Our comment from Nutrifinder.net about Saint Luke's Primary Care-Smithville:

Saint Luke's Primary Care-Smithville is dedicated to providing compassionate and effective healthcare services. Many patients have praised their experiences with the medical staff, highlighting Dr. Cater and Francesca Minnis, NP for their attentive care and ability to listen to patient concerns. The clinic is known for its friendly office staff, quick appointment processing, and a smooth experience from check-in to consultation.

Positive experiences shared by patients include:

  • Efficient appointment scheduling and minimal wait times.
  • A caring team that consistently provides thorough examinations and follows up with necessary treatments.
  • Comfortable waiting environments, making visits pleasant.
  • Quick and easy access to healthcare, with many patients expressing gratitude for the availability of telehealth options.

However, some feedback indicates a need for improvement in billing transparency and patient communication. Moreover, there have been reports of less satisfactory interactions with some staff members, leading to frustrations during communication.

Overall, Saint Luke's Primary Care-Smithville stands out for its remarkable patient care and team of dedicated professionals, with ongoing efforts to enhance patient satisfaction and address any concerns raised by patients.

Negative experience: So for a doctor visit I was told it’s only 144$, and for a test results it was like 200, then I get a bill of over 540$, I called them, they saying doctor visit was 500 and for test results it’s 200 so they gave me a discount came to 540 total they saying. They just robbed me, I also forgot to mention this was my second visit there, the first visit for a doctor was also 144$ with a blood test was 144 total, that last appointment same thing only blood test, and bill came to 540$. They robbed me.

Negative experience: Don't let all the brochures about how great a place this is fool u... the brochure claims it's the family's responsibility to get with the staff for the best treatment of the patient.. well my daughter was checked in from a separate st lukes hospital er. I was the one that signed the papers for the 96hr hold.. she was having a reaction to the meds she was taking for her seizures.. I tried repeatedly to get someone anyone to talk to me.. no one would call me back.. even a courtesy call telling me they couldn't talk to me and giving me a pathway to being able to talk to someone would of been nice.. but no I think I called 4 times and no one called back.. when I was visiting her a nurse heard me talking about this she said she would go get the floor manager to talk to me.. 40 mins later visiting hrs where over.. not one person showed up to talk to me.. by that point my daughter had signed the papers for them to talk to me.. after that I was willing to sleep in the same room as the devil to just get her out of there.. this is not a facility that they go to get out of.. they need a place these people can actually go outside and just enjoy the fresh air.. yes fixed so they can't get away but fresh air as to being in prison on that second floor... if ur loved one is in there.. my heart goes out to u.. get them moved!!!!!!!! Sad part is I had my daughter at Chillicothe st lukes the day prior to her complete melt down and the Dr there asked me what I wanted to come from that visit... he was a joke.. she was suffering then from paranoia from the side effects of the meds.. he wasn't even on top of things enough to see that... my daughters request is to get completely out of the st lukes system.. sadly we can't do that because they pretty much own all the hospitals near us.. she's at home now doing great after being off that seizure med.. sadly very few people listened to me day that.. they wanted to blame it on mental illness... only time someone called me was the last day when the Dr called me saying she was ready to go home.. sadly the medical profession likes to hide behind that hippa crap ans yet this dame very law keeps them from talking to u so u can give ur input on what's going on.. someone should of called and explained the steps I needed to go through to talk to the drs..Dr's... NO ONE EVER DID!!!!!!! UPDATE.. I see they r all eager to talk now I left a review.. sad part is all I wanted before was a person to talk to.. the patients advocate.. and sadly I never talked to anyone till 15 mins before she was checked out.. they blew their chance..

Positive experience: I tested positive for Covid yesterday. I called to get Paxlovid. They won’t prescribe it without a video visit. The soonest one available is on Monday. It will be past the 5 days. No exceptions. After multiple phone calls they finally did give me a video appointment and I did get the Paxlovid.

Negative experience: This practice is very shady and bills you for things that should be included in your annual physical. My insurance covers an annual physical. I repeatedly told them to not do anything during the physical if it would entail extra charges. My free annual physical ends up costing close to $400. I went through a year of cancer treatments at KU, and never had the problems I have had at this practice with extra charges. I have had to appeal it with insurance. My insurance company said they have never seen a practice charge for a referral during an annual physical. I have sent letters and talked to a billing person, and they just tell me to pay the bill. Please save yourself time and money and go to another practice for your medical needs. I would give them negative stars if allowed.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this St Luke’s Primary Care-Smithville for a few years. I have to say I have always had an excellent experience from the time I walked in and checked in. To being called back with the nurse. Who is always very thorough with her tasks of BP, weight, temp, patient medical updates. She is also fast at getting me any answers to emails I send. My Primary doctor is very thorough as we go over my medications. She is on top of lab work. She will send me for x-rays and physical therapy if needed.

