Our comment from Nutrifinder.net about Back 2 Basics Pediatric Therapy Services:
Back 2 Basics Pediatric Therapy Services offers a supportive and comprehensive approach to children's therapy, focusing on both feeding and speech therapy. Many families have praised the kindness, patience, and professionalism of the staff, particularly highlighting the expertise of therapists like Amanda and Ms. Kelsey, who have made significant positive impacts on children's development.
Clients have reported seeing remarkable progress, with children becoming more confident in trying new foods and improving their speech abilities. The flexible options for virtual and in-person appointments have also been appreciated by parents, making therapy more accessible.
While most experiences have been positive, there have been some concerns about the duration of sessions and communication. A few clients noted that the appointments could feel short, and they expressed a desire for more direct support during sessions. However, the overall consensus remains that Back 2 Basics is a valuable resource that helps children thrive with tailored support and care.
Whether you're navigating picky eating, speech delays, or seeking guidance for your child’s growth, Back 2 Basics is dedicated to helping families through these challenges with compassion and expertise.
Back 2 Basics Pediatric Therapy Services: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I went for my 7m old son’s feeding. They were so organized with their space, they asked great questions, and worked with him to help me see the root issue of what might be causing his trouble! They really listened to me and helped my advocate for him so he could be his best healthy self! Highly recommend- so professional and passionate about helping kids!
Thank you so much Carla! We appreciate the feedback and are so grateful to have served you and your family :)
Fantastic experience: Even there we were there a short time, my son learned a lot with Nicole, during nutrition counseling. Every staff cares and are very kind ! They offer both virtual and physical appointments which are helpful to parents.
Negative experience: New Update: Because the office chose to respond to my comment below with “throwing a rock and hiding hand approach” by saying “we are sorry etc. Back2Basics please be aware of the law; The No Surprises Act (NSA), which took effect in 2022. **Despite high ratings, the experience was subpar. Unsure how the actual feeding therapist was on an iPad while my kid only ate some snacks just to be charged outside of my insurance. It now makes sense why an estimate range was not even provided. And the promise to have an email *before* my card was charged also did not take place. Hopefully the short-term charge was worth not having a client long term because the service was certainly not an “Evaluation of oral and pharyngeal swallowing function”. The email did not include a number so no need to call or reply with reaching you.
We're truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We recognize how important transparency and communication are—especially when it involves your child’s care and financial clarity.
Our team is committed to providing clear and thorough information before a visit. All new patients receive a link to our “Questions to Ask Insurance” resource, which includes a full breakdown of our rates, billing codes, and a guide for confirming coverage with your specific insurance plan. Coverage for feeding therapy is ultimately determined by your insurance provider and the specifics of your plan. If we are in-network with your insurance, we submit claims directly and do not bill "outside" of network when that is the case.
We also prioritize communication. Every email we send includes contact information in the signature, and your new patient paperwork contains the direct phone number and email for our billing department. In addition, we provide an estimate of benefits as part of our onboarding process for new patients.
Although you’ve indicated you don’t want a follow-up, please know we value your feedback. It helps us continue to improve how we communicate and deliver care to families.
Fantastic experience: Ms. Kelsey has been wonderful with my son during food therapy. My son has tried more new foods with the OT in just a short time then he has in years. I would highly recommend Back 2 Basics!

Fantastic experience: Our family loves Back2Basics! We’ve seen Amanda B since December of 2024 and have always felt so rewarded after each appointment. From practical steps for implementing new foods with dietary education alongside Miss Kimberly and Miss Madeline, the support goes far. Nash at the front desk has helped with making appointments easy to schedule and remember. Accommodations go beyond virtual assistance, as she is always a pleasant face to see when entering the office and has even helped get us situated with an in-office iPad for extra ease! We are so grateful our PCP referred us here. :)
Thank you so much for this heartfelt review! We’re truly honored to be part of your family’s journey. It’s wonderful to hear how supported you’ve felt by Amanda B, Kimberly, Madeline, and Nash—each of them is dedicated to making every visit meaningful and smooth. We're especially glad the practical tools and education have made a difference for you. Your kind words mean the world to our team, and we’re so grateful your PCP referred you to us.
