Fantastic experience: I was referred to Idaho BMI, and Dr. Brown. First, I looked the website up and watched the introduction video, then I started listening to the blogs, and I liked what I was hearing, so I called and made an appointment. I first saw Dr. Brown in January 2024. Dr. Brown explained everything to me, plus made sure I was a candidate for the program. Dr. Brown was very easy to talk too, and very informative, and I was ready to move forward. I had appointments made for the next three months (90) days which are insurance requirements. Over this time, I kept watching the blogs learning more & more. My surgery for Gastric Sleeve was scheduled for 6/11/24. I was ready to do everything that was asked of me plus some. I did go back to work 6 days after my procedure (after thought, would recommend taking at least a couple of weeks off). Everything went great with the fasting before and after. Had a little bit of a tough time once it came time to start eating, but soon realized this is part of the process also. Fast forward, I am now 6 months out 12/11/24), am down right at 100lbs (crazy I know), but more importantly is the amazing progress I am making with "food". I literally chew each bite 25 times and count those chews, and I use my sand timer and wait 2 minutes between bites (two most important components), and I am truly amazed with how good things are. I do not want the things I wanted prior to this procedure, which was my biggest hope. I work in a retail environment and our customers bring lots of "things in for us", donuts, cookies, etc. I can honestly say, not one thing calls out to me. That was what I was truly hoping for. Dr. Brown and Kate, etc. were right, you believe and practice what they ask (specifically these 2 things), diligently, and you will change the makeup in the brain in regard to the food center stomach connection. I'm a believer, and I would and do recommend Idaho BMI and Dr. Brown to anyone looking for true help with this battle. Absolutely Amazing

Fantastic experience: Dr. Brown and his team are so caring and understanding. They explain everything thoroughly and made sure i didn't have any questions. My appointments were quick and efficient with information and checked in with my progress that I was making. The staff was supportive and they were available when I needed them for questions and concerns. My surgery was explained to me and on the day of surgery it was quick and I was grateful that everything went so well. The nice thing about Dr. Brown was he was also able to do my gall bladder surgery and he was able to use my existing scars so that I didn't have to get new ones. Thank you so much for your kindness and for helping me understand my issues and the reasons why I was so overweight. Thank you for giving me my life back. I will forever be grateful to you and your staff.

Fantastic experience: The team at Idaho BMI is amazing! I have a multitude of health problems and things seemed to be just getting worse. I contemplated the surgery for a couple of years, but it wasn't until I did my research and had my initial consultation with Dr Brown that I finally had some hope again. This hope led me down a path to not only losing weight, but gaining my overall health back which includes body, mind and spirit. I am still on my path to recovery, but with the dedicated staff, unfailing support from both team and clients and the abundance of knowledge that Dr Brown continues to research and maintain with current medical issues, treatments, conditions, etc. It has been such a blessing and I have to say the biggest life saving measure in my life. He works collaboratively with your team of doctors but does not hesitate to give his opinion in a kind and supportive manner, yet you are always in control of the decision making of your care and well being. It is important I believe for this process that patients own their care of their bodies; it is not something that is said or told you should do. It is something that is taught and that is priceless. More physicians should strive to practice like this and more patients should be so fortunate to receive this kind of care.

Fantastic experience: “Best decision I have ever made!” I did a lot of research for a couple of months before deciding to have my gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Brown at Idaho BMI. I want to start off by saying all of the office staff are so pleasant and accommodating that I look forward to my appointments. After my consultation with Dr. Brown, I knew I had made the right decision. He is kind, very knowledgeable and interested in what you have to say. He wants you to ask questions and he wants to make sure that you understand the process. There are videos to watch And lots of information that helps you get through your journey. If you follow the plan, I guarantee you will be so happy with all that you accomplish for yourself. I am 75 years old and seven months pre-op and so many wonderful things have changed for me. My walking, my stamina, my sleep (I average and an hour and a half more a night of sleep) my body aches, I use to take three Ibuprofen every single day. I take nothing now. My outlook on life. I want to do so much more and I feel good doing it, and to be perfectly honest my self-esteem is so much better. We all know how we feel about ourselves, uncomfortable a lot of the time. I hope this helps somebody that’s on the fence trying to decide what to do. If you’re serious about getting your health back don’t wait. Do your research and you decide.