Negative experience: Here's a long rant. There really is a need for an overhaul at this facility. I sure hope my family and I never have to go there again. I decided to run to St Luke's for me and my daughter on a Saturday. I gave the nurse who also is the front desk person all of the info I could give her to make sure nothing was missed. My daughter had strep and was on antibiotics but developed some rash. I had been running a fever at home for two days with temp taken by mouth and ear so I thought I might also have strep. When the nurse took my temp there, I asked her how the ear temp was properly taken to get accurate reading (because it felt like it was sitting on my cartilage when she did it). She said it didn't have to go inside the ear canal, which I knew... but I'm pretty sure it should sit at the entrance of your earhole. My cartilage was at 98.5... I was running 100.1 - 100.4 at home. Her comment was "I'm not saying you don't feel bad, but you're not running a fever..." Or something along those lines. I let it go because she said it had been a very crazy busy day... Besides, I was truly feeling like crap and wasn't in the mood for argument. The practitioner came in with her phone in her hand, I assumed is Google Lens as she pointed it to my daughter's rash. I explained to her we've been dealing with molluscum for 4 years and she only had one or two more of it that we could see, until this rash showed up. She used her phone and said, "Oh, yes, that's definitely molluscum." She proceeded to tell me how it could be taken care of after I just told her we've dealt with it for 4 years and is now almost done with it for another 5 minutes. Then she proceeded to tell me things as if I just didn't tell the nurse anything... and all I could think of is get me some meds! (Which I don't usually ask for, but when your body aches so much that even your teeth hurt and you can't breathe, I wanted some!) I just don't know what to think about a medical professional pointing her phone at my daughter's rash and my ear cartilage being checked for fever. I myself wasn't running a fever according to them so no test for flu was done. They did check for strep since my daughter had it. That was negative. Sooooo we went back home still feeling like crap with nothing to really go with. 4 days later, I went to my actual doctor still running a fever. Come to find out, I had the FLU B but they couldn't give me anything because of the delay in diagnosis. It's infuriating to say the least because it could have been caught on Saturday and I might had a chance to shorten its duration. I'm now dealing with the aftermath of this going on for too long. It's been almost 3 weeks and I'm still upset over it! I almost don't even want to pay the $337 but doesn't do me any good, does it?

Negative experience: Approx a year and a half ago I would say, I came to my 69 year old mothers doctor appointment here with Dr. Cater. The entire reason I went with my mom is because my mom told me this Doctor treated her portly. Upon the doctor coming into the room, she completely seemed to dismiss everything my mom told her. My mom never once asked for pain medicine but the doctor immediately said I’m not giving you pain meds. My mom NEVER asked for pain meds. Not once. Keep in mind my mom was 69 years old, and had, had a total right hip replacement 10 years prior that left her with excruciating pain, she also had recently to that visit had arteries in her leg cleaned out and her leg was horrendous. She did in fact need pains meds. With that being said I saw all I needed to see, of this horrible woman’s poor nasty treatment to my mother. Just the way she talked to her like she was talking down to her and belittling her was enough for me, that it took everything in me to not lose my temper in the worst way. While she was in the room I immediately was texting my sister who is in healthcare and told her moms done here she will not come back and my sister was on the phone with another doctor getting her setup to be seen. We ended this poor absolute shameful visit with this pathetic doctor, walked out, up to the checkup counter and asked them to send my moms medical records to the new doctor and she wouldn’t be back. I will never ever ever use this woman, recommend her and if you were to call me and talk to me about her I promise you I would tell you, she’s a horrible, nasty individual! My mom died a couple months after this visit. St Luke’s is a great hospital, no doubt. I go to a different location but this “doctor” needs to learn empathy and not just assume people are drug seekers. My mom was a newer patient for her, she should have got to know her first vs treating her as if she was just another drug user. She was in pain and needed someone to listen.

Positive experience: Love my nurse practitioner here! However I Scheduled a appointment for my son for the next day. Turns out he has a class that hour he can’t miss. Called 750am day of to reschedule. Was told that it would be a no show appointment and I can get a new appointment for the next day. I asked why the “no show” on the appointment? She snapped at me and said because I didn’t call 2hr in advance. I said that They weren’t open that early to make it 2 hr window and she said well I should have went on the portal and canceled online. But you can’t, it says to call to cancel. And then snaps she’s not arguing with me anymore about it I get a call the day before the appointments and should have figured it out then.. I said but I just scheduled the day before and I was just wondering why it was going to be a no show if I literally couldn’t reschedule before the 2hrs. And then very loudly snapped and said that she’s not arguing with me about this. I said ok and she said she has it rescheduled the next day and hung up. Look I get getting snippy when people yell or get mad but I literally wasn’t saying it mean. I genuinely wanted to know what other ways I had so it didn’t happen again. There’s no need to have hateful sounding people talking appointments when a patients asked a question.