Fantastic experience: My 5 year old loves coming to Back 2 Basics for speech with Julianna! He’s been attending speech sessions with her for about 7 months and we’ve seen so much improvement in his speech and understanding! I’m always recommending them to other parents in the area who are looking for speech therapy, they offer other therapies as well!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that your 5-year-old loves coming to speech with Julianna—she brings so much care and skill to every session. It’s amazing to hear about the progress he’s made over the past 7 months, and we’re grateful for your kind recommendations to other families. We’re so glad to be part of his growth and look forward to continuing the journey with you!
Fantastic experience: People are nice here.
Fantastic experience: My daughter has been seeing Amanda at Back2Basics for a couple of months now and I have seen such a huge improvement in her speech. Amanda was able to quickly build rapport with my daughter and she demonstrates a vast amount of knowledge when it comes to both speech and feeding. She has taught my daughter so much in just a few short months and has also taught me many ways I can help my daughter at home. I highly recommend Back2Basics!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re so happy to hear about the progress your daughter has made and that Amanda has been such a great fit for your family. Her ability to connect with children and share her expertise in both speech and feeding is something we truly value. We're especially glad to hear that the support has extended beyond sessions and into your home. Thank you for trusting us and for the recommendation—it means so much!

Fantastic experience: We have been incredibly fortunate to have found Ms. Amanda. She has played a pivotal role in our son’s speech development. Her patience, dedication, and expertise have contributed significantly to his progress. From the beginning, she has provided invaluable guidance to us as parents, offering practical strategies to support his speech at home. We began working with Ms. Amanda in June, and it has truly been one of the best decisions we’ve made. At that time, our son was nearly non-verbal. Today, he is thriving speaking in full sentences, expressing his feelings, and continuing to grow with the support of occupational therapy. We wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Amanda and hope others are fortunate enough to connect with her. She is truly exceptional, and we will always be deeply grateful for the impact she has had on our son’s life.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and inspiring review. We are truly honored to have played a part in your son’s incredible progress. Ms. Amanda’s patience, dedication, and expertise make such a difference, and it’s wonderful to hear how her guidance has empowered your family both in therapy and at home. Seeing your son thrive and grow is what motivates all of us every day. We deeply appreciate your recommendation and are grateful to be part of your journey.

Fantastic experience: My name is Clark. I'm 10 years old and worked with Amanda for food therapy for about 5 months. I was a really picky eater but Ms. Amanda was kind and patient and easy to talk to. She helped me get comfortable with the foods I didn't like and now I've eaten a lot more than I ever thought I would.
Clark we are so proud of you! Thank you so much for your feedback, we shared your kind words with Mrs. Amanda and it warmed her heart :)
Negative experience: I came to back to basics with my 13 month old after trying to wean her off of formula under the pediatrician’s guidance. Unfortunately, my daughter was not eating enough to replace the calories from her formula bottles and was dealing with severe constipation. Many places had long waitlists and this place could see us in less than a week…perhaps the first red flag. Sessions were only 30 minutes long, as many have said, and were spent answering questions rather than getting support and guidance. After more direct requests for a treatment plan or diagnosis as to why she wasn’t eating we were only met with generic advice through email handouts and recipes. Nothing was usually given in person despite driving an hour for her appointments. They never provided an assessment or observed her eat. They mainly suggested she wasn’t hungry enough for solids due to her formula intake. We followed their advice to reduce the formula but were not given proper guidance as to how to ensure she was still gaining enough calories, despite sharing many times that she was still not eating. Long story short, my daughter drastically dropped in percentiles (almost off the chart entirely) after seeing them for two months. We emailed a few of the providers we were seeing with extreme concern and were met with plenty of apologies for her drop in percentiles without any accountability. One provider went so far as to tell me four days later that she was trying to work less to be more available for her little one and was glad we were now working with someone else. Reached out to the owner as well to share our experience but were told she was on vacation and would get back to us upon her return. Bottom line, there was very little concern for our daughter and her well being and very little monitoring of their recommendations and whether they’re appropriate for our child. Don’t be surprised to meet with two professionals at once for a 30 minute appointment in which only one of them speaks when you’re paying for both and when asking questions are quickly dismissed and told an email will be sent later. Hoping to find a new practice and sad over what this did to my daughter. Hoping to get her back up through hard work and guidance from other professionals who demonstrate more care and empathy.
