Garrison Family Medical Group: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Deb Rice is a phenomenal PCM. I feel heard and cared about when I leave. Her nurse Monica..amazing. They are both caring and responsive even when you're crying because you feel like you can't get your life together.
Negative experience: I used to love this place but I will no longer recommend them. I went to urgent care back in March when I was sick and was told I had high blood pressure and he tried to put me on meds instantly (normally, this is something that is monitored before meds are recommended.) It turns out I was severely dehydrated from being sick. The second time I went, I was in severe pain for over a week. I told the doctor it started at the same time as my period and she instantly told me I was constipated and to go home and drink Magnesium Citrate. Zero exams or tests were done while I was in the office. She completely ignored all of my symptoms and concerns. Well, I ended up in the hospital having emergency surgery due to a 7cm cyst on my ovary that burst, and I almost bled out. I was not constipated. I will no longer use Garrison as my primary doctor or urgent care.
Negative experience: Dr. Garrison is very unprofessional. His staff scheduled a telehealth appointment without any other option to me. I waited the entire day to hear from him and at the end of the day he had a staff member call and ask why I wouldn't come in to see him. I explained I was not given the option. I was then told either I come in immediately or I could not be seen. I would have come in earlier when I had the time if I was told to do so but to demand I drop everything to come in when I was waiting all day is outright ridiculous.
Negative experience: Tried to make an urgent appointment for my father, but they weren't able to accommodate us and recommended being seen at the urgent care, knowing what my father's specific symptoms were (SOB, cough...he's a smoker too). Upon arrival, we were informed that "as of yesterday" they are only seeing people with c/o cough/SOB via telemedicine appt. The integral part of a pulmonary status exam is auscultation of the lungs...when I queried as to how they proposed to auscultate his lungs via telemetry, they of course had no answer, because you CAN'T. They then made excuses that because THEY [the clinic staff] have been getting sick, they're taking these precautions. If the staff aren't healthy, that's their issue, they could have the patients wear a mask to prevent droplet spread or wear N95 masks themselves. Perhaps they keep getting sick because they have poor hygienic practices or their obesity is making them prone to illness. At any rate, what's the point of running an urgent care if you refuse to see routine types of cases? Absolutely ridiculous! I ended up taking him to Quick Urgent Care on 30th W/Ave L...Dr Kour was prompt, thorough, and even did manual percussion of his chest and abdomen. As a nurse, I haven't seen a doctor do percussion on a patient in over 25 yrs! Very pleased with the care we received there.
Negative experience: I wouldn't recommend this doctor's office if you have any symptoms they will not see you at the urgent Care. What is the point of having an office if you won't see your patients?
Negative experience: I don’t even know why this place calls themselves an urgent care. If you have any of these symptoms, don’t waste your time going there: cough, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath, congestion, fever. This urgent care will send you away if you have one of these symptoms and they want you to schedule a phone appointment. I guess they don’t understand what “urgent care” means. Unbelievable!
Negative experience: I went to urgent care because I had been sick with stomach flu for 2 days. I come to the door to find out if you have stomach symptoms you can't go in but must make an appointment for telehealth. I made the appointment and waited for 5hrs to get a phone. I never received a phone call. I went to another urgent care. They first tell you to give them a 1-2 hr grace period. When I call again they said that it wasactually 3-4 grace petiod.. no transparency with their Patients.
Negative experience: I have never had such a bad experience with a provider. I have been going to doctors for 50 years and I do not believe what has occurred at this location and our healthcare system. I am a 60+ person who has been having tightness in my chest and chest pains, but because this is an "all encompassing" symptom of COVID I was sent home for a virtual appointment. What happened to treating the sick. I had been quite happy with Garrison to this point but we need to stop treating COVID like leprosy and get back to treating people like we used to.
Negative experience: if I could leave no stars... if only. My girlfriend has had the most difficult time getting a simple refill for albuterol. First, constantly being placed on a hold only to get a voicemail and a very lacking of a sense of urgency when getting a call back for those concerns, and then completely disregarding other symptoms and just giving an initial diagnosis. Truly, an awful experience.
