Private personal training is available at numerous gyms and exercise studios in Nashville, Berry Hill, Franklin, and Antioch, or we will come to your home. You do not have to join a gym! We have arrangements with these workout facilities so you can work with our personal trainers there with no gym membership.

Fantastic experience: Working with Libby has been fantastic! She is a very knowledgeable trainer who provides thorough guidance for how to execute each exercise correctly and safely. She has a carefully planned routine (3 sessions per routine) that we rotate through, and she changes things up after we’ve gone through 7 rounds of each routine. She adapts our workout to any preferences and limitations that come up. I’ve been with Basics and Beyond for almost a year now, and I’ve achieved the goals l set out for myself. I’ve been very happy with the progress I’ve made which centered around resistance training and improved balance. I really enjoy going to their gym and have gotten to know a lot of the regulars there! Everyone is very friendly and supportive. It is a great environment to be in with folks of all ages working hard to accomplish their own goals. Dan, the director, is very easy to work with and does a great job learning what your goals are and matching you with the right trainer. Highly recommend this place!
Fantastic experience: Reached out by email and listed my goals and current progress. Dan responded promptly and I was soon training with Nathan. Nathan is a great personal trainer, is flexible and listens to the trainee. It can be fun, there is a relationship created with a good personal trainer! Have made good progress on my back problems and general fitness. Other trainers have been kind and respectful of space (often overlooked), offer helpful advice, and the gym has a variety of well-maintained equipment. Have had previous personal training experiences and this is a quality service. Is a pleasant walk if you live nearby. Would recommend.

Fantastic experience: I've been working with Libby for a couple of months now, and I can honestly say she's been amazing in helping me get comfortable with functional movements. As someone new to this type of training, I was a little nervous at first, but Libby has been incredibly supportive every step of the way. She takes the time to explain each movement and always makes accommodations on the spot if something feels off or if I need adjustments. Her personalized approach makes a huge difference, and I always feel like I'm getting the right level of challenge without feeling overwhelmed. Fantastic experience: Libby was exactly what I needed to get back into working out! She makes our workouts fun, yet challenging. When we started, we set goals and she catered the workouts to my fitness level. Each week she increases my challenge and notes how much I’ve progressed. Libby has made it fun and easy to make working out a priority!

Fantastic experience: Libby is great! I’ve had chronic pain in my low back/hip for years due to a functional length discrepancy. At times I could barely function and was sleeping on a heating pad every night. Since starting my pain is nearly gone. 10/10 would recommend.

Fantastic experience: I am a 52 y/o female and am going through menopause and had changes over the years to my body that I was not ok with. I have worked out consistently since I was 16. I was in the Army, and continued my workouts throughout the years. I have had 3 children along the way as well. I thought I was consistent and doing everything right. On the weekends I would let loose with my food intake and alcohol, thinking I was ok and would drill down during the week. However, I could not get rid of my love handles and extra body fat. Then I met Dan and started the “nutritionist journey.” Damn if I was doing it wrong. Now, I eat 5 times a day, I understand what foods should be consumed and when, and what shouldn’t. I have learned compromises to make with myself when I go out to eat and when I drink. In 12 weeks I have lost an inch on my waist and 1.5 inches in my hips. My clothes fit so much better and I feel better overall! Lots of energy for workouts and thru the day. I threw away my scale a couple years ago, and only measure. If you are considering starting this work, do it! You will not regret it!!!

Fantastic experience: Even though I considered myself a "healthy eater", I still couldn't budge my weight. I was stuck. What I really needed was accountability, and someone knowledgeable to tweak my food choices. So I signed up for Basics and Beyond's Nutrition Coaching program, and in just one month I have lost 2 inches in my waist and 4 inches in my hips! I am very pleased with these results. I enjoy getting new ideas for meals. My coach has trained me to recognize my mindless eating, and how I unknowingly had too many "extras". He is very supportive, and calls me to discuss my next move to attain my goals. This is great support, and I highly recommend it!

Fantastic experience: I participated in Basic and Beyond's Quarantine 15 program. Thanks to the program, I don't crave sweets, chocolate, or bread; all of which are HUGE for me. I also lost weight, feel more alert, and have not had a fibromyalgia flare since I started it. This means more to me than anything because I've suffered for years with fibro, and have spent all that time desperately trying to figure out what my triggers were for the flares, as well as how to manage cravings. I cannot express into words how great I feel! The menu was wonderful and I still used the recipes. And my husband loves them as well! God bless you, Dan! I cannot recommend them enough. Just go once...you will be glad you did.

