Soundview Medical Associates: Reviews
Negative experience: I've been coming here since they opened (12 years ago?) and generally have been very happy with the care I've received. Dr. Bookas is a great guy and has always been kind and compassionate. His nurse/assistant Rosa has no equal! She has never failed to help me figure out issues or refill prescriptions ALWAYS in just a few hours or less! She is amazing and I personally thank her and Dr. Bookas as often as I can. Since his appointments fill up fast I've also seen some PAs and they have been great too. The front desk is a whole different story though. When I arrived for my yearly physical, I was asked by the woman at the front desk if I was going to talk to the doctor about anything in particular. I said my back had been bothering me lately (I see him about once a year.) She immediately handed me a form and said "You have to sign this then." No explanation. A few weeks later I was billed for the entire visit even though my insurance pays for preventative care visits. They had coded it in such a way that it changed that to a diagnostic visit that wasn't covered. Since the idea of a yearly preventative visit is to check in on general health, it seems counterintuitive to make the patient fear talking about their general health. I was also given incorrect information from someone at the front desk when I called before I had my appointment to ask if it would be possible to have my fasting bloodwork done before my physical since my physical was late in the day. "Oh no. I know he doesn't do that." "You have to have it done AFTER your physical." That made no sense to me at all. When I spoke to the nurse, she said that was incorrect. On the plus side, they have a Quest "closet" right down the hall. The woman who took my blood was a hoot and very friendly. :-)
Negative experience: Cannot get an appointment
Negative experience: I've been a patient here for over 10yrs and since the move to Wilton there has been a huge decline in professionalism, communication and if you need to speak to your doctor DO NOT use "My Chart" your concerns are left there with cobwebs growing. Steer clear of this group, you are not a person, just a number and a survey for the higher ups to keep funding this facility.
Negative experience: To start off, I understand the front office (schedulers and people that handle phone calls, nurses) do what they can. This practice is so big that everybody is spread too thing and don’t provide quality healthcare. What I mean is YOU have to be on top for them to give you results for tests. It took me three weeks to take SIBO result which was positive and I had to call them. My primary care doctor did not want to do further thyroid screening since my TSH level was fine, but I went to a second opinion and was done further screening and it does look like I’ m border line with Hashimotos. Doctors here are unqualified .
Negative experience: Patient since 2011, they were acquired by a massive healthcare firm and became another faceless mega-group.
Positive experience: The doctors and nurses are amazing. As is front desk! All except for Tracey who schedules for Dr Addleman. TRACEY is TERRIBLE. She does not return calls. Constantly ignores requests to schedule procedures and follow ups. Is always “at lunch” no matter what time of day you call. Soundview please do something about her!
Negative experience: I have had to change drs 3 times since coming to sound view, because they all left. Very frustrating. I will no longer be a patient.
Negative experience: Check in system is stupid. You can hassled by text and the app to check in through the site/app but it doesn't actually check you in. So you are left waiting until you check in at the desk.
Fantastic experience: The doctors and nurses here are all very caring and take the time to listen to what is going on with you.
Negative experience: Waited a month to see Dr. Sammarco just to go to my appt and wait 30-40 minutes because he was running behind. When he finally arrived, he didn't apologize for the tardiness and he didn't look at any of my medical information beforehand to know what I was suffering with. He was very condescending, had an attitude, and was rolling his eyes all throughout my appointment. He offered me no real solutions to my long term chronic stomach issues other than shoving pills down my throat. Total waste of time and energy. I would rather light myself on fire than trust Dr. Sammarco with my health or take a chance on seeing him ever again. He is your typical western medical doctor; very dismissive, uncaring, unkind, lacking empathy, compassion, and the willingness to empower you and actually cooperate with you on cultivating better health for yourself. If you want a doctor you can truly trust and feel safe with, I promise you it's not this guy, avoid him at all costs. Would give 0/5 stars if I could.
Negative experience: Difficulty reaching office to make appointment w Dr Lo. Had to call 3 times before getting a live person.
