Fantastic experience: I am the victim of being struck by a vehicle when I was a pedestrian. This did not result in permanent limb or chest damage but caused me a T.B.I. which killed my balance receptors and left me in a wheelchair for over half a decade. Within the past year I found Brain Meets Brawn and it’s given me great hope of a possible recovery. I’m still working on the balance there but they have bulked me up and gotten me totally prepared for running the track once I sort out my balance. It’s okay I can sense that it’s starting to get sorted out so I’m confident that it’ll be fixed soon if I continue visiting them
Fantastic experience: My husband and 8 year old son have been seeing Mike to help with injury recovery, flexibility and stength training. They have been attending sessions for over a year and my 8 year old says it’s his favorite activity! He’s on the smaller side and his strength has really improved for sports. Mike is fabulous with all ages and all needs. It’s worth the 60 minute commute!
Fantastic experience: I started working with Michael after recovering from a broken bone and surgery. I was looking for someone that was more targeted than standard physical therapy, and more personalized than standard personal training. BMB hits that sweet spot in the middle! Working with Michael, I've built so much strength, have discovered imbalances that were causing pain, and have learned proper form to avoid injury (I can do squats again pain free!). BMB is worth the investment. Can't recommend enough!

Fantastic experience: I reached out to Mike as a soon-to-be father with chronic back pain. I wanted to prepare myself to handle the lifting and general wear and tear of fatherhood. My training sessions with Mike significantly improved my strength, flexibility, and mobility. I now have a suite of indispensable mental and physical tools that help assuage my back pain and allow me to be the active father I hoped to be. Before beginning our sessions, I remember dividing the cost of a given plan by the number of sessions included to get an idea of what I was getting for the money...this was completely naive! The value that Brain Meets Brawn provides goes FAR beyond the session itself. The video content and nutritional guidance were a major help in achieving my goals. Kris and Mike are fantastic, teaching me how to move my body the correct way while doing workouts. Fantastic experience: I moved across the country and what I miss most about Michigan is training with Mike and Kris at Brain Meets Brawn. Exercises are individualized to meet each client's different physical needs and fitness goals. Each movement they teach is effective! Simply adjusting my knee placement and bracing my core improved my squat and form on other exercises tremendously! It's like strengthening the mind/body connection by reprogramming my muscle memory. While I throughly enjoyed the physical aspect, it was so much more than a workout for me! They motivate in a way that makes me feel mentally stronger as well. The word can't will never cross your mind because they believe you CAN! Training here was the best investment I've ever made for myself and my body. You changed my life! Fantastic experience: Never in my life have I been serious and committed to any fitness program, gym or classes. Brain Meets Brawn has completely changed how I feel about fitness and about exercise in general. I’ve been going to BMB for about 3 months now, and in that time, Kris has helped me to rehab a nagging rotator cuff and scapula issue I have been experiencing for almost 10 years now. He took my concerns seriously about my lack of confidence in the stability in my shoulder and took the rehab process step by step. Today, I feel stronger than I have in 10 years, am almost totally pain free (long trips left me in excruciating pain before) and have the confidence to continue pushing further into my fitness and strength training journey. I also cannot say enough about how personable and approachable this place is. Mike knows the name of every client who walks through the door and is always there to say hello. Kris has been prepared and ready for every session I have scheduled and always has the session planned out to make the most of each session. Fantastic experience: Chiming in on the great experiences I've had at Brain Meets Brawn. Joined the gym as a 60th birthday present to establish a well-thought out exercise regime that achieved weight reduction and strengthening goals without injuries. Six months in, it has been one of my best decisions. Working primarily with Kris, I have become more flexible, stronger and seeing muscles that went AWOL in the 80's. Kris (and Mike) used many different exercises for methodical improvement. I have felt appropriately challenged along the way and find that Kris has a good idea how much more is possible before I do. Kris does a great job explaining how to do the routines, including the logic/physics behind the actions which I find very helpful when executing them. He is very picky on form, but it pays off when you finally feel the targeted muscle respond as expected. He is now also helping me through recovery from a pickleball calf strain/tear. Kris and Mike have earned a five-star rating, as well, with the laid back yet intimate atmosphere of the gym. Can't say enough good things about BMB.
Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend this place enough. Brain Meets Brawn was recommended to me when I was looking for personal training that focused on injury recovery. I had a knee injury in 2018 that I never fully recovered from and caused me to shy away from strength training due to knee pain, and needed someone to work with me to get my strength up. I have been working with Kris for about 6 months and not only am I down 25lbs, up in muscle mass, but my knee pain has been significantly reduced. Both Michael and Kris have an amazing approach to mobility and fitness and work at your pace while challenging you. I HIGHLY recommend giving them a try!

