Harlan ARH Hospital: Reviews
Negative experience: This so called man does NOT care about his title or the people that walk in that building needing cares! He was our mother’s primary care physician for 25 years! He absolutely did nothing for her ! He also wanted to send her home with some oxygen and antibiotics, while she could not breathe at all! He is absolutely a disgrace! Don’t send your family here to see him if you love them Quick to write those prescriptions, lazy to provide quality care
Negative experience: I only give this place a 1 star because I have to To be able to write a review. My daughter has chronic pancreatic and she went to this er for 2 nights straight and the second night it was awful a nurse told my daughter they do not serve drug attics, for starters she not a drug attics she has a serious condition and it calls for pain meds which she only gets when she has a flare up so with that being said this nurse needs to read upon her patients before she assumes anything. So this place is a joke not all nurses are like her, the dr should override the nurse bc hes seen my daughter enough to know what's wrong with her he was gonna do the right Thing, but for some reason the nurse can override the dr decision up there, its ridiculous have to go out of town to get help. And I only gave 1 star like I said to give a review
Negative experience: Im very dissatisfied with this hospital! I'm there more than I at home only to be treated horrible by first shift staff. They discriminate big-time..I wouldn't recommend going here for sur
Negative experience: My husband went to the er there the other day throwing up. They done scans on him and test, the nurse told him he had a mild heart attack, they couldn’t find the dr for nearly two hours and when he finally showed up he had another patient’s file and called him by another patients name. Harlan ARH is the world’s worst hospital, they have drs there that are jokes.
Negative experience: Been trying for 3 weeks just to get an appointment for a CT scan. This is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe get a more efficient scheduling department.
Negative experience: Worst hospital ever to exist the ER staff is very unsatisfactory and if I had my choice this place would have no star and closed down
Negative experience: There was no one here to having many people here I'm about to pass out, have seizures, and can't breathe, lacking salt and they won't let me eat something till I'm seen. Saying that a person with a foot injury is in worse condition than someone dealing with all that and there own stoma coming out more and more which by then it's more of my small intestines falling out of me.
Negative experience: I am a migraine sufferer and have been my whole life since very young. I just moved to this area. My first trip to this location was terrible! I came in at like 2:30 am. Got into a room fairly quickly, a doc came in said he get me a “cocktail”. Over 40 mins went by, not a soul came in.No pillow. No meds. It was HOT in that room! I was thirsty & super dehydrated. I opened my door and there’s a nurse sitting in a chair and I said is no one coming in here I guess and she just stared at me. No help no support. So I left, came back home. This was 3:30am. Finally at 6am couldn’t take it more. I went back. They were cold! Acted like they didn’t want to let me go in again. But ended up letting me. Randall’s body language & facial expressions were so uncalled for. (The guy at triage) The nurse up front was very sweet this time and check vitals quickly & hooked me up quickly this time. Then I get a nurse giving me a med I never had. And needed a heart monitor. That monitor wasn’t even working. And thats not the cocktail I usually get!! The machine that had the medicine wasn’t plugged in. So was beeping LOUDLY FOREVER! Had to hit the call button. They fixed it. 15 freaking mins later its going off AGAIN! Saying AIR IN LINE!?!?! Are you kidding me!? Scary!! Had to hit the call button again! Over two hours go by. I hit the call button. I am in NEED of pain relief! That did not work! They bring me fentanyl!! WHAT!? Never have had that!! I wanted to refuse! But I also didn’t want to feel this pain no more! 10 hours of pain! 5 hours puking! I was tired of it! She claimed its safe! It. Did. Noting. Hour goes by. Im still in agony. My bf shows up. Tells the doctor this is what I go through A LOT! I am not a druggy looking for a fix. And making her wait two hours for pain meds is uncalled for. He tells them how at the last place it took three rounds of meds. Which is unusual for me. But they ended up giving me morphine and thats what worked. The doctor seemed reluctant but said okay we will give a “one time” dose. It felt so awkward the way his body language was and the way he said it. It made me feel uncomfortable! I just want relief! Not to be made feeling like Im looking for a dose of something. I am far from that! I hate meds and do ALL I can to NOT have to go to the er! Its my last resort & to be treated like I didn’t matter is less than sub par. Unacceptable behavior from the hospital staff. Do better. Test my blood/urine if you want to see if I was a junkie! You’d had found out quickly IM NOT.
