Fantastic experience: Rebecca, the intake assessor from the Emily Program, worked with me in consultation with my therapist to assess for the lowest level of care and got me scheduled promptly with an outpatient team. She answered all of my questions knowledgeably and thoroughly, and listened respectfully to my barriers, motivations, supports, and the small successes I have already had in beginning to turn around a mild relapse. Due to receiving the appropriate level of care, rather than assigned to IOP out of an initial abundance of caution, I feel like my ability to regain remission and continue moving forward with my recovery from anorexia nervosa has been acknowledged, buffered, and enhanced.

Negative experience: On jan 27 of 2025. My dad was found dead in his bed at this facility. He msged me the night before begging to go to the er and they told him no. The last msges I have from him was of him in pain and and begging. He promised to call me in the morning but instead of him calling my mother called me crying. She said my dad was found dead in his bed. They failed him. They failed to provide medical even when asked. If I could give no stars I would. Don't send your loved one here. He passed down his eating disorder to me. But with therapy and loved ones you can over come it to.

Positive experience: Knew somebody personally that participated in treatment hear some years ago in adolescents and TEP seemed very helpful for them. In my referral process I also heard an incredibly large amount of good things about it. My experience (to specify - in adult residential) did not end up living to that expectation though. To be fair to them, my circumstances weren't great going into it anyway. I was pregnant going into residential treatment and generally not feeling well physically of mentally. I was only there for 3 days, and honestly I think had I not ended up getting so extremely sick from the large increase very suddenly in intake - I just might have had a good experience and I would have continued to stay through the entirety of my residential. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. Firstly, from my experience you get immediately throw head first in the very second you get there. Within the same day of getting there, I was eating about 4-5 times the amount I was eating at home - which was A LOT. If you didn't complete it you had to supplement and if you didn't complete the supplement then they documented it everytime. I ate so much within 2 days that I began getting headaches and began getting EXTREMELY sick - like I threw up involuntarily in front of others. It was miserable and also destroyed my dignity quite honestly. At one point I had thrown up on myself, my clothes, and the wall so I had to take a shower and whilst showering I literally cried from the worry I had accidentally thrown up on someone (luckily, I did not). Directly after this, within 10 or so minutes, the came to me and told me I HAD TO go to groups regardless of how sick I was and how embarassed I was of what had happened. I got to a point that this happened several times, and I refused to participate in groups which I was met with staff coming in CONSTANTLY to try to make me get up and go - some even went as far as to threaten to have me kicked out if I didn't comply. After 3 days of that, I threw up the surrender flag and signed out AMA. Honestly, had I not been pregnant I may have had an easier time with the transition and I could see my treatment having been at least tolerable. And the staff were mostly WONDERFUL and so kind to me. If my circumstances were to be different and the opportunity came that I could try it again, I am hopeful it could be different and could be so much more helpful to me. If it were the same experience the second time, I'd NEVER suggest it to a single soul - but honestly I would definetly try again and give it another chance befor making such a call which is why I give it 3 stars.

Negative experience: Hi ,y name is Stephen Champ . I am writing this in regardes to care of the child at this facility. My daughter was admitted on May 19 2025. She has an extreme case of Pika , Anorexic, and behavioral problems. She is now 48 hour later being terminated from the program because the staff at this location can't get blood, I understand the importance of getting the blood but not really understand how it is you and your staff was incapable of get a blood sample for a 15 yr old child. As I was sitting there observing the difficulty they were have with all the games they tried to get her to give blood, the last person trying to get blood, said directly tomy daughter that if she could give blood she couldn't stay? And of course as sick minded children that they are ,she took that an ran wild with not giving blood,as expected she made it where no one could touch her and now I am left to pick my daughter up at 10p. At night because they can't do a simple blood draw from a child. So if you are truly look for help for you child. I would absolutely suggest you rethink of this location. Thanks for reading and hopefully finding the correct kind of help these children are in need of

Fantastic experience: One of the few places in Columbus to be able to link individuals that are struggling with an eating disorder. The team is extremely knowledgeable on everything eating disorder including when there is also mental health and /or addiction mixed in. I have never had a bad experience when working with them and they always answer my questions quick and efficiently. A truly remarkable program.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to The Emily Program for years and have always, always received exceptional care. Throughout my highs and lows and life changes, they have been there. I'd recommend them a thousand times over. I have a hard time speaking with anyone else other than my Psychologist/Therapist, he is the absolute best. I've never had a complaint in years. That says so so much! Not a single complaint!! As a whole entity, they are well polished and appreciated! Thank you!

