Negative experience: Was having a lot of problems with my neck, back and ankle so I was looking for a chiropractor and saw that Dr. Roger had great reviews so I gave it a try. On my first visit he did like a basic exam of my body to see what I needed to be corrected. I definitely felt very uncomfortable when asked to take my leggings off down to my undergarments and when I refused he made it seem like it was inhibiting him from doing part of the exam. He then continued the exam and had me lie down and he did like a spread eagle stretch with my legs which made me think if I did get undressed down to my underwear I would’ve been completely exposed which was off to me. He did crack my neck and and that felt amazing and that was all he did the first visit. so I went back a second time hoping he would get my back which I told him was causing me pain and he still only gave me relief in my neck and nothing for my back so I stopped going.
I have been in contact with the reviewer above. The following is a response for those who read her uninformed review. This is an explanation of what is standard practice as to provide perspective on this review versus the reality of my practice. Be prepared, this may be a long response.
I would never want a patient to be uncomfortable with any examinations or treatments in our office, however as a skilled healthcare professional, I need to be able to see the area of complaint during the exam, which may require that area be uncovered or exposed for the examination. An examiner needs to look at the skin for several different factors that could play a role in a patient’s condition, like bruising, swelling, redness, mottling, and asymmetry. This is standard practice during an examination. It is a customary practice among healthcare providers, and not observing the area of complaint could lead to something major being missed, like an infection or cancer.
I am one of only a few chiropractors in the state who is certified by the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation to perform independent medical exams on injured workers for the state of Ohio. This is because I have advanced training and am certified by the state’s Disability Evaluators Panel (DEP). Of the thousands of chiropractors in the state of Ohio, only a small number have the advanced training to be credentialed by this board. The patients that are sent to me by the state of Ohio also need to have the area involved inspected visually according to state rules. I follow this state standard in my practice.
A gown would not typically be needed with a foot or elbow exam, but what the patient is wearing can impact the need for a gown. A gown would be needed if a person complaining of knee pain could not pull their pants above the knee or they are wearing a long sleeve shirt and have a shoulder problem. This is how I was taught to perform examinations in chiropractic school and physical examination textbooks, and I have done this for the past 18 years in practice. The practice that I worked at while in chiropractic school and the one that I associated prior to starting my own practice, also both gowned new patients when necessary. Different chiropractors require various things regarding disrobing for appointments. Some chiropractors have all patients disrobe and gown on every visit for treatment because that is what their technique teaches. Unfortunately on the other hand, this means that some chiropractors do not perform a thorough exam.
When checking a person who complains of low back pain, it is wise to check a person’s hips as well, which would involve putting the person’s legs into positions that challenge the joints. A comprehensive examination helps people get better faster because the exam identifies the actual problem on which to focus treatment. For patients who are gowned, I keep them covered during these procedures to keep their modesty. The same care would not need to be taken with a person wearing shorts or leggings since modesty would not be a concern. Extra steps are taken for those who are nervous during their first appointment.
And finally, to make genuine headway with anyone who has had neck and back pain for several months, it takes several treatments. It is not reasonable to expect the resolution of most conditions in two visits when the condition has been affecting a person’s work, sleep, hobbies, and/or daily routine for an extended period of time. My protocol for long-term relief (which is the goal) is a process of adjustments, changes in behavior, soft tissue work and exercises to build mobility and/or strength that will get a person better.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Royer and his staff do a great job adjusting my body and designing personal physical therapy plans tailored to my needs. You won’t find many offices as dedicated to your health as Harmony Chiropractic.

Fantastic experience: Just recently I started having pain in my right heel and it seems to be plantar fasciitis. I hesitantly stopped at Dr. Royer’s booth at the expo in Toledo before I planned on running the 1/2 marathon the next morning. A runner never wants to admit an injury after all. After meeting Dr. Royer and his staff I immediately felt comfortable talking with him. He taped me all up from my foot to the back of my knee and it let off some pressure I was having. I also discussed some other issues I am currently having and he gave me some suggestions that I do plan on following through with. During the race I can say I definitely noticed a difference in my running with the help Dr. Royer provided me. If you are having issues I would recommend Dr. Royer.

Fantastic experience: The amazing team at Harmony Chiropractic has helped me immensely over this past year. I have had intermittent issues w my lower back since age 16. Despite regular yoga and meditation over the last few years, the mental stress of working as a health care provider in 2020 esp, ended up taking a toll on my physical health. After pulling my back out three times within a few weeks, I decided to see Dr. Royer. Within three months of twice weekly adjustments and Graston treatments, I was feeling back to normal functioning. Dr. Royer is always thorough, attentive, and is also excellent educator. Now, I’m on a schedule of going in monthly for adjustments and massage therapy. Brianna, the massage therapist is wonderful and attentive to problem areas. She has helped reduce the frequency of tension headaches I have also been battling over this past year. Chelsea, the office manager is kind, efficient and goes out of her way to find appt times to fit your schedule. This is a practice that truly cares about the well being of their patients. Fantastic experience: Dr. Royer has been treating me for about 6 months for low back pain, which I have suffered with for 20 years. I had back surgery 8 years ago and after that numerous steroid injections without any relief. After being treated by several chiropractors over the past 20 years, I was recommended by a friend to see Dr. Royer. After just 3 weeks of treatment, I was completely pain free and able to do things I haven't been able to do in years. He is currently treating me for knee pain using kinesio taping and the Graston Technique along with teaching me how to do home exercises. Dr. Royer is very thorough in his evaluation of a problem to determine the correct course of action to take in order to relieve the pain. I highly recommend Dr. Royer and his friendly and helpful staff to anyone who is suffering with pain.

