UF Student Health Care Center: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Most people here did not care to help me and I was very frustrated, however Melech genuinely went out of his way to help. Thanks Melech
Fantastic experience: They are eager to help and to get me a quick appointment. Wonderful people with caring hearts!
Negative experience: While I was waiting for my appointment, they mispronounced my name when they called me, so I didn't recognize it. A nurse asked me in a very angry and rude manner why I didn't respond when she called me.
                            Hi there,
We regret to hear that you had a less than positive experience with the SHCC. Please give our Quality Officer a call at 352-294-7441 or email [email protected] so that we can directly learn more about your visit and address the issues that you experienced.
Negative experience: Receptionist named Candance is extremely impatient and disrespectful. Do not go into a health care position if you make people under stressful health conditions feel misunderstood and disrespected. Not the first or second occurrence that she has been unhelpful and rude over the phone.

Negative experience: Doc was great, everything else not so much. Both times I had to speak to someone behind a desk I was honestly shocked with the way I was spoken to. Normally I understand people have rough days, but this was too far. I’d recommend sticking with a regular doctor’s office.
                            Hi Lex,
We regret to hear that you had a less than positive experience with the SHCC. Please give our Quality Officer a call at 352-294-7441 or email [email protected] so that we can directly learn more about your visit and address the issues that you experienced.
Negative experience: What's the difference between God and a doctor? God doesn't think he's a doctor. The staff are kind and friendly; the doctor in charge is arrogant and doesn't respect his peers.
We regret to hear that you had a less than positive experience with the SHCC. Please give our Quality Officer a call at 352-294-7441 or email [email protected] so that we can directly learn more about your visit and address the issues that you experienced.
Negative experience: Not very easy to find where you are supposed to be
Fantastic experience: They are efficient at this office. I wasn't expecting to have the operation done on the same day as my intake but I was given the option! They also did a great job!
Fantastic experience: Came in a few days ago to get a tetanus shot after a bike accident. I’m not someone thats great with needles, but the nurse I was with (Rebecca Farrar I believe?) was really nice and gentle. Walked in and out in less than 15 minutes, would definitely recommend based on my experience.
Thank you for the review. We are glad you had a great experience at the SHCC! Go Gators!
Negative experience: The staff were all very nice which is why they are not getting a one star review. I came in after I was experiencing high fever, and other symptoms. They tested me for the flu, covid, and strep. Then when all came back negative they told me it was probably was just a virus and would clear up in a few days. They did not prescribe anything or look further into it. I ended up having to go to urgent care the next day because both that night and the next day I had a fever over 104 before taking a fever reducer medicine. Urgent care prescribed me something and I have started to feel better but it is right before thanksgiving. If the healthcare center had prescribed something Sunday I would have been able to be on them for an extra day. Very dissatisfied.
Fantastic experience: Very convenient
Positive experience: Doctors are fine, you may have to wait a while but I've never had a bad interaction. The pharmacy however, is probably the worst one in all of Gainesville. Besides being slow and more expensive than any other other places (CVS, Publix, ect.), they are very disorganized. I had a prescription sent there and they told me it'd be another 30 minutes to fill, which is not a problem. I come back in 30 and they tell me that they need to order it because they don't have it in stock. How about we start with that next time? I sent the same prescription to the CVS on 13th and they had it filled in 5 minutes.
Fantastic experience: Sports Medicine: Amazing staff and doctors are very friendly and helpful when needs are expressed.

Negative experience: I went during my last semester in nursing school because I felt like my eyes had something in them but nothing I could see or flush out. The female PA put fluorescein in my eyes and said they looked irritated but she didn’t see anything. (She didn’t use an actual eye machine or refer me to an actual eye doctor). So I left feeling quite sad that I just had to deal with it and it was just “dry eyes”. Moving forward, I went another year dealing with my “dry eyes” and one night shift I noticed the text on a poster was blurry so I quickly got an appointment with an UF Health ophthalmologist. I went to the appointment, he looked at my eyes and was very surprised. He said he expected to see nothing ( so I assume he thought I was a hypochondriac) but saw opaque spots all over my eyes. He then called in a medical student because I was a “rare case”. Thygeson’s TSPK. Anyways, UF on campus health is terrible if you’re having any EYE issues DO NOT see them. They don’t have the proper equipment to help you. And they should have known to have told me there were other ways to further check my eyes more in depth elsewhere. I did not know and suffered terribly because of it.

Fantastic experience: Best option for on campus primary health care. The staff members there are extremely helpful.