Positive experience: It's been a year since I first admitted to the Emily Program in Columbus, OH. I wanted to wait and review until I had time to process my residential treatment in a way that could be helpful to other individuals seeking help. I started my treatment journey in April 2024. I had NEVER sought out treatment for my eating disorder before then. I spent many hours researching different treatment options, centers, and programs. My home state (KY) does not have a lot of resources for mental health, let alone resources for eating disorders. After searching for what seemed like forever, I landed on The Emily Program. It is everything it says on it's website. Trauma informed. Structured. Wholistic. The Emily Program saved my life. Literally. I have had an eating disorder for nearly 18 years. I'm in my late 20s- my ED is/was very deeply engrained in me. Before admitting into their residential program, I sought out help from my PCP who said that I should seek out an IOP program and that I'd probably be fine with that (it was not/I was not). The Emily Program saw me. They heard what I was saying and I had a bed within a week of intake. I spent 12 1/2 weeks with the Emily Program, collectively (I did relapse and had 2 stays.. but they welcomed me back with open arms and did not at all make me feel ashamed for relapsing and having to come back, which was a really hard pill to swallow, but they helped me process that as well). I didn't know what to expect, I was away from what little support I had wrangled, and I jumped in feet first. The staff at the Emily Program helped ease that transition into what is ultimately a (VERY) emotionally charged situation, as is any type of treatment. They bring compassion with assertiveness and that is NEEDED in eating disorder therapy. Eating disorders are vicious and cyclical and sometimes assertion is needed to break cycles. There is a fair amount of autonomy as far as residential treatment is concerned, and none of the staff act like they don't want to be there and that is IMPORTANT. TEP tries to hear the needs of the community while also trying to prioritize individual care. Treatment teams comprise of RDs, therapists, medication management, medical staff, peer support, and truthfully, each staff member that works there. It's a sucky situation to be in, the staff recognizes that, and they try to humanize the residents and clients that, in turn, helps them (us) to humanize ourselves. Treatment is hard. Treatment is hard because it goes against the core beliefs your eating disorder has convinced you of. It matters where you seek treatment because of that. You have to feel safe enough to allow yourself to be challenged. The Emily Program helped me to do that. While recovery is not linear and while I still struggle at times, I am constantly pulling information and using skills I gained from TEP. And, not for nothing, there was a period sometime after discharging for the second time that I was desperately looking for resources and kept coming up empty handed. I reached out to the Emily Program to see if they knew of any resources, and within that same week, I had an email in my inbox with several different options for treatment near me. This was and will probably remain to be one of the hardest experiences of my life, but TEP and the staff there have helped me to be open and remain open to the idea that I am worthy of seeking help. And for that I will forever be grateful. If ever you need a sign, this is it.

Fantastic experience: The Emily Program ASIOP was a wonderful experience. I was nervous about doing a program with such a hefty time commitment, but it was the best experience I could have asked for and well worth the time spent. The clinicians were all knowledgeable, down to earth, caring, and supportive. I developed a lot of tools and skills to address my eating disorder and feel my overall health and mental health have improved significantly. I would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: All the clinicians, therapists, dieticians and other staff are knowledgeable and exceedingly helpful. The information, materials, skills work and videos provided are extremely helpful in a mind shift away from diet culture thinking. I never thought I would be able to change my mind set and get the binge eating/thoughtless grazing under control, but through The Emily Programs PHP and IOP programs, I am managing and finally controlling my eating disorder.