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough nice things about BMB and my time working out with Kris. It was a perfect spot for me to land after having wrist surgery and graduating from physical therapy. The workouts adapt to what I need and get harder as I build strength. I’ve learned so many good habits to better care for my physical health and am so glad I found BMB.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been working out with the trainers at BMB for nearly a year now. The improvement I’ve seen in my mobility and reduction of back and sciatic pain is significant! They took the time to find the weaknesses that were at the base of my pain and have built me up from there. Fantastic experience: My youngest son suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) when he was hit by a car while crossing a street several years ago. He has made significant progress over the years learning to speak, read a write once again. He still struggles to walk and is limited in the use of his left hand. He has worked with several therapists at private practices, hospitals and a variety of therapeutic practices. We were luck enough to have found Brain Meets Brawn in January 2023 and after attending his first assessment session we knew that we finally found a place where he could make significant progress. He has been working with Mike and Kris twice a week for six months and the regimen has improved his strength, stamina and helped improve his outlook on his future. This week he started three sessions per week which he’d been asking to do for several weeks, but Kris was adamant about waiting for the right time to add in another session. My son is now able to use a walker, dress himself, shower, shave and perform normal daily routines. He has reenrolled in college and will attend a Calculus 2 class this fall. I can’t emphasize how much BMB has helped my son’s physical, emotional and overall positive outlook on life after meeting and working with Kris and Mike.
Fantastic experience: Best decision ever coming to train here. These guys are professional Athletic Trainers who come from a background of helping people recover from serious injury and it shows. They know how and why the body works, and they've used that very extensive knowledge to help me meet and exceed many of my fitness goals in just around 6 months (and we're well on our way to hitting the rest of them). The focus on form, recovery, and proper nutrition has allowed me to see results that I frankly never thought I would due to previous injury. Amazing team here who will work with you on a customized plan and help you accomplish your goals and then some!
Fantastic experience: Brain Meets Brawn provides the best combination of physical therapy and personal training, and has changed my life significantly. I suffered from lower back pain for 12 years, which greatly limited my activities. I couldn't run, jump, twist, and therefore limited my activities, and fun through my 30's and beyond. I have been going to BMB for a year now, and I can run, hike, jump, kayak, ride a bike, dance, and so much more than I couldn't do before - all without pain. I'm also stronger, more capable/agile physically, and understand how to properly use my body for the first time in my life. After almost 30 years of desk jobs and zero consideration for proper posture, the difference is remarkable. I am truly grateful for Mike and his team for helping me turn my physical life around. Fantastic experience: I started recovery work with Michael after bilateral hip replacements. When life presents challenges running away is easy and running ahead is nearly impossible. However, Brain Meets Brawn’s athletic training helped me navigate these challenges towards a full recovery. Mike pinpointed strength and flexibility weaknesses that specifically caused my hip problems in the first place. He set challenging goals to improve my mobility and overall body strength and awareness starting with the basics. Mike clearly explained the functional basis of exercises, providing me with a working knowledge of corrective exercise habits.

