Our comment from Nutrifinder.net about Meritus Medical Center:

Meritus Medical Center offers a mix of experiences for patients. Many users have praised the hospital's nursing staff and doctors for their kindness, professionalism, and compassionate care during high-stress situations, particularly in the Emergency Room and for surgical procedures. Several reviews highlight exceptional experiences during childbirth and crisis situations, noting advanced technology and clean facilities. Customers appreciated the attentiveness of individuals like Nurse Susie and the surgical staff, who played crucial roles in patient care.

However, Meritus Medical Center has faced significant criticism, particularly for long wait times in the emergency department, sometimes exceeding several hours. Many patients reported feeling neglected, especially during moments of acute pain or medical urgency. There are constant mentions of staff being busy or disengaged, which has led to feelings of frustration among patients waiting for care. Others mentioned poor communication and a lack of follow-up for their medical needs, leading to serious concerns about patient safety.

Overall, Meritus Medical Center shows a commitment to providing quality care, particularly in their ER and surgical departments. Nevertheless, consistent improvement in wait times and patient communication is needed to enhance the experience for all visitors.

Negative experience: Sat here for five hours after being told they would give me my x-ray results in 30 mins.

Fantastic experience: I went there for the delivery of my child and the experience was amazing. The L&D nurses were kind, patient, attentive, accommodating. The facilities were clean, technology was more advanced than I expected -- there was an iPad in my room that I used to check on my own labs and notes from the doctors. I could also order food with the iPad. The food was decent, and there were options for vegetarians. All of the staff were respectful and polite. I'm impressed with the hospital, you can tell thought went into the establishment so that patients would have a good experience.

Negative experience: We chose this hospital to have our child at heard good things nursing staff and doctors were very polite and caring but I’ve never been treated like a child by security my first pass through was fine we got setup in the labor room I stepped out for a little bit to grab some things when I came back with my name tag that showed I was already here I passed by the first time the skinny old guy with glasses said I have to go through the metal detector no problem sorry I go through he just stares at me I walk away he says what do you have in your pockets you have to wait in line for one of the officers to check you you can’t just walk through, I shake my head and he says now that you have a understanding how things work you can’t go. I mange a restaurant and deal with customers service if I heard any of my workers treat my customers that chose my establishment I would fire them on the spot don’t treat people that chose your hospital like children and have a attitude I’m fine with finding a new hospital for our medical needs due to MR.thinks he is a officer when he is a security guard

Negative experience: This is the absolute worst hospital I ever been to in my life and I had honestly forgotten until today just exactly why I never go there. I come to the ER in clear as day excruciating pain. There’s some serious pain in my groin and hip flexor area. I left work at lunch under the instruction of my supervisor to get medical attention, because everyone at work could see me there barely able to even walk. I’m asked to wait in the lobby on some hard ass chair with an injured hip!!!! Are you kidding me?.. The excruciating pain that I was already experiencing multiplied by the uncomfortable ass chair I sat in 4 hours because my only alternative was to stand or leave, developed into a migraine and I was beginning to feel blurred vision. I requested an approximation and was told that “All I can tell you is the longest wait has been 5 hours.”. This shit is ridiculous. I left and drove an hour to Germantown Adventist Healthcare and they took me into the back within 10 minutes, like a real hospital. This staff does not seem to care about the people suffering in their lobby at all this is a failure of an Emergency Room. How do they get away with this?.. Is the standard really that low?.. Something needs to seriously be done immediately!!

Fantastic experience: I was in the hospital for a week for pain management then back surgery. The staffing here from the doctors, nurses , Cna to the cleaning crew and nutrition department, everyone was amazing! I couldn’t have asked for better care. I could really tell they cared about me and wanted to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Well done Meritus, well done

Negative experience: The ER has the slowest shitiest service I have ever experience, there is no reason I sit for 4 hours in excruicating pain, people coming in and out after me while i still sit and watched grown men act like babies just to get pulled to the front of the line, this is crazy, THEY NEED TO RE STAFF AND TRAIN EVERYONE.