Envy The mortician 1 year ago

Negative experience: They recommended me to IP and I told them it's not an option at the moment. So they started me on outpatient, gave me a therapist, and then basically told me I should have never made it that far in the process because of the severity of my condition. They want me to find my own dietician (my insurance doesn't cover theirs and it's not their fault) to even be considered to continue treatment but couldn't give me a yes or no on wether or not doing those things would keep my spot. Instead of telling me no, that they could not help me, they dragged out the process just long enough to probably get paid by my insurance so they could dump me. Everyone I've spoken to has been nice and as helpful as possible but if you're in a complex situation the odds are against you

Joshua Corcoran 1 year ago

Positive experience: The staff was wonderful and caring and did everything possible to help me during my stay. The doctors, nurses, dietitians and BCT's all amazing. I wish I could have stayed longer and completed treatment but due to other co-occurring medical issues I had to leave sooner than I wanted. The program is inside an office building so its not quite like home but I thought overall they did a wonderful job and I hope one day to return to treatment here.

Negative experience: This program was incredibly damaging; it destroyed my progress and ruined my health. I grew much sicker than I was when I entered. Before I started the program, I had made significant progress during the eight-month waitlist period, which my parents noticed. Despite repeatedly telling the counselors about my improvement, they failed to acknowledge it, giving me no credit for the progress I had made. Initially, my parents trusted the professionals, but they soon realized the rigidity of their methods was harmful to my recovery. They attempted to withdraw me from the program, but were unable to, despite the fact that I had already met my criteria for release. A psychiatrist involved in my care confirmed that I should have been released and was equally upset when she discovered the program's refusal to discharge me. She also validated the strides I had made in my personal recovery, independent of the program. I repeatedly asked the counselors to check my weight range before forcing me into the program, but they did not. When they discovered I was within my weight range from the start, they extended my stay as a "punishment" for speaking with the other girls in the program. They frequently threatened to send an ambulance to my house, causing immense trauma. They made food feel like a punishment and tore my family apart. The program convinced us that there was no such thing as unhealthy food, and if we struggled to finish our meals, we were forced to pick up crumbs or lick our plates clean on camera in front of everyone. We weren't allowed to eat "healthy" foods. This experience was dehumanizing and worsened my relationship with food. Although I had been sick before, I was getting better on my own. After the program, however, I became so sick that I was on the verge of death. Their brainwashing made me reluctant to seek further help. I hope every doctor or caregiver considering this program reads this letter and understands that it is not a place that helps people. Instead, it brainwashes participants, subjects them to dehumanizing situations, and ultimately makes them much sicker. The trauma from this experience made me feel too scared to seek further help.

Negative experience: You guys brainwash kids into thinking food is just food, processed foods aren't a thing, "unhealthy" and "healthy" isn't a thing because it's "food labeling " , you shouldn't limit yourself to refined sugar and junk food, etc. I watched my best friend walk into this place having a horrible mindset and watched her walk out with another horrible one.

Fantastic experience: Helped me a lot when I was at my lowest point and the EDTs understood when I was struggling.. they didn't try to push things and helped and everyone there was understanding and kind.. the other patients there were always kind and supportive and although I do not miss being in that situation, I do miss the people.. every worker was so kind and understanding and they each hold an important place in my heart..

Hello, and thank you for bringing this feedback to our attention. As a result of this feedback, our Facilities and Compliance team in partnership with the leadership of our Columbus site investigated this concern. While we welcome feedback on how we can improve, this report is unsubstantiated.

We have no reports, concerns, or evidence of roach presence in our kitchens. The Emily Program regularly exceeds all cleanliness and safety standards required by our state and county licenses and our own standards to provide the highest quality of care in comfortable and safe facilities. In addition to our own policies and procedures, our facilities are subject to rigorous annual inspections by regulators, none of which have identified pest control issues. If you or someone you know is considering care, please know that we understand how important it is that our facilities feel safe and comfortable. We know how challenging eating disorder treatment and recovery can be, many of us first hand, and we proudly provide an experience and environment that supports the hard work of recovery.

