Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center: Reviews
Negative experience: Whomever takes care of answering the phones, needs to take a Customer Service course 101. Super rude gal!
Negative experience: This VA robbed me of my travel pay. Made me get a ride home from the hospital while I was in treatment and overall is understaffed. Foods ok. No wifi in RRU. Do not go!!!!
Hello Mr. Patrioti. So sorry to hear about your issues. Would be happy to discuss your concerns with you. Please reach out to Linda Wondra, Public Affairs/Veteran Experience Officer at 509-386-1117. Thank you.
Negative experience: I have been using community care from this VA. They are most of the time able to get my primary care authorization completed on time. However, they NEVER can get any referrals completed timely. Not even within a few months even with me calling every week. None of the employees know why it’s taking so long or what’s going on. Total bs! This is why veterans become suicidal. I have been dealing with them for 7 years now and nothing has changed. If you’re rural and use community care do not use this VA as the authorizing VA!
Fantastic experience: This VA facility is very nice. The people are nice. I haven't had a bad experience yet, and I can't say that about all va facilities.
Thank you, Mr. Buissink, for your rating and kind comments. We are honored to take care of our Veterans! Have a great day! ~ Linda Wondra, Veterans Experience Officer (509-386-1117)
Negative experience: We were supposed to get a handicap ramp for my husband, the guy that came out was a total jerk, ball faced lied to me. Brought out a huge wheelchair ramp that ran out almost to the street took up all of my parking pad, left me nowhere to park, he blocked every entrance into our front yard and then kept tell me it was required, LIAR, I called the state it is rise over run my steps are 15in the was supposed to be 15ft which would have been perfect. Now i have to hire someone to dismantle it so we have a place to park. He tried to bully me when i told him i was calling the VA he said won't do you any good they are used to dealing with people like!!! He said your husband signed for this, my husband has Dementia and doesn't remember signing anything. The Va has not bothered to call me back, not only is he ripping me off he is Ripping the VA off by installing these big expensive ramps that people don't needor want.
Negative experience: I would give fewer stars if possible. Everytime that I call to make an appointment to get new glasses I am transferred to an answering machine that obviously nobody checks. I do not get a call back for scheduling. I have been trying to get new glasses since November 2023 and now it is June of 2024. The next time I hear someone talking about everyone being entitled to government Healthcare, I am going to tell them to take a look at the VA. We as America's Military fight against socialism and yet as soon as we get injured we are thrown into the most socialist Healthcare system imaginable. There is nothing quite like perpetuating a broken system.
Positive experience: waiting 90 minutes for first appointment that I've waited 3 months to get. Now that I'm in the system, things seem more orderly. Eye Care is really good, as are labs and X-rays. But foot Care is problematic. Medical consultation are very through. Community Referral system seems slow, but does happen.
Positive experience: The people that assist you are great. SERVICE depends upon the dr you are seeing. My overall experience has been great.
Fantastic experience: Having experienced various VA facilities, I've gained an understanding of the ideal attributes. There are still problems such as outdated infrastructure & extended wait times, but it's clear that certain VA facilities stand out. The staff at these exceptional facilities show a genuine commitment to their Veterans. They not only acknowledge but genuinely care about the pain and challenges Veterans have faced and continue to deal with. I recommend seeking care at facilities such as this one, where dedication creates an environment to Veteran support and healing.
Fantastic experience: Staff is excellent. I come from Tri Cities, I prefer it over the Richland CBOC. A lot of folks dog on the VA and it's typically due to not understanding how to navigate things. My personal experience has been overall pretty good. My PCP is responsive and I have better results with the VA than I do TRICARE.
Fantastic experience: After years without upper teeth lost from chemo and Seattle canceling so many appointments..I called the Walla Walla VA dental office. That's an amazing team and staff and yesterday I got some teeth added to my implants!!! Remember veterans..go to a compensation office FIRST to see if you qualify for dental or medical. Mental health care is ALWAYS FREE..just reach out. God Bless us and our families and the people who manage our continued care. Thank you Walla Walla VA hospital.
Negative experience: They don't answer the phone or return calls.
Fantastic experience: I have found the best way to communicate to the VA is through secure messaging on the "my healthevet" app! it takes two working days but it works. so, set-up your account now!!
Negative experience: No one, and I emphasize no one, answers their phones. And so far no one, again no one, returns calls. I've been leaving messages all over Wainwright since January 6th, attempting to secure an audiology appointment. Maybe my congressional rep can make something happen.
Negative experience: Never has my prescriptions sent on time even after calling them in advance to remind them
Negative experience: Perhaps the worse primary care I've ever received in my life, except for the LA, which is has good reasons for delays in treatment.