Hi Priscila,
We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and the challenges your daughter has been facing. Your feedback is important to us, and we take it seriously as we continuously look for ways to improve our care and communication.
We understand your concerns regarding responsiveness and want to clarify that we value a healthy work-life balance for our team, which means we don’t expect staff to respond to emails or calls during evenings, weekends, or days they’re not in the office.
Our multidisciplinary approach—having both a dietitian and feeding therapist involved in sessions—is designed to provide comprehensive care, and we view this as a strength of our model. Session lengths do vary, and our records show that at least two of your appointments were full hour-long visits.
We know how stressful feeding challenges can be and truly wish your daughter continued growth and progress. We also hope you find a provider that feels like the right fit for your family. Thank you again for sharing your experience.
Warm regards,
Lindsey Carter, MS, RDN
Back 2 Basics
Fantastic experience: We came here with my 3 year old son for feeding therapy with Amanda. We started with in person sessions and once we got the feel for it switched to virtual. After seeing so much success with our son we incorporated my 6 year old daughter in to have sessions at the same time and their diets have vastly improved. Virtual appointments, together, first thing in the morning worked so well for us. They have now both been discharged from feeding therapy and I feel like I have all the resources I need to continue exposing them to new foods at home. We also had regular check ins with the Registered Dietitian who gave us so many good ideas for snacks and meals for our littles. We have had a great experience here.
Thank you so much!!!
Fantastic experience: We absolutely love Back2Basics! When our daughter needed feeding therapy we were able to quickly connect with a dietician and feeding therapist virtually. While hesitant at first about the virtual environment for feeding therapy, it could not have been a better experience. Working with Amanda has been one of the greatest reliefs as a new parent navigating the world of feeding and speech. It has not only helped our daughter better her skills with eating but has helped us grow confidence in helping her in that journey. Being able to do so from the comfort of our own home, or wherever we are, is an added bonus!
Yes virtual can be so effective! We are glad your daughter has grown her confidence and had a great experience :) Thank you so much for sharing!
Fantastic experience: I love our occupational therapist! I am so grateful to have these resources to help our child grow and thrive. I absolutely adore Valerie and finally feel like there’s hope we will make progress. Thank you all for doing what you do
You are so very welcome! Happy to hear your child is making progress. Thanks for the wonderful feedback.
Negative experience: I had issues post tongue tie release with my daughter being able to take a bottle as her tongue needed retraining. I clearly told the SLP that it wasn’t an issue of bottle refusal and that we already had tried suck training for weeks with no success. After our initial evaluation (which mind you lasted only 30 min as that’s how long every appointment is,) she sent me instructions on how to deal with bottle refusal as well as instructions for suck training. She also sent me information about nutrition and diet which I didn’t need because my baby was only 3m old. As a mom who has been struggling with this issue for months and had expressed my frustration with feeling like providers had ignored my motherly intuitions/observations, I was so angry I almost chucked my phone when I got those recommendations. If it was possible to give zero stars, I would.