Negative experience: Sent my husband’s bill to collections while ignoring our insurance company. How professional! Save yourself the headache and avoid Hartford Healthcare
Negative experience: EDIT: they sent my bill to collections while ignoring my insurance company. avoid all Hartford Healthcare locations like the plague. unfortunately i have to edit my good review to 1-star. They've been ignoring my auto insurance company who is required by law to pay all bills related to car accident. Soundview Medical is just straight up ignoring them. they probably don't want to deal with the paperwork.
Fantastic experience: Contacting a staff or making an appointment is a great hassle. Need to better system. Frustrated about the system to contact to speak to someone.
Negative experience: If not the worst, one of the worst medical practices on the east coast. Rude and borderline dismissive physicians and staff. More interested in getting you in and out and not worried about proper medical care. You would be better off going to a doctor for animals, a veterinarian.
Negative experience: How this place is still in business? The only one star is for the Dr that I met. Front desk entered the name, BD wrong, even with insurance card and ID card, medical assistant entered the medication wrong, the prescription was sent to wrong CVS. I got a call after the appointment about the names and BD info. hello, everything is on the card and ID! The facility is hard to find as there are many buildings, and easy to miss without specific instruction. Will never go back.
Negative experience: I've been a patient for more than 15 years. But since I haven't visited their office enough because I haven't been sick, they refuse to see me... even though I am sick. Find another provider who cares for their patients, not whatever holding company to whom they've sold themself.
Fantastic experience: Very quickly attended to, staff was friendly and helpful overall
Negative experience: It’s really annoying when I have an appointment, front desk people are rude they can’t even use their manners. Waiting time is for more than an hour. Is really frustrating.
Fantastic experience: Dr Paula Ortiz is the best! Sorry she is no longer at Soundview….there great loss & mine.
Negative experience: Hartford healthcare bought them out. They don't take my insurance and didn't tell me until after my appointment.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Pillai is great. The office's nurses and staff are nice.
Negative experience: If you're looking for a medical organization capable of communication, steer clear of Soundview. There is absolutely zero ability to get ahold of any human by phone and voicemails go unanswered. I had a very time-sensitive request for medical release forms for insurance reasons and it's very troubling that every department's line goes to voicemail and you don't hear back for days. I had to physically show up at the office to request forms and even then they said everything would be taken care of but I can't get in touch with anyone to follow up. Extremely frustrating.
Negative experience: No more walk-in hours! I do enjoy this practice, but they have not updated their walk-in hours... there are NO walk-in hours anymore despite what their website says.
Negative experience: Office staff is horrendous. I think they've hung up on me over a dozen times today and all I've tried to do is make an appointment. They really don't care about anyone but themselves.
Negative experience: Steer clear of this practice. Had a 9:15 appointment for a physical. Two hours later I was still siting on exam table feet dangling in a johnny coat. Nurse didn’t care if I stayed or left. Decided to leave and woman at reception ( the only person who seemed to care) went and found Doctor. He did literally a 5 minute exam and took no history. Claimed he reviewed my chart, which is a joke as my last physical was more than 10 years earlier with Dr. Lipira who has since passed away. Waited 5 weeks after blood work to finally receive a call to review results but it wasn’t the Doctor who called me, it was his very rude nurse because “the Doctor was away”. Will find another doctor and get my records transferred as soon as I can. This group is really horrid. Btw I also spoke to the practice manager. They promised she’d call me within 24 hours…never did. I had to track her down after a two week wait and although empathetic, she resolved nothing for me. Stay away from them. Awful place.
Negative experience: I have had the worst experience with Dr. Leone. I asked for my physical and immunization forms to be signed by Dr. Leone and have been chasing for 2 months and still nothing. No one cares to return a phone call back to you after leaving multiple messages, disgusting attitude if you go in person bc there is no way to get anyone on the phone. Unbelievable but never had to wait for my physical form for over 2 months. I only imagine having a health issue with such an attitude. I am just so disappointed and urge you do not risk with your time and health going to this doctor or even hospital.
Negative experience: Terrible customer service. Nurses and doctors do not care about the patients. After being taken over by Hartford Health, service and quality of care has gone down the drain and gotten continuously worse. In order to get an appointment, you have to leave a message for the doctor's nurse to call you back. After a week and several messages still no return phone call. I even tried to reach the doctor through their messaging portal about a non urgent issue and also got ignored. I raised my concern to my doctor Dr. Bhande who literally said "I don't know" and hung up on me. They want to blame the pandemic but this issue was happening long before the pandemic. I started having problems getting a hold of the doctor since December 2019.