Fantastic experience: Big kudos to Jodi Baldwin and her boss, Pam, for helping me maneuver through the hospital system's of billing when an error occured. Jodi personally went out of her way to help me once, then twice, then 3 times, until I was assured that the problem is now resolved. People who are kind and willing to communicate are great health care partners. Thanks so much ladies.

Negative experience: I will never go there again had no insurance paid 105.00 to be seen. Spend 25 min to just talk to a dr. Who did nothing for me and got another bill in the mail for 60.00. Tried to dispute it. Told me it scaled as a level 3 and I needed to pay it.

Negative experience: Up until 2 years ago we loved this place for emergency urgent care, family Medical Care. The current staff seems less pleasant less knowledgeable caring social. I had taken my son in for an issue with his foot. The treatment we received was is frustrating. We felt like we were not wanted to be seen the staff did not know what to do even though the issue was fairly simple but nothing that I would be able to do at home for my son and required certain Medical Care. Getting referrals updated and transferred I'm leaving messages for primary Care manager has also been difficult. We will be looking into changing primary Care Management

Negative experience: A family friend was recently sent to the behavioral health unit there after a suicide attempt. The staff was uncommunicative and unfriendly to family members. No one knows what care if any was offered. After a week they pronounced her "well" and released her without notifying family. She told them she was homeless (untrue) so they bussed her without a coat in the wintertime to Kansas City. Now she is wandering the streets after being ejected from a women's shelter for being unable to answer questions. She is out of her mind and there is no help for the family to try and find her.

Negative experience: Terrible experience with front desk in the doctor's appointment waiting room. Extremely rude to the point of being hateful. It was my first time at this hospital which is a long drive and I arrived 15 minutes late. The nurse told me they are trained to talk and be that way when patients are late or miss their appointment. I was terribly stressed but apparently they treat all their patients this way.

Fantastic experience: Went to the ER. Everyone was very attentive and helpful. The NP was great. They were not quick to run all kinds of tests like other ER’s and let me leave after all my concerns were addressed. For my situation they were great.

Negative experience: Security has insecurities... We were just waiting... Nothing worth telling us to leave over!!

Fantastic experience: Everyone was extremely polite and helped me the best they could. They made sure I was feeling better before I left and did all the necessary labs to rule out what could have been wrong. The only thing they couldn't do was an ultrasound but recommended a nearby hospital that could.

Negative experience: I am broken on this review because I am not sure what has happened or who has said it, so here it goes; I have been seeing Abernathy for yes now and at the Smithville office for at least 5 and I had to have FMLA paperwork for work and there were a couple of times that the nurse Debra has messed up on paperwork, so the day I was to have my appointment with Abernathy he had to cancel so he could bring his children into this world and they rescheduled be with one of the other Dr. well long story shorter I sat in the office room for 1.5 hrs then the nurse came in and said there is nothing I can do. I was upset and walked out of the room and asked to speak with Abernathys’ nurse and they asked me to sit in waiting room, as I was sitting there in came security then they called me back to speak to the nurse. I was asking questions about why the other drs did not get the information about me that she said she would give them and other ?? about my FMLA I wasn’t getting full answers so I just got fed up and left. A week later I go to refill my prescriptions and they denied because I was no longer a patient... I had no idea this had happened but after talking to management it was stated that I had inappropriate behavior and was escorted out of the office. First off I was simply asking questions and was NEVER escorted so now I have no meds and no Dr. I loved Dr Abernathy but I am not sure if this was his decision or the office decision and then they said well Abernathy is leaving soon anyway but you still can not come to Smithville office. LOST AND CONFUSED

Fantastic experience: I just visited with Dr. Worley for the first time today & it was a WONDERFUL experience. She made me feel comfortable & understood each of the symptoms I explained that I have been experiencing. She had a solution & I look forward to working with her and seeing her in the future.

Negative experience: My sister came her for drug abuse. Instead of teaching her coping mechanisms, they doped her up and let her out early. She immediately relapsed. No help at all.

Fantastic experience: I went to the hospital for pain due to kidney stones. Everything was very nice, everyone was helpful. I thought the staff was great. I went in at night, and was seen by a nurse practitioner. Definitely a rural smalltown hospital, but I was well taken care of.

Fantastic experience: Have used St Lukes for years and the Smithville location for the past 4. Dr Abernathy is my primary and is great. Always feel like he gives me enough time and is always great at explaining things. In addition, the office has always worked to get me in quickly if needed. Great place.

Negative experience: Customer service is not what they do. All the employees were rude. Apparently hospitals are refusing to help people with pain because of others abusing the system. I say let them, may they die and let those wiith real problems have help. Stop treating people like they are all drug addicts looking for a fix. So stupid. Overall a worthless place. As most all hospitals are.