Fantastic experience: I contacted Dan as I was looking for a nutrition coach who could help me with consistency and commitment to healthy eating and keep me from getting off track. My results from working with Dan exceeded my expectations and his advice significantly contributed to losing over 20 lbs. in the first month of working together. Dan had been a great resource for ideas on how to maintain healthy eating in a consistent fashion. His advice is not cookie cutter but client focused and personalized. What I enjoy most about working with Dan is that he is a steady partner when things get off track or get complicated. I find Dan to be pleasant, practical and easy to discuss issues with. Fantastic experience: How do you begin to write a review, when the man about whom you are writing, cannot be captured by words alone? Dan DeFigio has been in my life, as my trainer, my therapist(physical and mental--sorry about that Dan), my nutritionist, my life coach, and, above all, my friend, for 28 years. Dan has taken my broken body(from numerous back surgeries), and strengthened me/conditioned me, to be able to have a life again. Free of pain. Dan has always found the solution to help me find the precise way to allow my body to heal and function; something no other trainer has ever been able to do. Over all of that however, is the compassion, kindness and brilliance of a gentle man with a huge heart. Thank you Dan. You have given me my life back. Fantastic experience: I had tried “eating healthy” many times before. I would always burn our eating the same things over and over again. Dan’s system has been a game changer for me. Having the grocery list at the beginning of the week, letting me know exactly what I need to buy is so easy. I’m never overeating because I have exactly what I need for each meal and it’s filling. I have a roofing company and am always on the go, this is one less thing that I have to think about. Have lost 16 lbs in a month and a half and feel great! 10/10 recommend.

Fantastic experience: I have been attending Basics and Beyond for a few weeks! My trainer Cassidy is wonderful. She is energetic and pushes me! I am not a morning workout person but my 8 am sessions fly by. The gym is clean, everyone wears masks and they clean every piece of equipment after you use it. The prices are great and there is no contract. This is exactly what I was looking for!

Fantastic experience: I have very significant back issues: scoliosis, stenosis, spondylosis. Back and hip pain. After just one visit with Dan, I felt better and stronger as he corrected some daily habits that were straining my back. He is easy to talk to and work with. Dan gives clear instructions and communicates well to see if I am doing okay or have any questions or concerns between sessions. I strongly recommend Dan for anyone having serious back problems. Don’t have back surgery!! Try to correct things you may be doing wrong. Let Dan help YOU!

Anyone seeking a personal trainer needs to know that there are specific exercises you should do - and NOT do - if you have a back injury, so make sure any trainer you look for in Nashville has the experience, the qualifications, and the reputation to make sure you get the right kind of care!
Fantastic experience: Dan has been my personal trainer for several years. Past trainers I've worked with ask about physical limitations or injuries, but then incorporate exercises that can potentially increase pain or other issues. Dan listens to my concerns, works around them, and helps me reach my fitness/health goals. If you're considering a fitness/health coach, call Dan. Fantastic experience: Fitness Training - Sarah The BEST!! I wanted to kick off the new year and really get in shape. After reading reviews and speaking to Dan he introduced / recommended Sarah! After meeting her for initial consultation we went over my Fitness goals, nutrition and results I am seeking. I also explained I have had lower back issues for a good part of my life and she took that seriously to help engage my results without putting any additional stress on my back. I have been with sarah now for over a month at 3x a week - losing weight and toning my entire body; including strengthening my core. Fantastic experience: it was intimidating working wirh a trainer as someone who is super out of shape. So glad I started working with Jon despite being worried I was a lost cause. Jon has been incredibly kind and so helpful. The value he provides is off the charts. He's easy accessible, very flexible with scheduling, and his workouts will make you sore for days.

Fantastic experience: From a bad fall to a great half-marathon. When I first reached out to Dan, I lamented how little time I had. Travel, work, kids, work. I was working the equivalent of three jobs and traveling a lot. I knew I needed to work out, but I was afraid of so much. I started working with my trainer, Arren. A perfect match for me. Encouraging, consistent, but creative in the ways he helped me get through those hard first few weeks. Then the worst happened (or so I thought). I fell and broke my wrist in September, just a couple of months after I started. The bad kind - surgery and pins and plates BUT because of Arren and Dan and the incredibly supportive set up of Basics and Beyond, the experience helped me in so many ways. I figured out how resilient our bodies are, how consistent work really can make a difference, and more. Oh, and to get use of my hand/wrist back, it meant at least a couple of hours a day doing exercises. Funny how a time excuse can be removed quickly when your livelihood is at stake. I went from that fall to a new commitment to making sure I took the time to take care of myself. I signed up for a half-marathon in October and used my rehab time to also start training. Arren helped me prepare and train in the gym, he helped me navigate how to go from nothing to 13.1 miles in 3:30 or less, and he walked me through how to eat and prepare for the actual day. Not only did I go strong the whole race, but I now have full use of my hand - it's actually the one holding that medal! Thank you Dan, Arren, Tim, and all the team. I did it because you do a great job every day!

