Toledo Center for Eating Disorders: Reviews
Fantastic experience: If you’re looking for help, look no further. The staff at this clinic are compassionate providers who actually want to help and see you thrive. The building is also beautiful and their programming is wonderful!
Fantastic experience: The facility reached out to donate materials to my classroom. When going to pick up the materials, the staff helped me load everything into vehicle. The staff was very friendly. I was given a tour of the facility afterwards. Very clean and well maintained.
Fantastic experience: This place was acquired by new management in 2019 and has gotten all new staff since 2022. There have been numerous building updates including new furniture and floors, and a new food philosophy (chef on-site no more microwaveable meals). The clinical programming changed to include dialectical behavioral therapy, trauma informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems, art therapy, yoga and music therapy! Wonderful place with wonderful people who care about their patients!
Fantastic experience: Such wonderful staff here. They were so kind and caring to our family during a difficult time. Can not recommend this place enough
Fantastic experience: The Toledo Center for Eating Disorders provides truly exceptional care, and much of that is thanks to their outstanding leadership team. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that the center is guided by professionals who are not only highly experienced but also genuinely compassionate and dedicated to making a difference in the lives of their clients.
Fantastic experience: This place goes above and beyond- incredible staff and program!
Fantastic experience: Staff here have been so wonderful!
Fantastic experience: Very caring and hardworking staff. It’s nice to find people who really just want to help others.
Fantastic experience: i spent some time at tced last year in march and it was one of the best experiences for me, i met a lot of amazing people that i am still friends with today and i got the support i needed in a safe no-judgement space! kayla was my favorite rc there, we always talked and bonded and she made it feel like i wasn’t a “patient” des also ran a few amazing groups while i was there that helped me challenge my perfectionism tendencies. kim and dana were amazing to talk to about anything. shawn was by far the best nurse on staff always bringing fidgets and pick pads to me and making me feel safe to express myself. elena (i probably spelled her name wrong cause i always used to) was quite the chef as well as a comedic relief for everyone. overall my time here was amazing and i would totally recommend this place to anyone seeking out treatment for any eating disorder
Fantastic experience: This is not an easy review to write because anyone looking here is probably dealing with a hard time. We received great care here. If you are looking for help, call them and speak to the staff. This decision is extremely personal. I recommend this place and the staff. Kimberly is excellent (like all of them). They definitely care and are passionate about helping in this battle.
Fantastic experience: Our daughter had been in and out of treatment centers, but finally things came together for her at Toledo Center for Eating Disorders residential program. The staff met her where she was in her journey and helped her move forward towards recovery. It was a warm and caring environment. It was also smaller and felt less institutional. I found the scenery pleasant when I visited. The staff seemed caring and relaxed. My daughter is doing well in her step down program and we are hopeful for the first time in a long time. I would recommend them highly.
Fantastic experience: I was admitted to TCED in July 2024, I was at my lowest of rock bottoms. Suffering with an eating disorder and a few other mental health diagnosis. I was more than ready to give up the fight. From all the staff at TCED: Clinical staff, Nursing, Kitchen staff, RC's, etc they all are compassionate, transparent, encouraging and open minded. Not one of them gave up on me and for that I am forever grateful. I have developed many healthy coping skills and accepted a new way of thinking that has been beneficial to my recovery journey and my life. Not only did TCED help me to find my reasons to live they also saved my life. I'm forever grateful for being admitted to TCED. After I left TCED, the alumi coordinator Kim, reaches out to see how I am doing and she always is sure to remind me she is here to support me.
Fantastic experience: I did both residential and PHP at TCED, and can confidently say that all I’ve learned has vastly improved my approach to recovery for the better. My first couple of weeks were rocky and I was planning on discharging early but I’m glad I stayed, as they diligently worked to resolve issues in the milieu. I spent the holiday season there and they honestly made it one of the best I’ve had in years and am grateful for all they did for us. Compared to places I’ve been in the past, TCED does well at including and talking about all types of eating disorders and recognizing individual differences. I felt seen and understood for the first time, Kam is a terrific therapist and I got a lot out of our sessions. The dieticians are both amazing, and are there to support you when transitioning from residential to php (such as going grocery shopping with you, meal outings, challenge snacks etc.). I am from Michigan, so I stayed at the php house that they offer as an option for those who live outside of the area. Staff would pick up/drop off each day which was nice. Overall, TCED is an amazing facility and if I ever need help again I would go back in a heartbeat.
Fantastic experience: I will never stop recommending this place to my friends and Colleagues! This place has helped me not only with my eating disorder but gave me the tools and skills to be able to help me with the feelings that come with taking this journey. I was surrounded with so much support 24/7 and the staff is absolutely amazing and incredible! Even after I left I have been reached out to by the leader of the alumni group asking me how I am doing. This place saves lives.
Fantastic experience: From the moment I arrived at TCED I felt safe, welcomed, and understood. The staff is incredibly caring, always going above and beyond to ensure everyone receives the best care. The supportive environment, staff, and therapeutic activities created the perfect setting for hope, healing, and recovery. I highly recommend TCED for anyone in need of recovery.
Positive experience: I admitted for 3 days. During my 3 days, I had significant seizures that led to hospitalizations. It was then determined that I wasn't medically stable. I advocated hard for myself with the program director, Olivia Dunbar, and the medical director, Dr. Scales. They were fabulous in getting me readmitted. However, the day of my return wasn't the best, and I decided to leave. Some of the therapy staff isn't very knowledgeable and would benefit some additional training. The groups are not as structured as they could be, and the content is very surface level. There is also a communication deficit between therapy staff and techs. However, if your biggest challenge and need is just support around getting balanced meals in, then this is a good option. The 5 are knowledgeable and push again eating disorder thoughts. Overall, I'd recommend Toledo. I suggest considering all the options around you and make the best informed decision, and facility that best fits your needs.
Negative experience: We entrusted the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders with our daughter’s care, believing it to be a safe and supportive environment. However, upon her return home, she disclosed deeply concerning events that allegedly took place during her stay. According to her, she overdosed on medication while under their care and self-harmed using a razor blade that was smuggled into the facility—YET WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED BY STAFF OF THESE EVENTS, NOR WAS OUR DAUGHTER OFFERED MEDICAL CARE. We only learned of them when we saw fresh wounds on her wrists and noticed signs of distress upon her return. As parents, we should have been immediately informed of such serious medical and safety concerns. It is unacceptable that our daughter was allegedly left without proper medical intervention or supervision. We urge anyone considering this facility to ask tough questions about their safety protocols and transparency. We hope this facility takes immediate steps to prevent similar incidents from happening to other vulnerable patients in their care.
Fantastic experience: Helped me manage my eating disorders and get back on a normal schedule for eating each meal and snack.
Fantastic experience: The staff shows genuine care for every patient. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful. TCED’s approach to food and recovery is very open-minded, gentle, and reassuring, making it a very comfortable environment
Fantastic experience: I admitted to TCED on August 8, 2024 and little did I know it was going to be a 3 month stay. However, I will never regret it. I have never experienced a life away from my eating disorder or any other mental health concerns, and this place has given me the opportunity to know myself for the first time ever. TCED saved my life from a lifetime of suffering, relapse, and devastation and I would not be where I am today without every staff member there. Alex was my therapist during my time there and there are simply no words to explain how instrumental she was in my recovery, and truly in my life. She went above and beyond to support me, encourage me, and allow me to learn how to choose me. Natalie was my dietician while I was at TCED and she is so filled with knowledge. There were many days where I did not trust that she knew what she was talking about, but my body has never felt as good as it does, I have never been able to hear my body's hunger cues as well as I do now, and my experience with food is completely different than when I first walked in. Every single staff member from leadership, to RC's, to kitchen staff, are ALL passionate about what they do and it shows everyday. There was not a single time where I was left to fight alone, and the culture that is created here is what made my recovery possible. I will forever thank TCED for giving me a chance at life, and for constantly believing in me, whether I believed in myself or not. If you are looking for a place that is passionate, genuine, supportive, empathetic, hard working, and instrumental, I will always recommend TCED. Thank you TCED for giving me the opportunity to live. I am forever changed.