Fantastic experience: I was there October 2-3 2024 for gastric sleeve surgery, and the entire women and pediatric staff was absolutely wonderful. So nice, helpful and supportive. My doctor Dr. Jamal did an amazing job! My nurse Kara was an absolute angel! I did not feel rushed to get out of the hospital in any way, I know they do that to people sometimes. Everything was very clean. My Mom stayed with me, and they were very nice to her. Always asking her if she needed anything. My family has had pretty bad experiences with meritus in the past, but I'd say in the past like 5 years it's definitely gotten a lot better.

Negative experience: Been for almost 5 hours (October 8-9, 2024). It is now almost 3 AM. My adult son is very sick and in lots of pain. No one can tell me when they will see him. The worst ER situation I have ever seen anywhere. Your code of honor states “everyone will be treated in a timely manner” what a joke. I’m sure the response to this will be “so sorry we will send this on to the appropriate parties” How about fix your ER nightmare. The same 20 people have been here for hours and no one is getting help. The management of this hospital should be ashamed for such poor care. I have received better care in 3rd world countries. If the staff has no intention on helping anyone at least tell us to go home instead leaving everyone sick and helpless sitting in the waiting room…. Let me now add to this review. We have been sitting here for 6 hours and no one has helped us. This is criminal. No one has offered an explanation as to why. Never have I seen such horrible service and care. I’ve never left a review like this but after sitting here all night I am being kind. Do not come here, especially if you are sick. Go to a real ER. UPDATE it is now 5 AM. We have been here since around 10:30. Multiple people have been called back but not us. When I asked why I was told they are waiting for a room to come open so they can consult. Pretty sure my son has a UTI. Consult what? I think if someone came in and shot me right now they would tell me it would be a few hours. Unless you have a night to waste and want to sit around with sick people I would not come here. This seems like a bad dream. The worst. Shame on you all. UPDATE TWO it took 11 hours before they gave my son pain meds. He has a sizable kidney stone. He was in terrible pain ALL NIGHT LONG. Most ridiculous and inexcusable care for a medical facility. Negative experience: You know things are rough when the hospital tells you that you need to pay a deposit to be seen and then they try to play auction with you...got $100 got $50. My husband is limping and in pain, your not giving service due to this. We said we are able to pay Thursday. What a terrible hospital. Hagerstown do better

Negative experience: The only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is because there’s a really nice nurse here named Ginger. She is so sweet and so human. She cares. I’ve been here for 7 hours in an unthinkable amount of pain and they don’t care. I haven’t even made it to the back yet. 7 hours in the lobby. I don’t understand. You could literally be on fire and they’d still tell you have a seat. I will NEVER come back here again. UPDATE: after 12 hours I’m finally home. I wanted to come back and share that my entire experience shifted with the actual ER RN & DR. Ryan, James Joseph PA and RN Mikaela (spelling) were INCREDIBLE. They realized the severeness of my pain and acted quickly to treat me. They joked and laughed with me and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. It’s nice to know there are still medical professionals that truly care. If there is any surveys or a way for them to be recognized for their kindness and care please let me know. They deserve it! If you’re reading this… thanks so much. And to the DR… if you’re single let me know, you are SOOOOO handsome and I’m sorry we had to meet on these terms

Negative experience: Been sitting at this hospital for 5 damn hrs. They took 2 viles of blood and did one ultrasound after having to demand one. They still don't know what's wrong with my daughter but "everything looks good follow up with a specialist " puking blood, in a tremendous amount of pain but everything's fine. Bet they charge my insurance thousands and best believe if someone else finds something these morons didn't, i will be filing a lawsuit! Negative experience: I just attempted to get my medical records only to find out they had been destroyed. I understand not keeping them for hundreds of years but I'm only 50. They could have made digital copies of space was an issue. I really needed those records and now a whole piece of my life has just been erased and I'll never have the answers I need. Glad I don't even have to deal with this place in person.

Negative experience: I’m here with my daughter in severe abdominal pain and I’ve been here over five hours. I have witnessed others and two laying on the floor and absolutely nothing being done. This has been the worst experience as a mom. Moving from Frederick MD and never having to experience anything like this makes me sick to my stomach. If I have known I would have took the risk of going to another ER. My baby has a history of blood clots and her health is not taken seriously. I will NEVER recommend coming here. I’m beyond nervous for my child and this entire room. So sad to live in a world like this. If it wasn’t for HIPPA laws I would be taking pictures. I have to give one star in order to post but it’s not even worth that!! I guess becoming the doors are open to come in

Negative experience: Was abused and talked about behind my back while in the psyche ward, absolutely no compassion for me when I was at my mental and emotional lowest point. Personal facilities were awful. My peers were mostly bullies. Technicians were also bullies, even the chaplain acted nice to my face but wrote horrible things about me in the medical notes that I guess they thought I'd never read. They helped me with medication and getting back on track, yes, but I never felt safe or valued there.