Lauren, sorry you felt like you didn't receive the care you were looking for. We typically have 45min to 1 hour initial visits with our SLPs but when we don't have any available spots we will have our babies be seen in a 30 minute time slot because we realize how important it is to get them in quickly for care. We value your feedback and apologize the follow up care documents were not what you were looking for. We are always looking to improve patient care, and will take your feedback into consideration. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Amanda works with my son and just started working with my 14 month old, I can’t express how great she is, she made my son feel confident about himself and he now considers her a good friend! Not only is Amanda wonderful but Madeline is fantastic too. I’m so blessed for the both of them to be working with my babies. Thank you ladies for all you do!
Thank you so much for the feedback! Love to hear that they are good friends too :)
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about Back 2 Basics. My daughter started speech therapy in September and we've been working with Amanda. Amanda is amazing. She is so sweet and kind with my daughter and has become like family. She works with my daughter in our sessions but also gives me strategies to use at home to help bolster our progress. And my daughter's language has exploded since. I've seen such growth in speech, behavior, and confidence in my kiddo since working with Back 2 Basics and will be forever grateful!
Yay! Love to hear it, thanks for the feedback :)
Fantastic experience: After having a negative experience with another speech therapist, we switched to Amanda. My son immediately felt so comfortable with her and our first experience with her went so very differently - my son loved going to speech for the first time ever. She gets on his level, gains his trust, and makes it fun. We love her so much we followed her to this facility. We can see so much improvement since he started working with her. We can’t recommend her enough!
So glad to hear this!! Thank you for the feedback :)

She gets genuinely excited when she sees all the progress that he is making. We love this place and would recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Could not recommend Back 2 Basics enough! We had been waitlisted over various Therapy Services for years. Back 2 Basics got us in within a week! My daughter is absolutely in love with Amanda and looks forward to seeing her "speech teacher" every week. Amanda does an amazing job at keeping my 4.5 year old engaged over a virtual platform. I am in shock at the amount of progress we have made in a short amount of time. I truly don't know where our speech journey would be without them ☺️
Yay! So glad to hear thank you for sharing!

Fantastic experience: Words can not express the immense amount of gratitude we have for Amanda. She has helped both of our children come leaps and bounds with their language. My son is working on some simple fixes and building such a strong amount of confidence because of Amanda. While my daughter wasn’t really talking and meeting developmental standards and after a few sessions with Amanda, she is a totally new kid. She is so much happier and having significantly less meltdowns because we have finally figured out the language piece and now she’s expanding her vocabulary daily! We love Amanda and cannot recommend her enough!
Thank you for sharing, so glad we could help!

Fantastic experience: My grandson loves this place! Everyone is so helpful and professional.
Thank you Mr. Wrinn!! We appreciate your feedback :)
Negative experience: We attended a few sessions to help our picky eater with some techniques to gain weight. Enjoyed working with the counselor and made some progress. Counselor left and they switched us to someone else. From here, only gave us options for mid-day appointments. With a long commute and two other kids in school, this became a challenge. We missed one 24-hour notice cancellation and they charged us the full no-show fee. Refused to work with us on removing/reducing the fee. Left a bad taste so we decided to stop attending.
Fantastic experience: My son and I were at the lowest point when I found Back2Basics. I remember vividly how I felt and the panic I was experiencing as doctors were urging me to put my 12 year old son in an inpatient program so that he could gain weight. I knew that an inpatient program would be traumatizing and I scoured the internet trying desperately to find a place that had a patient, gentle approach to helping my son with ARFID. At this point he had lost weight and was not growing in height. He was frail, terrified to try new foods, and we were both so exhausted from all of the stress that food caused every day. I found the Back2Basics website and read it front to back. The closest office is about an hour drive for me but I thought it would be worth it and I didn’t care. They ended up offering me a virtual appointment and I was nervous that wouldn’t be a good fit but it turned out to be incredibly helpful, relieving some of the stress from the situation. Being at home, using his own utensils and plates, eating food that came from his home, these were all comforting things so it made things a bit less stressful. Things were rocking in the beginning. It was definitely a slow process. There were times when I still thought maybe I should consider an inpatient program, but we didn’t give up. Every week we met with Morgan and I literally cannot say enough about her and all that she has done for my son and I. In his words, “She literally saved my life.” He’s trying new foods, he’s not scared to be around foods that are new or uncomfortable, he’s eating all the food groups every day. This is a kid who went from eating Knorr’s Pasta sides, Belvitas, cucumbers, and pumpernickel toast every day to now eating a variety of foods. He will eat salads, apples with peanut butter, tofu, edamame, peas, carrots, and so much more. I don’t know where we would be if I hadn’t found Back2Basics and if we had not been connected with Morgan. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for saving my son’s life.