Negative experience: PLEASE BE ADVISED: The Staff here is dishonest; A few of my belongings were stolen from my suitcase during my stay. I would suggest bringing very little with you...and certainly nothing of value.

Fantastic experience: My girlfriend recently spent a few days here for mental health purposes. She's had bad experiences at similar facilities in the past, so she was very nervous. The staff at St. Luke's North Hospital proved exceptionally kind and accommodating. They showed great compassion, providing help that was geared specifically to her needs and making special exceptions when they were necessary for her comfort and recovery. I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for inpatient treatment for mental health.

Negative experience: This is not a hospital, this is an extended stay doctor office at best. What Little equipment they have is not functional or looks like it came from the original down town hospital. But their billing system works just like a full scale hospital, at least the amount they bill you for. Make sure you double check the drugs they give/perscribe you for interactions and allergies. A quick Google search can save you from a bad reaction.

Fantastic experience: I have four children, and believe me when I say we have made a lot of trips to the E.R. in the past few years of living here in Smithville. Every time we get in right away and leave in a very quick time period following admissions. They are always very friendly and right to the point. I as well have been there my fare-share of times, one of them being a trauma accident and they saved my life. I have a huge amount of respect for this hospital, and all the doctors in it. We also have our family physician in this location as well. We have had nothing but positive experiences with Rebecca Baskins and we love having Dr. Bluml as our main Doctor. Thank you Smithville Hospital, you all do an amazing job!!!

Fantastic experience: We love Dr. Abernathy. He has been our primary physician for three years. He is very knowledgeable, kind, and willing to answer any question. He has referred us to outstanding specialists when needed. We feel very blessed to have him as our doctor and St. Luke's network for all our healthcare needs.

Negative experience: Worst hospital ever! Horrible customer service and a 4 hour wait, with not one patient in the ER. DON'T COME HERE!!

Negative experience: The St. Luke's North Hospital's ER department is a joke. I've been there a couple times & each time there wasn't even a MD Doctor. So pretty much you have a Emergency Room in a decent sized town operating w/o a Doctor pretty much able to treat anything.

Negative experience: My husband and I moved to the area last summer. I have a chronic pain condition and I typically end up at the ER about once a year. I had to go this last Sunday because the pain meds I have prescribed weren't working. Initially, our visit was fine until we met with the doctor. There didn't seem to be any one else there but our overall visit was about 2.5 hours. I'm not sure how long it took to see the doctor but I know this was most of our wait. Still not that different from most hospitals. Then the doctor came in to see me. I had already started vomiting and had a bag of vomit in my hand. The doctor left the room with the vomit asking the nurse what to do with it. When the doctor came back in, I informed him that I have chronic pain caused by nerve damage in my sinuses which is what I have been told by at least two of the four ENT's I've had including a neurologist and a pain management doctor. The ER doctor told me a few times while we were talking that he had never heard of this. He proceeded to examine me including pressing on my sinuses to see if it was painful. I guess he missed the part about my having nerve damage in my sinuses which causes horrible burning pain which will spread to a headache if untreated. Then the doctor began to tell me about sinus sprays and how they can affect my sinuses. I stopped him more than once to tell him that I don't use sinus sprays because in the past they have made my pain worse. The doctor questioned the judgment of my last ENT for giving me a lidocaine nose spray which is just to help numb the area when I'm having pain. He did give me some information on the long term effects of lidocaine which I had never heard before. My typical ER visit typically includes an IV for fluids, something for the pain and then something for the nausea. The IV is very quick and helps relieve my pain fast. The doctor opted for two shots in the rear which I received maybe 20 minutes after he left and then they took another 20 minutes to kick in. The pain wasn't all the way gone but the nurse apologetically said the doctor would not give me anything else and was ready to discharge me. My biggest complaint of this hospital is that the doctor's bedside manner was poor and he did not seem to have much compassion for the pain I was experiencing. The doctor opted for a slow method of pain relief after I had been throwing up due to the pain. The doctor behaved as if he didn't believe me, never asked my pain level, and didn't care if my pain was better or not when he was ready to discharge me. The nurse, however, apologized even as I was leaving about the doctor's choices. I regret that I was somewhat rude to her but I had been hurting all day and had hoped to get more relief by going to the Emergency Room. I don't think we will go back to this hospital next time I need it. We will take the longer route to Heartland or maybe North Kansas City Hospital.

Negative experience: My Parents who have been going to see Dr Baskins for 15 plus years was turned away because they arrived at 11:30 for my mom's appointment. They were told that they were to late, that her appt was at 11:00. My mother has been recovering from her 2nd broken hip in the past 10 weeks. My father can barely get around himself let alone had to help my mom get into her wheel chair etc... I cannot believe that she would not fit them in. I am so very disappointed at what has become of Dr's and how they just want to see how many patients they can get in and out the door in minutes.
