Ochsner Fitness Center - Downtown

Positive experience: Nice amenities, dumbbells, racks, and cardio equipment. Some of the machines and cable station are dated and need updated. Great place to lift while in New Orleans.

Negative experience: I’ve requested membership information half a dozen times - no one has ever gotten back to me. Looks like a good gym network, but if you can’t even manage to respond to your information request form - you’re poorly run.

Positive experience: Ok gym, missing some key equipment though. Nice view

Positive experience: I was really excited about coming to this gym.. but on Sat they opened up an ONE HOUR LATE. I get stuff happens but they wouldn't even for go the day pass fee for the inconvenience.. said I had to call the manager but he was the manager.... Still don't like that ... Gym is nice mix of old school and new school equipment. Not far from Canal Street so I walked to the gym. I like the gym as a whole just hate they opened up so late and still charged me. Good equipment and variety. Just know this gym is on the I think 14th floor of that building it's in. They could hv more step masters.

Negative experience: Visiting New Orleans and this gym was right next to our hotel. A couple points: 1. $15 a day which is steep but eh, I can accept, no problem. 2. Look at the photo attached, out of 6 benches for dumbbells, 4 of them are “Out of Order”. I’ve never seen a gym this bad in terms of not having a bench to use. There were other machines also “Out of Order”. 3. The view is awesome but personally, I’m not paying $15 for one visit when half of the facility doesn’t work. My hotel gym has a good view… 4. They have a smoothie counter which is awesome after a good workout BUT the lady behind the counter playing on her phone said she was “not certified” to make a smoothie. Overall, I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because you can tell the gym is trying but wow, it needs some good attention and better staff.

Positive experience: It was a good gym to workout at during my visit. It wasn't too busy when I went in, post work afternoon. Great view of the city. They do have older equipments but you can find an equipment for any workout you're looking for. Their day pass wasn't too pricey either compared to other gyms I've gone to in other cities.

Fantastic experience: Awesome gym, centrally located, great variety of equipment for a full body workout. Clean, bright and great view of the city! Staff is really friendly and welcoming, and they do have a day pass which was great for me and very reasonable.

Fantastic experience: Functional and relatively cheap for a day pass! Kind of confusing to find, but once I did it had all I needed for leg day. I had searched for a “gay friendly” gym and this came up on the internet, but it didn’t feel very gay to me. So if you’re looking for a scene, this isn’t it, but if you’re looking for a functional place to get your workout in with no waiting, this is your place.

Negative experience: I love this gym and have been a member for 2 years, but I have to leave this review because this is the fourth time that I have come at arouns 5:30 am (the gym opens week days at 5 am) and it has been closed. A group of us is left waiting around for the opening staff member to show up, and many have to leave and go all the way back home, skipping their workouts altogether in order to make it on time to work. We call the Harahan location and they usually have no information, saying they will try and contact the staff member to wake them up and come open the gym for us. The fact that this has happened multiple times is unacceptable. Everything else about the gym is great! But this has to be addressed.

Fantastic experience: Informative staff, excellent facility

Negative experience: Clean and organized gym. Has sauna, hot tub, weight room and cardio room along with yoga studio I believe. The day I went, the hot tub was not working and the sauna did not have a proper seal on the door so it was quite inefficient. The weight room has limited and outdated equipment. The tricep dip machine which also happens to be the chest press machine doesn’t have a way to secure your knees in place when pushing down. There is a seat belt but it’s non functional. On the bright side, the place does have friendly staff members, parking validation for up to 2 hours after 5pm and the sauna + men’s locker room has a great city view.

Fantastic experience: Clean. Got many machines. A room for stretching and yoga. I really liked the supported bench press. Overall, highly recommended.

Positive experience: Was a bit complicated to get to but clean and quiet midday. Had all the basics except having carpet on the training floor is a bit gross to me. Otherwise the staff was pleasant and I got my workout in. I’d go again if I was in this area.

Fantastic experience: This gym view is breath taken. It's so beautiful when the sun sets. Apart from that, this facility is not as busy as the big one in Elmwood. You can get your work out in and be in and out and have your post work out meal nearby. The staff is friendly and the facility is clean. Definitely a good place to lift if you don't want to be bothered.

Negative experience: Honestly my worst gym experience, I rarely leave reviews for places including gyms or restaurants and usually it’s positive, but my experience here was awful. The gym was great. Decent equipment, hot tub and basketball court was a bit small. But the biggest issue was I was told something almost every other day by staff. Interrupted mid work out about shoes on a leg workout where you’re supposed to stay flat footed. Told something about using a handle on a metal bar which is a huge common practice. A staff member glaring at me and telling me I was slamming weights on tricep pull downs which is kinda impossible. Not to mention the machine needs like WD-40 or something but somehow it was my fault. I can’t for the life of me figure how I could pay over 100$ a month for a membership and be hassled everyday when all I want to do is workout. I was fed up and cancelled my membership which sucked because I was close and convenient

Fantastic experience: This is an excellent gym. Fully equipped, lots of cardio machines and very reasonably priced. It’s spotlessly clean and not at all crowded. Take a padlock with you for the locker. The staff are absolutely lovely. Stephanie is one of the nicest people and there’s excelente customer service.