Negative experience: Res. Was okay They're not trauma informed so if you have a ED related to trauma, I doubt this place will offer you much help. Their target demo is upper middle class white women. This office in Columbus is TERRIBLE. I’ve been to 3 programs but this was by far the worst. We didn’t have a dietician for 2 weeks on the adult unit but were still expected to pay for client services. Therapist was also the worst I’ve ever had her name started with a K and she did not try to get to know me or build trust at all and spoke in a robotic tone of voice. Just a weird atmosphere in general, i don’t recommend.

Negative experience: My brother ran away from their clinic in columbus, and all they did was call the police and describe him to the police. Other than that they did next to nothing and call the police every hour. My brother could be dead by now and they couldn't even help much. If your child is reluctant to go I highly do not recommend going there. They will do nothing if this situation happens.

The Emily Program Eating Disorder Outpatient Treatment Center
The Emily Program Eating Disorder Outpatient Treatment Center

Hi Ella, thank you for sharing your concerns. While we can’t speak to specific situations here, please know, client health and safety is a top priority, especially in emergency situations. In general, if an emergency situation occurs at our facility, we work with emergency responders, a client's parent or legal guardian if an adolescent, and the client themselves in responding to the situation and ensuring the client receives appropriate support. We understand that people may be reluctant to get care for an eating disorder; that reluctance can be part of the impact these illnesses have on people. Families often share with us what a difficult decision it is to pursue care for their loved one when that individual is reluctant to get care. They also share how grateful they are that they made that decision because it helped make such a positive difference in the life of their loved one. For this and many other reasons, our model of care includes our staff working with clients and families individually to anticipate and respond to the unique needs of their loved one. To continue the conversation, your family may call the Patient Advocacy Line at 919-767-0264 or email us at [email protected].

Positive experience: I attended The Emily Program a few months ago and ultimately do credit it with saving my life. I will say that the “all-in” approach with food exposure was 100% not sustainable and did do more harm than good in some ways (I still can’t eat pizza b/c of bad memories associated with pizza Fridays LOL). But I understand why they choose this method and overall did have a positive experience during my time here.

Thank you for your review, Nadia. We can say that eating disorders treatment often includes a lot of interventions around eating and restoration of health that can be challenging. We also know how hard it is to make the changes that are truly helpful in regaining or establishing a peaceful relationship with food, body, and self. Please know we strive to provide excellent care and thank you for sharing your feedback as it can help us continually improve.

Fantastic experience: The Emily Program has unbelievably saved my life. I thought that this program could not help me and it did the exact opposite. They have amazing staff that are there for you 24/7 and I’ve built life-long friendships with the other clients there. As much as I love that place, I hope I never have to go back. Thank you for saving me.

Fantastic experience: I was asked to write an essay on how I have grown morally as a person in the past year. I wrote about my experience with the emily program, and I thought I’d share it with anyone wondering what the experience was like. “…Along side this, my eating disorder took a turn for the worst. I was so malnourished that I couldn’t balance, I was dizzy all the time, and even talking took so much energy, that I was no longer able to express myself. It was constant doctors appointment after road-trip after doctors appointment to get me treatment, and I spend months fighting to survive everyday. There were no breaks, no time to step back, and no room to make error. It was either I eat, or — (there would be serious consequences). I finally received treatment with an amazing residential facility in Columbus, Ohio. I was there for 7 weeks. I missed prom, I missed home, and I missed being myself. However, that time there allowed me to regain control of my eating disorder, and exposed me to so many wonderful peers that not only understood, but related. I found my self-worth again, I had energy, and therefore, I felt like me. The break I needed all along was there, I just had to fight for it. Recovery is not linear, but I am on a track I am determined to finish, no matter how many boundaries I must set, however many friendships I may lose, or more. I’m living for myself and my joy. I am, morally, at peace.” In addition, this programs’ groups allowed me to interact with coping skills and real-life situations I might have encountered in real life. They were engaging and genuinely helped me learn how to set boundaries, practice self-worth, and advocating for myself. The employees were so wonderful. They all were there because they cared about us and wanted to help us. No one ever made us feel alone, or like we were weak, or threw a pity party. We were treated as human beings, and friends. We knew we consistently had support when we needed it, and no matter rain or shine, someone would be there to help support us. We were never alone in this fight. I am at a point in my recovery where before treatment, I would’ve just relapsed and begun my unhealthy habits again. However, due to my treatment team and the support of others, I am more motivated than ever to live my life in love with myself, my body, and the world around me. This is super cheesy, and many of you may not believe me, but this place is truely one of the best treatment facilities I’ve ever been to, and I know that if I ever needed residential treatment again (hopefully not) that this is the first place I’d go. Sorry for the ramble, lol.