Fantastic experience: Dr Brown and Kate are super amazing !! I had trouble loosing weight and I decided to come to see these two and got approved first time ever having surgery went thru it in May weighing 260 and now it's July. My birthday is the 1st of Aug. I feel great and I'm right at 200 lbs granted the eating is a struggle but in time I will eat better. Never felt greater then ever. Thank you Idaho BMI and dr Brown and Kate. You guys are amazing.

Fantastic experience: I'm a year post-op, and I haven't felt happier in my own body. I look on the outside how I feel on the inside. Everything is easier. I feel fantastic. I've lost and maintained about a 100 lb loss and met both my weight goals. Zero regret. I only wish I did this sooner. The monthly support group meetings have been extremely helpful, too. Plus I've made friends!

Fantastic experience: I was asked to leave a review. I have not really thought about my experience, however, I have been to one of Dr. Browns informational meetings at St. Als years ago. But at the time my insurance would not cover it. So I did not pursue the surgery as I could not afford it. So in May of 2023 I looked into it again. Dr. Brown was in a different clinic. Once again Insurance would not pay for it and I was miserable. I have been really struggling with my weight going up and down but the ups were more than the downs. I was 323 lbs at 5'8' at 49 yrs old, and completely miserable. I was having difficulting walking and in pain all the time. My mobility was really affecting my life. Being active took a lot of planning as to if I could even do it. Walking the grocery store was an issue. They had CareCredit, so I applied and was accepted(you can also pay for the surgery in payments and once you reach the surgery cost you can get it done, i believe). The cost of surgery was very reasonable compared to other options. I made my appointment and found it very enlightening. I decided it was worth the cost. I had the VSG in June 2023, passing all my test. A little over a year out I have passed my 'honeymoon' period and could not be happier. I have lost as of today a total of 136 lbs. My feet no long hurt, and the pain is gone. I have started working out to maintain what I paid for. I am very very glad that I decided to invest in myself. All the staff, support staff, and Dr. Brown have been nothing but supportive in my journey. It was the best decision I have ever made. No it is up to me to continue to be successful. Negative experience: I had a mixed experience at Idaho BMI. Setting up an appointment was easy, and the office itself was pleasant. However, my initial positive impression was marred by a highly unprofessional incident. After my initial weigh-in and consultation about pursuing bariatric surgery, the medical assistant (MA) left the room and closed the door. Shockingly, I could hear her through the closed door mockingly discussing my reasons for surgery. It was deeply upsetting to hear her imitate my concerns in a derogatory manner and criticize my weight and age. To my dismay, I also heard her sharing these comments with other staff members, who joined in with laughter. I know she was talking about me because she referred to me by name. Thankfully, my consultation with the doctor was positive, but I was too embarrassed to mention the incident until I spoke with the financial staff. She assured me they would address the issue with the MA, but I felt compelled to share my experience here. Using personal details like my full name and my reasons for pursuing medical care shared in a confidential setting with individuals not directly part of my care team seems like a clear violation of patient privacy (HIPAA), and it left me feeling humiliated. I hope sharing this review helps others be cautious and avoid the embarrassment I endured. Medical professionalism should never be compromised in such a manner.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous experience with every part of Idaho BMI. The entire staff (Dr Brown, the receptionists, nurses, business office, etc) have been great to work with. They answer all questions in a straight forward easy to understand way. They are responsive and always professional. The support groups hosted by the clinic staff, at no extra cost, is definitely a plus. I recommend a consultation for anyone thinking of surgery (or like me who had previously decided no way). Learning if Dr Brown and team are right for you is a smart move. And I certainly recommend them.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Brown's approach to bariatric surgery is unlike anything I've ever encountered. The reprogramming of your brain completely changes the way we think about food and obesity. The staff is warm, compassionate, kind, knowledgable, and innovative. I would recommend Idaho BMI and Dr. Brown to anyone and everyone I know!

Since my insurance won't pay and I'm out of options cause the new weightloss shots don't seem to work for me I'm rolling the dice and heading to Mexico for surgery. I so didn't want to but I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. If your reading this I would highly recommend Idaho BMI. Good luck with your journey.

Negative experience: Sent aunt home after surgery before medication wore off, later the same day of surgery, aunt was rushed to er, surgeon didn’t answer calls, aunt died from internal bleeding from the surgery. Hospital denies any wrong doing. Have been in contact with a lawyer who says he just got a call about the exact same circumstance with the exact same doctor.