Hello Rafiul, thank you so much for your feedback! The SHCC strives to provide top-quality healthcare to UF community, and we're very glad that you were satisfied with your visit. Enjoy your day!
Negative experience: Wait times are at least 30 minutes. Sometimes it can get up to an hour.

Fantastic experience: I made an appointment at the women’s clinic over the phone and was able to be seen within a week. The receptionist was accommodating when I told her I was going to be a little later than 30 minutes early. I was seen by the CNM Erica and she was one of the most respectful, helpful, and understanding nurses/doctors I’ve ever seen for women’s healthcare. Normally when I’ve told previous doctors/nurses that I wasn’t on pill birth control (it causes really adverse symptoms for me), they would try to pressure me/shame me into getting on it. She was one of the first nurses I’ve seen who didn’t make me feel guilty for making my own decision on what I wanted to do with my body. She also gave me an in depth explanation on what she observed from my samples which was very interesting to hear.
Hello C, thank you for your feedback! The SHCC strives to provide top-quality healthcare to UF community, and we're very glad that you were satisfied with your visit to our women's clinic. We appreciate your positive comments for Erica and will pass them along to her. Once again, thank you for your review and enjoy your day!
Negative experience: What a messy place with a poor system! The structure of the clinic is terribly organized! Employees are very slow in response, and they can be very unprofessional! Multiple terrible experiences! If you have a medical concern, go to a private clinic, and don't waste your time here!
Thank you for your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear about your negative experiences. We would appreciate an opportunity to discuss this with you directly in order to better understand the situation and your feedback. If you are willing to discuss this directly, please email us at [email protected]. Again, thank you for providing your feedback, and we look forward to speaking with you soon.
Negative experience: My experience there was pretty good. The staff members (including nurses and doctors) were kind and respectful. The only problem was the wait time, which was too long since I was the only patient there. The doctor could not tell me with certainty what was wrong with me. She stated that it was a virus and that nothing much could be done about this. The doctor prescribed vitamins. My experience with the women's health center is complicated. All the nurse practitioners I dealt with have been lovely, kind and knowledgeable. For some reason, the intake nurses have been expedient and quite aggressive with me, even rude at times.
Fantastic experience: These reviews scared me but I had a great experience with the administrative team and with the providers. A bit of a wait but nothing unreasonable
Fantastic experience: Kirsty Freshwater was exceptional!! Would highly recommend her :) All the staff was very nice and welcoming as well. My only gripe is that parking can be rough, even when you use the infirmary spots -- they can be filled pretty easily.
Fantastic experience: They take good care of their student patients
Negative experience: Had an appointment at 1pm , it’s 1:45pm already and still waiting on doctor when I’m sure they are taking walk ins before they see me ! Unacceptable
Fantastic experience: I had called this morning at 8 am to make an appointment and they fit me in at 8:30. I was seen very fast and the PA ruled out a bunch of tests to make sure everything was okay with my irritated eye. It was a very fast and quick visit, and everyone was very kind. I went to care spot recently and that was absolutely terrible and they had me buy a medication I didn't need. Definitely recommend coming here compared to care spot!
Negative experience: I've called UF to get pricing for a specific test I wanted done. They cant give pricing and told me to call quest to get the pricing with codes they gave me. I've called quest to get the pricing and the codes dont work. I've been transferred multiple times and each time I get different codes and none if them are correct. I am a full time student and dont have insurance so I can only afford so much. They need to have a pricing chart for people who dont have insurance instead of giving them codes to research on their own since their codes dont even work. I will never go there for any treatment.
Positive experience: I've had a relatively good experience here but only because I feel that I was confident enough to speak up for myself. The sports med doctor I saw wasn't confident in my diagnosis and I pressed to see a specialist. He was happy to send me and was super respectful and understanding but I could tell that perhaps another patient who wasn't so pressing could have slipped through the cracks in the hustle and bustle of the place. The other doctors and nurses I've seen have been exceptional. Seen the trauma dr for stitches and she was excellent.
Fantastic experience: I got second degree burns all over my hand and called the student health care ten minutes before closing. They stayed late to help me, gave me a tetanus shot, taught me how to correctly wrap my hand, and gave me free gauze, bandages, and ointment. They were a lifesaver and I am so grateful
Negative experience: Had to get a bunch of vaccines there and one of them was an anti-malarial that the doc said she'd call me back on. Here I am, 4 days before the trip having to go through this stupid online patient portal and getting the run-around FOUR TIMES on the phone when all I need is a simple prescription. Great waste of two full days.
Negative experience: UF really needs to fire some of these "experts". Very unprofessional, rude and give little to no effort in helping you get better.