Fantastic experience: I am a runner and I was having some Achilles Tendinitis problems that were impacting my running. I had a podiatrist who didn’t want me to run, had me complete 2 MRIs and wear a boot with no resolution. I was feeling hopeless until Dr. Royer helped me with the Graston Technique. Fantastic experience: I first emailed the office manager, Chelsea, and she replied quickly and answered all my questions. I felt so comfortable making an appointment and am happy I did. Fantastic experience: I had the opportunity to meet Dr Royer at the Glass City Marathon Expo. I recently injured my knee and was concerned about re-injuring it during the race. He was able to examine my knee and apply kinetic tape to add support for the race. He took some extra time to make sure that I was ready to go. Fantastic experience: Met Dr Royer and some of his team at the Expo for the Glass City Marathon. My trainer has been saying I have ITB issues but that didn't seem right to me. Dr Royer did a quick assessment, then taped me up for a patellar tracking dysfunction, and I went on to PR my half marathon the next day with zero knee pain. If I weren't 1.5 road hours away, I'd have Dr Royer as my chiropractor for sure.

Fantastic experience: A yardwork-imposed sore back sent me to Harmony Chiropractic's booth at the Glass City Marathon Expo. Dr. Royer and his staff were there to save the day - and my aching back. Ten minutes and a little KT tape later I was on my way. The next morning I ran the full marathon with minimal discomfort . What a relief! Thanks for helping me finish the race!

Fantastic experience: I love Harmony Chiropractic Center! After moving to Toledo, I knew I needed to look for a new chiropractor. From my first visit to Harmony, I could see Dr. Royer was extremely caring and professional. When describing the pain I was experiencing in my neck and hips, he listened and put a plan into action. He gave me exercises to do at home as well as adjustments every week in the office. I no longer experience headaches from my neck pain, which makes going to work and doing everyday things a breeze. Also my hips no longer hurt, which makes intimacy extremely better. Overall, going to Dr. Royer's office has been one of the best decisions I've made!

Fantastic experience: Testimonial (no limit): I had chronic pain that I thought I was going to have to live with for the rest of my life in my early 60’s. It felt like an icepick was being stabbed behind my shoulder blade, which then radiated down my right arm all the way to my hand, as well as downward throughout my right ribcage. I also have pretty advanced arthritis, and some scary X-Rays to prove it. I dreaded bending over to pick something up off the floor, or lifting anything heavier than a few pounds. Sometimes just sitting in the car would be so painful there would be tears in my eyes. I’ve always been a fan of chiropractic, having been a professional ballet dancer with a 15 year career in New York City. However, as talented as my former chiropractor was, and as many injuries he’d helped me get through, this one was not getting better. So my chiropractor referred me to his chiropractor, Dr. Royer, who had helped him through a golf shoulder injury. Dr. Royer’s knowledge of sports injuries and Graston has changed my life. I am thrilled to say that the pain and tightness in my back improved more and more rapidly starting with three visits a week, to two visits a week, to one a week. Two years later, I now live completely pain free, and just have a maintenance visit every 3 to 4 weeks. My flexibility is fantastic, I can do anything I could do in my late 40’s. I do yoga, lift light weights, bicycle, swim, and have absolutely no pain. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Royer and his wonderful staff. Fantastic experience: I give Dr. Royer 5 stars. My daughter is on the high school swim team. Early in the season she was experiencing intense neck and shoulder pain with limited range of motion. She would cry while she was swimming in her meets. The coach had her see the athletic trainer who recommended Dr. Royer. I have been skeptical of chiropractors. I have been in the healthcare field for over 20 years and most physicians I have worked with are not believers in chiropractic care. During my daughter's first visit, I was impressed with how thorough an exam Dr. Royer performed. It involved motor, sensory, and range of motion assessments which proved to me he is very knowledgeable. My daughter and I appreciated how he kept her privacy/modesty protected. He was very professional and gained my trust and confidence in chiropractic care. The treatments included adjustments, graston therapy, and applying kinesio tape to her shoulder for the swim meets. My daughter was also given exercises to do at home. Within a couple weeks her pain was decreased and her range of motion was improving. Without these treatments, my daughter would not have been able to complete her high school swim season and her healing process would have taken a lot longer. She was able to compete and make sectionals despite her injury. She was able to keep her speed and earn her varsity letter doing what she loves. Her range of motion was back to 90% by the end of the season, which is quicker than without therapy. Keep in mind swim season is very short but intense. My daughter and I are so thankful for Dr. Royer's expertise and care. Chelsea, the office manager, and the rest of the staff are fantastic. They are professional and compassionate. The office is very clean. There are late appointments to accommodate work schedules. We were able to get in quickly too. They also offer appointment reminder texts. I would definitely recommend Dr. Royer to family and friends.