Negative experience: Great facility but they don’t validate parking until after 4:30p? So… I guess they don’t want you to workout until then.

Fantastic experience: This is a great gym. I was visiting and the daily fee is reasonable, the Tabatta class was killer, the gym is clean and has a lot of equipment, and the staff were all friendly. The only thing this gym needs are heavier kettlebells. My hotel didn't have a gym and this was a great replacement for that.

Fantastic experience: Great fitness center in downtown location with a view of the New Orleans. Clean facilities, friendly staff, and great workout classes. Downtown features a sauna room, hot tub, racquetball court, basketball gym, and all workout equipment I ever needed.

He really did a great job explaining everything this gym had to offer. Now I'm only here for 2 days but I will be back for a 2nd day. For $10 a day you can't go wrong. Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, very clean, great equipment, even has an amazing view of the city as a bonus while you're exercising!! There is a very nice weight area, and selection of machines, and nice open cardio area. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: i was a member, but my credit card was stolen (and thus the number was changed) and instead of calling me or politely letting me know that my monthly payment was kicked back, they threatened to send me to collections and charged me a few hundred dollars of late fees. WTF. the classes have been going down hill, and the locker rooms are so-so. obviously i paid and quite. this is not a gym that cares about you. Update for "response to owner": they emailed me and asked to get in touch.... i called twice- left two voice mails and emailed twice.... no response....

Fantastic experience: Very nice gym! I'm here from out of town and this happened to be really close to my hotel. Not a super hard-core power lifting gym, but they do have a place specifically for deadlifting, and one squat rack. Plenty of machines and free-weights, cardio equipment up stairs, and am amazing view from the 13th floor above a parking garage! They also have 2 erg rowing machines (concept 2). Very impressed with this gym! If I lived close to here it would be my go-to spot.

Fantastic experience: I was visiting New Orleans for a week, and the Ochsner Fitness Center was nearby and had the classes I wanted. I attended two - Body Combat and Cardio Kickboxing - and had a fabulous time! The instructor was good, the workout was intense, and the people are wonderful! It was a little hard fort me to find the entrance, but I called up and they gave me directions. Nice clean place, good equipment, great staff -- if I lived here, I'd go three times a week! And very inexpensive, too.

Fantastic experience: Came in as an out-of-town guest and was treated superbly. I was helped by Jade and Kristian (if I spelled that right). Normally when I hit a gym in a different city, I pay $15 or $20 to catch a couple annoyed looks that a new waiver needs to be signed. Guests are only $10 here. Kristian was exceptionally welcoming and gave me a quick rundown of where everything was. He was ultra friendly to put my recovery drink in the cooler and Jade was very sweet and delightful. I highly recommend this gym to guests and this would be my no-doubt, go-to spot if I lived or worked in downtown NOLA. Thanks guys!

Fantastic experience: Great facility, just what I needed for a quick deadlift session while away at a conference. Very friendly employees, just keep an eye on the time cause they close relatively early.

Fantastic experience: You’ll find the elevator on the left side of the Shell Building. Do not enter from Poydras Street. You’ll see a glass door beside the parking lot then take the elevator to the 15th floor. Great little gym with nice equipment. We were visiting and it has pretty much everything you need to lift and for cardio machines.

Negative experience: They don't answer phones, they have a seemingly eastern european front desk worker who when you ask for anything gruffly tells you prices as if she worked in the welfare department. I've been calling them for an HOUR trying to find if their hours tomorrow, BUSY, for AN HOUR. Even when calling in the morning a guy answers and wants to know your NAME before he'll tell you hours open. Obviously Ochsner Fitness downtown neither cares nor wants business. Amazing. Are these guys kidding?.

Positive experience: I was expecting a lot more out of a gym with such a superb location. I tried out their free 2-week trial and realized that it wasn't for me. The staff is not friendly, nor helpful. They spend most of the time behind a desk and don't really offer any knowledge, support, and barely can bring themselves to smile. This gym is mostly filled with "bros" and it is very machine-oriented. The machines are all working but they are not very well maintained (there's a lot of squeaking and some of the padding is damanged). I liked that everything is essentially in one space, the music they play is decent, but it's hard to feel a sense of belonging when the people are so dry. Also, they are closed on Sundays, which is a critical day for me to work out.