Negative experience: Went to GFMG Urgent Care because I had been having upper abdominal / stomach pain. Right away the MA asks for a urine sample. (I wasn’t sure why he asked for that before I had even seen Sarah (NP) and because I KNEW I didn’t have an UTI – no symptoms of that). Anyhow, I gave a urine sample, saw Sarah (she said I didn’t have a UTI) and she ordered tests to check for diverticulitis. On my way out, I happen to look at the Encounter/Superbill form and I see that the MA did a pregnancy test! Ok, so 1) HE didn’t ask me if I were or could be pregnant before running the test, 2) He didn’t tell me they were running a pregnancy test 3) Sarah didn’t order a pregnancy test. When I brought that up to him, he said they ALWAYS run pregnancy tests when they do urinalysis. (That makes absolutely no sense!) Then I proceeded to tell him I am unable to get pregnant because my husband is sterile which he then announces to the people in the back. What happened to PII and HIPAA rules?!?!? I did not need the other people back there knowing my business. Then Sophia the billing person tells me that they don’t charge ANY insurances for ANY urine tests on ANYBODY. (Make note of that people!) However, it still doesn’t explain why they ran a pregnancy test without asking my permission first or without letting me know about it! I wouldn’t have known had I not looked at the superbill. (FOLKS IF YOU GO TO GARRISON’S LOOK AT THE SUPERBILL BEFORE YOU LEAVE!) Lastly, they then tried to tell me the reason they ran a pregnancy test (again even though my husband is sterile) was because they NEED to before doing X-rays or ultrasounds. They DID NOT do an X-ray or an ultrasound! I don’t know what’s going on with this place – they used to be good now they seem to be doing a lot of things that make no sense and giving bogus excuses. I am furious that they ran a pregnancy test without my permission, knowledge, or doctor’s order. And, I felt HUMILATED that all of this was discussed in front of the whole crew working there. Also, Sarah told me to make an appointment to come back however, they were trying to tell me I need to come back to urgent care – just so you know – they bill at a higher rate when you go through urgent care rather than an office visit hence the push to go through Urgent Care.
Negative experience: Pointless as an urgent care as they refuse to see anyone wow has a fever that is over 100. Simple ear infection and they won’t see my kid because of the low grade fever. Even when there is a negative COVID test. Pointless facility. Why exist if you won’t actually see patients??
Fantastic experience: Dr Garrison is my go-to doctor for my general exams.
Negative experience: Great service, but terrible wait times. I had an appointment and still had to wait to be seen for an hour in a half today, 4/26/2022. Again....great service, but terrible wait times. Here I am waiting for over an hour an a half again when I came in 15 minutes early for my scheduled appointment. Still haven't been seen, 3/16/2023
Fantastic experience: My whole family sees 3 different Nurse Practitioners in the office and we love every one of them. They have gone out of their way several times to make sure we were well taken care of. I would recommend this office to anyone and everyone.
Negative experience: It was easy to get an appointment and the staff was very friendly. However the doctor was quite incompetent and made a blatantly false diagnosis after I went there with sporadic chest pain. We went through all kinds of tests, including blood samples, x-ray, ECG and ultrasound but the doctor appeared very insecure throughout the entire procedure. A follow-up visit at the cardiologist revealed that the diagnosis I got at garrison family medical centre lacked any substantiation.
Fantastic experience: I went to urgent care , there was a short wait the got right in . Every one was very nice and professional. I would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and fast service! Everyon was so nice and polite and showed compassion.
Fantastic experience: Clean, friendly staff, organized and very nice experience.
Fantastic experience: They are probably the best clinic caregivers I have ever had! Jennifer & Debbie are professional but warm & caring, and will go out if their way to care for you. Dr. Garrison saw me in the hospital, and I can assure you, that meant so much to me. Have recently moved, and cried when I left. You are in GOOD hands with this group !!
Negative experience: Called to make an appointment with Mrs. Wade. I talked with Ashley the receptionist. She was very rude putting me on hold before I could finish explaining to her what I needed from Mrs Wade. After three times of trying to explain myself she transferred me to the office manager’s voicemail. I called back and she either hung up or the line was disconnected. I called back a third time she put me on hold and when she answered I ask a simple question and she started the conversation very rudely. I had to be the professional one in the situation and talked to her calmly so I could get some service. This is the third time I’ve had a bad experience at this medical office. (first time with Ashley) Will never go here again. Go at your own risk. All I’m saying is expect this kind of treatment from them.