I was given, in great detail, the steps as they would come along the way, and was given multiple opportunities to ask questions or for clarifying information. Fantastic experience: Dr. Brown is amazing! I had the sleeve 11 years ago by a different dr, and now that I visited Dr. Brown, I learned so much from him about brain/gut connection that was never taught to me by my surgeon...

Negative experience: This is Edward's wife Stacy. One star for a clean environment and his awesome MA. If you have the right insurance, your experience will probably be better, but if NOT.........I had a consult today with Dr. Brown and It felt like a bait and switch. They took my insurance information 2 weeks before the consult and had time to check if Bariatric surgery was a covered benefit. They had to have know it was a restriction for my insurance BEFORE I came in. They even have an option of their website that says, "FREE insurance check" that when you click on it takes you to a request for a consult. A free insurance check would have included a simple phone call or text before the appointment to see if I still wanted to do the consult. It would have been the right thing to do considering that the consult is $200 dollars if your insurance doesn't cover Bariatrics. They don't tell you this before you come, but put it in the bottom of a stack of paperwork that you can't get to until you are already in the room doing an intake with the MA. Then, the doctor comes in and basically tells me if I don't do the surgery I will NEVER be able to lose weight and keep it off because Bariatrics is the ONLY way to rest the Vegas nerve and brain. He claimed to be the only Dr. that knows this is the REAL reason for weight issues. Then tells me his plan for keeping the weight off after surgery is to eat a Keto diet and only 8 ounces of food once a day. So, Keto, OMAD diet for the rest of your life. Which, people do successfully all the time without VSG or GB and keep the weight off. After my appointment the doctor takes me to billing where I am finally told about my insurance. They let me know that if I had my hiatal hernia surgery at the same time (which is usual and customary and medically necessary for me) that I would have to pay out of pocket for that too, since Dr. Brown's surgery center does not do separate billing for these two surgeries or doesn't bill both cash pay and insurance. Then, I was told that the $14,500 would need to be paid in one lump sum on the day of the surgery. Their website says they have flexible finance options which to most people means payments plans are available. Finally, I was told I could see a Nutritionist and be put on Dr. Brown's eating plan. Which makes no sense, since he just got finished telling me it was a waste of time to try diet and exercise. Bottom line, you are paying $200 bucks for a weight loss specialist to tell you you have no hope of change unless you do a surgery you can't afford and go home without hope and $200 poorer.

Fantastic experience: Dr Brown and his staff are absolutely amazing. I was terrified going in to this process but after speaking with the doctor and and some of his staff.. I feel confident, ready and so excited for the next step! Highly recommend a consultation in you're considering weight loss surgery. Dr Brown and his staff will teach you so much; they make it make sense, they break it down, they make it easy.

Fantastic experience: Dr Brown did my surgery in September of 2022 I went from 330 to 250 in 7 months best thing I ever did still trying to get to 220 but I've a couple surgerys I think it's slowing me down

Fantastic experience: Having gone thru a gastric bypass in 2006, I went to this facility to see about a revision. The staff and Dr Brown are just amazing. The technology and info is so much more detailed than 2006. Anyone with interest in weight loss surgery I HIGHLY recommend this facility. All your questions will be answered. I will be going back for nutritional counseling and help.

I have a lot more questions that I'd like to ask, but feel that rewatching the videos & joining their FB group might help a lot w/ this. :) I will update the review as time goes on w/ ID BMI. ♡

Fantastic experience: What a great experience. Dr. Brown is an absolute wealth of knowledge and experience in his field. His staff is friendly, and their on-site surgical center is excellent. My ongoing support feels custom tailored and with perspective to my unique circumstances. His staffing helped me whenever I had any questions or concerns, and was always friendly. (Shout-outs to Kate, Chanel, and Hannah) The support groups help to not feel alone or isolated in the process as well, and it's great hearing everyone else's success stories. My procedure and aftercare have both gone completely without a hitch, and I have zero complaints. Additionally, Dr. Brown's podcast is an amazing resource regardless of where you are in the process, and was great in assisting me in feeling comfortable with my decision to proceed with this path before my procedure!

Fantastic experience: Beautiful facility - front desk person was so polite and friendly - all staff was very nice - I was very anxious and the doctor and staff made me feel calm and told me it was normal for the first visit.