Fantastic experience: Back 2 Basics Nutrition was a phenomenal experience. We specifically worked with Taylar and she was great with our daughter, communicated with us and very responsive. As parents and our situation, Back 2 Basics Nutrition was just what our family needed to get everyone on a healthy / balanced track. They help for many different reasons, so if food is a battle at home with too much, too little, maybe wrong kinds or a mindset shift needed- they handle it all!
Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend the services from Back 2 Basics! We have had the best experience with Lindsey and Taylor. My daughter nearly completely stopped eating a few months ago, and with their help she is gaining weight, trying and eating many new foods, and our family now has the tools we need to continue our feeding journey. The sessions are informative, interactive and fun. They have shown us so much compassion and have provided us with the guidance we need. I am so happy that Back 2 Basics was recommended by our pediatrician and will be forever grateful for their support!
Fantastic experience: Ms. Taylor Green worked with my son for speech therapy. She made the sessions engaging and fun. She also gave us tips and advice to continue practicing at home.
Thank you so much for the feedback!
Fantastic experience: We've only had a few visits so far, but my picky eater has tried several new things already and claimed she loved them! Success! Lots of useful information and everyone is very nice and helpful.
Fantastic experience: My nutritionist is very nice and gives me lots of good advice for my eating habits
Fantastic experience: I can not say enough nice things about Back 2 Basics. My toddler has been going there for speech therapy and absolutely loves it. Ms. Morgan is so nice and makes learning fun. She takes the time to get to know the child and what strategies work best to get them excited about learning. I love that at every session she also takes the time to discuss with me the progress my daughter has made over the past week and any concerns I may be having. I highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: We were very happy with the services, the office was easy to find and very neat and clean. The nutrition services helped me and my daughter with her eating issues and helped my daughter learn to eat properly as an athlete. Would recommend to anyone that has children with eating/nutrition issues. My daughter loved working with her dietitian.
Fantastic experience: My 6yo was losing weight last year because she gets so distracted she forgets to eat. She had chronic constipation because she refused to eat fiber. We had 1 - ONE - meeting with Madeline and started following some simple mindfulness eating rules. It completely changed my daughter's relationship with food. We put away the iPad/videos for 5 minutes each meal and we talked about the texture, the warmth or coolness, the details of the food. Food became less boring, and more interesting. We started including Vee in the food preparation process. She still doesn't eat broccoli, but she's eating good and growing good. And no more tummy troubles. Super grateful for Back2Basics Nutrition team.
So glad we could help! Thank you for the wonderful feedback :)
Fantastic experience: What a gem of a resource so close to Frederick! My daughter's pediatrician recommended Back 2 Basics for much needed help and guidance. Lindsey is so patient, knowledgeable, caring, non-judgmental, and a great listener. My daughter looks forward to her appointments and she's a teenager!
Thank you so much! That is the highest compliment :) We look forward to seeing her too!
Fantastic experience: Going to “food school” is my 3 year old’s favorite part of the week!! We have seen huge improvements in his picky eating (and our stress during meal time) already! Ms. Morgan and Ms. Lindsey are phenomenal!!