Fantastic experience: My life was saved at this Hospital I had sepsis and about dead unconscious and I was ICU on a ventilator for a week I was 80 pounds and very sick! They did wonderful with me I'm alive healthy and happy God saved me ! Jesus loves us so much! God bless Harlan county and The Hospital!
Negative experience: They called me and said my mom was ready to get out of the hospital so I drive almost an hour to get her then they said they couldn’t release her I’d have to come back another day. They didn’t bother to call me back and I drove all that way for nothing. Very rude
Negative experience: I go here due to my heart condition..they make me wait for two hours....then make me lye in a bed.. No nurse ..no doctors...chest pain ..finally when I see a dr...would not issue me my everyday meds...bs
Negative experience: This ER is the absolute worst place to go regarding ANYTHING. The doctor that works in the er specifically is the most useless person I’ve ever met. Extremely rude. Not showing any care for patients pain, not cooperating with patients (or other staff), and overall does nothing. We took in our two year old for swollen gums, we were there for five hours, and our child was put through so much. Blood taken twice (FOUR VIALS OF BLOOD) for no apparent reason, X-rays, and they didn’t bother to even check his mouth until at least three hours into the visit. Only two workers were good. Not to mention, they put on the discharge paperwork that we were seen for nausea…if you need to go to an emergency room, you’re better off suffering a car ride to another one. Avoid this place at all costs. Not to mention, the rooms are DIRTY
Fantastic experience: I was well cared for and left feeling very good.
Fantastic experience: I’m in Harlan visiting family from Arizona. While here I contracted a stomach virus on Christmas and at the same time I was dealing with back spasms since the previous 4 days. I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t anything more than a virus. I know this is a small town so I can’t compare the wait times to ERs in Phoenix, but it’s hard to not be impressed by the fact that as soon as I checked in that I was called back. The nurses and other staff were so sweet. The doctor I saw was very thorough and kind and ordered medicine that quickly made me feel better. I walked out of here feeling relief from my nausea and abdominal pain, and my back spasms have not been an issue since! In Phoenix you often see the doctor once and then only see the nurses but the doctor was involved throughout my visit. In addition, I was impressed by the lady who checked me in and got my information. I wish I had gotten her name. She gave me so much information that you don’t see given in Phoenix hospitals and she was so sweet during my time there. In the amount of time I waited to be called from the time I was discharged I would have still had a few hours at least waiting to be seen if I was back home. Thank you ARH for helping me feel better!
Negative experience: This hospital is the worst place in the world to come to stay away from it if you can find a better hospital please do not come to this hospital if you value your loved ones
Negative experience: Awful just awful, been there multiple times, drained a ganglion cyst on my wrist, with no numbing agents, and then recommended me to get it removed, however, they couldn’t remove it because they had drained it and didn’t inform me. Recently my partner was in a car crash with me. They scanned her and looked her over and gave us a wrong diagnosis. They sent us to a different hospital and they got a proper diagnosis and realized her liver was cut and sternum was broken. Arh is a joke, if you have a choice do not go there.
Negative experience: I blame SECC for letting some of these people graduate
Negative experience: Dr. Marlowe Stanley sent me home with medication that could kill me and never called back after several phone calls. He was contacted after three phone calls to just say, “I’m busy”. I could very well die tonight from a combination of medicine he could have very well taken me off of. My family has no idea what to do as all he suggested was “get help”. He also I told me I had a 5% chance of leaving there, even after he had decided to give me nothing. After I at, I called back five minutes later and that he was in an important procedure. He told that to a nurse. he sent four pills, sending “four pills”(dialzeplproam), a straight cousin to Benadryl.