Negative experience: New "My VA Health" is a total disaster! Online Rxs refills, does not work, "Visit summaries" not accessible. My VA Health sends you back to MyHealtheVet. I have been out of half of my meds for weeks as new system dropped them SOmeone should be fired! Even this teview page no lo ger works! What the hell is going on? I would suggest all Vets contact thr Senators and Congressmen to find out about this disaster!
Negative experience: I tried twice to make an appointment on 21 march 2022, the first i was on the line 15 minutes talking to the operator before she informed me she couldnt make my appt. the second time i was on hold for 40 minutes, this person told me she couldnt make my appt either. It seems im not allowed to make appointments.
Positive experience: Mental Health and Vision Clinic are awesome! Have had terrible problems getting authorizations from them for outsource. Dental wanted to pull my teeth instead of restoring them. Appointment making has been horrendous, I keep getting appointments I've not scheduled confirmed, and have had appointments that were cancelled without my knowledge, only to find out during supposed appointment time. My physical therapy authorizations stopped out of nowhere about 2 months ago, and was not able to get back into physical therapy for that time, until last week when the issue was resolved. I just called to talk to team ****** about an unauthorized appointment confirmation, was outsourced to a call center who had no clue about what I was talking about due to having an outdated appointment schedule. They told me they would have team ****** call me..... This kind of stuff happens on a regular basis, I've been to patient advocacy several times, and while my particular problem is usually fixed in the moment, the same stuff keeps happening in different scenarios. I am grateful for the care that I HAVE received.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Johnson and staff were very helpful and professional. My first time there and will definitely not be my last!! Thank you all for a wonderful appointment!
Negative experience: I made friend's with Sargent Terry. Very nice man. I found out recently him and some more vet's we're kicked out of there. I highly advise not bringing your elders to the "VA" .
Negative experience: if I could give zero star I would! I have tried for a week to get through the phone system to order my meds. For some reason I can not order them online at my my health vet website as my medicine has been cancelled and no reason for it given. I spent an average of 1.5 hours on hold never getting through and when I called today I was caller 3 and five minutes later I became caller 10 two minutes later caller 21 and had to wait an hour and when connected and the operator verified me. She transferred me and I was put back on hold. I quit after 20 minutes. I live more than 60 miles away from the nearest VA hospital and I had an appointment for respiratory therapy set for August and I always received a reminder in the mail. When none showed I started calling, getting no where. The VA diagnosed me with CHF, Congenital Heart Failure. I have less than one week worth of medication. I can't order any medicine and can not even get an appointment with a local doctor to do lab work required before receiving medication. Your staff has major issues with its phone system and making contact with vets. I need my medicine to stay alive. And you people are failing me and any vet with heart issues or medical needs. I truly understand why the 200 Veterans in Arizona died waiting for appointments or needed medication and care.
Negative experience: Can’t get anyone to call me back after leaving messages 5 times. Have been waiting over 7 months to get my name changed after marriage. Just another pathetic federal government agency.
Fantastic experience: Nothing but good experiences here. The staff is helpful and courteous. The care I have received is TOP NOTCH. I have had instances where my calls would not make it through, but I keep in mind that, as everywhere else, we are expected to do more with less staff. I have found that going through "MyhealtheVet" site has a better response time. Once in here...nothing but professionalism. Special mention to the eye clinic!! ROCK STARS!!!
Fantastic experience: Great services
Fantastic experience: Well patrolled
Fantastic experience: Always on time with appointments . friendly, professional, and caring teams. Thank You from me and my family
Fantastic experience: Great treatment program , you are treated with respect and dignity
Fantastic experience: My consistent experience over the years with this facility is that the personnel have always been extremely responsive to my needs. They have done an excellent job of ensuring prompt and respectful care anytime I have had appointments, needed services, or requested recommendations concerning my overall health and fitness. In a few words... they are exceptional! We are blessed to have the quality of people who work there.
Fantastic experience: I have had nothing but the best care from the doctors and nurses at the Walla Walla VA. They are top notch.
Fantastic experience: Very historic
Fantastic experience: Always. Good. Service.
Fantastic experience: They do care about your well-being.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful caring people. Always have a pleasant time here.
Fantastic experience: Great place
Fantastic experience: I'm not a VET. I'm a private citizen who has many friends who have served. The care and effort to reward their sacrifices by this great facility amazes me on a daily basis. I know many of the staff personally and can say that there is true compassion here. I believe the citizens of our city are blessed to have these brave soldiers among us. Keep up the good work Walla Walla VA!