Fantastic experience: I had struggled with an ED since I was 12. I never realized how badly it affected my life until adulthood, I went to the Cleveland residential and got help. They are the most kind and caring staff. They really helped rewire my brain. I now live a successful life because of these guys thank you! ❤️

Positive experience: There is a lot of wonderful things that can be said. Res in Cleveland saved my life, but as an organization in whole, it is truly a work in progress. Stumbling blocks since the merger, but maybe TEP way of doing things was a good thing.

Fantastic experience: My daughter would not have recovered without them. It’s the help we’ve been needing for years that we didn’t know we needed. Although she hated it at first, she left there feeling a fondness for the providers and the environment. She understands herself more and is committed to recovery.

Fantastic experience: The staff here truly cares about their patients. My daughter came here for res, had to up her care to Veritas, then came back for PHP and IOP. During res, she had truly reached her low point. She just didn’t care and had no want to recover. She would have never seen how much the staff really cared about her recovery with her ED brain in control. They always had her best interest and gave her the tough love she needed in a kind way. Once she was further along in her recovery and came back from Veritas, she went through PHP and IOP, there she has been able to refine her skills to beat the ED. Her ED brain is very quiet now and she has been able to regain control of her brain again. She’s still early in recovery, but with the help she’s received, they have made what seemed impossible possible. She is back to being her again, I see my daughter again.

Fantastic experience: Emily Program has literally saved my life. I was in treatment in 2021 when I was doing PHP online. My cohort was so nice and the staff constantly told us that we acted like we were in person. After being in recovery for a while they reached out to me to be a recovery speaker. It is so good to be able to connect with more people to feel comfortable with and to be able to share each other's stories. It was extremely difficult being in the treatment because you had to push through eating. It was truly uncomfortable but that is just the step of recovery. Your ED brain makes you think everyone is out to get you but that is not the case and the staff truly cares for you.

Negative experience: i was a patient at the emily program and i will say that i received no true help for my eating disorder. All they cared about was my weight and forcing me to eat to the point i felt nauseous and they treated all patients like we were in a daycare and had to babysit us 24/7 like we were on lockdown. I lost all self control and i’ve been out for months and i still haven’t gained a lot of that back. It’s made my ed worse then it was, yes i’m eating but i don’t want too because i still have the mindset that i was taught in residential and that was to force myself to eat whether i want too or not and i still feel forced causing me to not wanna eat which is so irritating because i don’t want that mindset anymore. The emily program can be useful to some people but for me i had a horrible experience

Negative experience: My daughter started in their residential program and it was such an awful experience. The therapist seemed merely robotic and were not transparent about my daughters recovery process. I literally had no clue as to what she was eating, learning or doing on a daily basis. I will say we pushed through and stepped down to the php program luckily the therapist were real human beings and willing to offer true support.

Hi Melissa, we are sorry to hear about your and your child’s awful experience in residential. Having a child with an eating disorder that requires residential treatment is a stressful and difficult experience, one that we hope and strive to support families through. Your experience is not what we hope for. Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are very interested in hearing feedback from clients and families during and after their care experience to help us do the best job we can for the people we serve. We understand that family involvement is critical and will continue to regularly assess our communication processes and involvement of families in the care of their loved ones. If you would like to continue the conversation please call the Patient Advocacy Line at 919-767-0264 or email us at [email protected].