Negative experience: Wife had her first birth here because she was hesitant to go for a birthing center on her first go around. Most of the nurses were understanding, caring, and patient, but one of them was downright evil towards her and myself for challenging her authority. We made it clear from the outset that we wanted to keep the placenta, and when this nurse felt like her authority was being challenged she made the next 8 hours a living hell for us. She tried to keep my wife's mother out of the room, she withheld skin to skin contact immediately after the emergency c-section, and she was loud and seemed to repeatedly wake up our newborn after nearly 24 hours of back labor and a c-section. Meritus's billing office charged thousands of dollars to our newborn as well. So we got hit with a double deductible cap because they charged both my wife and newborn sky high amounts separately. Nightmare of an experience. Will not be going back for our second.

Negative experience: This review is solely based off of my experience today, none of the countless other bad experiences I've had here. There's 3-4 people in the waiting room. It's 12:14 pm. The security guard that greeted us was kind and respectful. It's once we made it to the main ER desk that things went downhill. The nurse who was taking my husband's info was rude and snappy. I was standing about 2ft. Behind my husband on a phone call with my boss at work. The second security guard rudely interrupted my conversation to rush me into getting a visitor pass. Unprofessional. I looked at him with what I guess was a stunned look because the nurse taking my husband's info snapped to the security guards defense and rudely stated "you need to get a badge made" as if I didn't understand that part. My confusion came from him rudely interrupting my call as if he was rushing me to get ish done. As we approached the room to get vitals done both nurses stared me down (super uncomfortable) and let me walk all the way to the door before telling me "you wait out there he'll be right back, promise" the disrespect and lack of people skills were on full display. I'll never understand people who get in a field dedicated to caring for people and act like this. It's disgraceful this is who meritus chooses to hire. They ALL need to be retrained!!!! I can't help but wonder how they treat other people!!!!!

Negative experience: My Husband had a seizure this morning, this has never happened. Wasn’t sure if it was a stroke or heart attack. Triage acted quickly and professionally. We get back into a room and the male nurse kept pushing the issue of drug use! “This will stay between us, did you experiment with anything”. Are you crazy! Do your job grab a urine sample if that was the case. Do better. Not everyone in the area are junkies. On top of it all; all the nurses do is sit behind the nurses desk laughing on their phones. The ED gives this hospital a horrific reputation. Revamp the management of the ED and I’m sure you’ll see much better results from patient care. The PEDS unit is always on point to say the least.

Negative experience: Checking in, going into surgery, recovery room was all good until I was admitted to the 2East area of the hospital. Nurses seemed very confused, i only got to experience the day shift nurses for about 2 hours before the shift changed but they seemed really nice and kind. The night staff, nurse name Steph, who didn’t even introduce her self to me to my husband, was horrible. 1:15am when I needed my pain meds, she refused to give me my pain meds telling me she didn’t think I needed any pain meds since I wasn’t crawled up and crying in pain. She was going to change my pain meds, when I stood up for myself she told me she refuses to take care of me and she doesn’t feel comfortable taking care of me. So, another nurse was assigned to me who actually was very caring, attentive and took care of me. My first ever bad experience with a nurse in a hospital. I’ve had number of surgeries done in many different hospitals, so I have had my share of experience with nurses and I was very blessed in the past.