Fantastic experience: Very thorough
Negative experience: Wouldn’t take my dog there to die.
Negative experience: I think the nurses did as well as they could with the training they have had. The doctor was a terrible terrible person. What really upset me was when he told me my wife did not even need any pain medication for the humorous that was 100% snapped in half. Just because a place doesn’t have the resources that a bigger place has doesn’t mean they should provide terrible quality service. I feel bad from the people that work here that could thrive in another environment. We received better quality care from the medics and the transport team than the hospital
Negative experience: I absolutely can not stand this place. At this point I will sit at home and suffer rather than go here and feel like torture. They act as if they don’t care. Constantly on their phones ignoring the patients. Secluding them. It should not take over a hour to see someone. I understand if your er is full. But if there is only 3 people in there. Taking over a hour to check in is absolutely ridiculous. If you need medical attention go to pineville or Middlesbrough. By the time you get there you won’t even have been see at Harlan. Absolutely disgusting.
Negative experience: Various people in psychiatric facility are not advocates of the patients. Dr. Raza calls other providers names if they aren’t afilliated with comp care. “Quacks” to be exact. He degrades women. He forces discharge patients to go to comp care because they give him referrals. Kim Ball refuses to give out discharge paperwork as the discharge nurse. Good luck talking to the director Craig, he won’t return phone calls either.
Negative experience: Needs an overhaul. Building is old and needs repairs. Medical services are limited.
Negative experience: I went here to get an issue diagnosed and fixed. I went there, waited 3 hours, and all they did was give me a painkiller and kick me out the door. This was bogus
Fantastic experience: Their some Dr. Good at job and n nurses too good job
Negative experience: I passed out and my blood pressure was up to where I was close to having a stroke. I sat in the ER for 9 hours before I was seen, they ran tests and 3 hours later i finally meet my dr. he Tells me there is nothing wrong with me said there is times your body just chooses to shut down for a minute... Its normal. 12 hours waisted for someone to tell me there is nothing wrong. On the plus side the nurses where nice. Go to Whitesburg or Lexington it's worth the drive. You actually see a dr. Who knows what they are talking about.
Negative experience: I’d give it 0 if I was able, worst hospital around. Definitely don’t recommend to anyone pregnant.
Negative experience: Only thing this place is good for is pulling blood from inmates. Baby mama had a seisure at 34 weeks pregnant they made us wait 2 hours before being seen, put us in a chair in the hallway, did a ultrasound and sent us on our way. Baffeling
Negative experience: Worst expensive ever brought my son in and have been here for three hours and have yet to see a nurse or doctor besides when I catch on walking by in all way this will definitely be my last trip here.
Negative experience: MY MOTHER'S BACK HAS BEEN HURTING HER FOR DAYS AND WHEN SHE WENT IN! THEY JUST FELT HER BACK AND DONE NOTHING FOR HER! I PRAY TO GOD WE CAN SUE THE HOSPITAL AND PUT THOSE PATHETIC PEOPLE WHO DID NOTHING FOR HER OUT OF WORK !CAUSE THEY CLEARLY ARE NOT MEANT TO WORK AT A HOSPITAL!
Negative experience: I'm giving one star because I can't give zero. First of all, the bedside manner is very unprofessional, and the care given isn't much better. The surgeon wasn't able to answer simple questions about surgery and the actions taken during. Also wasn't able to answer basic questions about possible reactions. My best friends Mamaw, was admitted earlier this week due to infection from the surgery she had there, and no medical professional there was able to answer any questions they had and wasn't allowing any kind of visitors the first couple of days. Please just make the extra drive and go somewhere else to get better care for you and your loved ones.