Hi Naomi, It is always a pleasure to see we made a difference for you. The way you speak about the staff, from Alex to Natalie and everyone involved, highlights the dedication and expertise they bring to the healing process. It’s especially powerful how you describe learning to trust yourself and your body again—something so many people struggling with an eating disorder can relate to. We genuinely appreciate the time you have taken to share this experience with us.
Fantastic experience: Best place for treatment I have ever been to Great staff! Great experience
Hi Jennifer, It is always a pleasure to see we made a difference for you. We genuinely appreciate the time you have taken to share this experience with us.
Fantastic experience: I relapsed and came back to TCED after a year and the staff was completely different , aside from a few previous staff members. I was worried but the mix of new and old staff were SO kind and supportive and I’m so thankful to have been able to come back here for my treatment. Also, Elena deserves the excellence award and Kim is one of the greatest people I know. One more thing, hope you get Brooklyn as your therapist, they just SEE you

Hi Joshua, thank you for your positive feedback!
Fantastic experience: The kitchen staff was amazing and very helpful!
Hi Owen, thank you for your positive review!
Fantastic experience: TCED not only saved my life, they helped me find it again! I was a patient here twice after battling an eating disorder for over 18 years. I always felt like they were on my side and truly wanted to help. It took me a couple tries…considering I had been living with an ED for so long. But I chose TCED again the second time. I knew they could provide me all the tools I needed. I just had to truly apply myself and choose a new way in life. I have had both dieticians, they are incredible, compassionate, and I learned so much from both of them. Each of them helped me see the truth around my “fear foods”. I have been with two of the therapists there and both guided me towards the path to recovery with what my needs were at that time. Nursing staff is compassionate and honest with you, I always loved that. The kitchen staff are amazing! I have learned so many new recipes thanks to the awesome menu! I was close to quite a few RCs. They were compassionate and fair when it came to rules. I can think of a few who truly wanted to see me succeed and I’ll be forever thankful for their guidance! Recovery takes time and you truly want to have it to find it. Thank you TCED, I actually did it ❤️ EDIT 8.16.24 I recently attended the two week PHP intensive program. Highly recommend to anybody who needs a reset in their recovery. I was able to get back on a regular eating schedule, attend groups that helped support me and my body image, nutrition guidance, emotional regulation, and more! It truly set me on a better path in my road to recovery. So thankful I went and would do it again if I felt I needed to.

Hi Ashlyn! Thank you for sharing this feedback about Toledo Center. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment.
Fantastic experience: TCED saved my life. I have been in residential before, but none of them can beat TCED. The staff is so helpful, especially when you're dealing with hard things. My therapist, Alex, is the one who truly helped me in more ways than imaginable. Alex and my wonderful Dietician, Natalie, ACTUALLY prepared me for my future and for upcoming challenges I might deal with at home. They were both so helpful. The RCS are all so wonderful! I miss them all already. Overall, the whole staff is so caring and kind! If you are looking for somewhere to begin your journey, I highly encourage checking out TCED! I'm proud of you for even looking for somewhere to heal, that takes a lot! RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE. Never doubt yourself. You are all beautiful inside and out. You truly deserve recovery -kyrie<3
Hi Kyrie! It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and your experience with Toledo Center. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment. We wish you the best and we will always be here for you!
Fantastic experience: TCED continues to be a great support for our D and our family. Recovery is a non-linear journey and even after she left the Center, we have needed support which is provided through the Family Group weekly calls. This is a safe space for family members to ask questions, share experiences, be there for each other in the good/bad/ugly days, etc. There is hard work after the Center and this group makes me feel I am not alone, and is a forum to continue my EDucation. I appreciate so much that TCED invests in this group. Forever grateful.
Hi Laura! Thank you for sharing this kind and genuine feedback. Each member of our team strives to provide compassionate and nurturing care for our clients. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment.
Fantastic experience: While residential treatment has the ability to save lives, Toledo Center not only saved but CHANGED my life. I have struggled with my eating disorder since middle school, and have received treatment at a handful of inpatient/residential facilities, Toledo Center was a game changer. The therapists (who you see individually twice per week) are dedicated, knowledgeable about EDs, and truly treat you as an individual. The dietetic and kitchen staff are great at what they do. Treatment does involve A LOT of exposure work around food, and I found this was paramount to reducing my symptoms. Food is also cooked fresh prior to every meal, and 9/10 very enjoyable (sometimes you really just don’t like certain things and that’s ok!). Olivia, the Executive Director does her best to make sure she gets to know every client and sees that the program is meeting their needs. TCED has a step down to PHP which you can commute from home or live at the house which helped me transition home much more smoothly. I would say the staff are trauma informed and really do their best to work with clients where they are at. I am so grateful for the grace that they gave me as I adjusted to the program. There is a significant amount of down time between meals and groups for meal processing. Be prepared to sit with your feelings and learn new coping skills to deal with uncomfortable emotions. I found groups mostly helpful. Sometimes it felt like it was very art heavy or too intense therapeutically. I think a more planned out schedule would help reduce this imbalance, but overall I found the groups super helpful. The property is beautiful and if you love nature like I do, having that view during meal times and group is so therapeutic. Another benefit is the recovery specialists (RCS) who are your go to person during the day and evening or night. They are there to help you work thru your stuff. You may not love them all, but they are diverse and I bet you will find someone you really click with. I know I found several! I also have experience working in the field of eating disorder treatment, so I also say this as a professional, TCED is a great resource for the Midwest area, and I would recommend it to anyone struggling with any form of an eating disorder.
Hi Kelley! Thank you for sharing this feedback about Toledo Center. We are honored to be a part of your recovery journey and are so glad you had such a great experience with our staff and programming. We are proud of the hard work you have shown during this process and wish you the best.
Fantastic experience: My testimony Jesus loves you, follow Him and he will show you the way. He is the way the truth and the life! TCED was a part of my recovery journey and I am thankful for them
Hi Madison! Thank you for sharing this feedback about Toledo Center. We are honored to be a part of your recovery journey and are so glad you had such a great experience with our staff and programming. We are proud of the hard work you have shown during this process and wish you the best.
Positive experience: I have been a patient here twice the first time was November 2022 - February 2023 and again from December 2023 - March 2024. The first time I came I had some issues, my biggest of which was with a staff member that no longer works there. I graduated again yesterday and this past time was much better. My therapist, Malorie, was a much better fit than my previous therapist there, and I feel very lucky to have had her. Both dietitians there are AMAZING and are extremely educated. I have had both as part of my treatment team, and I cannot speak highly enough for both of them. By no means is TCED perfect, as no treatment center is. However, the staff there does care and they have made many improvements since the last time I was there.
Hi Corryn! Thank you for sharing this kind and genuine feedback. Each member of our team strives to provide compassionate and nurturing care for our clients. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment.
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this treatment center. All the staff was supportive and understanding. They helped reach all the clients individual needs. Everyone that I met there was also very understanding and definitely contributed to my recovery. The food there was always very preferred since it was made in house. The cooks were always willing to adjust meals for certain preferences. Many of the clients that have been to treatment before say that this is the best place they have been and that all the staff actually cares. Overall, this program really made me feel like I wasn't all alone and normalized what proper rest and nutrition should be. I am continuing my recovery journey at home at the end of this week!
Hi Kiann! It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and your experience with Toledo Center. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment. We wish you the best and we will always be here for you!
Negative experience: I stayed at the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders for 2.5 months. I have multiple food allergies, and there were multiple occasions when I received food I was allergic to. This resulted in me being sent to the hospital for a severe allergic reaction, and that was only one of SEVERAL. Most of the staff was caring. However, there were so many instances where certain staff members needed to be put in line, as they were causing distress to patients, and this was not addressed by leadership. If any conflict amongst patients ever arose, the staff preached that we should "talk to the person privately and resolve the issue." Yet, whenever a patient said/did something that a staff member did not approve of, instead of reasonably resolving the issue they just handed you a behavioral contract to sign, and if you got three they would go so far as to extending your discharge date as punishment. I was also told (by the director) that if I didn't "click" with my therapist, I could always change therapists. By my second week, I requested to switch, and they completely ignored me. Not only did it make me feel helpless, but it worsened my experience both with therapy and at this establishment. They also cut call time (which was only 30 minutes a day) down to only 5 minutes if the time I was calling was inconvenient for the staff member. As a patient who lived out-of-state, this was incredibly distressing. It is already difficult to be cut off from friends and family for months at a time. They also never let me go on an outing, even when I requested one with my therapist, and they hardly let us go outside despite telling us we'd be able to do so. This also made my discharge incredibly stressful because I hadn't been in public for months. Their packing list is completely outdated, and their schedules are also outdated, and things are constantly changing. One more thing, when I was discharged I was supposed to be transferred to an outpatient program, and this never ended up happening. This place didn't follow up with me or my family to make sure I had been able to successfully transition into a lower program. Because of this, I relapsed for the entire year following my stay, essentially undoing any progress I had made during my stay. The lack of communication and planning both on their part and in general in this field of medical attention needs some desperate attention. These are only SOME of the reasons why I would say, "Please CAREFULLY consider every aspect of admitting someone or yourself to this place before doing so."