Fantastic experience: I was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023. Went through 2 out patient surgeries to get samples of the tumor and see if it had spread. September 2023 I underwent major section of left lung removal. On every visit the staff to preoperative nurses were more than great. Sheri and Michelle in preoperative kept me calm and cared for me like I was family. I have terrible needle phobia and together they put iv in my hand and I never felt it. They are the best. On the lung removal surgery day,,my surgeon Dr mark Sullivan was with me till the anesthesia hit . He is the best of the best. Operating room nurses and many others assisting were outstanding. As much as I was terrified that I wouldn't survive the surgery they treated as if it were them laying on that surgery table. After waking up from the surgery and being in the icu for many days the nurses were,, not even a scale to rate them,, they were with me constantly watching me and taking 100 percent charge of my condition. After few days moved to critical care and believe it was called 4 east. Those nurses knowing I scared I was with what I went through in surgery stayed by me 24/7 . From the head nurse to the aides, etc etc were the best in my time of post surgery. There is not even a scale to rate these people. Shift changes and nurse changes every couple days new nurses knew everything to take care of me . I think it was 4 east, but anyway these people I want to thank for your compassionate care . Special thanks to Dr Mark Sullivan surgeon. He would be there checking on me 11pm Saturday or Sunday,, he is the best. It all starts from the signing in desk to be admitted, which is truly great. Then the prep nurses Sheri and Michelle that make it easier. Just the whole system and people are overwhelming and compassionate which helps when going through a major surgery as I did. Thank God for them , Donald schildtknecht

Negative experience: This is absolutely the worst ER to end up in ever. Do Not come here for any reason, you won't be seen. I came in an ambulance from work, I'm still waiting to be seen over 4 hours later. I will never consent to being brought here again no matter what is going on.

Negative experience: My wife (who is self employed and 'does not' have Ins.) was taken by ambulance to Meritus on Saturday 4/20 with severe abdominal pain and blood in her stools. The ER did a sonogram and found she has Colitus, Diverticulitis and a small GI bleed. She had an IV put in her but was never given fluids or any medication. She was released and told to quote "see a GI Dr. as soon as possible". You release a patient with a GI bleed and tell her to see a GI dr. ASAP really! Doesn't Mertitus employ GI doctors? I feel she was released because she doesn't have Ins. What a sad state of affairs if this is true! I know you will 'look into it' and find everything was done according, but I just want people to know what they might deal with at Meritus Medical Center if you don't have Ins.

Negative experience: I'm really disgusted with Meritus. The wait times are awful even if your cardiac patient with chest pain. But the last straw was on Monday. Monday my grandfather went in by ambulance with severe leg pain. To the point he could not sit, could hardly stand or walk. Laying down was the only way he was in the least amount of pain. He was still however made to wait 4 hours with agonizing pain. He was doing some heavy lifting gardening 2 days prior. He was in pain that night that he did the gardening. He never left bedroom / bathroom the day after as he was in so much pain. The ER gave him a muscle relaxer, and pain medication. The first pain medication didn't help. The second thing they gave him was morphine. The morphine made him sleepy, which made pain tolerable. I asked the ER if they were going to imaging to his back or knee (which he was complaining of severe pain, which is the same knee he fell on a few years ago and ripped ever tendon out of the knee). The nurse said they were not doing imaging as a Xray and CT scan is all they could do. And that wasn't going to help identify the issue. She said he would need to see a pain specialist, and go thru 6 weeks of therapy before the insurance will authorize a MRI. which is what she said he needed. They game him the morphine, sent over a order of flexeril and Percocet. Mind you they never asked which pharmacy we wanted them sent to. I asked the nurse if he could get medication to take home to get him over night. It was about 643pm at this time. I was 40 mins from his normal pharmacy. And they closed at 7pm. So he had no medication for the night. And the hospital would not send any home or any to the meritus pharmacy for him to have for overnight. I was livid! The morphine wore off around 1am. And he was back in miserable pain. Mind you this was Monday when we were in the hospital. Tuesday he saw his family dr. They were very surprised that the ER did not do Xray or CT. So they ordered a xray. The pain specialist called tuesday to setup a dr appointment but first availability was June 17th. My grandfather flipped. The pain specialist said the orders from hospital weren't sent over as Stat orders. But yet the man can't do anything but lay in bed because the pain being so great. We were on the family Dr when this phone calls came in. The family Dr heard the conversation. And mind you 10 mins later that apt was bumped to April 25th. The Meritus ER hospital is nearly worthless. If you get admitted there is alot of nice staff. The Percocet that the er send also was only enough for 1.25 days. Which was a disgrace with what pain he was going thru. Fast forward 4 days. The man was in agonizing pain still, no pain medication was touching his pain. He had called the Dr's and they sent in a half a dozen things to try. He went to the hospital again today. But this time went to waynesboro hospital. Waynesboro in less then 30 mins of check in had orders for a CT scan. Was able to determine a degenerative disease. Did blood work, got him on morphine, found his blood pressure to be 193/91. Which was awful for him. They even admitted him to the hospital just hours later. This is what meritus should have done to begin with. Waynesboro even have orders for a MRI Tomorrow which meritus said they couldnt do because of his insurance requiring 6 weeks of Physical therapy. I knew he wasn't going to make it thru one day of physical therapy. He was in to much pain and couldnt sit. Do your selfs a favor and go to Waynesboro, Chambersburg or frederick or mercy hospital before going to meritus. If Waynesboro finds the problem and determines that meritus should have found the problem. I beleive this case would be a good one for Patient Neglect and medical malpractice. But yet many if not all of the lawsuits that happen against meritus never go anywhere. Because of the wording of the documents you sign. Stay away from the meritus hospital ER and do your self a favor