Fantastic experience: The staff is friendly and the Doctors make you feel relaxed.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love it here. The lady at the front desk is way kind! Sweetest ever! The nurses are always nice and caring. Love it
Negative experience: My first impression of this place is absolutely awful. I had an appointment, filled out the new patient packet at home and brought it with me, AND showed up 20 minutes early. Despite all of this, I waited a hour just to get called in to have my vitals done! I think this is preposterous, considered they only take PPO insurance and I have an appointment. I’ve now been waiting to see the PA for 30 minutes with no status update. Not a great way to make a first impression on a new patient.
Fantastic experience: I went in because I thought I had the flu. They quickly diagnosed and sent in the scripts to get me on the road to recovery. Wait times were the same as you’d expect at any doctor’s office. The staff was super pleasant and at least grinned at my awful jokes.
Negative experience: Started getting random (unsolicited) text messages from this place and I don't even live in CA. When I called they wanted me to give my date is birth because apparently they have no way of knowing who they sent a message to. This must be some bogus place.
Fantastic experience: Excellent treatment from the attending physician. Great staff and the Doctor's diagnosis was right on the mark. Thank you, I am so grateful.
Fantastic experience: We saw dr. Cota twice I the Urgent Care. We are very thankful for his diagnosis. He requested blood and urine test for my husband. Dr. Cota follows up and sent my husband to the best urologist at City of Hope. Thanks to dr. Cota my husband will have necessary surgery done fast. His professional approach will safe my husband life.
Fantastic experience: I was very blessed to see Dr. Cato on 1/18/2020 when my wife gave me the ultimatum that I was either going to Urgent Care or a Hospital. Dr Cato quickly diagnosed my very serious issue and administered multiple IVs and medication to bring my condition under control before releasing me with prescribed medication. Over the past two weeks I have received texts on 9 different occasions and 3 phone calls from Dr Cato (and 1 from Dr Garrison) checking on my progress. I am so impressed by the level of care and concern. Awesome experience.
Negative experience: I felt as if this staff is very bias against people of color. My opinion!!!
Fantastic experience: Tiffany Tanner was excellent diagnosing "pink eye" I caught from my granddaughter. Tiffany prescribed Polytrim eye drops. Polytrim cleared my eyes in three days. Short wait at Garrison Urgent care completely resolved my issue.
Fantastic experience: The staff was friendly and professional. Dr. Cota knew I had the flu . Doctor was Very professional. Will definitely recommend Garrison Family Medical Group
Fantastic experience: Was quick for a walk in and doc was very detail and professional. Even thoughtout a fist pump. :)
Fantastic experience: Perfect experience from the moment I parked to the moment I left. Loved everything.
Fantastic experience: The staff is friendly and attentive and knowledgeable. The physician assistant that assisted me was very knowledgeable and what my ailments were and quickly diagnosed what I needed to do in order to get better.
Positive experience: I have very mixed feelings about this place. Some of the practitioners are very good, but some just seem to want you out of there and are willing to diagnose you with just about anything. This place is a hit or miss. I was told by one practitioner that I have scabies but I went back again and saw a new person and it was only eczema.
Fantastic experience: Tiffany Tanner, MMS, PA-C, spent the time needed with me to thoroughly understand what my problem was, and was knowledgeable about resolving it. She is an excellent PA!
Positive experience: Long wait
Fantastic experience: I was a walk-in for Urgent Care. I had a short wait both in the waiting room and the examineing room. I saw Tiffany Tanner, P.A. She was very thorough in her examination of me. She called in my prescriptions to my pharmacy and they were ready for pickup thirty minutes later. I have been going to Garrison Medical Group since 1989.. They have always had.such a friendly, competent staff.
Fantastic experience: great service, in n out quickly, doctor was very personable, would definitely go back
Fantastic experience: Always a pleasure utilizing the services at Garrison’s urgent care. The staff are knowledgeable, effective, courteous and professional.
Fantastic experience: My favorite Medical Office and urgent Care. The staff is professional, kind, and actually remembers my name ! I highly recommend..