Negative experience: Terrible experience. Building doesn’t have their sign, is terribly confusing to get to, takes forever to get an appointment and staff is awful. Edited to Add 2/20/2023: Noticed the owner's response. The claims I was ever disrespectful to their staff is only adding insult to what was already a stressful experience. As for the missed appointments, I only ever recall asking to reschedule one because of COVID, and was lost in their parking lot this last time. It's entirely possible I'd missed another prior, but regardless, I was in no way disrespectful towards their staff. They said they had to cancel this appointment because I was fifteen minutes late, despite being in the parking lot trying to find them. (Maps had sent me to the residential houses down the street - not their fault - and then to St. Luke's - also not their fault, though the lack of clear signage in their own parking lot certainly is.)

Fantastic experience: Great doctors and nurses. The new building is fantastic too! Have lost 200 pounds since my surgery and am feeling so much healthier! The doctors care and help when ever needed. I am so very thankful for their skill and compassion!

Negative experience: I found the service to be the Spirt Airlines of Dr's offices in the field. They will get you there, but I needed a shower after talking to the billing office every time. The price I paid outy of pocket was over by over 20% from what I was quoted. I just reciverd bills for office visits while I was out of state. Billed for a meal kit even though I am 6 months post op and have no reason to have a meal kit. Dr. Brown did a good job, but no training of how to do the liquid diet from the office, no idea how to eat one meal a day when you have taken away 80% on my stomach. He didn't treat the hernia while he was taking care of the rest of the organ. If I was to do it again I would go to Mexico and they will do it for 1/3 the price.

Fantastic experience: Met Dr Brown at my first consultation. The staff were fantastic when I arrived. They got me into a room really quick and had a very informative conversation with Dr Brown. I'm really looking forward to going on this journey with Idaho BMI.

Positive experience: The good: they were super kind and informative. They were able to get me in promptly and I feel confident that I will be on the surgery schedule soon. Dr. Brown seems ready and willing to help, he seems in it for the long haul, not just to get the surgery done and the insurance money pocketed. It sounds like he’s opening up his own surgical center within a month or so and will still be able to do procedures despite other healthcare centers putting non-urgent procedures on hold due to the pandemic numbers! The concerning: they do have sales for bundles of protein shakes and vitamins. There seemed to be a little bit of miscommunication and they didn’t realize I had already been working with another doctor/clinic and had done the work for my insurance to approve it all. They require payment ($25) for submitting FMLA paperwork. Not a single person was wearing a mask, nor did any of them offer to wear one despite me wearing one and me mentioning I have an immunocompromised child who is too young to get vaccinated yet. I asked the Dr. and he assured me that he both had COVID prior to the vaccine becoming available and that he is now fully vaccinated. Overall, my assumption is that people in this area could care less about masks or COVID protocols, but this certainly was unnerving for me. If I weren’t so frustrated with having worked toward this for the last 8 months, I’d likely look for another clinic, but they seem eager to help; they have the resources to make it happen, and I’m willing to give them a chance since it’s really me who will lose out in the long run if I choose to walk away from a future that will be healthier.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I was very impressed with Dr. Brown's initial consultation. He was very informative and explained his procedures in great detail.

Fantastic experience: Had surgery feb 18, 2021. Gastric sleeve. 6 months later I am down 65 pounds. No more diabetes medicine, no cholesterol medicine, no cpap machine. Can't believe I am now wearing size 4. Healthy eating. This has changed so many things and I am doing what I can to stick with it forever.

Fantastic experience: When you have educated yourself about the Sleeve procedure and you think you know most of it, Dr Brown shakes your foundation and blows your mind even more! So very excited about what happens next! The Journey has begun!!

Fantastic experience: I’m not going to say the Doctor looks like he could be Clark Kent’s hot dad, that would just be so unprofessional of me as a local business owner myself but I will say he is knowledgeable, informative and has a plethora of resources to help you along your journey. I just listened to his podcast brain over belly and it has confirmed for me even more so that I should get a revision surgery from my vsg to rny. The staff at this office all look like they could be on an episode of Greys anatomy, like seriously they look amazing and so far have been helpful. I’m hoping that my insurance will allow for this and if so I’m going to update this review with a social media handle dedicated strictly to this surgery that will take you along with me during pre op and post op. Will keep you all posted!