Negative experience: I have been calling for a week straight to get my father an appointment (he’d be a new patient) but every time i call the person who registers new patients is never there and finally when she was there i was put on hold for over 10 minutes so i hung up and i called back 6 times and the phone was never picked up or anything… horrible service over the phone can’t imagine how it is in the facility safe to say my father will not be going here.
Negative experience: I called 8 times between 7.30am and 1pm no one answer leave messages no one call me back and it's not the first time
Negative experience: I called this place after getting their number through insurance and spoke to reception about THERAPY and making an appointment to see a THERAPIST. I was called to confirm my appointment but the type of appointment was never stated again. I check in, the front desk staff is rude/standoffish and just not welcoming; they were talking about other patients in front of me. I was called in by a nurse who took me to an exam room. This was a red flag considering I was told this would be a therapy appointment. I made it clear once my blood pressure was taken and oxygen (I genuinely thought that this was an updated practice for therapy for a moment) that this is not what I was scheduled to be in for. She began questioning the steps I took to get here and talked over me - after I re-explained myself so she maybe could finally understand, she walked toward the door and said, "Well, this is above my pay grade," and closes the door. I then hear her talking about me to the other staff outside. The doctor, Dr. Ortiz, who I was scheduled to see, came in and had a slight humorous inflection to her voice (due to the nurses recanting of this story), sat down and I had to explain yet again what happened. She then proceeds to start steering me away from the appointment and says she can cancel it. I already paid my copay so might as well do the thing... but she wanted me to cancel it in totality. So she leaves to "go get someone." Already the staff in the front, the nurse and the doctor were just not okay in the way of patient care. I did get my copay back, but whoever staffs the phones and makes appointments needs to clearly listen better, the nurses need to be better at not talking over patients and not saying rude things. This place was bizarre and the ratings clearly indicate why. STAY AWAY AND GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Negative experience: Dr. Marcie Wolinsky-Friedland Never go to this doctor, she's very condescending and rude towards her patients. My sister went to see her to confirm a diagnosis she already knew she had. This doctor gaslit her and belittled her. We have never had this issue with any other doctors before, very disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Always have good service no matter what I go in for.
Fantastic experience: Dr bookas. The man...fast service great help
Negative experience: DO NOT GO HERE. Gloria who answers the phone and is customer facing is in the wrong industry. Rude. Disorganized. Failed to follow up on requests to renew my Mother’s blood pressure prescription, sent two emails stating my Mother’s COVID vaccination appointment was cancelled - it was not cancelled. Failed to respond to pharmacy requests since November 2020. It is nearly February 2021. Refused to provide a prescription to ensure supply until they could find the next appointment in the coming weeks. It is unimaginable. I would strongly encourage anyone to find another medical center. Dr. Wei is not accessible and not patient oriented. They benefit purely from location. Placing the patient first is not a priority. My Mother was forced to go days without medication resulting in her having to risk walk-in clinics at age 83 to seek help during the height of COVID. Should anything happen Gloria and Dr. Wei will be held accountable.
Fantastic experience: Great experience overall from the time I entered, till the time I left. 100% professional, sincere, thoughtful and friendly. It was my first time here and Doctor Vin Pillai and his nurse were both wonderful, thorough and extremely attentive...plus zero wait time!!!!
Positive experience: Good doctors and staff. Reception is a little rough however.
Negative experience: If I could give -1 or 0 starts I would. It is incredible the amount of money they charge for a service. When I called they told me something different! My brother passed away a month ago due Venous Intestinal Thrombosis and I was urged to check myself by doctor's recommendation. I do not have health insurance and am currently unemployed due Covid situation. I own a small business which has not been in function for the past 5 months, I am not eligible for any PPP or SBA loan since I am sole owner. So, I decided to call Sound view and talk to one of the people at customer service who provided an estimated amount for the physical test, she said around $400 but then, she offered to assist me due my personal situation with some financial aid program and told me I needed to pay $160 only. They gave me the appointment for next day at 3 PM. I went and the person on desk told me I was not on schedule and that blood work is only in the mornings, so they made me do fasting for nothing. Then, they told me to go the next day, blood was taking and told me the bill was being sent to my place. 5 days after I got my bill for over $1,000 to pay in the next 10 days. It is ridiculous and totally unprofessional! I explained my situation before I asked for the service...now, I go to talk to the person at desk and said I did not ask. Do you really think I would've asked for a service I can not pay....I know I am on a very tight budget.. and you people took advantage of the situation for charging even for the paper. PEOPLE PLS DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!