Fantastic experience: Tiffany Was Very Caring... My Daughter Was With Me And Thought She Was Very Smart And Nice... Even Though It Was Urgent Care, The Experience Was A Good One...
Negative experience: They charged me $110 dollars just to tell me to go to another doctor! Waste of time and money. Still have yet to get a call back from the 'manager' that I was told would contact me. If I have to file a complaint higher up I will. This place is full of people who are more concerned about talking to each other about what they had for lunch rather then doing their job.
Fantastic experience: I go here every time i'm something is wrong and everyone there is super nice and understanding. I have never had a bad experience there.
Fantastic experience: Staff and doctors are awesome.
Fantastic experience: Swift and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Sara is the best! There isn’t anyone better a bedside manner.
Fantastic experience: Always get seen in a very timely manner and all the providers are great.
Fantastic experience: Everyone is always friendly and all the drs are great
Fantastic experience: This is in regards to Anthony Barrera, our staff did all we could do for you as proper protocol for Patient Care, Please feel free to call me so we can discuss your concerns my extension here is #211
Negative experience: On Monday I went to this particular urgent Care and I was given specific instructions to do specific test well upon my competition I figured that they would be able to contact the urgent care and advise them of the findings, 45 minutes later and an extremely dissappointed but angry expression the receptionist comes out hands me the results and says for me to contact them tomorrow, wow what a joke it's not like I am on the countys bill I pay for my insurance and yet I still was treated like I wasn't that important so if you ask me I would not tell my friends about this place I wouldn't even tell people I didn't like about this place who in the world would want to be treated this way and pay for it on top of that this place sucks big time
Fantastic experience: Highly expert facility! Dr. Buffman could not be surpassed in knowledge, compassion, wisdom and care!!!
Fantastic experience: Dr. Buffman was very professional and actually took the time to explain the medical reason I was there. I did not feel rushed and allowed for my husband to ask questions. A real stand up doctor. I will definitely go back to him and my husband also made an appointment to see him. I will be recommending him to family and friends.
Fantastic experience: In the past I did write a negative review and yes I was very upset. But in reality, Dr Garrison is a stand up Doctor who really took care of my husband, He made sure to look after him when he was in the hospital and after. Always a friendly smile and professional. Now I do feel that some his front office staff can use some people skills and training and yes Dr Garrison is ultimately responsible for that. But He also has an Office Manager that should be taking care of that since Dr Garrison is treating his patents. Bottom line is Dr Garrison is an awesome Doctor and my husband is very confident in him. Sarah his NP also rocks. Just do something about your office staff. They are sending your patents to other doctors.
Negative experience: Had an appointment and waited over an hour 20 minutes to be seen. I realized this isn't the first or even second time I've felt this was too long before I walked out but def the last. I was asked if I had a question as I left.
Negative experience: I recently was gospitalized for chrinic Hypertension at Pal.dale Regional med center. This was the High Blood pressur that DR Garrison and his half witted staff was supposed to help control. While in the hospital, Garrison sends a kidney Doctor in to see me and that Dr says my kidneys are low functioning but i dont need Diayalisis yet. The next day im on Diayalisis, sick as a dog my heart now skipping beats i loose 51 LBS in 2 weeks. And liok like a plucked chicken. Cime to find out my prosyate is enlarged and is the root of my kidney problem. But hey their not worrid about that. The Garrison wants me to see a cardiologist who just happens to be in the same medical group and puts STAT on the papper work. That was over a month ago. Then I get sick and go to the ER where they do an exstensive blood worup on me and they ask. Why are you on Diayalisis. Your bloid work contradicts that. And your extremely dehydrated. Well that because at Diayalisis they remove all my water. Come to find out, all these doctors are lining each others pockets by bouncing me around to their partners. They dont communicate with you and really could care a less about your illness. You are a dillar sign and no more. Let your friends and family know. Oh and dont get me started on the horribal urgent care quality. Your better off at an ER. Because your going to whined up there anywY.
Negative experience: Nice personnel, but made me wait an hour and a half.... very frustrating.
Fantastic experience: Doctor Garrison is the best doctor that I ever had and his staff are always on top of everything.. They are simply the best in town .
Negative experience: Very disappointed with urgent care. I literally waited in the waiting room for 1:30 minutes then I was stuck in a room for almost 1 hour. I will never go to urgent care again!
