Alinea Performance

Fantastic experience: Today I 'graduated' from Alinea Performance. I was referred to Dr. Andrew Gillihan by Travis McClain, DO., in December 2024 with ongoing L5/S1 herniation and Degenerative Disk Disease. It was painful to stand, sit, lay down, perform daily tasks; really- just to exist. If you struggle with chronic pain (pain that admittedly, I perpetuated with apathy and putting all other things ahead of my physical health), you know that it's a landslide of pain, limited activity, more pain, worsening pain. I felt that at forty-nine years old, I had really gotten myself to a place where I needed serious professional help.
I had just finished a 'typical' course of physical therapy prescribed by my primary care physician that left me somewhat better but still in considerable pain, limited movement and facing injections and surgery. I showed up at my first appointment with Dr Andrew thinking that it felt different because 1. It was a gym (shudder!) and 2. He spoke to me about the ‘why’ and ‘science’ behind my pain 3. He put my getting better on ME. This was a whole new approach and he made it so that all of my exercises were based in gaining strength with repetition and not ‘stopping’ because it hurt. He demonstrated in-depth about levels of tolerance, how to identify an ‘ok feeling’ and when to stop.
Over the past twelve weeks I have gained so much confidence in my ability to do what I need for myself, complete my activities for daily living at home, and to be able to sit at my desk and perform my job. I have made changes to my schedule that are simple changes that make a big difference in my comfort level. I still have plenty of room to grow and goals to work towards, but to think that I could barely move without pain before to now jogging is amazing. The type of care Alinea and Dr. Andrew provides is so different than I’ve had before, you can tell it’s his passion; he is personable, patient and makes working out semi-enjoyable! :) If you are still reading this long-winded review, thank you - because you too are searching for help with your pain. Alinea Performance is WORTH the time, effort and financial investment. As others have said, it’s true, I really do wish I knew about this type of therapy years ago. I will tell EVERYONE I know who’s looking for help to give them a shot.

Fantastic experience: Andrew is an extremely good PT/Coach. He listens to you and then is direct, explains everything with such a positive vibe. He observes and will educates you. I am very thankful for all he has done. He actually came to my gym, met all my personal trainers, watched our workout giving me some tips along the way. He had no idea how much that meant to me. If you are looking for an everyday go thru the norm of physical therapy Andrew is not the man. But if you are looking for positive reinforcement, mental toughness, increase physical strength and seek success ....he is the absolute trainer for you. I hope this review has helped you. He didn't just care about me recovering, he cared about my mental health, me as a person and my well being! Fantastic experience: Had low back pain for years from a slipped disc, going to Alinea and Dr Paige Dewitt changed my active life again! Fantastic experience: Best results I have had for physical therapy. The knowledge of Dr. Andrew combined with his ability to listen and articulate how I can improve my strength and overcome my injury feels like he is truly invested in helping me. I will become stronger and more prepared physically if I elect to have rotator cuff surgery. If I continue to make progress with my strength I made forgo surgery all together. Win win!

Fantastic experience: After years of crippling migraines brought on by two main triggers, neck pain being a primary trigger, my daughter suggested I explore Alinea Performance for physical therapy as a possible solution. I'm so glad I did. Dr. Paige DeWitt helped me immensely with mitigating my migraine pain! Paige identified my problem on Day 1 (something the chiropractors, clinical massage therapists, and acupuncturist I visited all missed over the years). She created a personalized physical therapy routine that yielded results within the first two weeks. Fantastic experience: I came in with an extremely sore back. It effected my ability to run and work out. After working with Andrew Gillihan, my back has felt better than ever. Not only did I learn I how to alleviate the pain, he taught me how to work out to prevent the issues from coming back. Many practices want you to come back, Andrew's goal to to give you the tools to keep you from having to come back.

Fantastic experience: Under Dr Andrew Gillihan’s compassionate and knowledgeable guidance and care, my post prostatectomy recovery was accelerated. He communicated clearly in an easily understandable manner, the physiological issues surrounding male incontinence and the factors involved in the recovery process. A progressively challenging exercise regime was implemented and monitored to help accelerate the healing/ recovery process. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Gillihan program to aid in the recovery of post prostatectomy incontinence.