Negative experience: Save your money if you have to go to the rheumatologist Dr. Okoye. She acts more like a nurse then a doctor. If you don't remember every little symptom you may have had she gets quickly annoyed and an gets attitude. Asked if there were other test since my ana test came back positive. She said there is no need. They could be false positives without even running another test to make sure. She had me do the same blood work that my family doctor already did that had nothing to do with autoimmune disease And then said I'd have to ask my family doctor other questions i had. Seems everything you ask her is not her area of expertise. Waste of time and money

Fantastic experience: We have been to meritus on numerous occasions. Tonight 2/20 was one of the best experiences we have had. Nurse Susie deserves a shout out. She treated our one year old daughter like she has been doing it for years or like she was her own family member. She gave her a new friend to take home with her. Please extend our warmest thanks to Nurse Susie and I hope she knows how much we appreciated her.

Negative experience: I went to the hospital with a simple cough and was detained for 6 hours. I later discovered that the room was $308 with hospital fees, and the bill was $817 with $23 for the radiology 840$ department. They trade patients for money. I do not recommend this placeIs this reasonable? I will be there at 8am. The doctor will come at 1.30pm. This is for the room fee of $308. You will be detained.

Fantastic experience: I was admitted after an emergency room evaluation, and although there was a bit of a wait, all my staff were stellar, top-notch, A1! All kind, welcoming, professional, knowledgeable, and they took care of me with such care. The bedside manner from the nurses (both Mikayla, Michelle, and every nurse whose name slips my mind rn) was awesome. My team of surgery doctors (The Boss-Dr. Sam, the students, and Dr. Shultz) were Da Dietary staff Victor/Rhonda made sure I had something that fit my new diet, and although it took a little bit longer because I called late, I am extremely thankful. The aids, transport & surgery staff, ultrasound/MRI/CT staff, and housekeeping worked together to make sure no patient felt alone nor uninformed. They made sure that I had everything I needed down to coordinate with other departments and even located a cell phone charging cords, lol. I just want to say thank you to Meritus staff for going above and beyond at a time when I may have not been the nicest, and it most certainly was not my prettiest moment. I can tell that the Sunday/Holiday staff love their jobs, the love coming to work, and also working that good OT. Just wanted to give them their Kudos/compliments prior to discharge so I don't forget or get sidetracked. I wanted them to know immediately that they are really appreciated.

Negative experience: This is nothing on the nursing staff. They did what they could do. But this is the hospital itself. I was in the ER for over 12 hours. Came in at 11:30pm and was told people were waiting for over 7 plus hours. I should've left then, but I was in so much pain with a kidney stone I thought then I might pass out. So i waited hoping since it was ghe middle of the night it would clear. I've been here before and its happened. I had hoped at least would get meds. Nope. Got blood work and CT. At CT at 2am the nurse at CT thought it might be infection and i also did more bloodwork. Hense i was still in the waiting room waiting for a bed. Sooo I waited... Aand waited till 9am for a chair!!! Never got meds, fuilds. I get there were lack of beds and lots of sickness when I was there, but there needs to be a way to help people in the waiting room especially when ur able to do tests. Which when I was there in 2020 for the same thing you waited till u were in a room. But no one and i mean no one should be waiting over 8 hours in a waiting room. Then sitting just 3 hours in the room to wait for a doctor. (The doctor didnt even review the blood work or test before seeeing me, so time lost there)