Negative experience: Do not go here if value your health. Went to Urgent Care for right pain under rid cage on a Saturday. Nothing was done, but a ultrasound was ordered and blood work. Had those done on Tuesday because of holiday and pain was worsening. Called Wednesday morning and got a same day appointment. Went to my appointment with Tiffany and she comes in to read my ultrasound sound report and the first thing she says is your Gallbladder looks fine. I had my Gallbladder taken out over ten years ago!!!! She gets flustered and leaves to go talk to the radiologist and never returns, her Nurse came in to send me to have a stat CT. By the time that is all done the office is closed. So another night in pain and no answer. Will be going to the ER so I can get answers. Do Not go here!!! I work in a medical area and will be telling everyone of this experience.
Negative experience: this place is a scam ! i went in for lip injections and they totally ruined me ! and they said it was because i was dehydrated is what caused me to get lumps on my lips ! BULLLLSHHH***T ! they just didnt want to fix what they had done mind you i did not pay a small amount i paid a pretty penny ! never come here ever !!!
Fantastic experience: Garrison Family Medical Group is full of hard-working, skilled, and kind staff! But what do I know.... I'm biased ;)
Fantastic experience: Dr. Garrison took care of me when I was in the hospital for over a month. Most of that time I was in critical condition on life support. I'm told by my family that he or his trusted MD partner saw me everyday. Now I'm here to tell you that you can trust Dr. Garrison with your life. He made sure that only the best doctors were involved in my care. I am an RN with 25 years of experience and my mom is an RN with over 30 years of experience. We know a good doctor when we see one. At first, my husband and my mother were in tears, thinking that I would die. My case looked hopeless, but somehow with excellent care and oversight, I actually survived. Dr. Garrison didn't give up on me and now I'm at home, safe and alive. May God bless him. I appreciate life more now. Thanks for saving me, Dr. G.
Negative experience: X-ray was quick waiting for Doctor was just over 1hr 56min still waiting. Just crazy time waiting, hope to get something for time waiting. Not happy
Fantastic experience: My neighbor recommended Garrison to me and I will recommend him to anyone that asks.
Positive experience: I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading. I've only had one bad experience in the office and that was with one of their administrative personnel. I've been going to Dr. Garrison's office for years for many different medical needs. I'm treated with professionalism and courtesy and my needs are handled timely. Maybe people are just being unreasonable. I don't know, but I love this place and would highly recommend to anyone...
Fantastic experience: I love this Drs office, Garrison is a great doctor, I drive all the way from Victorville just so I can see Garrison I would recommend anyone to this practice
Negative experience: Garrison has very few people there that actually help you with the reason you go in. I never get any information on my issue when I go in. It's a waste of time to even do urgent care. Go somewhere else.
Fantastic experience: I've been a patient of Dr. Garrison almost 11 years he always gives me ample time to express all of my concerns and addresses them in a way that I can comprehend she always offers more than one solution. I love the fact that he has an x-ray machine available right there in the office which makes it very convenient to get quick results on injuries that are needing immediate attention. I've watched as Dr. Garrison's office has grown from one location tiniest in the small town of Acton to what I would call an Empire of a complete complex including five two-story office I've never left his office feeling unsure or unsatisfied in any way he is not only a doctor but he has become a confidant a therapist and a guru if you ask me he has gotten me through some of the hardest times in life and made me always see the brighter side of a sad situation looking for great doctor I would have to highly highly recommend Dr. Garrison would satisfy what you're looking for. I will admit there are times where there is a long wait to get in to see him however that's only because he has so many devoted patients that appreciate his expertise and I'm willing to wait to see him he often double books to be sure that his patient gets seen when they need to be yes it may take a moment to get face-to-face with him but when you do I find that I get much relief with all the information and knowledge that he has to share with me on my concerns. Dr. Garrison keep up the great work and I'll keep up spreading the word thanks again for being my doctor.. N*N* C******♡
Negative experience: Would have rated lower if possible. Nearly killed my daughter by treating her with medication she was allergic to. After 4 days in his care, she was required to be airlifted to children's hospital, where they cancelled every medication/treatment he treated her with. If you value the health of yourself and family, find another doctor.