Paige challenged me, with encouragement every session which was exactly what I needed! I am much stronger now and able to deal with my aging issues much better than I had been before turning to Alinea. I have mixed emotions about ‘graduating’ though Paige set me up for success to continue on my own. I highly recommend Alinea to anyone needing help physical therapy.

Fantastic experience: I worked with Andrew for several months trying to overcome a lower back injury and ended up continuing to use his programming to prepare for a fitness competition 9 months later. The programs were a good mixture of movements that helped me focus on the specific areas I needed to improve while building overall fitness. He was also receptive to various changes I needed to make while traveling due to equipment availability. I would 100% recommend using Alinea and working with Andrew if you need any kind of help with fitness programming, recovering from injuries, or just need some support for your fitness journey.

Positive experience: My goal to control incontinence has occurred faster than anticipated. I’ve gained more confidence managing urgency in urine flow. Regaining strength in my lower back area is still challenging. I’ve only completed about 1/3 rd of the scheduled therapy sessions

Fantastic experience: Dr. Andrew has provided me relief and insight into my chronic migraines and neck pain that I have never received elsewhere in my years of seeking out care and relief. His clinic is located in a great spot, and his facility has amazing equipment. He’s extremely knowledgeable, and compassionate and he is a great teacher and advocate. I was very hesitant to start PT, given my previous experience with other clinics, but Dr. Andrew’s approach and skills proved me otherwise. I would recommend him to anyone, especially my loved ones. Fantastic experience: I went to Dr. Gillihan for my back without much confidence physical therapy would help but thought I should try. To my great surprise through his comprehensive set of exercises and personal interaction my back is strong and feeling much better. Fantastic experience: Dr. Barney did a fantastic job helping me balance personal goals with avoiding injuries! He provided a plan tailored to my goals, checked in regularly (in person and via text) to assess my progress and opened my eyes to areas of opportunity that would increase my chances of hitting my goal and ensure I can stay healthy and enjoy running for years to come.

Fantastic experience: Coming in I didn’t think I would be able to do anything at all because of my accident. Dr. Andrew assured me that I could in the beginning. I didn’t believe him at all because the pain I had experience with his gentle coaxing he showed me that it was possible. Now, after just three months, I am nearly back to 100% of the life I lived before my accident. I would’ve never thought I would’ve been able to do any of the things I am doing now. Dr. Andrew gave me the tools showed me how to do the things I need to do and awoken the beast inside of me. Fantastic experience: Despite her youth, Dr. Paige DeWitt - is a very knowledgeable and highly skilled Physical Therapist. I had undergone a serious shoulder surgery and felt that my progress had stalled with another PT group. Within a few minutes of meeting Dr. DeWitt I felt comfortable - I have a particular need to understand what I am doing. She answered all my questions - we came up with a plan. My progress has been remarkable. Dr. Dewitt is the "real deal" - highly recommend her.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Bryan Barney has been working with me for a while to help me with pelvic pain due to arthritis and back pain due to multiple issues, both which have made walking difficult. He is the best physical therapist I have gone to. He is not just following his regularly scheduled program of therapy. He has a cadre of exercises and equipment to help me as an individual. He LISTENS. His problem solving has helped me build strength and has reduced my pain. His explanations of the exercises and what they will do to help me are excellent. He corrects my implementation of the exercises so they will provide the best result. He provides videos to reference for my at home therapy. I have recommended him to several people already. I have driven by this gym for years and never realized what they could offer. I am so glad that my pain management doctor recommended them.

Fantastic experience: I recently had the pleasure of working with Dr. Andrew Gillihan for six weeks, and I highly recommend Alinea for anyone seeking physical therapy. Dr. Godby at Christ referred me to Andrew based on my mid-back issues, emphasizing that he would be a great fit for me. Having done physical therapy at other places, I can confidently say that working with Andrew was the best experience I've had. Scheduling appointments was a breeze; his flexible hours accommodated my schedule, and he communicated promptly regarding any changes. Every session was one-on-one, and I truly appreciated having his undivided attention throughout. Fantastic experience: Dr. Andrew was an enormous help in helping me reduce and manage my lower back pain as I returned to activity. He started me at 0 with functional movements, focusing on getting my pain to a manageable level. Past that, he instructed me on a set of exercises to build up strength and endurance to reduce pain long-term. I appreciated how he was responsive and adjusted my program when I had setbacks, and that he gave excellent feedback on exercise form. He encouraged moving appropriately without overthinking movements, which was very helpful. I'd absolutely recommend anyone with back pain to give Dr. Andrew and Alinea a shot- they're not kidding when they say it's a different take on physical therapy.