Hi Evelyn. While every person’s treatment journey is different, Toledo Center is a leading provider of eating disorder treatment with clinical and nutritional teams dedicated to providing the highest caliber of evidence-based treatment through care and compassion, which includes ensuring that individual treatment components like allergies, etc are incorporated into our food models. Fantastic experience: It really felt like the team was committed to my recovery and cared about me as a person and not just an eating disorder.
Thank you for sharing this feedback about Toledo Center's staff. We are honored to be a part of your recovery journey and are so glad you had such a good experience with our staff.
Fantastic experience: I was a residential and PHP patient at the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders for three months. They provided me with support, guidance, and tools to aid in my recovery. The Toledo Center challenges your eating disorder in a safe environment, providing a wide variety of meals and snacks to expose yourself to all kinds of foods (safe & fear foods). I learned coping skills and got to the root of my where my eating disorder stemmed from to find recovery. I am leaving with confidence in continuing recovery at home.
Hi Heather! It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and your experience with Toledo Center. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment. We wish you the best and we will always be here for you!

Hi Kallie! We appreciate your positive comments about our staff and programming at Toledo Center. Your kind words will be helpful to others who are seeking treatment.
Fantastic experience: The staff at Toledo Center for ED are some of the most compassionate and efficient employees I have met in my years of working in the behavioral health field. Upon entering their program you are greeted with a warm welcome and you can tell they care for a person's recovery. Finding a gem like Toledo Ed is far and few between, but we are grateful for their program in our Ohio region.

Fantastic experience: Finding a facility that can treat not only eating disorders, but underlying mental health conditions is so difficult, nearly impossible. The Toledo Center for ED is by far the most compassionate and effective program you will find. Amazing staff, beautiful facility.
Hi Alex! It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and programming at Toledo Center. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment.
Fantastic experience: I was an adult patient at TCED and I can say that this was the best recovery treatment center experience I've ever had! The staff here really care about our recovery and it shows. My therapist Jamie and dietician Emily were really helpful and I am forever grateful to them! I was hesitant when I first arrived because this was the 3rd place I've been to, but I can tell this one has positively impacted me the most! While I don't plan on visiting when I leave, I will miss them all so much!

Negative experience: worst experience in my life. i hope this place gets what it deserves. shut down

Fantastic experience: After being in multiple treatment centers in the past, I was wary of just another treatment center. Toledo Center promised me that they would not let me leave until I was ready. After a 3 month stay, they lived up to their word. Never once have I had someone fight for me like this center did. I was discouraged and beaten down when I got there. My therapist, Jamie, worked through the most difficult times in my life. There were critical moments in my stay where Jamie and the team loved on me, fought for me when I couldn’t, and equipped me to be where I am today. The RCs walked with me through every moment proving to me that I am never alone. You are not just another patient. You are not just a number. They finally helped me believe that I am worthy of care and love. I can’t thank the Toledo Center enough.
Hi Sherri! It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and your experience with Toledo Center. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment. We wish you the best and we will always be here for you!
Fantastic experience: I can not say enough good things about the Toledo Center. This was my first time in treatment and from the minute I walked in they were very organized and had a treatment plan for me. It made me feel at ease. I felt that I could take a deep breath because someone else was taking on my worries. I spent 3 months working with my counselor Jamie ( who is amazing! She would do anything for her patients) and my dietician, Emily who worked with me on exposure therapy. This place saved my life. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made but the best thing I could have done. If you are struggling the Toledo Center is a great and supportive place to help you recover.
Hi Caitlin! Thank you for sharing this feedback about Toledo Center. We are honored to be a part of your recovery journey and are so glad you had such a great experience with our staff and programming. We are proud of the hard work you have shown during this process and wish you the best.
Negative experience: They are only about Profit here don’t come here!

Negative experience: I have no idea how this place is still up and running. It was a terrible experience that I had just this past summer in 2023. Firstly, you see your therapist ONCE a week. In RESIDENTIAL. That is the same as an outpatient level of care. Secondly, I was forgotten/left unsupervised on three separate occasions. That is a huge safety issue! I was on SI watch on all of these separate occasions! One of those times was on an outing, and when I got out of the bathroom, the entire group was gone and barely even visible. The other two were when they left me behind while going somewhere outside. Finally, DO NOT go here if you aren’t cisgender. The staff will consistently misgender you, I was here for a month and they still continued to do so at the end of my stay, even after advocating for myself the entire time. I just now also heard about many others currently in there still being consistently misgendered from a patient who was there last week, and I know of another patient there before me who was misgendered as well. I don’t care how old you are, you work in mental health, you should be able to respect people’s pronouns. It’s been a constant issue. Genuinely not a good place to go for recovery do not go here.

Fantastic experience: The care team truly care about you regardless or your diagnoses. They work with you and provide excellent care. The therapists are the best any of us had ever had and I’m leaving confident I can live a healthy life. Thank you TCED team ❤️
Hi Savana. Thank you for sharing this feedback about Toledo Center. We are honored to be a part of your recovery journey and are so glad you had such a great experience with our staff and programming. We are proud of the hard work you have shown during this process and wish you the best.
Fantastic experience: If you or a loved one are suffering from ED, this is the place to be. Ignore the bad reviews, from my own/daughter's experience, they sound ridiculous, but, you can't please them all. As a parent, I can't thank this place enough for bringing my little girl back to me. Fighting ED is a battle, it's not easy, but so worth it in the end. It's tempting to call it quits in the beginning because it's hard, the tears are hard, fighting is hard, not having your child home is hard, staying strong for your child is hard. "It is only in our darkest hours that we may discover the true strength of the brilliant light within ourselves that can never, ever, be dimmed" My daughter's light is shining brighter than ever and I will be forever grateful for her journey she endured here. TRUST THE PROCESS, I can't say this enough. Even when you question them, TCED knows what they are doing and they will answer, explain all of your questions and it will make sense. Again, thank you TCED, forever grateful :)
Hi Nicole. Thank you for sharing this kind and genuine feedback. We are honored to be a part of your daughter’s recovery journey and are glad she had such a great experience with our staff and programming at Toledo Center. Each member of our team strives to provide compassionate and nurturing care for our clients. We are so proud of the work your family has put in during this process and wish you guys the very best!
Fantastic experience: I came in very frustrated and resistant to treatment. The team I had worked so well with me and this was an incredibly eye-opening experience. My therapist was so kind and insightful, my dietician taught me SO much, the nursing staff was kind and some of the RCS were just the freaking best people. Not to mention the chef makes amazing food and made me laugh a lot; she really made fear foods less scary for me. I always felt seen here and I’m very thankful for the help I received.
Hi Madison. It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and your experience with Toledo Center. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment. We wish you the best and we will always be here for you!
Fantastic experience: I cannot thank the Toledo Center enough for the care I received. They cared for me as a whole person and more. Medically, physically, mentally, emotionally, I was treated with such respect through one of the hardest periods of my life. I was never just another patient here as the staff truly cares about each person here and it shows every day. They are all individually great at what they do and form a great collective group to treat various eating disorders. I would recommend this for anyone seeking treatment, looking for understanding, and/or searching for a wholistic approach to reclaiming their life. Through educational and insightful groups, individual therapy, a great kitchen staff and meals, cooking, knowledgeable dietitians, fun outings, and other modalities, I began my recovery journey and am so glad they welcomed me with open arms. Living arrangements are great, nursing staff is kind and caring, I could go on and on. Thank you Toledo Center!
