Negative experience: I had the surgery. Dr’s no longer accepted my insurance. I was told existing patients would only have to pay $50 for follow up. After paying the $50 I was told later that the visits are $150. Will have to find another doctor. Things don’t seem consistent. I’m not sure if it’s this is just the front office because Dr. Brown was very kind every time I saw her. I did not expect this kind of treatment.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Maria Brown is amazing and I am so thankful I was referred to her for my bariatric surgery. I first saw her in April of 2022 when I was at my heaviest and had just barely survived a severe case of Covid. I had tried for years to eat healthy and lose the weight on my own but I was frustrated by little to no success. When Covid nearly took me from my family due to my obesity I knew I had to get some help and my primary referred me to Dr. Brown. She was incredibly kind and compassionate while discussing the very sensitive topic of my health/weight. She was also direct about how seriously at risk I was for a variety of bad health conditions and gave me the facts I needed to know to help me make the right health care decisions. She explained the surgical options available and guided me to the one she felt would be most appropriate for me (duodenal switch). Dr. Brown is very thorough in making sure you understand what you are agreeing to as bariatric surgery requires a lifetime commitment to making dietary and lifestyle changes to be successful and healthy. She also had a very robust medical workup done by several physicians in different specialties (cardiology, pulmonology, dietician, etc) to better ensure I would be safe to have this surgery. It has been a two year journey and I have lost around 185 pounds. I am a lighter weight than I’ve ever been as an adult and my health is the best it’s been in decades thanks to the success of the surgery Dr. Brown performed on me. It has been life changing and life saving to have lost this weight for good. If you are struggling with obesity and are looking for a doctor you can trust to provide excellent care and the honest facts please consider Dr. Brown. You won’t regret it!

Fantastic experience: 6 months post op bypass… 115lbs down. Greatest choice I ever made. I went from burning back pain, knee pain that killed me, trouble breathing when I walked from my front door down to my car. Currently I’m in No more pain. No more pain medication. No more trouble breathing. People will tell you this is the “easy way out”. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done but my only regret is not doing it sooner.

Fantastic experience: I am 66 years old and a retired combat veteran. The medical problems started creeping up on me as the years went by. I eventually found myself with PTSD, high blood pressure, severe sleep apnea, pre-diabetic, chronic joint pain, depression, anxiety, panic attacks and morbidly obese, weighing in at 284 pounds. I felt I was on my way to a heart attack. I did the Jenny Craig yo-yo weight loss game several times. Every time I lost weight, I'd gain it back with an extra 10 pounds or so. My primary care doctor asked me if I had ever considered bariatric surgery. He described the procedure and referred me to Dr. Maria Brown. From my first meeting with her, I knew I was in the best possible care. She explained the entire procedure and outlined what I would go to to determine if I was a good candidate for the surgery. Her staff guided me through the entire pre-surgery procedure and prepared me for the huge change I would be going through in my life-style. Dr. Brown performed my gastric sleeve procedure at the end of February. Over the past 4 months, I have lost 64 pounds and I feel GREAT!!!! I am no longer pre-diabetic, no longer take blood pressure medications and no longer require my sleep apnea machine. My depression has subsided along with the anxiety and panic attacks. My pants size has gone from 44 to 42 to 40 to 38 and now, to a size 36. My shirt size has gone from XXL to XL to a large. My sleep is fantastic and I feel like I've dumped a 64 pound ruck sack from my body..l haven't felt this good in YEARS! If anyone is reading this and are trying to decide if bariatric surgery is for you, I recommend doing it! In a short time, you'll feel years younger. Fantastic experience: After almost a year of preparation and doing nutritionist appointments and sleep center, respiratory , finally got approved by insurance and referred to the best bariatric surgeon ever! My incisions were small - So now the biggest challenge is slowly going back to eating with medicine cups sizes for water and protein shakes every 15 min then normal in Mid-May. . 3/28/24 was my surgery date and so far so good, minimal pain..gas is there but walking it out helps. Dr. Marie Brown and her staff made sure I was comfortable the whole time and educated me on every detail of the process. I am so glad I did not go to Mexico for the procedure! Fantastic experience: After going through the process with the VA, I finally was able to pick a doctor for my bariatric adventure. I did some research and found the best one in AZ and boy she hasn't disappointed! She and her team walked me through the process and even though working with the VA is tough, we made it through. We discussed the Sadi-s or better know as the modified duodenal switch and concluded that I needed that procedure. Now 15 days post op I'm feeling better than ever! She is an amazing doctor who ACTUALLY cares for her patients. Her knowledge and expertise soothed me and prepared me for my new beginning. I will recommend her to anyone and everyone.

