I uncovered the part of myself that I thought was gone forever. Thank you to all of the staff. Truly, I would not have been able to successfully move onward if it hadn?t been for all of you. Thank you for reminding me what it?s like to really be alive.
Thank you for your review and sharing your experience Emily!
Negative experience: A number of years ago I went to seek help with an eating disorder. I met with a social worker to see what issues I was concerned with. After our meeting, this fool looked at me and told me there was nothing they could do for me. What???!! Your center deals with eating disorders!!! I have since been diagnosed with BED. The Hull institute diagnosed me. I have since told people my story. Hopefully that fool has been fired. Still I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Hi Phrarama, we are sorry to hear you had a negative experience. If you would like to continue the conversation please email us at [email protected].
Negative experience: This abomination of a center is the last place a person struggling with an eating disorder should resort to. All they care about is shoving enormous amounts of food down your throat, completely disregarding the dangers of refeeding syndrome. My daughter was a source of gossip among staff, was told to swallow her vomit, and was frowned upon by therapists. Her physical state and self esteem plummeted during our stay. I hope this place shuts down after seeing how they handled eating disorder recovery in our case. Don’t waste your money here.
Hi Triplex30, we are sorry to hear about your daughter's negative experience. If you would like to continue the conversation please email us at [email protected].
Negative experience: i was here for about 10 weeks a couple years ago before they kicked me out, and the only thing i got out of it was some damage to my self esteem and a new knitting hobby.
Thank you for your feedback, Maya. If you would like to discuss this issue further, please email us at [email protected] so we can continue the conversation.
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff and treatment team! I recommend this place to anyone trying to recover from ANY eating disorder
Thank you for your review, Mini!
Negative experience: Its better to go to laurel wood and have carnations shoved down your throat. They don't keep your personal information private! They will talk about patients with other patients!
Thank you for your feedback, Anthony. We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. If you would like to submit a formal complaint, please fill out our grievance form located here: https://emilyprogram.com/wp-content/uploads/GrievanceForm.pdf
Fantastic experience: I really appreciate my therapist at The Emily Program. She has helped me walk through some of the most trying times of my life. I feel like I have the tools to move forward in my recovery because of the help I have received.
Thank you for your review, Lyndsey!
Negative experience: Was admitted here for a few weeks and got nothing out of it besides being out a lot of money.
Thank you for your feedback, Megan. We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. If you would like to submit a formal complaint, please fill out our grievance form located here: https://emilyprogram.com/wp-content/uploads/GrievanceForm.pdf
Fantastic experience: Great eating disorder program, DBT model.
Thank you for your review, Benjamin!
Fantastic experience: The best eating dissorder residential program I have been to. They provided the help I needed in the ways that worked. They gave me hope and taught their groups in a way I understood and wanted to be involved instead of tune out. The staff were nothing but supportive and had my best interest in mind. They accommodated my needs and my situation with open arms♡ when it was time to move to a lower level of care they helped me find the place best fit for my needs and for my best chance of recovery. They didnt encourage me to step down in their next program but in one I had the best chance of continued success!
Thank you for your review, Casey!
Negative experience: My daughter was seen and referred to the “doctor” who has no phone number. When we call to schedule you have to call The Emily Program and be transferred to the “nurse” and you go to voice mail. Did this 3 times and never got a return call to schedule for lab work. Almost a year has passed and still no appointment with the doctor. Showed up once for our Emily Program appointment and she had called off. Drove 45 minutes to be turned away. Apparently they can’t call you to tell you this. Also have been billed several times for the same service which we already have paid. When we call they say they can not speak to us because my daughter is 18, but is still a senior in high school and on our insurance. Will never take her back there or recommend this service to anyone. 2.7 out of 5 on google reviews should say it all. I agree with the review above that all they care about is money.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. If you would like to submit a formal complaint, please fill out our grievance form located here: https://www.emilyprogram.com/images/pdfs/All_States/GrievanceForm.pdf
Negative experience: They deserve negative five stars. They Care about nothing but money. The staff is kind but ever since the Emily Program took over from when it was CCED they accept way more people than can be accommodated, force therapists to take on ridiculous case loads that can't be scheduled which results in outpatient clients not being able to get in for sometimes more than a month at a time. They try to push everyone into residential regardless of if that is the proper level of care for the client just so they can make more money off of them. Therapists keep quitting because of the unethical practices and management styles that have been implemented by the Emily Program so the Therapists that remain are forced to take on others clients in addition to their own and because that is not possible to accommodate they will just cancel outpatient client appointments to try and get all the IOP people in with a therapist without any regard to the outpatient client they are removing from the therapists schedule without therapist or client consent simply so they can make as much money as possible so you basically get punished for progressing in recovery. And despite the fact that they are clearly over capacity and unable to actually treat all of the current patients they have properly and are losing staff by the minute they continue to accept new clients everyday. Every time I am in there I see at LEAST two new families in the lobby filling out admission forms when those of us who have been there for years either can't get appointments at all or have our appointments cancelled without consent or legitimate cause. RUN FROM THIS PLACE AS FAST AS YOU CAN! THE EMILY PROGRAM DOES NOT CARE ABOUT CLIENTS THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY AND THAT IS EVIDENT TO EVERYONE INCLUDING CURRENT AND FORMER STAFF WHO ARE INCREASINGLY RUNNING AWAY FROM ASSOCIATING WITH THEM AS FAST AS THEY CAN.

Fantastic experience: One of the best programs I've ever been admitted to. The staff truest cares and elicit the best dbt eplination I've ever had. This program saved my life and supported me throughout my recovery. Forever greatful!
Thank you for your review, Laura!
Negative experience: Not a particularly accommodating program! Need blood work and EKG before being admitted. Has to be done within 7 days or will hv to retake. I'm on my 3rd try and 600 $dollars out of pocket in the hole before even being admitted! Call me crazy but I'm in Pa. , the person coordinating this for me is in Washington state (3 hr difference) and the residential center where I should be staying is in Cleveland Oh. I've been playing phone tag for 3 weeks and when I do talk with someone there is always ONE more problem..... I'm the one that needs help! Now about ready to throw in the towel. I;m not sure why they don't hv a better system??? With all this trouble getting admitted I'm scared to witness how they run the program!!! Today I decided to look into other facilities! Upset in Pennsylvania, Ann