Hi Andrea. Thank you for sharing this kind and genuine feedback. Each member of our team strives to provide compassionate and nurturing care for our clients. We are so proud of the work you have put in during this process and wish you the very best!
Fantastic experience: Forever grateful to the Toledo Center for ED for having admitted our daughter into the program. We are extremely blessed with all the staff, from the first call she made to seek their help up until now where she has made a lot of progress thanks to the caring and professional therapist and nutritionist, RCs, nurses, the culinary team and all who provide individualized attention 24/7. Their holistic approach is what makes it work, their weekly staff meeting discussing every patient, the constant updates and guidance from the nutritionist, the expert individual and group therapy sessions to provide them useful coping skills, the family sessions to answer all of our questions, the TCED Family Group weekly Zoom calls led by someone that is now recovered and provides expert advice, all on that in support to our daughter and our family. We know this is a journey, we know recovery is not perfect and ups&downs are part of it, we know it is very hard for those getting treatment and for their families, but having the care team walking along side us makes it less difficult one day at a time. Leaving your loved one hours away from home, with people that at first you don’t know and hoping that the treatment would work is scary, but I would 100% recommend this place if you are looking for a center that really cares about the individualized recovery journey of their patients, treating them with compassion and at the same time showing that accountability is a big part of their everyday success towards full recovery of their minds, their bodies and their souls. We can’t THANK YOU enough, and we continue to trust you with our daughter’s recovery journey.

Fantastic experience: TCED was the exact healthcare I needed after struggling with ED for over 20 years when outpatient care was not providing me with what I’d call a stable and sustainable recovery. I went in really motivated to fight the ED and that attitude was useful in getting the most out of the programming as there was lots to learn and take in. The admissions process over the phone with Cheney was the best customer service experience, so, from the get go it was an overall pleasant experience.
Hi Ariana. It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and your experience with Toledo Center during your time here. Hi Alli. Thank you for sharing this feedback about Toledo Center. We are honored to be a part of your recovery journey and are so glad you had such a great experience with our staff and programming. We are proud of the hard work you have shown during this process and wish you the best.
Positive experience: I had a good experience here at Toledo Center for Eating Disorders. I was someone who was a tad skeptical of any type of treatment for my eating disorder, I was in denial of having a problem at all. When I got here the staff was so welcoming and catered to my needs. The executive director, Olivia, even got me my favorite juice to make me feel more comfortable. All the staff here is amazing and well trained on how to help those with eating disorders. They helped me reclaim my life and come out of my shell, my personality completely came back. Leaving here I feel satisfied and ready to continue my recovery journey outside of the center. The people I’ve met here were beyond incredible, staff and clientele. If you’re looking for treatment, coming here wouldn’t be a mistake.
Hi Blu. Thank you for sharing this kind and genuine feedback. Negative experience: was here months ago for around 2 weeks in adult residential as a 19 year old. all was well, the staff were pretty much all great. all kind and caring and pretty helpful. however i was having safety issues so i was sent to inpatient care at Flower hospital twice. unfortunately inpatient was highly traumatic and i was treated very poorly there. after i spent time in inpatient for the second time, Toledo Center for eating disorders told me they didn’t want me back until my safety issues were pretty much under control. i was devastated considering i was inpatient in a different hospital before i went to Toledo Center and they told me they would take me in even though i was struggling heavily with self harm. they made it clear that they understand i was having safety issues but that they can still help and treat me at their center anyways. i don’t recommend going to the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders if you are struggling with self harm/suicidal behaviors. or else when you start to struggle with these behaviors they will call 911 to take you to inpatient treatment. it’s been at least 6 months later and i’m currently in a big ed relapse, but i know i cannot come to this center because i still struggle with self harm. even though they say they will accept individuals who struggle with an ed and sh, don’t trust this. it’s a shame because this center is actually quite great. i had great experiences while i was there, but all of that is drowned by the trauma i experienced in inpatient at Flower that could of been prevented if they didn’t accept me in the first place. i’m happy they gave me a chance, but they assured me i could come when really they weren’t in the position where they could help me. :(((
The staff at Toledo Center care deeply about everyone that comes into treatment with us and we want them to succeed in their recovery journeys. We’re so happy that you enjoyed your time here and, while we always want to help everyone take the next step towards recovery, we also recognize that sometimes another location could be better prepared to help them than us if clinically determined. Self-harm is one of those areas where we can help those who are experiencing symptoms up to a certain level of severity. If you would like to speak with Olivia Dunbar, our Executive Director, about your review, you can contact her at 866-862-8386, extension 721.
Fantastic experience: I would definitely recommend the Toledo Center to a friend or family member. I received excellent care from all of the disciplines, including therapists, dietician staff, and medical/nursing staff. The care is given in a very supportive environment. The other extremely important part of treatment is the close knit relationships you form with other clients who understand you.
Hi Holly. It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and your experience with Toledo Center during your time here. Fantastic experience: My name is really Katrina Green this email is not updated to my married name. This center really saved my life, I went in on verge of dieing. The staff was so warm and caring, always wanting to know what could help with. It was weird having most of independent taken away. I understand why. I learned so much through sessions, the girls I was with were young but made huge impact on my life. I have been back to work over a month and seems to be going well. Words are so hard to express how thankful I am for this place, most all the staff were amazing, few that could use more training not treat Adults like children.

Negative experience: I went here twice two years ago. Let me first start out by saying only one of the 15 women I knew have found any recovery if even a fraction of it. Sadly there are others ill see in God's time. This place is not what the pictures show. But when I went we had to scrape every drop and crumb out of our bowls plates ect. I watch and went through getting physically sick from the amount of food you are made to to stuff into yourself..painful, sad, and horrific. They counted 10 to 13 full sized reeses cups, or 12 to to 16 chicken nuggets as a snack! Not to mention the entirely large sized meals that any family friend or stranger would think is large three times a day followed by the meal sized snack three times. I realize I have an eating disorder but watching children and adults long in the program and new comers puke curl up in gastric distress was mortifying. I myself got sick on occasions and then was force fed practically a whole meal plus milkshakes added bags of candy to make up calories on top of the already hard to stuff meal. If you can't eat it all you are sitting at that table until you do. The treatment from the counselors is great but the other staff get ready for condescending looks statements and overall treatment. I went three years ago have struggled evermore leaving there and now finally have the mental ability to seek help elsewhere from the PTSD this place gave me. Another sad keynote they fill you with high caloric food that has very little value because the are an eating disorder facility that runs on microwaves and toaster ovens . The meals they catered in was from a Joe shmo exercise shop down the street and was not even Gordon food service quality. Breakfast full sized bagel 8 oz juice 12 oz water 8 to 10 prunes full sized 8 oz yogurt cream cheese plus juice added any meal BOOST supplement and added syrups to that..two hours later you guessed it huge snack two hours after that lunch two full size burritos 3/4 -1or 1 cup rice 1/2 cup beans 1/4cup salsa 12oz water 1 cup salad 1 1.1/2 tbs dressing 12oz water 2 tbs guacamole and if you have supplement 1500+ all has to go down....two hours later another snack so cheesecake ice cream there are healthy very bulked options ... so 16 baby carrots 2 tbs hummus 12 oz water then boom dinner brownberry bread 2 slices 4 pieces ham 2 tbs mayo mustard and if you want lettuce tomatoe...whole can of soup 12 oz water bag of chips ect. Btw you have to drink all the water. Now how about group therapy? Dream on...they were so unorganized an usless unless painting rocks pictures or movies is your thing. I did more informative things in grade school because it all felt last minute thrown together (come on lets fill in the time nonsense) If there is ever anything wrong then its the "shame one you, youre in the wrong" attitude and guilt tripping is what you will be dealt with. They tell you diet food is wrong yet the DAM staff eats organic healthy or reduced microwave meals infront of you while making you eat ungodly ammounts of sugar candy cheescake icecream shakes ect. You cant have everything that the staff eats right with you at your meals or in passing. I just loved im having to eat these enormous meals and then the very lady (Megan..Jordan..RC's) are eating a little sadwich or microwave reduced calories ANNIES meal. Dont think you are getting one on one very often and most of mine were right before lunch and hurried so that i cld get to lunch cutting my so called hour into 45 min if tht. I cld go on and on. I am seeking help else where I needed to go sooner but have been so terrified I cldnt. You will never flush your own toilets you will never get to feel humanity there. What in the hell is an EATING DISORDER facility that doesn't even have a kitchen. Their kitchen is microwaves frozen, canned everything and a few rickety toaster ovens. Smh there is not a drop of of healthy eating, grocery shopping or anything. Oh and if you are vegetarian they bulk the size of your food up. I do not recommend. The one thing they can do is weight restore you.