Negative experience: This hoapital is a joke. All they care about is money. My family wa put in awhile back fo pnuemonia. Was treated like a leper. Was lucky he got to eat. What happened to taking care of patients. What are we scareded of covid. Get over it. Do your job u pansies
Fantastic experience: My dad James T Bowers, sadly didn't make it out after 3.5 long weeks here where they did every possible treatment in a battle with covid round 2 that he just couldn't beat. The surgeons spoke to me at every important turn and thoroughly explained his condition and the options with pros cons etc so I was informed before making them. I support every Dr and covid care nurse here. My dad was cared for and the empathy was real and comforting in the end. They let me call his pastor and wife down to be with him before he met God. They are the real deal and im grateful to them all. Please get vaccinated.
Fantastic experience: Pretty good hospital
Negative experience: Horrible excuse for a hospital.
Positive experience: My mom was admitted Sunday, with an infection. They let me come from Ohio and spend the night with her. There keeping her on I.V fluids & antibiotics for a couple days. Then sending her home with more antibiotics. The staff is super nice. Not only taking care of Mom, but asking me if I'm ok and need anything. I give night shift ( 4th floor) 5 stars. How well they cared for my mom. And actually cared about her, and was patient with her having Alzheimer's. Valerie & Dianne were awesome. You can tell they care about their patients as people, not just a job.
Fantastic experience: I came in on a Monday to induced. The L&D staff here have been absolutely amazing from the moment we walked in. Everyone has been extremely supportive and helpful in every way which led to a great birthing experience!
Negative experience: I had 5 babies here and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone because I had a horrible experience every time
Negative experience: We had to take my 84 year old grandmother to the ER when she fell in her living room on 2-25-21. She was there for hours. The nursing staff were pleasant and caring. However, Dr. Rhoman was not. He never made physical contact with her. He spoke to her briefly (3 min) and stood 4 to 5 feet away. They did perform an X-ray of her spine. Somehow he determined she had nothing broken or fractured and was experiencing muscle spasms. He had the nurses administer meds and sent her on way. Now 2 days later she is dizzy and her head hurts. She never had a an X-ray of her head!!!! If I could rate this hospital with zero stars I would. Most of the staff that work there try hard. But it is impossible to overcome incompetent management and physicians. If you aren't bleeding to death please go somewhere else for care!
Negative experience: My sister went to the er per orders from her dr. She had possibly had a stroke or severe seizure. When she got to the er by ambulance she sat in the back in a chair in the hallway , not in a bed or even a room, all the time she was there. She got a ct scan and that’s it! No bloodwork, no nothing!!! The nurses totally ignored her while she was there . Didn’t check temperature, get vital signs NOTHING! The only attention she got was when she grabbed one of them and they had to stop. She could have died right there in your er!! She was there from 7 pm. To 1 am. No stroke protocol or any protocol for anything!! I have never in my life seen such uncaring, unqualified, people. The drs name was dr white. She received 1/2 of an imitrex as she was leaving. Never went over paperwork for dismissal. Had her sign and leave!I hope and pray that this er gets reprimanded severely for their incompetence and uncaring of a possible life and death situation! Thank God she is ok today. Still sick but at least not dead!
Negative experience: How can a hospitals phones be down for 3 days and they don't care? If it's a citywide problem, then invest in infrastructure that gives the hospital its own phone services where a city outage won't affect the HOSPITAL. Inexcusable, that if your loved one was dying you wouldn't have any way of knowing, and the staff doesn't care at all.
Negative experience: Anytime the wind blows a little strongly here, or there's a light rain, the phone lines are down for over 24 hours. Unacceptable for a hospital in the modern age. They refuse to update their lines so this doesn't happen.
Negative experience: If I could give this place 0 stars I would, came in because I'm pregnant and spotting and having some cramps. The only they did was take some blood and do an ultrasound. I've been sitting here for 4 hours and they've said nothing to me.