Fantastic experience: A little over a year ago, I came in as a 21 year old patient with little understanding of what was happening in my body. After 5 different doctors Dr.Brown was the only one who made me feel heard. As I was across the country from my family having surgery on my gallbladder, Dr.Brown was there to answer any questions my family or I had. She sat with me before surgery, (I had no one with me due to covid restrictions and my family being far), until I was taken in and was nothing less than wonderful through my follow up appointments. Negative experience: Came to her after see another surgeon that I did not like and after visiting her a few times she seemed great. However it's been weeks that iv been trying to get a hold of her and yet nothing, iv left messages and she has not returned any of my phone calls. I'm about to give up with this office and find a new surgeon cuz this is rediculous. I want a surgeon that has time for me and obviously she doesn't.

Fantastic experience: Although I’m still early in my post surgical journey, I can say with confidence that Dr. Brown has been amazing thus far. From my first consultation to my most recent post surgical visit, I feel she exemplifies competency and integrity. He surgical skills are at ninja level 2000. I have had virtually no pain or mishaps from the surgery. I was up and walking the halls of the hospital an hour after they brought me to my room, and I was released from the hospital the very next day. I did and continue to follow all of her explicit direction and also follow the weight loss center’s directions verbatim. If you don’t do this you will possibly open yourself up to a world of hurt. Insurance had denied coverage for the surgery many times. Dr. Brown was kind enough to write a Letter of Appeal to the insurance company. Dr. Brown, removed my wife's gall bladder, following an emergency room admission at Mercy Hospital, in Gilbert Arizona. This condition was complicated by other factors requiring a total stay of 6 days in the hospital. The operation was a complete success and Dr. Brown stayed connected with us throughout this period, explaining everything that we needed to know about the operation itself, what our expectations should be following the surgery, and subsequent care. Dr. Brown impressed both of us with her detailed medical knowledge, her ability to clearly communicate with both of us, and her professional and pleasant attitude. We did not become aware of her impressive background until my wife's post operative review, which indicated complete recovery without any complications or limitations. Both of us highly recommend, without any qualifications or reservations, Dr. Maria Brown for any surgery contemplated within her area of expertise. She instilled well-justified confidence in her as my wife's surgeon from the first meeting and continued putting us at ease throughout the entire experience.

Fantastic experience: I decided to get bariatric surgery in September 2020. I went through the clearance and met Dr. Brown just a month before surgery. She was kind, supportive and encouraging. I met her for my EDG and felt very comfortable and that i was in above competent hands. She explained the procedure to me and answered all of my questions. On surgery day she did the exact same. Sat with me for a few minutes because I was anxious and answered all of my last minute questions and my moms who flew in for the procedure and was left in the dark up until surgery day. She checked on me after in recovery and let me know everything went smoothly. Everyone who sees my incisions is impressed. I will be shocked if I scar at all. Fantastic experience: I am a critical care RN who has been seen by Dr. Maria Brown. I am a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor survivor, who had issues with nutrtional control after removal of most of my stomach, in 2012 (by another surgeon). To help with this issue, in Nov., 2020, Dr. Brown performed a routine EGD (Upper Endoscopy), and also recommended followup with Dignity Weight Loss Center, Gilbert, AZ specifically for those with Bypass or bypass related surgeries. Because of her completeness of care, I am now satisfactorally following a regime for my nutritional needs and have returned to the life-style and activity balances I had even before my cancer surgery.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Brown was extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. She spent a lot of time with me explaining the ins and outs of my specific diagnosis, and answered all my questions in a way that was easy to understand. I was able to get scheduled quickly and her office took care of the insurance approval which was a concern of mine. Luckily I had a good recovery, but knowing that I could reach her after hours had I needed to gave me great comfort. I would absolutely send my friends and family to see her without hesitation.