Hi Mistey. A lot of things have changed over the past 2 years so the photos and videos you see on our website are what Toledo Center looks like today! Our nutritional model has been revamped (food is cooked in house by our chef in our in-house kitchen), our programming has been updated, and we have a new team of clinicians and leaders who are all committed to providing the very best evidence-based programming through care and compassion. Our facility is also being remodeled so Toledo Center today is very different than what you’ve described. Feel free to give our Executive Director, Olivia Dunbar, a call if you’d like to learn more about who Toledo Center is today at 866-862-8386, extension 721.
Fantastic experience: I spent 8 weeks here in the PHP program and it helped me greatly. The therapists, dietitians, and all staff members were incredibly helpful to all and very involved in the community. Everyone was cared for and listened to. The school teacher was incredibly helpful and made sure all clients got what they needed. Clients input in their treatment was very important and as you progressed in treatment you got more freedom. We were allowed to choose our snack and even meal swap foods (if we weren't refusing). As we moved forward in our treatment, some were allowed to go on outings, go home on the weekends, and flush our own toilets/pull our own snacks from the kitchen. The food here was well prepared and the cooks were all very friendly. RC's sat and ate with us and we were given 1 hour at meals and 30 minutes at snack. None of us ever felt rushed and the table was always a light and safe environment. Groups are beautifully led and organized by therapists or RC's. We had two 1-1 1/2 hour groups 5 days a week as well. They were very helpful and beneficial. The clients here were very kind and understanding. I made some amazing relationships here that I will forever keep. RC's are very understanding and helpful and monitor us 24/7. They keep things professional but also often laugh and joke with us. Overall, most RC's form good relationships will all clients by the time they leave. A beautiful creek borders this place and we are often allowed to sit by it in our spare times. The inside is very homey and welcoming. It can be a bit messy at times, but in the best way! People live here so it makes sense! The maintenance guy (very friendly) makes sure everything is clean and working well. Overall, living spaces, the group room, the class room, and therapists offices are all very cute and organized. Overall my experience here was amazing. All staff was welcoming as well as clients. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone struggling, it helped me so much. I honestly can't thank you guys enough for the impact you've had on my life.
Hi Laylah. It is great to hear such delightful comments about our staff and your experience with Toledo Center during your time here. We are so thankful for your generous words and the impact they will have on others looking to seek treatment. We are proud of the work you have put in during this process, and if you need anything, we are always here for you!
Negative experience: Severely understaffed when I went back in Dec. I had to correct my meds due to them messing them up multiple times. Groups were not often ran by therapists. PHP was set up very poorly. My RC’s and therapist and dietitian who no longer work there were amazing nonetheless. I hope things have changed since I last was there.
Negative experience: I've been following this facility since I was a patient, here, the entire summer after it was acquired by Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare, a portfolio company for Nautic, a global investment firm. Feb 2022 I encouraged the reviewer to look up the licensure of this clinic's staff. Now, you cannot: 1 mo. later, the 2 most inexperienced employees are no longer on their website. Ask, when you call, what year your (or child's) therapist graduated, what yr they got their license, & how many yrs they've treated EDs. Which are life-and-death matters. Which have gotten SO BAD that you're looking up a higher level of care. A huge expenditure of time, energy & finances, on top of being pulled out of work or school - & then - having to transition BACK to work or school - with no help - because this place doesn't have any follow-up, aftercare, or outpatient care, or meal support, or IOP. (Companies don't make as much money off of that.) So I hope it's OK with you your primary therapist here has only treated eating disorders for a year or two... The executive director of Toledo Center has no degree, certificate or license in mental health. Or graduate degree in anything, just a bachelors. So one might assume that if she at least had experience working in an ED facility it would be in her bio but it mentions none. Though she received her degree in 2010, the clinical director's bio doesn't mention any experience treating ED's either, so I would assume none. Their "Milieu Supervisor" (?!!??!?) has only a bachelor degree and no license to practice anything in the state of OH. The newest therapist at TCED (no longer visible) had just graduated with her masters last Aug('21) so obviously no experience at all, much less treating a deadly illness. The only other therapist (TCED has only 2):got her masters in '16:TCED is her 1st job treating EDs as a therapist:& she's only been doing that since she hired in, here, less than 2 yrs ago. This is all public knowledge you can look up online with little effort. Until opioid overdoses recently topped it, eating disorders were The #1 most FATAL and mental health issue - treating these complex disorders requires a great deal of skill/experience. And: ED populations are also statistically higher re: trauma, which requires The Highest skill/experience to treat. I have a list of about 2 dozen therapists, nurses, & dieticians who've left this facility since I was that patient in 2019 - the only employees with any viable (5+ yrs) experience either work in the office or are shared with Odyssey's other facilities. This company did not care they shoved 6 of us adults in to two former offices with no closets and one shower in a construction area that we had to share. We had two patients too sick for this clinic's resources, that us patients had to help care for, that they kept exactly until their 30 days insurance ran out before they went to a higher level of care. A different pair of fellow patients went almost directly into locked psych units after spending here at this clinic with me. They brought adolescents into the adult unit & adults into the adolescent unit. My medical records were falsified, and I have witnesses. They falsely advertised aftercare, which they refused to provide us, until October of 2019, the year I was PHP, and I also documented that. They falsified the reviews on Google, changing the word "River" in "River Centre" to Toledo (scroll down; see for yourself; those reviews often contain the acronym RCC) For 2+ yrs this company's CEO & their corp office refuse to respond to my calls or emails. People that didn't want to help other people wouldn't apply to work here so it is inevitable that there are going to be caring staff members & a couple of patients who might accidentally have a good experience here but it's not because of this company or all the inexperienced rookies they have hired to staff the place. If this, or Odyssey's other facilities are the only place your insurance covers, please share this review with your insurance co
Thank you for sharing your feedback and thoughts. Please contact our CEO, Amos Taylor, at 765-641-0022, extension 102 to discuss this further.
Positive experience: As an adult patient, who recently completed the residential level of care with TCED, I would personally recommend this place if someone I knew were to be struggling like me. The workers all genuinely care about you, especially the dieticians , RCS and therapists. The only problems going on right now is the changes in employment. They are currently severely understaffed and while they try, it does put a setback in our recovery. I am thankful for my experience at TCED and again I would recommend this place.
Hi Evelyn, Thank you for your honest and positive review. We thank you for allowing us to be a part of your recovery journey and are so proud of the progress you made. We wish you continued success and happiness as you move forward in your journey!
Positive experience: A lot of room for improvement but overall I’m grateful for this place. I was in the adolescent residential program for 10 weeks. Higher up staff do not really care about you as a person and more so care about makingmoney off of you and see you as just another number. Some of the RC’s (recovery care specialists) are great though and deserve more credit for how hardworking and caring they are. Lilly, Olive, Geneva (G), Izzy (Isadore), Bri, Micaela, and Troy are absolutely amazing and make you feel so comfortable and safe. Michelle (the dietitian) is so sweet and so helpful gosh I loved her. I give her a lot of credit for getting me to where I am today. Kenya (the therapist) was not my personal therapist but basically acted like one and is incredible. The chef, Elena, makes amazing food and is super funny. Olga and Hollee are great at cleaning up after us and keeping the unit and living spaces neat and tidy. Jason the maintenance dude is super helpful and can somehow fix anything. One of my biggest issues there was the inconsistencies with rules. Sometimes the RC’s don’t follow certain rules or make up nonexistent ones and it causes a lot of stress because you get yelled at for something you thought was fine because other people allowed it. Overall, I’m grateful for the program (minus a few people…) for giving me my life back. PS Lilly if you see this sorry about the barbie you know what and the coffee :)
Hi Eva. We’re blessed to have such caring and compassionate teammates here who are so dedicated to each person and their recovery. If you’d like to speak with our CEO, Amos Taylor, about your review, you can contact him at 765-641-0022, extension 606.