Fantastic experience: I worked with Dr. Brian Barney at Alinea for 2 months on a very bad case of plantar fasciitus and knee pain. He was great at listening to me explain my symptoms and goals. Even better, he provided me with the PT guidance to alleviate my symptoms and get better. I'm not totally 100% yet, but SO much better. At age 70, I know it takes time and there aren't any permanent solutions, but Brian has me on the right path. I won't be running any marathons--thank god--but can continue my fitness regime including specific exercises and my favorite activities including bicycling, swimming, and resistance training. I'd recommend him to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Never before have I been excited to leave a review for any company, business, etc. Alinea Performance quite literally changed my life. I herniated a disc in my low back about 7 years ago deadlifting, and had seen many doctors, massage therapists, and physical therapists to try and help, but nothing created long term change. I love to lift heavy, but I never knew how to transition from my doctors back to lifting heavy. And I would almost always end up just hurting myself again. The pain became so great, that not only was it keeping me from lifting, but I would be trying to stretch out the pain all day while at work, and ended up having ti leave work a few times because of it which was miserable. Enter Alinea Performance and Andrew. The very first visit I had, Andrew was able to GREATLY alleviate my pain and cause emotional release (emotions I didn't even know I was carrying) WITHOUT EVER EVEN LAYING HANDS ON ME. He simply gave me helpful breathing queues and put me through a few exercises, and I felt immediate relief. Over the next few weeks/couple of months, Andrew gave me the tools and knowledge to 1) fix my low back pain and constant stress it created and 2) get me back to lifting heavy. Words cannot describe what that means to me and how valuable that is. I can do the things I love again, and most of all, work all day without lower back pain and having to stop and stretch in the middle of the work day. Andrew and Alinea gave me a big part of my life back, and I would 100% recommend them to anyone in physical pain.

Fantastic experience: Paige was very much tuned in to my injury and knew exactly what I should do to correct my problem. She was right on target and after a couple of months of therapy I felt like a new person, probably 20 years younger. I could not of had a better experience.

Fantastic experience: Complaining of multiple back problems at 77 years old, I checked in to Alinea and Dr. Barney with high hope but, the depressing reality of not being able to participate in my favorite sport - tennis, nor a number of other physically demanding activities. Through caring counsel and a rigorous program of physical therapy I have returned to those activities and avoided the projected need, by a local medical authority, of spinal fusion. I can't find sufficient superlatives to full describe the results I've enjoyed from the treatment and hard work prescribed at Alinea.

Fantastic experience: After living in near-constant pain for 20+ years from a neck injury I am finally living pain free. I’ve seen countless orthopedic doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists and been prescribed muscle relaxers, steroids, and more. They were all either ineffective or covered up the symptoms temporarily. Dr. Gillihan was the first time anyone actually took the time to listen to me, figure out what the problem is and actually explain it to me, then work consistently with me to achieve my goals. I never thought I could get to this level of comfort or go this long without pain. It’s been life changing and I cannot recommend his services enough.

They know how to target the real issues and provide exercises that are individually unique. I'll never go back to a hospital setting.

Fantastic experience: I'm a personal trainer that's been working in the fitness industry since 2017. I've interacted with many medical professionals over that time either for my own treatment or referring clients. My typical experience going to a medical provider is being treated like information on a chart and max a 10 minute conversation without even looking me in the eyes. That would NEVER be the case at Alinea. They treat PEOPLE. Doctor Andrew creates a welcoming environment that is all about you. He implements the many methods from his vast knowledge base to treat his patients all while providing invaluable education so that patients understand and are also able to help themselves and avoid pain or injury in the future. Dr. Andrew has also formed an incredible team of therapists that all care about their patients deeply. If you need help, this is the place to go! This is by FAR the best medical practice I have ever received treatment.

Fantastic experience: My dad sees Dr. Gillihan, for chronic back hip and knee issues. He has made phenomenal progress with him. He is able to participate in activities that he thought he would have to give up. He has significantly improved his life. Fantastic experience: I was referred to Andrew by a friend due to continued pain following surgery and rehab at another facility. During my initial evaluation, it was determined that my pain was due to ongoing weakness (despite having completed rehab elsewhere). Working with Andrew, he created a treatment plan to meet my specific needs to decrease my pain through strengthening. It's great to have a provider who listens to your concerns, provides feedback (with thorough explanations), and alters your plan as needed based on your individual response. I will recommend Andrew and his team to anyone in need of physical therapy services.