Negative experience: Treated my patient (who is also physically disabled) in an unacceptable and I daresay discriminatory manner throughout the entire treatment program and upon discharge. Eating disorders are life threatening and should be treated as such when someone seeks help regardless of their perceived differences in background. Did not even make the effort to show empathy and be helpful. It is sad they seem to genuinely be in the business for the money and lack the empathy and compassion for all patients they should possess.

Negative experience: Absolutely despicable place. When it was The Center For Balanced Living, they were amazing. Loved them and they actually cared and worked with you on payments. When they became the Emily Program, they went down hill. No one cares about the situation you’re in. I paid off my account the beginning of 2022 when I left with my therapist. Now at the end of 2022 they say I owe them $400 from May/June of 2021?! When I tried to explain to them and show my receipt they said it was a “billing error” and to talk to my insurance. I called and fixed it with my insurance at the beginning of 2022 so insurance has everything current. But now the Emily Program says it’s not and is sending it to collections! Absolutely ridiculous. Guess that’s what happens when you become a “for profit” place.

Dylan Saad 3 years ago

Negative experience: Office staff is a joke. The nonprofit that used to be there was amazing for my wife, but once the Emily program bought them out they became a joke. They claim that my wife still owes them over $400 still, even though my wife has paid everything so she didn't have to deal with them any more. They keep sending letters threatening to send it to collections, and when called, their only response was that we need to call our insurance and deal with it, and basically do there job for them. We owe them nothing and they will not stop harassing us falsely claiming that we owe them.

Fantastic experience: The Emily Program in Columbus saved my child's life. They have an entire team of specialists that works with each child. I am so very grateful for each and every person there. If you have a concern or issue when your child is there they take it very seriously and address the issue. What a blessing that this place exists!! They taught my daughter coping skills that will serve her for the rest of her life. As a family, we also learned so much on how to support our kid and prevent relapse. So very grateful for their help!! Thank you!

Negative experience: Wish I could give them no stars but I’ll give them one. Patients in there were supportive but the EDT’s were not. I was a patient there, they denied me to brush my teeth after I had gotten sick, made me puke in front of everyone cause they refused to take me somewhere when I told them I was getting sick (that can be very triggering for other people), they denied me to take a shower my second day until my mom had called and I informed her about them denying me personal hygiene which is neglect, I was being forced fed and forced to eat stuff my mom had informed them I didn’t like, they give you 15 minutes to drink two boosts on top of whatever you had ate, you can only call your family at 6pm and only get a 10 minute phone call, I was denied a basic need of water to rinse my mouth out after I had gotten sick, lastly but most of all they were keeping me against my will when my mom tried to sign me out and told her she wasn’t allowed to (even after I went in there voluntarily and that’s kidnapping) she had to threaten to call the police before they released me. From my experience it made my anorexia worse and I haven’t been able to keep anything down for the past 5 days. I would not recommend, it’s not how they make it to be. They lied and it was all just a money scam and they make it look nice but its really not!

Negative experience: Avoid! My doctor gave me a referral to this place. The intake therapist said she would email me a list of individuals to see, never did. Instead she emailed me to say that actually, I would be better suited for their IOP program instead. It would have been $10k out of pocket and once she knew I wasn't interested... because I couldn't afford it... (I have a family of 5 and paying a copay would be better suited for us... especially in the midst of a PANDEMIC)... I have heard NOTHING since. Someone was supposed to call me from the "financial department" to maybe work something out and I heard nothing from them. No follow up. Seriously. Nothing. From anyone!!! Are these people therapists and medical professionals... or salesmen? Disgusting! I'll consider it a blessing. I have found a wonderful eating disorder nutritionist and therapist ON MY OWN. They are great and worth every red cent!