Negative experience: Don’t ever get their “free” flu shot or meningitis B shot because it’s not free they charge it to your insurance company and if your insurance company doesn’t cover it you’re stuck with a hefty fee. Also when I went in for an infection the orange team male doctor made me wait for 2-3hours even when I had an appointment. Then when he came in to see me it lasted 5 minutes and prescribed me the wrong medication.
Fantastic experience: Good people provide you with the best solution for you
Negative experience: Misdiagnosed my condition, causing it to become much worse. Didn't record my medical history, so I had to continually remind the NP of it over the course of my 4 ineffective visits.
Negative experience: The one star is for the staff who are always friendly and courteous. When it comes to offering diagnosis and treatment they have been disappointing overall. They have never been able to diagnose me with anything in my 2 years here nor offer any viable treatment solutions. Eventually I end up seeking private treatment. And good luck trying to see a consultant or seeing a doctor after 5pm or on weekends! Utterly disappointing!
Negative experience: The women working behind the desk actually laughed at my reason for coming to the doctor, although I have documentation from a primary expert doctor staying exactly what I need. She doesn't know my story and she thought it was a joke and laughed about it, saying "she's the expert" without having any prior knowledge what so ever. I have never had such a terrible experience at a doctor in my life. I absolutely don't trust that my records will remain confidential here because I've never heard a receptionist be so disrespectful over health.
Negative experience: Every doctor I have had here does not care to try to figure out why you are sick. There is essentially no primary care or preventative care because the doctors don't remember you at all. The receptionist are very good but the doctors give negligent care.
Fantastic experience: Good team of professionals to go to. It can be kind of busy there at times and if you don't have an appointment I guess I can see that you would have a pretty long wait, if you need urgent care go to an urgent care center instead (there is a Carespot on Archer Road a bit off campus). I always make an appointment and am seen within 10-15 minutes of sitting in the waiting room. All the nurses and receptionists that I have talked to are kind and care about your health, although they can seem a bit rushed when they are very busy. On a final note, I'm really happy with the service that Dr. Berry provides! During the past few appointments he has actually sat in the room with me for 30-40 minutes (a first for any GP that I've had) to make sure he can provide the best care possible for me and he takes plenty of notes so he can provide continuing care at future appointments.
Negative experience: Closed at 4:45 instead of 5, said there were ZERO nurses that could attend my bruises after a scooter accident. So much for the $719 per semester, truly disappointing as a Gator.
Negative experience: Terrible staff. Most don't have any interest in helping you and can be rude. Better treatment could be found anywhere else. I don't recommend anyone go there. Even their phone number listed online doesn't work.
Negative experience: They don't care about your comfort or feelings. Even if you are afraid, they won't allow a spouse or parent back with you, even if you are willing to sign the related HIPAA form. They are horrible and would rather you be scared and uncomfortable than make ANY accommodations. They also won't answer questions and expect you sit down and shut up. The ONLY nice people there are the receptionists.
Fantastic experience: The staff was super nice and helpful. I didn't have an appointment and I was still able to be seen the same day. After filling out the paperwork I was called back in 20 minutes. I cannot stress how nice everyone was. I may just apply for a job there.
Negative experience: The service there for the students is awful. My daughter was severely ill and had to wait four hours to see someone. The doctor asked her to get blood work done the next day so she came back and the nurses said without an order they couldn't do anything. All of the parents and students on the posting boards complain about the service and care. It is better to send your child to a walk in clinic with a friend, at least they wont be waiting four hours (while sick) for sub par care.
Fantastic experience: Everyone has been very friendly, genuinely caring, and extremely helpful.
Fantastic experience: I have always had amazing experiences at the infirmary! The entire staff is so generous and I get the care I need every time.
Negative experience: I have only heard of really bad experiences there. A doctor at the women's clinic kept cutting my sister off and saying "nope you have herpes". She clearly did not have herpes, it was something else and she had to see a different doctor to get a real diagnosis. My other friend needed a CT scan so they told her she needed to drink Iodine. She is allergic to Iodine and this is in her patient file. When she told the nurse, the lady in charge had to come talk to her and asked her a million questions in a condescending voice and kept being sarcastic because she didn't believe her. I have gotten some bad advice at the women's clinic there and one of the nurses who gives immunizations was extremely grumpy and made me scared of her. I asked if she could give me a shot on my right arm rather than my left. She said "Nope we're gonna do it on this arm"....... It would not have made her job any harder. A lot of the desk people are nice but it's just a really low quality of care there and if you can go somewhere else you should.