Fantastic experience: I was getting after my Dad who is 78 telling him there is no status quo if you aren’t improving your getting worse, he needed to keep moving and to keep his mobility so he could take care of himself. it wasn’t long before I realized I needed to listen to my own advise at 47 I was in the worst shape of my life. Dan and Jon got me started with a couple visits a week and after a month I feel so much more sure of myself, I still have a long way to go but I have started that journey

Fantastic experience: After almost 5 years of living with pain on a pretty regular basis, I did some searching and reached out to Basics and Beyond in the summer of 2017. I had developed a SI Joint problem from years of sitting and working at a computer for way too many hours each day. I’ve been working with Angela for a bit over 6 months now and the entire experience has been awesome. I am for the most part totally pain free with just very occasional moments of pain/discomfort, which seem to be a direct result of me falling behind on my exercise and spending too much time working at the computer. Previously I had seen good chiropractors and massage therapists, who were all helpful, but nothing has helped nearly as much as working with Angela from Basics and Beyond and getting my body in shape. I’m feeling much stronger, more energized, and more stable, plus there’s the added bonus of looking better too ;) Not only am I learning how to properly work out and getting in shape, but I’m also learning about my physical ailments (turns out I have a couple), proper posture and things I can put into practice in my day to day. Angela is extremely knowledgeable. I learn something new with each session, which I attend 2 days per week. Whenever I do have any pain or discomfort I describe it to Angela and she always seems to have the answers - educating me and giving me an exercise that often immediately addresses and alleviates the pain. They really do go above and beyond the basics. Highly recommend for anyone and everyone Thank you so much!

Positive experience: Very good training and nutrition regimen. I was having lower back issues, and with the help of the core training I took, I made immediate and ongoing strides in my core strength and flexibility with fewer trips to the chiropractor.

Fantastic experience: As a workaholic IT professional, I suffered severe neck and shoulder pain, and after two months with Basics and Beyond Fitness & nutrition, the pain is gone, and my posture and energy are improved. Fantastic experience: Jess Wilson is the absolute best personal trainer! She's a great motivator and works me much harder than I would myself, yet never makes me feel self-conscious or intimidated as I work towards getting stronger. She seems to have tremendous expertise, she's delightful, and her energy level is contagious. Subsequently, I've seen several physical therapists with only minimal improvement. Dan has been genius at helping to diagnose the root of my problems. He then works hard, creatively, and sensitively to help me progress… not just maintain my gains. He is by far the BEST physical therapist and personal trainer with whom I have worked.

Fantastic experience: I sought out Basics and Beyond looking for a trainer to help me develop an exercise program. I have found so much more. Dan has done a fantastic job helping me with stretches for pain that I've been experiencing with my foot. He paired me with Amy Lamb for training. She has been kind and encouraging and works to find exercises that work for me. I went into this highly resistant to any kind of nutrition counseling. However, Dan has done a wonderful job gently nudging me in that direction. For the first time in two decades, I am on the right track to better health and fitness. I highly recommend the team at Basics and Beyond!

Fantastic experience: Brand new experience (my first time with a trainer) with a brand new trainer to Basics and Beyond, Andrew! He has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Fantastic experience: Dan DeFigio is an excellent trainer and offers expert and high quality service, attention, and assistance. His staff is kind, courteous and genuinely cares about a client's well-being. After many years of doing basically the same fitness routine, I was in need of serious guidance to create something new to help me with chronic pain and balance problems. He did an excellent assessment and has designed a new routine that has given me greater strength, helped restore my balance, and greatly reduced joint pain and movement challenges. I highly recommend Dan and his entire staff of Basics and Beyond!
Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a Trainer, you have to strongly consider Basics and Beyond! I have worked out with many different trainers and Anthony at Basics and Beyond has by far been my favorite. He was extremely inventive in his work outs. I was sick of the same old work outs and needed to challenge my body. Anthony was fun to work with and he did a great job of getting me in shape. I strongly recommend Anthony and Basics and Beyond! They are the best in town!