Negative experience: This place is beyond ratchet. The lady with the blond tarantula wig checking temperatures at the front is EXTREMELY rude. I reported her behavior and received a nonchalant attitude. There’s no real leadership there, and no one obviously cares about professionalism. Steer clear of this place.
Negative experience: The most unprofessional and inept medical practice that I have ever seen from the top to bottom. You would be better off going to an ER room if you are sick. Seriously.
Negative experience: Nurses do not give messages to the Doctors. Very poor poor service.
Negative experience: The larger this practice gets, the more bureaucratic it has become to the point where reaching a human being by phone is virtually impossible. Soundview is no longer patient-centric, but corporate-centric. So sad.
Fantastic experience: I've been a patient for many years, with an average number of visits. Unless they are slammed during a flu outbreak, everything goes smoothly and efficiently. I've had several visits like today (routine blood tests), where I barely even sit down. The online patient portal works well and saves time.
Negative experience: Called on multiple occasions to schedule an appointment - one for a regular checkup and another for a medical concern. Their site indicates that either of these doctors have slots available through ZoDoc, which is confusing as the receptionist on the phone advised there are no slots available for new patients for 4 months. When I asked on what to do next, as I'm experiencing a medical concern, she advised to go to Urgent Care. I haven't even been to this office yet and already feel disappointed.
Fantastic experience: The check in process is always incredibly smooth and friendly- staff is very knowledgeable. Bright, cheery, well kept facilities.
Fantastic experience: I’ve had such pleasant experiences here! Dr. Bande and staff were kind and accommodating, with minimal wait time, and an in-house phlebotomist (who was also very quick and nice). I won’t be going anywhere else for my primary care needs!
Fantastic experience: I can't believe the drama with these reviews. I've been using this group with my mom..my self and before my uncle. I've have yet to encounter rude or unapologetic staff. We all have a bad day and let's face it .. People want what the want and it's All about them . ..never understanding the everyday grind of a medical office. No place is perfect.. But lying when so many patients have been going there for many years. Patients are very assuming.. Not a good mindset .
Negative experience: I always get sent to voicemail when trying to make an appointment. Then end up playing phone tag for a few days before finally speaking with someone. And after waiting for an hour in the waiting area you’re greeted by the nurses here who are miserable and rude.
Negative experience: this place is horrible, they never pick up the phone, the fax is always unresponsive. like throw the whole organization away. yall are trash.
Fantastic experience: I believe waiting a bit extra in the waiting room isn’t so bad. Shows me the professionals behind the doors take time with their patients and realize their dealing with lives. Great experience. Will be back.
Negative experience: If I had the option to give them zero stars I would , but I am forced to give them one star. I would go to a Veterinarian before I went back there !
Fantastic experience: The doctors and staffs are wonderful
Fantastic experience: I came to Soundview Urgent Care this past Monday 12/10/18 with over a 103 fever. I was given excellent care and advice on how to manage the flu by the PA Lloydacia Stevens and all of the support staff. This PA was both knowledgeable and extremely kind. I’m happy I chose Soundview for my emergency illness.
Negative experience: Went for preop, took blood for tests, get a call 2days later not enough? I needed go to quest we will send order, go to quest at 1145 Sat and no order sent. Place is an incompetent joke, better suited to take fast food orders and constantly get that wrong rather than managing Healthcare. Avoid and run as soon as you can, going elsewhere for medical care.
Negative experience: This place is an absolute joke. You site here for 40 mins after your appointment time. Front desk has absolutely no idea what they’re doing. Avoid this place at all costs.
Negative experience: What is the point of a walk-in service if there are no doctors available to attend to patients? Better to go to urgent care. This practice is terrible.
Negative experience: I can’t believe how awful my experience on the phone was. It was almost like a robot with a disability. If you’re sick and need to see a doctor in the next 8 months- don’t call here.