Negative experience: This was a terrible experience. I had at Meritus . I came to be seen because I was vomiting and in terrible pain . I was dehydrated and couldn’t go to the bathroom . So as I was having a fever and sleep Z. Nurse Brianna came in a snatched my ivy out my arm and. I told her that I wasn’t feeling well and that I need to see if I’m have a uti. She said I refused to take my urine . And told me to look at it on my chart . The second nurse I had her name was desire . Now she was nice until she told me she ask me if I was feeling better . I was full sleep . This is the worse hospital. The nurse have no respect for clients . And so I was put into another room . And untended . I approach a nurse and asked her if I can be attended to . And with out her asking my name she assumes she knew who I was . With out asking me . Giving off her face expression and body language . I already was talked about among staff. But I will be reporting this and possible filing a law suit against the hospital and the three nurses that was aiding me .

Negative experience: Went in for kidneys stones. Waited 7 hours for them to send me home with a prescription although all the stores were closed. When I mentioned they needed to give me something for overnight. They seemed irritated and I had to wait another hour. Once they did arrive and gave me an oral medicine It was completely ineffective and I was sent home in agony I was unable to sleep and was vomiting all night. They did not meet my needs whatsoever. And the fact they sent me home without medicine for that night is incredibly disappointing.

Negative experience: The ER staff were wonderful. Everything after that was awful. My 83 year old mother went in for a compound break of her leg. Had surgery and was put into ICU. Nurses treated her like an annoyance. No one ever returned calls, I had to call back or my mom would call me in the middle of the night saying she couldn't get a nurse to come when she pushed the call button. Once she was moved to a regular room it got worse. She was unable to get up to use the bathroom because she only has use of one leg. Nurses told her to "go" in the bed and they would take care if it. She would ring for a nurse to clean her up and was often laying there for hours, to the point where she got a rash. I witnessed this while I was visiting. I was told someone will be right there. The nurses station was right outside the room, I could see them sitting there. It got to a point where she was laying there so long she ended up calling 911 and the police showed up. My mom was told by the head nurse that she would probably have charges brought against her for using the emergency number in a non emergency. When it was time to have her moved to a rehab facility closer to home (Chambersburg) I was called and asked where we wanted her sent. I gave our top 3 choices. I was called and told that our first 2 choices would not accept her insurance or wouldn't return calls. So she's in a horrible place now which was the last choice. I'm trying to get her moved. I contacted our first choice and was answered right away, and was told that Meritus never even contacted them. So I was lied to outright.

Negative experience: This hospital is the worst I’ve seen. There is no compassion, no empathy. Everyone in the icu department should be fired. The icu department is full of inept doctors who are on an ego trip starting with their director pooran and some temp doc named basil. The poopran guy is very delusional and does nothing to actually help the patient. The basil guy thinks he knows it all, but fails to adequately address the patients needs. These two should not be doctors. It seems like these icu docs merely act like robots and do not understand that each patient is different and may not fall under the bell curve. They are too anxious to move patients down from icu to step down, even if the patient is not ready. There are a few nurses who care but a lot of them show no empathy toward the patient and do more harm than good. They are merely there to collect their paycheck. They cannot handle the workload given to them, even though they only have at the most 2 patients. They have no patience when addressing the patients needs, cleaning, etc. There also was this large respiratory nurse that likes to bend peoples arms in ways they cannot go and attempt ABGs on them, even when hearing nothing significant on the Doppler. She seems very clueless and should be fired. Lastly. even as a patient is coding and the different teams rush to the area, there was a group of individuals making weird jokes and laughing even as patient’s family members are in front of them as the code is being run. If you care for your loved ones, take them elsewhere. In all realty, this hospital should be shut down.

Negative experience: This place is a joke!!! I'm sitting in the waiting room right now with severe back pain. People who came long after me are already being seen in the observation area (in the back). While I sit here squirming in pain right in front of them. When I said something to the nurse she s see. aid "well, we see different people here for all kinds of things.. If they should be in need first, then they will be priority". And she walked away.