Fantastic experience: The Jonathan M. Wainwright VA is hands down 100% the friendliest, cleanest, most comfortable, caring, professional, and personal VA probably out of all the VA’s located in California, Oregon, and Washington State. Their staff members are so amazing at what they do! They’ll tell you and you can see that they’re there for Veterans because they honor them, appreciate them, and want to give back to them.
Negative experience: I would not send one person to this place! People are rude! And could care less! On the good side the eye clinic is Great! The med. Side sucks!
Fantastic experience: This is a great facility with professional caring staff.
Fantastic experience: Great veteran care
Fantastic experience: Never any problem getting the best care available! I have never been treated with such respect and care, I have never been let down when I needed care!! You folks at Jonathan Wainwright memorial are to be commended!
Positive experience: Mental health clinic is wonderful. Lab prompt and polite. Doctors are hit and miss. Even the fairly good ones seem to have hearing problems when a patient is speaking. Pharmacy is a total disaster. Unless you are standing in front of them they can't get a prescription right. They release prescriptions for window pick up that are supposed to be mailed (usually critical meds. Pain meds, mental health meds etc...). 3 of the last 4 months I have had to go to the facility just to get one, the same one, medication picked up to prevent the serious side effects of running out. Trips I cannot be reimbursed for! I recommend seeing if you qualify for the Choice program. The program is not without its own problems but they are better than having a doctor tell you that your pain medication is causing your pain, not the disc that is crushing your spinal cord.
Fantastic experience: Ordered me new glasses in minutes.
Fantastic experience: Healthcare professionals at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center in Walla Walla, WA are just that, professionals. I have always received excellent care and wish to thank all those provide for the highest standard of service. I have no doubt that in our Nation there are Veterans who are not receiving the care they deserve. I believe that is not the case in Walla Walla, WA. Jeffrey Fritts, USAF, (ret).
Fantastic experience: BY FAR THE BEST VA I've EVER been to!!! They know how to take care of their Veterans!
Positive experience: I go in for my check up if needed yearly and they do a great job at what they do in my opinion. Reviews from people like Ladawna Kidder make me feel sad for the rest of Americans who don't expect freebees their entire life, but have to bend to the needs of takers.
Negative experience: Just called to attempt to get information about emergency services for my husband who is an Iraqi War Vet. His back locks up and he is unable to move. He has a disability raring for this. The male who answered the phone was rude and said,"we don't just give our free health care because someone is a veteran." HAHA wow. SO much disrespect in that one sentence. Especially considering my husband rarely goes to the doctor, let alone the VA (which he is entitled to).
Fantastic experience: I believe we have the best VA Medical Center in the country. Every time I have been there I have been treated with respect and outstanding medical care. I am not sure what is happening across the country with all the bad reports about not taking care of our vets but that's not the story here at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Medical Center. A big THANK YOU for the care and the outstanding service you give me.
Fantastic experience: Love the history of the campus
Negative experience: Took my veteran cousin there twice - diagnosed with glaucoma that is progressively getting worse but NO eye drops or treatment recommended beyond new Rx. for glasses! Eye appointments are scheduled 4-6 weeks apart and in the time between the 2 appointments the original Rx given for glasses no longer works at all, pressure in eyes is much worse, yet no drops given, just another appt. in 4 weeks. Veterans on disability cannot afford to go outside the VA for care so they get stuck with these residents in training who aren't properly supervised, imo. Refugees from other countries get better care than our Veterans!
Fantastic experience: I have been treated there for over 20 yrs. Would not trade it for any place else.
Fantastic experience: This is by far the best VA I have been too.
Fantastic experience: This is a wonderful place! It started with a phone call to set his appointment that lady was so neat compassionate and inviting. This was my our first trip there and look forward to our next trip. We had to park a ways away but there was a shuttle driver. He was so kind you could tell he enjoyed his job even though he drove in circles all day he was very chipper and welcoming. We get to general medical office and had a bit of a wait the front desk checked us in and told us where we needed to go in the building. We get upstairs and those ladies were amazing! Got us laughing and made me feel like I was a big part of the process. He went for another test and then to the front desk and another test all of the staff was kind and tried their best to help every step of the way. Even a doctor my husband didn't have to see tried to help me with small problem. Next step more tests for husband in another building amazing compassion from everyone we met. They went out of their way to let me in the room with him and asked me questions. I honestly thought this was a typical sterile medical place where I was to be seen and not heard. WRONG they valued my input and made us feel like very important people red carpet treatment all the way. They are there for the veteran and do their best to help the spouse. Can hardly wait to go back Tuesday.