Negative experience: This place is understaffed dirty clients only get phones for an hour and staff brake hippa laws I don’t recommend I used to be a client here it’s not worth it the owners are horrible and insensitive. Do not go waste of money
Negative experience: My personal therapist I worked with Kenya Keller, My dietitian Michelle, and my plus one dietitian Alex saved my life. The cook she goes by a “thug” was hilarious and kept the place lively I love you Alina. Head rc Brianna was wonderful. Many staff were great but the group therapy was lacking content, and I struggled to participate due to the dis organized nature of TCED group therapy structure, and the constant disorganization at TCED overall.
Hi Nathan. We’re so glad you felt welcomed and cared for by our clinical team and staff. Emotions and outlook can vary depending on where you are in your recovery journey and our clinical team leverages evidence-based best practices to create tailored treatment paths for each individual. With clinical outcomes that outpace national benchmarks, we’re proud to have helped so many on their paths towards lasting recovery. We really value and appreciate feedback so if you’d like to speak with our CEO, Amos Taylor, about any of the details in your review, you can reach him directly at 765-641-0022, extension 102.
Positive experience: We had a good experience at TCED. I believe it was a place where my daughter was understood, could relate and be heard. It provided an environment free from the added stressors related to work and to the social and academic pressures of public school, allowing her to do all the hard work on her eating disorder. Period. And that was a lot, that was enough. The connections she made with various staff and peers were not only meaningful, but critical for her recovery to begin. The struggle was real, but she was weight restored and we are beyond grateful that TCED was a pivotal place in our daughter's journey toward recovery. We would like TCED to consider increasing the time or sessions for individual therapy or make that time available in a different format if necessary. We would also like to see more formal or directed education and resources provided for caregivers/families to maximize the likelihood of continuing in recovery and progress, even when the journey has curves and dips in the road. Thank you TCED for getting us on the road.
Hi Rhonda, we appreciate you sharing such validating comments about our staff and programming. Thank you for allowing us be a part of your daughter's recovery journey. We wish you and your family continued success and happiness as you continue to move forward!
Fantastic experience: I have nothing but great things to say about this place. My daughter’s experience was positive from admission to discharge. I was so nervous leaving her 8 hours away from home, but the staff here treated her as their own. I was kept informed on how she was doing and was able to participate in weekly family counseling with her and her counselor and also had sessions with her dietician. She had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic she was placed on and had to go to the ER Twice. Nurse Ashley was with her both times and kept me informed as to what was going on. As a mom, you feel helpless so far away but I knew she was safe and that was the most important thing. They worked with us financially which showed me they really cared about our child and not just money. Our daughter came home stronger and wiser because of her time there and the effort their staff makes for each person. They helped her work hard to overcome her fear foods, restore her weight and most importantly begin living! They oversaw her transition from RTC to PHP and now she is back home participating in IOP sessions. Highly recommend their program! Thank you to all of the staff for helping our daughter and treating her as whole person and not just another number.
Thank you for sharing your positive and genuine feedback. We are honored to be a part of your daughter’s journey and are glad you both had such a great experience with our team. Each member of our staff strives to provide compassionate and nurturing care that empowers our clients to sustain long-term recovery. We wish you and your family the very best!
Negative experience: If I could give this place a 0 star rating I would! I was originally supposed to be admitted to Selah House in Indiana... Brianne in admissions had my insurance info for over 2 weeks and waited until the night before admission to tell me my insurance was out of network and would have to go to Toledo Center. Brianne also knew about my two young children and assured me many times that the girls would be able to attend visitations with my husband. When I showed up at Toledo to be admitted I found out everything Brianne had told me was a lie. Only 2 visitors at a time and no visitors under 18 years of age. I had also double checked with her that I would get visitation the 1st weekend so my family could book a hotel since we live three hours away and she assured me that I would.... turns out that was a lie too! This place is a dump, their communication is horrible, admission process took over a week to get straightened out, and they lie to get you there. Stay clear of this place and Brianne in admissions!
Hi Brittney. Our admissions team does everything possible to ensure there is complete clarity and transparency throughout the admissions process. Negative experience: If you are looking to send your child here, please look somewhere else. I am an adolescent that stayed at the Toledo Center for about three months. This place is extremely unorganized, and there is little to no structure as portrayed on the website. Group therapy is not helpful, it consists of mostly games, movies, talent shows, painting rocks, etc. Sure, it helped me weight restore but the mental aspect was not focused on AT ALL. Another issue with this place is the 100% completion rule. I understand why this exists, but almost everyday during my stay I had to stuff myself to the point of being sick. I felt nauseous and uncomfortable way too often. If you did not finish a massive meal, it was marked as a refusal. I remember one night I felt so nauseous that I could not eat anymore. It was marked as a refusal and I could not sleep a minute that night because I was terrified of the "refusal" affecting my discharge date. The only thing keeping me from relapsing is the thought of being sent back to this awful place. Please, please read the reviews. Every single negative review that I read prior to my stay was 100% accurate. If you want your child to heal in a welcoming, kind, helpful environment, this is NOT the place. They would preach "everything in moderation" but refuse to give us ANY of the "healthy" foods. The diet here consists of pure sugar. The snacks are all processed, unhealthy junk. I understand that these food have to be reintroduced but I am positive there is another way of doing it. Having these foods 5 times a day is NOT IT. When I came home I did not feel like eating candy/dessert ever again because I was just sick of it. Also, their website advertises for at least one hour of individual therapy a week. I was here for more than 11 weeks and I got 4-5 hours AT MOST. There were two separate occasions where I did not see my therapist for 2 consecutive weeks. My therapist (Meggan) would often guilt trip me. She would say things like "Do you know how much stress you have put your family through?" and "Imagine how triggered your peers would be if they knew that you were engaging in behaviors". Like.. sorry?? I am trying my hardest to recover and I am not exactly thinking of my peers and family when I am struggling so badly. Yet, nobody in this facility seemed to know how to help when we were struggling. We were basically left to support our peers on our own even when we were struggling, so I could not focus on myself and my recovery when I had to worry about helping everybody else because the staff did not know how. Another thing- patients were treated completely differently by staff. There was definitely favoritism within the staff and there were multiple occasions where we would be told to follow a certain rule, but for some reason some people were exceptions. They could get away with it easily and consistently. Sure, if your child is a favorite at this center, they might get good treatment. But the majority of us did not. Lastly, they do not prepare you for discharge one bit. I was sent home with an insufficient meal plan that the dietician skimmed over and approved. I lost a good amount of weight the first 3 days of being home, and we had to hire a whole new dietitian at home to make sure I would not lose more. For the amount of time and money this place takes, it does not fulfill the expectations at all. Not even close.
The path to recovery should take a whole person approach including their mental, physical, social, vocational, and nutritional needs, which includes becoming comfortable with all types of foods. The journey towards recovery is difficult and requires constant pursuit, but everyone’s recovery journey is different because everyone is unique and that’s OK. Toledo Center is proud to have helped so many through a foundation of evidence-based clinical treatment that’s combined with care and compassion. Our CEO, Amos Taylor, is available and can be contacted at 765-641-0022, extension 102.
Negative experience: This is a terrible treatment facility. Back in 2012 they had you calculate your calories and fat grams. All food was frozen, packaged, and processed. You measured everything out including ketchup. I was there recently for literally two days and not much has changed. Basically all food is still processed and packaged. Most snacks are things like pudding, snack cakes, and other sweets. Barely anything is cooked or homemade. There is no option for supplementing if you don’t complete, which is unheard of. You are supposed to sit at the table for hours until you complete everything. It’s awful. You get ONE hour of therapy a week and do not regularly see a certified dietician. The groups have no substance and there is way too much downtime is such a cramped space. If you have any medical complications, I HIGHLY recommend you do not go here. The only treatment center I recommend and stand by is Alsana.