Negative experience: Admitted after hip operation. 3 days after surgery discussing rehab facilities for next day. Specifically ask if heart good since have afib. Daughter was told all was good with heartt but needed hip rehab. Within 2 to 3 hrs after that informed needed a pacemaker. Main hospital Dr and nurse knew NOTHING ABOUT pacemaker. How do you go go from heart was good to pacemaker within 2 to 3 hrs. Cardiologist said heart pauses had been noted for several evenings but nothing told to me or family who definitely ask about heart bc of afib and believe change in heart med most likely caused fall.Husband &daughter after questioning Dr's was told 2 meds could try since family wanted to avoid unnecessary surgery, especially bc previous issues with annestica. by Friday dr definitely felt pacemaker not necessary Meds appeared to control. Also durinning Monday until Friday. daughter constantly told contradicting information by various people. Will say nurses and CNA's were very kind and caring. I believe communication within hospital is terrible. Feel overall incompetent especially from giving contradicting information regarding heart condition and pushing another surgery within a week when just trying change in heart med with constant monitoring proved pacemaker unnecessary just easier for Dr's to avoid tring tinkering with heart meds to see if able to find something that control afib plus heart pauses. My nurses and CNA's were very kind and caring would give them 5 stars. My issue's were with various Dr's and the contradicting information provided. Plus was told I could definitely read Dr's notes of hospital stay. Except none on my chart nor on IPad given. Definitely request IPad to review info on own. Truly doubt competency of hospital since given contradicting information constantly. Truly makes you wonder if they actually know what they were doing.

Fantastic experience: I'm probably a bit biased because the staff at Meritus ER saved my life. On May 22, 2021 I was brought into the ER with severe pain in my left hip, unable to move my entire leg. Dr. Mohammad Malik was on duty and ordered an abdominal CT scan. He diagnosed me quickly with a perforated colon and septic shock. I was delirious and don't remember much but my husband was standing in the hallway as they prepared me for flight to Shock Trauma and he said they were working diligently to get my blood pressure up and stabilize me for flight. Emergency surgery at Shock Trauma saved my life. Septic shock has a 40% mortality rate and if not for the quick thinking of Dr. Malik and the teamwork of Tommy from respiratory therapy and the flight nurses (wish my husband remembered their names), I wouldn't be here right now to write this review. I've faced a long road to recovery since then but I'm getting better and stronger with time. I was also admitted to Meritus shortly after returning home from my emergency surgery at Shock Trauma and orthopedic rehab at UMMC in Baltimore, with a post-op retroperitoneal abscess. The ER doctors once again were wonderful, especially because I was terrified after I almost died two months before, they took care and compassion and concern to the next level in dealing with me and reassuring me. They worked with my colorectal surgeon at Shock Trauma who saved my life, to get the right treatment plan and sent her the CT results to review as well. I was admitted for 8 days to drain the abscess from June 26, 2021 to July 3, 2021. The nurses on the unit were amazing, kind, attentive and advocated for me in every single way. The doctors visited daily and I was well cared for. Last August 2022, I was re-admitted to Meritus for a partial bowel obstruction brought on by adhesions from my previous surgeries the year before. My ER experience at that time was a little dicey, I was brought in by ambulance with severe, agonizing abdominal pain but it still took them almost 7 hours to do my CT scan and get me in a room this time. All Maryland hospital ERs at that time were overflowing, I'm not sure why, Covid wasn't as big an issue so it was probably due to staffing shortages. Once I was finally scanned and placed in a room in the ER the doctors and nurses tended to me almost immediately once they saw the obstruction, and I was admitted for 4 days for monitoring until it had passed. Luckily I didn't require more surgery. The nursing staff on the units once I was admitted were once again EXCEPTIONAL! Kind, caring, and we all enjoyed a good dose of humor and shared laughter. I was eager to be discharged and the wonderful nurses and the laughter helped my time go faster to get home again. Quality assurance did visit me as well to ask about the delay in my testing and treatment down in the ER the night before, since I had already had a history at the hospital of life threatening issues and severe gastrointestinal crisis. They conducted a thorough review to see where they could do better and I truly appreciated that, despite the agonizing pain I was in during my 7 hours waiting in the ER. Every year on my "Life Day" on May 22, I return to Meritus and my husband takes a photo of me standing by the ER sign to show my progress and how far I've come in my recovery since that dreadful day they had to fly me out of there to Baltimore in 2021. Thank you Meritus!