Fantastic experience: UPDATE— Dr Brown called got me in as soon as he could. I had my first appointment with him. He is kind, understanding, and very informative! I’m excited to continue a journey with him! *****I have yet to see a dr. Had an appointment scheduled that they rescheduled for me after it was booked months in advance never actually confirming with me the change. Claimed to have left a voicemail when I done have a voicemail box. Then saying oh maybe it was an email, but showing no proof of email either. So now I get to wait a month and a half for an appointment.

Fantastic experience: Dr Brown and his staff where very friendly and knowledgeable. Dr Brown was very patient with all our questions. Staff has been kind and prompt with information and Insurance details.

Fantastic experience: I was having pain in my upper right quadrant of my abdomen and suspected it was my gallbladder. I schedule an appointment to see Dr. Brown who recommended a HIDA Scan to be certain. The scan indicated that my gallbladder emptied slowly (10%) and was subsequently diagnosed with cholecystitis. Dr. Brown performed Cholecystectomy at TVH within a few days. I was great working with Dr. Brown and his staff. I found them to helpful and responsive. I would recommend this office to anyone looking advice and procedure relating to your gallbladder.

Fantastic experience: The good: Every single staff member is incredibly kind and thoughtful. I’ve never once felt judged or ashamed. Each person I’ve come in contact with has been encouraging and uplifting. I had the gastric sleeve and have lost weight. So... it works. I appreciate that extra emphasis on lifestyle changes provided at Idaho BMI. The areas for improvement: The office is busy so in terms of insurance requirements and approval... do your own foot work. Make sure you understand the insurance requirements (visits, weight loss required etc) so your not caught off guard at the end.

Fantastic experience: I had sleeve surgery on 10/19/2020 and am so happy that I did it. I am still losing and I feel so much better. Dr Brown and his staff were so great. I see them every month as a follow up and they are almost like family now. If you're considering weight loss surgery but have fears I suggest you make an appointment and talk to Dr Brown to see what your options are.

Fantastic experience: From my first appointment I was seen, heard, and given credit for my life experience and understanding of my own body. The chemistry of our bodies and our brain is complicated. Idaho BMI has a modern philosophy that cures you. I'm confident in my choice to have WLS. Dr. Brown is an expert surgeon and bariatric specialist. Im so thankful to be on this journey.

Positive experience: I got a lot of good information about what the process and surgery would be like. They said a nurse would call with more details. I do wish everything was up front. However, I am not impressed with Dr. Brown's view on the covid 19 virus and how careless he acted regarding masks and his conspiracy around it. These were literally his first words to me. Not professional. Made me think he isn't a reliable doctor. What else does he not take seriously? UPDATE FROM COMMENT BELOW: Saying that you believe the virus has long been gone is not spreading anything but false information. I made up my mind from that comment I wouldn't continue with the process. How is that professional? My boss just had it, way to undermine what we've been working so hard to defeat. This is a medical facility. How does wearing a mask harm anyone? You know how we get to hope and normalcy? Doing our part by wearing a mask and not spreading false information, especially in a medical facility.

Fantastic experience: Great Doctor & Staff. Dr. Brown takes the time to review your case in detail and come up with a plan to work with you and determine which surgery would be in your best interest. Everything is explained in detail and all the tests you need are scheduled by their staff. I highly recommend him.

Fantastic experience: I came in so scared and terrified. Dr Brown and his associates were so kind and friendly. While I only had just a consolation most my fears were calmed and dissapated. Getting the real facts about my obesity and options (so not as scary as I thought) gave me so much relief. So glad I went in.

Fantastic experience: Dr Brown and his staff are fantastic. My wife and I recently went through his program for the bariatric weight loss surgery. He took the time to explain to us all the steps thoroughly and made sure that we were both comfortable with it. My wife has gone through several other programs for weight loss and no doctor was ever like Dr Brown. He takes the time to explain that it's more than just the surgery it's about changing your lifestyle and to rethink why we eat.was it we have already recommended to several our friends that struggle with weight to go see Dr Brown.

Fantastic experience: Totally Surprised!!! I was expecting a very clinical and starched atmosphere when I arrived for my consulting appointment. The two people upfront greeted me with smiles and made me feel welcomed and not alienated. When I was escorted to a private room, I was put at ease and answered some questions before Dr. Brown came in which was a short two minutes. He explained and answered all my questions.