Hi Addyson. We hope you have had continued success on your path towards recovery and a lot has changed since you were here. We have completely rebuilt our nutrition program from the ground up with a brand-new kitchen that focused on our (much needed) shift from catered food to homemade food. In fact, the first thing we did was bake cupcakes to celebrate the transformation! You also misrepresented our clinical program, which is founded on evidence-based therapies and a caring, compassionate staff committed to providing the highest level of clinical care for each individual. We’re proud to have helped so many and if you’d like to speak to our CEO, Amos Taylor, about your review, you can contact him at 765-641-0022, extension 102.
Fantastic experience: The staff at the Toledo Center stayed in contact with myself and other members of my client's treatment team throughout the whole process which was so helpful. My client made a significant amount of progress while in treatment at the Toledo Center and found the staff and program to be very helpful.
We greatly appreciate your kind words. Each member of our team is dedicated to working with our clinical partners to help those who are suffering find quality care. Thank you for your valued partnership!
Fantastic experience: What are some areas to consider if Toledo Center would be a good fit? You might want good communication from staff. You might want a compassionate team to show they care. You might want a competent treatment team to ensure safety of yourself or your loved one. You might want a creative team to meet you or a loved where you/they are at. No treatment center will be perfect so you might want a treatment center that is fully committed to problem solving to ensure any issues are resolved. All these and more are areas Toledo Center delivered to help my family and did it at a high level. I am very impressed with Toledo Center. Every staff person my family had contact with was helpful and resourceful. Our child shared example after example where the staff helped in specific areas. Most of all, when I went to pick up my child, a sparkle that had been gone for years has returned. A solid foundation has been built with the help of Toledo Center and the future is bright. If you or a family member is considering Toledo Center, I hope this review helps you make a decision to move forward-I highly recommend Toledo Center for Eating Disorders.
Eric, we cannot thank you enough for allowing us to be a part of your child's recovery journey! We are so appreciative of the impact your words have on those struggling to decide on whether to get additional help. Your experience will surely help those individuals take the next step. We wish your family continued success and happiness!
Fantastic experience: Meggan and her staff were beyond incredible. In a relatively short period time we saw an absolute transformation in our child. It was like a dark cloud was lifted. ED is a scary disease and we still have a long way to go but for the first time in a long time, our family has hope for a brighter future for our child. Dropping your child off in treatment can be a terrifying experience. The staff put us all at ease immediately upon arrival and continued to tow the line with constant communication. We were contacted by a member of the staff with updates about every three days. Each staff member was patient and answered all of our questions with professionalism and a breadth and depth of knowledge that surprised us each time. My husband and I happen to work in this industry so we walked into this process with a discerning eye. We came away from this experience wanting to shout from the rooftops about just how great this place is. Every employee our child interacted with, was in it with their whole heart. Great treatment has everything to do with the staff and who leads the staff. This group of professionals were beyond amazing. We can't say enough about this place. Thank you Toledo Center, for giving our son a fighting chance at a better life.
Hi Rachel, Thank you for your positive feedback. We know how difficult it can be to decide to seek treatment for your child, and we are honored that you chose Toledo Center. Each member of our team values our clients and strives to provide not only the highest quality care but also provide hope and healing during their recovery. We wish the best for you and your family.
Fantastic experience: The intake with Taylor was so good, I thought this place was "to good to be true" (especially after a disaster with a metro-Chicago clinic). Turns out, in 8 weeks, they saved my daughters life! So, not all clinics are the same. Toledo is small, has a professional chef on-site, a dietician who connects and lovingly challenges the ED Monster. The executive director has been there for 20 years and knows her stuff - she's clearly in it for the patients. If the work is put in with sincere self-motivation, 100% parental guidance and support, and post residential care - you will see the light!
Thank you so much for sharing such positive feedback with us, Michael. At Toledo Center, the lives and wellbeing of our clients are our top priority. We wish your daughter continued success on her recovery journey and best wishes to your family.
Negative experience: I admitted to the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders in February 2020 and then again in July. Although the Toledo Center does an excellent job with weight restoration there were a few fundamental flaws that I encountered during my treatment. To start things off the Toledo Center advertises for one hour of individual therapy per week. There was one week where I did not have any individual therapy at all, and there were also very few occasions in which I received a full hour of individual therapy. Secondly they advertise for 24/7 Nursing. Nursing was significantly understaffed, there was a night when I was experiencing chest pain, needed an EKG and there was no night nurse. That left the Recovery care specialist on call to decide whether or not to call 911 which they are not qualified to do. There were so few nights with nurses that the recovery care specialists were required to pass meds (which is illegal). There were also many incidents in which incorrect meds/wrong doses were passed to patients. To my knowledge there is no policy for self harm at the Toledo center,. There would be days were I engaged in self harm, and sent back over to the php house even though I was still experiencing urges. Also, I was told upon my second admission that staff was aware I was not ready to discharge but sent home anyway. The transition from residential/PHP to home is nearly non-existent. Upon discharge therapists advertise for a one week follow up and a one month follow up. I did not hear from my therapist until I reached out and it had been about a month with no call. Also my second discharge my therapist did not ensure that I had a dietician set up. Lastly they advertise for individualized treatment, however mostly everything was geared towards anorexia recovery. This applied to me, however there were many other patients who did not have this diagnosis. There is also very little discussion around binge eating disorder. To sum up this long winded review, there were a lot of staff members who genuinely cared. However there were also a lot of people who only cared about admitting and discharging as many people as they could as quick as possible. They did not take into account whether or not individuals were ready for discharge. I would not recommend the Toledo Center as of right now.
Hi Camille. Toledo Center upholds the highest clinical standards in the care of every client and cares deeply about their success. Fantastic experience: I’ve stayed here twice, once in 2017 when it was River Center Clinic and once in 2019 after it became the Toledo Center; and I would go back if I needed inpatient again. The therapists- Meghan, Sam, Bree, Trish- are all experienced and empathetic. The facility is in a cute area. The backyard looks like you’re in a metro park; I spent a lot of time sitting next to the creek journaling and doing yoga. If there was anything I think they could do better, it’d be that when I was last there in late 2019, they were switching from a calorie-based to intuitive eating meal system; there were some growing pains, although I assume almost a year later they’ve got the kinks worked out. One other cool thing is for people who live nearby you get to do home visits and practice the skills you’ve been learning while you still have the structure of the program.
Negative experience: Toledo Center denied me after weeks of talking to me because I have celiac disease and they did not trust the catering company (who I hope is serv safe certified) to handle my food properly. I had made it clear from the start that I had this and I was told this would not be an issue. I was told days before I was supposed to be admitted which is a huge upheaval to a very difficult time in my life. I was also REPEATEDLY suggested "faith based programs" even though I repeatedly told them I am agnostic and have trauma from religion (though they claim to not be a faith based orgainization). They also suggested faith based clinics after they told me they could not take me and urged me to call them. They then called me back a few days later to see if I called the clinics and HUNG UP ON ME when I was calmly explaining my trauma around religion. I would highly suggest avoiding this place especially if you have left religion and are trying to work past the shame the faith instills in you. They seem more interested in taking advantage of people who are vulnerable to convert them to their Christian beliefs than actually helping those who are at a desperate point in their lives.
Fantastic experience: We are so appreciative of this place. We can honestly say that without them, we likely would have lost our child. She went from an unrecognizable shell of a person back to herself. It took time and hard work and difficult days but she was able to do it with the help of TCED. We got our daughter back. We are so appreciative of all staff, from admissions to clinical director to nurses to nutritionists to therapists to residential overnight staff. We literally could not have gone through this successfully without them.
Negative experience: I spent one week at the Toledo center for eating disorders. I would have to say that I was very disappointed. I read the reviews before I decided to go but I didn't realize that the good reviews came from the River Center not the Toledo Center. The Toledo Center is new management, they said they were transitioning. My visit there felt like an experiment. They sent me a schedule of what we would be doing from 11am-6pm it seemed like a structured program that I would benefit from but that wasn't the case. There is poor communication within the staff, alot of staff members didn't know what was going on. Group therapy rarely started on time. You are supposed to meet with a dietician once a week, I didn't meet with one until my 7th day there. This is a eating disorder facility dietitians are very important, patients should be seen regularly by a dietician. My therapist was very helpful. The amount of food given was too much. Some of the patients would feel sick after eating such a large amounts. We had alot of downtime. The adolescents and adults had group therapy together which caused complications in groups. I dont think that shouldve ever taken place. The maturity level of an adult and adolescent are on two different levels, they need their own groups so that the patients can get the therapy they need from group. Do your research, there has to be a better more organized facility out there so that you or your love one can get the help they need and deserve.