Negative experience: I took my dad in through the ER on May 2nd for a simple stitch job on his lip as it was busted open due to a fall (and it was honestly not some little scratch. It did look like a gaping hole above his lip). The ER doctor and the RN working at the time were extremely rude. I had to ask the RN to not even come back in the room due to her attitude. After being in the ER for 3+ hours, no one had cleaned out his wound, give him 2 Tylenol for the pain of the big gaping hole in his face, was told by other employees that the doctor ordered (and the doctor did not discuss this with us himself) lab work which required 6 tubes of blood, a CT scan of his face, an X RAY of his head, an X Ray of his shoulder and an X Ray of his knee. The RN, before being asked to not come back, said it was a liability to stitch without a CT scan and that the doctor could not even stitch it up. It would require a surgeon (and this was said with much attitude). The imaging had nothing to do with a stitch job. After he came back from the imaging, they asked for a urinalysis and then a lady came in to do a BLOOD GAS test! At this point, I told them absolutely not and wanted to speak to the doctor. He came in, said he did not see the CT results and asked my dad directly what he wanted. I asked him what he was doing for my dad. He profoundly told me that he does not answer to me, that these tests are mandatory, looks at my dad and continues to talk to him while I ask questions. The doctor turns to look at me after I ask him what the blood gas test had to do with anything. He said it was due to low sodium counts and that I don't dictate what he is doing. My dad told him I have enough schooling that I know this had nothing to do with a SIMPLE STITCH JOB. The doctor looks at me, tells me I have an MD here, an MD there, where did I get an MD and that he didn't care because I have no idea what I am doing. At this point, I was furious and told him he doesn't know me. The doctor tells me firmly to sit down so I told him NO! My dad was beyond frustrated. Also to note, while my dad was getting imaging done, the surgeon himself told him by the time he was able to look at his chart and images, it would be too late to stitch that night so he would have to be admitted, stay overnight and would stitch the next day. We signed papers to leave after speaking to the supervisor in which the doctor requested. NOTE: There were other things said to me by the doctor that I will not put on here due to Public viewing. After numerous apologies, she told me it would all be reported. After we left HARH ER, I drove my dad to Corbin and was immediately seen. His wound was immediately cleaned out (due to Harlan not doing anything of the sort) and was stitched up and ready to leave within an hour. The ER doctor in Corbin stated that after 8 hours, they could not stitch it up due to not being able to properly clean it and would become very infected so it would require antibiotics and other treatment options. I would highly recommend anyone to go to Corbin and stay AWAY FROM HARH! That place is an absolute joke and much malpractice I seen going on in the 3+ hours we were in the ER. Besides HARH, I don't know of a hospital that would leave an open wound uncleaned for 24 hours and be put off to stitch the next day. Seriously recommend Corbin hospital ER to anyone and everyone. STAY AWAY FROM HARH.
Positive experience: Can't say one bad thing about my father's care here at Harlan ARH. He has been here for 2wks and everyday he is took care of. Thank you
Negative experience: Letting people die is sick. They all asume the patients are overdoinsg on drugs. My 17 year old sister had chest pains. they basically let my whole family watch her die. This hospital should not even exsit. I am not no doctor but, i can tell the difference when someone is ODing and when someone is actually sick. Either way, if you made an oath to some some one no matter what cost, it shouldnt matter if they are overdosing or having a heart attack. You are sick bastards
Negative experience: They do let people die. I know first hand, back in 2009 they allowed my mother to die. She was admitted with a touch of pneumonia in 1 lung 4 days later she was gone. The doctors don't have a clue. Upon her arrival, the Dr on call told my father he thought she had a ruptured bowel, no MRI, CT SCAN. Just a hunch? She DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING WRONG INTERNALLY. They kept her "sedated" the day after surgery. She never woke up. SAD STORY.
Negative experience: I believe letting people die while in they're care is part of the office experience. Expect, pain, rudeness, and an all around fear for your life when u go there to get that splinter removed from ur thumb. If u have any common sense or a will to keep living u will go to pineville
Negative experience: Absolutely awful. Hospital staff discussed the stomach virus they've been passing around amongst themselves right in front of me, in great detail. Disgusting. Horrible to hear that they are treating people because in the food industry, you can't work in those conditions, so I do not see how treating sick patients would be any different. Go somewhere else if at all possible.
Fantastic experience: VERY NICE ER PEOPLE.
Negative experience: Worst experience I've ever had with hospital