Fantastic experience: I couldn't write a better review. I have chronic issues with neck and back pain due to a severe jaw injury I sustained several years ago. Max has been more helpful than any physical therapist I have seen, and has helped me to strengthen the muscles in my body to take the strain off of my neck and back (plus therapudic massage!) It's too bad this kind of service isn't covered by insurance, but for me it is well worth the out-of-pocket expense. Such a wonderful business with wonderful employees!
Positive experience: I’m very new to personal training, but I can tell that this guy knows what he’s doing. He teaches a rather, at first meeting, unconventional approach to working out and fitness. It’s something that is easy to not take seriously when you have workout experience, however, once you go to a few sessions, you’ll get the feel for what he is trying to accomplish and it’s far more valuable than anything other personal training place I have seen. The trainers show the correlation that the brain has to the body, and how it stops you from working out to your fullest extent. Their mission is to train that body to brain connection and maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of your workouts. Not going lie, there is a bit of a learning curve to these workouts, but the trainers at Brain and Brawn teach you how to carry out common workout moves the right way, without putting strain on your back or compensating with any other muscles. The fitness regime combines both strength and mobility, ensuring that you will both elongate and strengthen your muscles, thus making sure that all potential weak points are targeted and worked on. I’ve only gone to a few sessions and I am feeling stronger already and not to mention more comfortable in the a gym-like atmosphere. It feels incredible!! I highly recommend this to anyone who is stuck in a rut with fitness and wants to up their workout game. Also, just a heads up, they just started an app so you can do workouts on the go if needed. They are extremely helpful as they have all the instructions that he would usually give in person both in a mixed written and video format. This app ensures that I am getting quality workouts even when I am not going into the training facility. Not going to lie though, I can’t give it a full 5 stars solely because the price is a little steep (and there is always room for improvement). :) That aside, highly recommended. Fantastic experience: Overall great trainers and great program! They are very good and strengthening your weaknesses and breaking bad habits. The trainers are very patient but will give you a good kick in rear when you need it as well. The only complaint I have is how sore I get the next day! Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: Mike & team are the best! I came here after getting shooed away from physical therapy and realizing I never got to the root of my pain. This place is a great alternative to physical therapy that mixes in more strength training. They will get a few layers deeper and address muscle imbalances and overcompensation. Once you get through a few sessions, you'll notice muscles you never knew existed and walk out stronger and smarter than before.
Fantastic experience: I began coming to BMB with Mike back in April to start getting back in shape and tackle some movement and mobility issues I’ve been struggling with for years. Every workout has been challenging and fun. Mike is an excellent, knowledgeable trainer, and is very attentive and educational during the workouts. Fantastic experience: Brain Meets Brawn offers a unique training solution -- I would say it is a cross between personal training and a little bit of physical therapy. The focus is not really on going hard and getting sweaty, as is often the case with personal training, it is geared more towards achieving your goals while practicing proper form and preventing injury. If you're interested in exercising more purposefully and being more intune with your body, I would highly recommend BMB.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been training here for about a month now and I have nothing but positive things to say. The facility is very clean and personal, no intimidating death machines. Mike has been awesome from my initial consultation and very understanding regarding any issues I may have. My trainer John has been great at assessing my physical ability while still pushing me to do my best. He really makes me feel comfortable and I can already see the progress we’ve made since I started. This is my second time having a personal trainer and this is by far the most comprehensive approach. We go over everything from diet, to health issues, and the science behind it all. I cannot recommend this place enough. Do yourself a favor and join now. You will not regret it!!!

Fantastic experience: I enjoy personal training at this facility. My sessions are specific to my needs/goals and it’s not a “one size fits all” approach. I had a previous injury limiting my range of motion and my trainer Max gave me exercises that supported my healing and increased my strength. I now have better range and less discomfort. I also discovered that I was doing some common exercises ( squats )incorrectly. A few minor adjustments made a world of difference! While the energy of the facility is easy going and light, the trainers are serious business. No fluff here. I’ve seen all ages and body shapes/sizes. This space feels safe and inclusive. Also of note, the trainers are constantly cleaning the equipment, which I appreciate. Every trainer has his/her own space and it seems to work. Finally, the owner provides access to exercise videos that can be done at home in addition to an easy to use app that helps track exercise and nutrition goals/progress. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: I started coming here because every time I exercised, I would end up hurting myself somehow. I didn’t know proper form. So far, I am really liking training with Mike. He’s fun and has a positive attitude, and I have learned a lot already. I know what we are doing is working because I’m sore after every workout, but not in a painful way. I can feel the right muscles working. I plan on coming regularly and look forward to my results!