Negative experience: I absolutely hated my experience at TCED. Don’t get me wrong, I adored the other patients dearly, as well as a select few rc’s and therapists, but the way us residents were treated is inexcusable. I spent 2 months of my life getting far more food than normal shoved down my throat while also being shamed for “not eating fast enough”. There was no time limit given, therefore I should NOT have been belittled for taking more than 30 minutes. Especially considering I was being fed more than the average portion. I left the facility with a far more distorted mindset than i came in with. Not to mention, the twice a day group sessions were nothing but speeches about the same thing over and over again. It wasn’t helpful in the slightest, not one bit. The only thing that got me through my stay were my peers, and the once a week individualized sessions. If you want a more effective program, SEE YOUR PATIENTS MORE OFTEN.
Toledo Center for Eating Disorders has successfully helped many find freedom from their eating disorder. As a primary group-based program, we strongly emphasize group therapy because it provides an opportunity for clients to learn from interactions with others who share similar feelings and experiences battling their eating disorder. We understand that this support plays a key role in recovery by providing hope, reassurance, and understanding. Additionally, we have seen positive outcomes from our nutritional rehabilitation, which supports clients as they work to achieve and maintain healthy body weight, as well as to develop appropriate eating patterns that will lead to true control over the eating process. We respect and take critical feedback seriously and recommend these conversations to be conducted privately and ask that you directly contact Amos Taylor, CEO at 765-641-0022.
Negative experience: It is, indeed, very distressing to see that the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders has seemingly unethically and fraudulently attributed the testimonials currently posted on the website to be a reflection of their current services. This is outright false advertising! Anyone who is considering seeking services at the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders, should be aware of this. While I cannot comment on the quality of the treatment being offered now at the clinic, I feel it is important to express concern about the questionable professionalism of the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders retaining testimonials on their website that have nothing to do with their services in the past 11 months, since they took over the River Centre Clinic (Feb. 2019). To change the content - i.e. simply replacing the name River Centre Clinic with Toledo Center for Eating Disorders - is exceedingly disrespectful and insensitive of all those former patients who wrote the testimonials reflecting their very personal experiences at what was possibly the best clinic for eating disorders in North America, namely the River Centre Clinic. One can detect the fraudulence of the clinic's new ownership not only by the dates of the testimonials, but also simply by noting that the acronym RCC remains unchanged (accurately so!) in many of the testimonials, while at the same time there is reference the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders, which has replaced the name River Centre Clinic. Very confusing along with being inaccurate! For all who read this and have an eating disorder, or are seeking treatment for someone you care about, it is sincerely hoped you will receive / find effective treatment, at whatever clinic you choose, and that you will have the support, guidance and respectful patient care you so deserve. These were the exceptional key elements of the River Centre Clinic, but, at this time, have yet to be determined as existing at the Toledo Centre for Eating Disorders.
Negative experience: Just a heads up: the majority of the reviews here are for the River Centre Clinic, which was taken over in early 2019 by the people running the Toledo Center for Eating Disorders. Any of the reviews before that are for River Centre and NOT the Toledo Center. As a former patient of the River Centre Clinic, I believe that prospective patients should be aware of this, as things have changed a great deal since the change in management. I'm alarmed in particular by the fact that the Toledo Center has been using testimonials from River Centre patients on their website (including my own testimonial) and making it look as though they are for Toledo Center. I have never been there under this new management and to imply this is dishonest. Toledo Center attributed my testimonial to a male named "James" as well, which is completely inaccurate. I know that when I was seeking care for my eating disorder I relied heavily on reviews and information from others about prospective treatment centers and it's disconcerting to imagine that individuals are being deceived and made to think that they are reading about the current program. If Toledo Center has merit, they should display that on their own with honest testimonials rather than taking credit for the statements of patients who attended the River Centre Clinic- a completely separate treatment center, managed by others and with a different philosophy. Trust is one of the most vital aspects of eating disorder treatment, and I find it difficult to imagine that patients can trust The Toledo Center when they are dishonest on their own website, from the beginning.
Fantastic experience: They saved my life
Thank you for your kind words. We are honored to have been part of your recovery journey and value the role we played. We wish you continued success and happiness.
Fantastic experience: I can honestly say that this place saved my life. I entered in December of 2014 & it was one of the most life changing experiences I’ve been through. Of course it was extremely difficult and mentally challenging, but the staff was there every step of the way. My therapist was incredible, she challenged me in the most positive way and helped me get my life back. I’ve been recovered three years now and still email her from time to time. Eating disorders are not easy to overcome, but the people at RCC helped me in every way possible. I couldn’t be more thankful that the River Centre took me in & helped make recovery possible.
Fantastic experience: Going to River Centre was the best decision I've ever made for myself. When I first went, I didn't really think my eating disorder was that bad because of what my family was telling me, but they helped me realize that my eating habits weren't healthy and they worked to help me through not only my eating, but other personal problems I was having. The therapists and staff was absolutely amazing and I couldn't have made it through without them. It's been almost 2 months since I left and I'm still following a meal plan and gave stayed in my goal weight range. If you're struggling with an eating dislrder, I strongly recommend looking into Rivre Centre.
Fantastic experience: RCC is a God-send. I have a number of close friends who went through the program before and encouraged me to seek help there. It was the darkest time in my life when I first started, and am now feeling the most myself I’ve felt in years. I feel so supported and have grown tremendously since I began. I couldn’t imagine life today without them!
Negative experience: I did not have a good experience at River Centre. When I left, I was more obsessed with food then when I entered. Would not recommend RCC to anyone. Spend the extra money and go to a real inpatient eating disorder facility.
Fantastic experience: I went into the RCC terrified as I could possibly be. I did not think that I had a problem because people "had it worse." The staff was so friendly and helped tear down the wall that I had spent many years building. I got the individualized treatment that I needed. The RCC is the reason I am able to smile today.
Fantastic experience: I sought treatment at the River Centre Clinic after struggling with an eating disorder for over 20 years. With the hope, optimism and support of an incredible therapist at RCC, I found the fortitude to begin and complete intensive treatment. While at RCC, I was able to make the necessary changes that have truly transformed my life. I learned fundamental skills that assisted me to begin and continue the recovery process. All of the staff at RCC supported and encouraged me throughout my time there. All of the staff including the therapists, nurses, direct care workers, office staff, and the kitchen supervisor were engaging, empathetic, competent, compassionate, and supportive. I can't thank RCC enough for providing me with the best treatment to finally recover from my eating disorder.
Fantastic experience: Going through treatment at the River Centre Clinic was both the most difficult and the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Even when I didn’t think I could recover, the staff and other patients at RCC helped me push through and find the inner strength that my eating disorder had stolen from me. They taught me healthy coping mechanisms and other life skills that I now use every single day. RCC saved my life, and I am so incredibly grateful for the staff and for the lifelong friends that I made there. If anyone reading this is struggling with an eating disorder, please call the River Centre Clinic, and they will give you the help that you need. You CAN recover!
Fantastic experience: River Centre gave me the tools I need to thrive and become my best self. The therapists and staff truly care about each person that walks through their doors.
Fantastic experience: I will never be able to thank River Centre Clinic enough for the help they so readily extended to me when I needed it. I entered the first time in 2012, but I wasn't quite ready to be open and do it for myself. I returned in 2013, open and ready for true change and health. The entire staff was patient, understanding, and compassionate- all while being direct and pushing me a little more each day to step out of my comfort zone and into healing. My individual therapist has been a constant source of reasoning, support, guidance and compassion for years and years, and the rest of the staff continues to ask how I'm doing and show they care even years after my stay. I can genuinely say that, if you are willing to put in the work, this place and its staff will work wonders in your life. I could not be more thankful for the health and beautiful life I now have thanks to RCC. My daughter has a strong, healthy, happy mother because of the great things that happen at River Centre Clinic.