Negative experience: Garrison and staff was my mother in laws doctor for several years. Although some of the staff were good I was never overly impressed. I would not choose Garrison to be my doctor.
Positive experience: I only give them 3 stars because I love their laser hair removal. Other than that, they have been the worst people to go through for regular check ups and for my diabetes. I have been trying to get a prescription refilled with them for a month now. Not only can I not get ahold of ANYBODY in their prescription office, but the doctor that I saw last time refused to write up individual prescriptions for my sister and I so, not only are we sharing insulin, but I have had to completely cut any form of carbohydrates out of my diet until my appointment in order to ration my insulin. Oh, and get this, when I scheduled an appointment, they said the soonest they could get me in was a month later. I'm going nuts here.
Fantastic experience: To Adam Carpenter,Sorry to hear about your physical, Dr. Garrison likes to ask patients about their families, this is a great way for him to get to know his patients better. Sometimes patients hate to go to the doctor and small talk is encouraged to relieve anxiety. Dr. Garrison asks about race to rule out hereditary issues such as RA and other autoimmune disease which are ordered in blood work. As for the I&D incision and drainage we, do them in our office, but you must follow up with another appointment, since insurances will only take care of one thing per visit. Dr. Garrison did not want you to pay out of pocket for something that your insurance will take care of at a future visit. Sorry for any misunderstanding, we hope you will follow up with us.
Negative experience: If I could give a negative star I would. This place is horrible, they are crooks. Save yourself some trouble and see another doctors office.
Negative experience: Urgent Care suite is straight ghetto!!! I was so treated badly but, never again. They will not help you, just waste your time and steel your money. Why Mr. Garrison hired GHETTO trash I do not know.
Negative experience: I highly dislike this office. Been going here for years. I recently went out of work on disability and it's been 3 weeks and I still cannot get Debra Rice or anyone from medical records to turn in my paperwork for.my short term disability. Debra's nurse Stacy is one of the rudest people I've ever encountered and Debra is always trying to shove pills down my throat. I'm done with them.
Fantastic experience: Excellent health care. Clever and kind staff
Fantastic experience: I just love Debra Rice, she is amazing, kind and very knowledgeable with women's issues. She has been a great support and understanding of my approach to health and living. She is a great coach too to help you get back on your feet. I highly recommend.
Negative experience: Can't believe it ..... My dealings was with Christine from urgent care , I wish I would of taken my granddaughter elsewhere . A long story , don't care to waste anymore of my time telling it !
Negative experience: Stay away from Garrison Medical Group Urgent Care. I had a horrible infection and needed care for it. Went to the urgent care and was seen by CHRISTINE COLLINS, NP-C. Explained to her that the antibiotics make me extremely nauseous, give me crippling heart burn, etc. I explained that the last several times i wasn't able to work while on these antibiotics. my job is a physically demanding job. She assured me ill be ok and prescribed me anti nausea and pro-biotics. I went to work trusting the meds the very next day and violently threw up was sent home. My manager asked that i get a note to clear me while i fight the infection. This simple task had never been an issue from every other urgent care or drs office ive been to. Called morning and night and GARRISON URGENT CARE staff kept transferring me to the nurse's VM. called daily and was told that nurse wont be back until Tuesday. When we called back Tuesday the nurse would not speak to us, secretary kept stating we had to come back in and be re-evaluated for the note (an additional $249.00 for the note). We were given the run around for six days and left several voicemails without a single response. CHRISTINE COLLINS is a horrible diagnostician, the pharmacist even advised me to not fill the nausea meds and that they would be useless in this instance. I trusted her and purchased anyway (waste of money). Overall it was the coldest experience I have ever gone through. I promise you will REGRET your visit.
Fantastic experience: My Family and I love Garrison Family Medical, We have been coming here for about 4 years now. We appreciate the care we receive.
Fantastic experience: Dr, Garrison and his staff are amazing, so kind and understanding. I would recommend him in a heart beat!
Fantastic experience: Dr. Garrison has a great office. The urgent care is a nice way to get immediate access to his office without an appointment. Great staff. Good enough that I sent my mother in law! Full service facility with X-Ray. They are new modern doctors, working with vitamins and herbs as well as traditional medicine.
Fantastic experience: Not only great doctors, but the best, most polite front office ever.