Fantastic experience: The department found Alinea Performance to provide physical therapy for the fire department members to increase their overall health and wellness. Doc Andrew has been working with our members on injury prevention, injury recovery and movement education. He has provided numerous opportunities to our members to improve themselves and conduct the job of firefighting in better ways.

Fantastic experience: I worked with Dr. Barney to treat and prevent my foot pain that was in the midst of developing into plantar fasciitis as I was preparing for my first 10k. He was very methodical and attentive. He performed a thorough analysis on my stride and how I was distributing my weight while running, after which he gave me valuable exercises and direction to improve my form and prevent injury. I will be going back for any kind of sports related aches or pains in the future!

Fantastic experience: Back pain for me was ongoing for roughly 15 years. Had tried multiple rounds and providers of traditional physical therapy, injections, x-rays, MRIs, and even consulted a surgeon. Dr Andrew listened to what my issues with lower back pain were, customized a plan to address the core issues, and 12 weeks later I am so much improved. Fantastic experience: My husband, John, and I have been working with Brian Barney at Alinea Performance for several months. Last year John, at 82, suffered multiple seizures lasting 3 days. He lost a lot including strength, balance, memory and his desire socialize or to work out at the gym, which he had done faithfully all his life. After several attempts at PT with moderate improvement, we were referred to Drs. Andrew Gillihan and Brian Barney at Alinea. Here John has dramatically improved in all areas. I used to worry constantly about him falling, (because he did so regularly) never going to sleep until he did and always on high alert if he got up during the night to use the bathroom. I rarely left him home alone. Since coming to Alinea, John's strength, balance, recovery time, memory, confidence and willingness to get back to living life has soared! I no longer worry! Brian is very creative, insightful and intuitive in working with both of us. He makes our work-outs fun but challenging, always using different exercises, equipment and experiences. Strength and balance, for those of us experiencing aging, seems to be a huge problem! Just last week Brian asked me to do a balance activity he had introduced at the very beginning....I could hardly do it then. 2 months later, when I tried again and we were both elated that I could do it with ease! I was amazed and delighted! I cannot say say enough positive things about Brian and Andrew! Although I only worked once with Andrew, he is very open and willing to answer all my questions about John's and my journey and his philosophy regarding Alinea. This group is highly recommended! You won't appreciate all my accolades unless I point out the one thing I don't like... I'm not totally looking through rose colored glasses! The building owner might want to repair the leaky roof and fix the humps in the floor.

Fantastic experience: Andrew was able to help me through a dislocated kneecap and within a couple of months get me into fighting shape even with the setbacks of further injuries. Fantastic experience: On the first day I had a session with Andrew, after 7 months of chronic back pain, Andrew clued me in on a couple of techniques and I felt relief. It gave me hope I would one day be pain free. I was lucky to have twice weekly sessions with him for 6 weeks and said goodbye feeling strong and excellent. I intentionally waited this long to write a review to see if his exercise regime outside of his studio, and without his coaching would keep me feeling great. Fantastic experience: I was having chronic lower back pain issues for quite sometime and was getting physical therapy at another location that was not helping me. Fantastic experience: I suffer from sciatica pain. I was referred to Alina by my pain management doctor. I wasn’t sure about physical therapy but thought I would try it. I am a senior citizen and have been to pt before and didn’t get very much relief. But Dr. Brian did a great job. I am pain free and would recommend him to anybody who needs physical therapy.

Fantastic experience: After another knee injury I was heading toward knee replacement. Instead of using my orthopedics pt persons I went with Dr Andrew. Big Win. Over the last several months my knee/leg strength has improved significantly. The pain I was having is gone. All that remains is normal muscle ache from the workouts. I am able to move/function better than I have in years doing simpler exercises with less weight than I had been using. Fantastic experience: Andrew is one of the best Dr I have seen for any type of muscular or joint pain. He takes the time to truly understand your pain, what movements trigger it, and accurately give you a diagnostic. From there, he works with you to design the right series of workouts to strengthen around the root cause and eliminate the pain. For me it just took a few weeks to get rid of my months long pain.