Thank you so much! This is exactly why we do what we do, happy to help!
Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend Back 2 Basics Nutrition. Lindsay helped us navigate moving from milk to solid food with a very picky eater. Thank you!!
So happy to help! Thank you for the review :)
Fantastic experience: We were referred here by our Childs PCP since our child is following a vegetarian diet. Our nutritionist (Lindsey Carter) was wonderful, knowledgeable and very helpful, would highly recommend.
Thank you so much! It was my pleasure!
Fantastic experience: Love love love Lindsey and all the helpful information she has given us to help our now 10m old become a better eater. We were a bit apprehensive about telehealth appointments but we got the same service as if it were in office. Lindsey listens to all our concerns and helps address everything we have questions about. Totally recommend!!!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Telehealth has been adventure and we are so glad to still see those smiling faces, just in a different way :)
Fantastic experience: I was very happy to work with Lindsey and would definitely recommend her. She provided sound nutritional counseling and gentle encouragement. She answered my questions and gave good recommendations for varying foods, how to count calories, supplements, and probiotics that were allergen-free for my baby. I appreciated the handouts each time as well, and have hung a few on our fridge as reminders. Lindsey was friendly and laidback when I brought my baby as well, and her office was inviting and had toys and space to play, which I appreciated as well. Thank you for helping our baby meet his nutritional goals!
Thank you so much it was my pleasure!
Fantastic experience: I was concerned about what & how much to feed my 1 year old when she transitioned from beast milk. Lindsey was very helpful. She assessed my daughter’s needs and provided education that allows me to choose healthy meals that my daughter can enjoy.
Thank you, it was my pleasure!
Fantastic experience: My daughter and I had multiple visits and have learned so much. It has become a part of our norm to have Protein, Grains, Fruit and Veggies with our meals. Lindsay makes it easy to eat healthy. I loved how personable and she was to work with. And bigger than anything, our visits were never about weight loss. Rather about a healthier lifestyle. If we need refreshers or help in the future we will be back for sure :) !!!
Thank you so much! I’m so grateful to have been a part of your journey :)
Fantastic experience: Great experience working with Lindsey! Will definitely come back should we have any issues in the future.
Thank you!!
Fantastic experience: Lindsey is wonderful! I felt that she was genuinely interested in helping my daughter. She created an environment that was warm and welcoming to my children and offered practical and useful tips. As a mother of young children herself, she fully understood some of the daily challenges and was supportive and creative in her advice. I would highly recommend her to anyone!
Thank you!! I really appreciate your kind words :)
Fantastic experience: Lindsey is very knowledgeable and I felt from the beginning that she truly cared and wanted to help. She is a great communicator and listener and always presents new ideas in a respectful and non-threatening way. She has a cute play area connected to her office for kids to play while the adults talk. Working with her for my son has been great. I highly recommend!

Thank you Mrs. Gettig!
Fantastic experience: Thank you so much for your information and help in getting Kyrie to eat better. You have helped immensely. She's been eating well and a larger variety of foods. My husband and I are so happy with where she is now. I feel like she's made quite the improvement in her diet. I cannot express my gratitude for your advice and support.
We are happy to help! Thank you!
Fantastic experience: As a mom of a 4 year old, I cannot emphasize enough how eternally grateful I am that I found Lindsey Carter, a Pediatric nutritionist. The amount of knowledge and support Lindsey gave me, helped my son improve passing his stools regularly as well as his overall nutrition. I tell every passing mom I know, if they ever need help with any child related diet and/or growth and development issue, do not hesitate to call her!
Thank you!! Your kind words are so good to hear :) It was a privilege working with you and your family!
Fantastic experience: First off I just wanted to say again how amazing it was to meet you. I'm so very thankful to find that our philosophies are largely shared! I had a blast talking with you :)… I'm seeing my son's excesses and short falls as I track his diet and already have a few topics I need some help on for next time. Thanks so much again