Fantastic experience: Brain Meets Brawn Fitness Solutions was exactly what I was looking for in a facility. I am a bikini bodybuilder posing coach and I hosted a posing clinic at this location. The facility is private, well kept, clean, sanitized and creates a welcoming environment. Although equipment was not necessary for my session, all the exercise equipment were new, clean and aesthetically pleasing with the placement around the facility. The mirrors were perfect for the intent behind my clinic because competitors are able to see themselves in proper form. The amenities made this even more of an experience to host as we were able to utilize speakers and plenty of room to move and teach athletes. My athletes and all who came out loved the facility and we will definitely be coming by again. Highly recommend!!
Fantastic experience: First off, LOVE this place. I hadn’t really worked out in about 15 years, and every time I did, I’d end up hurting myself and instead of being at the gym 3 days a week, I’d be at the chiropractor 3 days a week. I started working out here about three months ago and let me just tell you all, I haven’t seen the chiropractor ONCE since starting. Mike and Nicole are both AMAZING. I feel the best I’ve felt since high school. These two are both so knowledgeable and FUN… and the best part is seeing and feeling the results. They really give you all the tools, motivation and knowledge you need to succeed.

Fantastic experience: I have been working out with Mike the owner for 8 months. I went from 280 pounds and I am down to 240 pounds now. I have learned a lot from Mike and his staff. He makes working out a couple times a week fun,even on days I don't want to go I am happy I went. The gym and staff are nice and enviting.

Fantastic experience: I have been attending personal training sessions with Mike. He is extremely knowledgable and attentive to detail. I have really enjoyed the focus on ergonomics and proper technique to avoid injuries. I have been able to apply a lot of what I learn in my sessions to other areas of day-to-day life as well. I also appreciate the minimal equipment needed for many of the exercises - it makes it very easy to replicate our work-outs at home. I will definitely be coming back for more!

Fantastic experience: This place has been nothing but top tier. Regardless of what you want to come in for, I'd say just do it - you won't regret it. Finding this place and working with Mike has been wonderful. I've made so much progress with the injuries I have sustained from playing volleyball. It's crazy how much range of motion I have now, after a few months working with him. He's very knowledgeable on anatomy, corrective exercises, and sport injuries. What I love the most is that even though he's pushing me through my workouts, he's attentive to how I feel and makes sure I'm comfortable. He's made his space feel very safe, which was something important for me when looking for a trainer. Also the facility is very well kept, and disinfected often!

Fantastic experience: I love working out with Mike at Brain Meets Brawn! I have an impingement in my right shoulder that landed me in physical therapy. I told my therapist I was considering finding a personal trainer to help refresh my workout routine (I’ve been pretty much doing the same routine for 20 years) and she encouraged me to find a trainer with a background in injuries. So I jumped on Google and started searching. At first I wasn’t sure how BMB would work for me because I live in Dearborn and don’t have a ton of time for a 30 minute, one way, drive. I’ve been working work Mike for a few months now and am so glad I decided to try him out. He’s fantastic - he listens to me, customizes my workouts around my shoulder issue, gives me great advice on how to incorporate what we’re doing in his studio at home and at the gym, and he’s got a good personality. Also, he has a partner, Nichole, who works with him and covers for him on his time off - she’s great too. Lastly, the workout studio is super clean, which is always a plus.

Fantastic experience: When looking for a personal trainer I did a lot of research. As someone with preexisting injuries I wanted to make sure I found someone who would not only push me and help me increase my strength but also go about it in a safe way. Fantastic experience: I have recommended Mike Gorney’s personalized training to my friends and family. He is very focused on correcting an individual’s long term weaknesses / problems in order to develop a solid base on which to build improved physical capabilities and fitness. I have made progress on issues that have been nagging problems for years. He also helped me get rid of the “Covid shutdown” rust without injuring myself. I have been a student of physical fitness and exercise for many years and yet I have learned a great deal from Mike on the nuances of physiology, biomechanics and training. He stresses excellent technique. Although Mike is extremely knowledgeable, he is constantly looking for “a better way”. Working out with Mike doesn’t feel like “work” because he is personable and enthusiastic. Again, I highly recommend him.

Fantastic experience: Mike is a consummate professional. Above and beyond anything I've ever experienced with one on one, personal training. Not only is Mike laser focused with impeccable attention to detail, he explains exactly the whats and whys of your training. This ain't no one size fits all! I've learned so much about how to breathe, slow down and focus on individual movements that are re-training my brain to understand the specific exercise and how to do them correctly. I've had a couple of group class/individual training injuries from years ago that Mike has been able to address safely. I actually feel stronger and more steady because I'm doing the movements with confidence and seeing results. I gained about 12 lbs since March of this year and can already see changes: instead of 2 muffin tops, I now have 1!