Negative experience: Very unresponsive. Hard to reach and make appointments. Been with them for many years. Time to switch.
Negative experience: I wish there could be negative stars. So after having Dr. Chi for over 20 years, because I didnt see him in a 3 year time span (sorry fo being healthy) I am being told he is no longer taking new patients!? Umm, new? The staff is rude, which I overlooked for years because I liked my Dr. Now when I need my Dr. whom knows my history best im being turned away! Don't go here, go anywhere else...Mabe a place that values you as a person and not a dollar sign.
Negative experience: Staff has no bed side manner. The doctors are good but the nurses need more training. Every time I go there I feel like a burden to them. I went to them during a difficult time in my life and and they played semantic games and were unclear in their instructions. Very very disappointed in the way I have been treat by the staff. Like I said I like my doctor. It’s everyone else.
Positive experience: I've been a patient here for over ten years. I really like my doctors a lot and will continue to use them. My gripe is not with the doctors, but with the "group" ...which has grown too large, too inconsiderate and in my opinion has lost sight of their mission ...assuming their mission is to provide healthcare. My son was home for the holidays and was quite sick (bronchitis). I got on the Soundview website and saw that walk-ins were welcome and the next morning drove my son to the Norwalk office. It didn't matter to us which doctor he saw (I have liked all who have seen me) or how long we waited ....he just needed to see a doctor. We were turned away !!! Because my son was not a pre-exisiting patient of one of the doctors, we were turned away ! The fact that I had been a patient for over a decade, that he was my son, that he was sick ...it fell on deaf ears. No amount of pleading helped. There was absolutely no compassion shown whatsoever. All we got was a strict and insincere "...sorry, we can't help you". Are you kidding me ?!? We left and went to the Urgent Care center just down the street. The folks there were very welcoming, examined my son, confirmed his bronchitis, called in a prescription and he recovered a few days later. Soundview Medical turned the son of a long-time patient away and a franchise doc-in-the-box provided us with the care and attention we needed. Soundview Medical needs to reexamine and alter their policies ...and while they are at it, learn people skills. Its time to focus again on healthcare.
Negative experience: Not pleased at all. My elderly mother had an appointment scheduled for this morning, yesterday she called to reschedule because she really didn't want to go out in 14 degree weather. They told her they wouldn't be able to reschedule until 2019 - really? It was January 2, 2018! And people complain about the health care system in Canada where you have to wait for appointments.....
Negative experience: This is the McDonalds of doctors offices. To be fair, most large medical centers are probably like this. In fact, probably most of western medicine is like this. By "like this" I mean: 1. Have high blood pressure at age 29. Know why. I have sedentary / stressful life style due to office job. Simple. Doctor says she will put me on a high blood pressure medication if the reading is high again in a few months. Does not even mention that this could easily be fixed by diet and exercise! (Luckily, I already know this!) Instead, just throws pills at me. If I wanted a drug dealer, I'd hit the corner. 2. Girlfriend has multiple symptoms of Lyme Disease. We live in one of worst areas for Lyme disease and often go hiking. Doctor knows all of this. Doctor refuses to give Lyme Test because the symptoms she has are only reported by 1% of people who have Lyme Disease and she doesn't have the symptom that 80% of people with Lyme Disease have. Doctor clearly is incapable of basic understanding of statistics. It would be impossible for someone to be in both that 1% and 20% grouping at the same time! (that was sarcasm) 3. Watched a girl having a seizure as she was giving blood. Man runs over to nurses desk to get help. The nurses just sit there and listen to the man tell them this probably 5 times. No urgency whatsoever. Takes probably a minute for them to even acknowledge what he is saying and call for help. Hope the girl is ok.
Negative experience: Tried to go to the walk in clinic for mental health issues (anxiety, depression, panic attacks) and was told they can't help me unless something real is actually going on. Unbelievably rude & ignorant staff avoid this place at all costs.
Negative experience: The waiting is ridiculous...... some of the Dr.'s are wonderful Dr. Kelly and Wolinsky ....... for some other Dr.'s I've had to find new ones!!!!! The staff is unprofessional and very rude. !!!!! Don't think the management or executive management team is any better..... which explains why the customer service is so poor ..... a staff is the reflection of their management team ...... so if I see you being rude ... guess what I know I can do ...... so it starts with the head ....... just like Soundview got a makeover from West Ave in Nwlk ...... they need a makeover in management and staff. !!!!!
Negative experience: Horrible , horrible experience. Yes that's two horribles. Make you wait forever with zero explanations or apologies. What's the point of an appointment if you have to sit and wait for 45 minutes past your appointment time. Do yourself a favor and find something better. It might sound attractive because of plethora of doctors available but there are tons of places more professional and less apathetic. Zero stars.
Negative experience: Tried to give them another chanve so many times, not happy with follow ups and the staff
Negative experience: Do not recommend, steer clear! I had made a name change on my account in their office, on their web portal, and on the phone and they STILL were making mistakes. The woman who called this morning to confirm an appointment was rude and inconsiderate. The supervisor who called me was apathetic and did not care at all that I was cancelling my appointment and finding another Dr. In the three years going there I rarely saw the same doctor more than twice, as they kept leaving the practice! They were plenty nice and helpful for the most part, as were the nurse practitioners I saw. The rude office staff, billing mistakes, and constantly changing doctors will have me looking for a more stable practice.
Negative experience: McDonald's of healthcare. While the staff is nice, you'll spend more time with the paperwork than your doctor.
Positive experience: I have been pleased. Going on 2 years. Dr. Bookas runs on time yet I have never felt rushed when I am in with him even though I may ask many questions. The communication through the Soundview Portal seems to work well. For me, this practice has been a great find.
Negative experience: The office staff are very RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL VERY UNPROFESSIONAL as well....
Negative experience: Their office staff is so fresh and rude! You can tell they haven't had the proper training as far as customer service goes. The low-class receptionists are BEYOND unprofessional. The low-class receptionists are BEYOND unprofessional. All you hear is their vulgar gossip among themselves and even the nurses! They must have graduated one of those low-level programs! What a disappointment! And don't even bother taking your complaints higher-up, they'll blow you off all the same. So much for waiting a MONTH for this appointment that I didn't even go into as they made me wait nearly an hour! Walked out! What disrespect. You're in CT - You should uphold the standards of the state and behave professionally. Respect patients, do your job, and leave your bad attitudes at home and out of the workplace!
Negative experience: Disorganized, no follow through, poor customer service.
Negative experience: I would never recommend Soundview. It is like a factory. My new primary-care doctor did not return my phone calls, though I called twice to get the results of blood work I had done in the emergency room. When I was in her office, I asked her to check my nasal passage because I had chronic nose bleeds. She informed me that she didn't have the instrument to look into my nose.
Fantastic experience: I've been a patient with this practice since the early 90's. I've always had the best of care. I find the nurses and all the staff to be knowledgeable, experienced, kind & compassionate. I have experienced the delay in refill approval. When I call the refill into the pharmacy, I call the doctor's nurse to leave a head's up and the Rx is filled accordingly.
Fantastic experience: A high quality and fully equipped facility (including x-ray, etc) that efficiently schedules, diagnoses and treats patients. Excellent follow-up.
Negative experience: Twice it took over two weeks for them to respond to CVS to refill a prescription. If I hadn't hounded them I don't know what would have happened. Had to go back for blood work because the tech did not order the tests that the doctor requested. Fairly chaotic and disorganized place.
Negative experience: The place is understaffed, not enough doctors or nurses, plenty of receptionist discussing among themselves in Spanish about lunch that was two hours away. Lack of customer service, in a few words, "Don't bite off more than you can chew".
Negative experience: The doctors and majority of the staff were wonderful. The office manager on the other hand is rude and does not care for the patients. She is not professional and shouldn't be running an office of that size. I am leaving the practice, not because of the doctors but because of her!
Positive experience: COMPETENT HEALTH FACILITY! I've used Soundview for a few years now and for the most part, they have good doctors. I use Dr. Timothy Bookus, DO and he's great. His nurse Rosa is wonderful and very helpful as well. I also have used Dr. Harvey Riback for gastro and he's nice and very comfortable to work with. Dr. Beger is great too. Everyone there is helpful and competent. I would highly recommend this facility as a good place to receive sound medical care.