Fantastic experience: I met Michael several years ago at age eighty eight. I had been exercise off and on, not regularly, and with no particular program.He showed no “attitude at all about my age, was a tough but fun trainer. He pushed me hard,and for better and for worse,didn’t lower the bar for me,even when I complained, as a result, I regained my posture, improved my flexibility, significantly increased my strength, and got me into a regular regimen. I had doubts about on line training,, but Michael’s program is easy to follow, I’ve found it particularly helpful to be able to pause and repeat an exercise until I’ve mastered it, This method is obviously convenient,. And I find on line as well as in person supervision. particularly helpful and motivational. What more can I say? TRY IT,,,,,YOU’LL LIKE IT!

Fantastic experience: Started at BMB a couple months ago. Mike has helped me build my strength and believe more in myself of things I never knew I could do. Even after finding out I was expecting baby #3, Mike has been helping me through my workouts without overexerting myself. Also, with COVID running rampant, Mike does a great job with keeping the classes to a minimum and always makes sure everything is regularly clean and disinfected. Fantastic experience: There is a lot to say when you thought you were doing 50 push ups and really you can only do 5 the CORRECT way! I thought I was pretty advanced too. I am 38 and was looking for a hard workout and to be pushed but I needed the focus on me doing the work out right. My body thanks you Brain Meets Brawn! I have been safely working out muscles that I didn't know that I had....I recommend this for everyone who doesn't want health problems when you get older because you worked out incorrectly for many years. I thought I was doing it right. Now I am for sure!

Fantastic experience: Would give it more stars if I possibly could. I run my own fitness business (WolfPack Fitness) and before I found this studio I was dangerously close to not having a place to operate. Mike offered the option of renting time at his studio and I have never looked back. Awesome, spacious, equipped, clean and very COVID safe place to train. If you need a place to train people, work out or do anything fitness related, 20/10 highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience with this place. I asked Mike to help me put on as much size as I could in the month leading up to my wedding to help me fill out my suit a little better. A month isn't a long time to gain size but I did see the kind of results I was hoping for. During that month, he helped me identify some deficits and limitations (didn't realize I couldn't put my arms straight up above my head with my back straight for example) that I'm continuing to work on. As an avid rock climber, mobility can be as important as strength, so I'm excited to see it affects my climbing once I can get back to the climbing gym. Lastly, Mike helped me really work on my form during workouts, as well as being mindful of engagement as I go through the motions. I would highly recommend Brain Meets Brawn to anyone looking to improve their fitness.

Fantastic experience: As a private member for studio rental at Brain Meets Brawn, I can't say enough about how great the experience has been. Mike, the owner, is always make sure the cleaning/disinfecting policies are upheld, and is consistently seeks input from members on our experience and the value of the membership. The ability to have a private gym all to myself, with a great selection of equipment for cardio, weight lifting, yoga, Pilates, and stretching, is amazing. Not to mention I can play my own music without having to wear headphones the entire time! The space is always clean and welcoming, and the convenience of reserving a studio rental time slot online, is wonderful. I highly recommend checking it out for a safe, clean, and affordable solution for a non "big-box gym" experience.

Fantastic experience: You'll probably never meet someone more qualified to run this studio than Mike. Though he was an athletic trainer by education, trained to work out elite athletes, Mike's first full-time job out of undergrad involved providing rehabilitation for people suffering from serious brain and spine injuries. I've personally seen the impact he's had on so many clients and students of every different fitness level. In working with Mike over the years, I myself have regained significant flexibility and foundation in my core, even switching up my daily routine at a desk job to better incorporate fitness into my life. Fantastic experience: I really can’t say enough good things about training with Michael. He really did help change my life, I was a size 16 when we met and went down to a size 10! It wasn’t super fast or easy, because he forced me to actually do it the right way. He helped me learn about the body, proper form, diet, and all the things you know you’re supposed to do but never hold yourself accountable for. I usually hate personal trainers but our personalities clicked and he was able to whip me into shape while also being super supportive and not pissing me off too much, just enough to keep me coming back for more. If you are on the fence about working with him, definitely just do it, he’s the best!