Negative experience: If I could it, I would rate -2 because they do not care about your well being and push you out so fast without a proper diagnosis. I had to bring my baby back multiple times for them to finally give the correct treatment. Ridiculous doctors who don't know what they are doing. I would rather travel to Frederick to get my baby seen.

Negative experience: Came in to visit my mother and upon getting nametag at desk the elderly lady servicing visitors, asked me to remove my mask. I'm immune compromised, thru Chemo, so I was dumbstruck by her request. If these elderly cannot hear properly then they should not be put into these areas. I spoke with a clear/firm tone, so not sure why she requested my mask be removed. Other security guard had no issue, day before, hearing me n he also wore a mask n I heard him clearly also. I just find it odd, a medical facility, that pushed the mask mandate is now asking people to remove them just to get a visitor pass. Please put people at desk who can hear properly.

Negative experience: Honestly I have been nothing but disappointed with the care from the nurses in Hi-C. We’ve been in several times for my son who has behavioral issues.. they are better with adults but have no idea how to deal with kids. They forget to medicate him with his daily meds! They never check in on him and any time I have a request for anything, they roll their eyes. Not happy that this is our only option in the area. Wish I had money to go somewhere else

Negative experience: I have been in and out of the hospital alot for a wide range of things from panic to copd and chf. Everytime I am admitted there's always an issue and I seem to always have to yell or demand answers to my questions and even then they still tell me only what they think I want to hear and not the truth. The Drs almost gave meds that I'm not supposed to have twice and they dont pay attention to histroy or allergic reactions. I had one can place the wrong name band on me and if the nurse did not catch it they would have given some other person my insulin that was not even diabetic. I requested a new Dr and was given in but later on found out that the 1st that I did not want to treat me was drilling doing so after I told the nurses that I did not feel safe I asked for patient advocate but was told no one was there.

Negative experience: I hate writing bad reviews, but this has become a bit too much. I came here by EMS at approx. 5pm on 5/8/23 and I am writing this at 1:10am on 5/9/23. I have been experiencing constant stomach pain and diarrhea that just became pure liquid and the staff here have not been helpful at all. I’ve watched people come in hours after me and get taken back, then get discharged not even an hour after being taken back. My stomach has been hurting me so much and the constant trips to the bathroom have not been helping. I don’t understand why Meritus makes people that have legitimate issues who are literally crying in pain wait so long while people who come in laughing, chatting and eating McDonald’s go back first and leave not too long after. I DON’T UNDERSTAND IT! And this isn’t something that just came on. I’ve been experiencing this for almost two weeks and it finally got worse! I would rather die than come back here ever again. You’d more than likely die waiting to be seen here.

We stayed there 3 hrs and all we were told by the doctor was that there is no cure for acovid and that they couldnt precribe anything for the symptoms and too stay home taking Tylenol, they would even offer a Covid test so We left and went to UniCare in Halfway area and there they did test us and prescribed meds for the symptoms and we even received a shot to take the pain away, needles to say MERITUS is no good and I will never ever take my family there..wasted 3 hrs at Meritus for nothing

Fantastic experience: Several weeks ago I had same-day surgery for double hernia @ Meritus Medical Center with their state-of-the-art robotic system. Everything went fine and everyone there was great and attentive to my needs and concerns. I was impressed. When reading reviews of any hospital keep in mind that terrible reviews are predominant because the fraction who had a bad experience are disproportionally likely to write a review. Most people are eager to forget about their hospital stay, which was probably unpleasant due to their condition even if they believe they received competent professional care. Each of several hospitals I have personal experience with, largely due to providing bedside assistance to friends and family, have tons of terrible reviews online (earning 3 stars overall at best) but that do not match the quality of care I observed firsthand. That's not to say the bad reviews are wrong, but that they are most assuredly not representative of the average experience.

Positive experience: Updating my review I posted previously. Came here to be induced with my second child. They did everything they could. My child was being difficult and I had to go into an emergency c section. All of the staff was attentive, patient and ontop of my care. Most importantly my child's paperwork was inputed correctly this time so I did not have any extra headaches to deal with when we got home. Food was OK. Don't get the meatloaf.

Fantastic experience: I had sever back/leg pain and went to the emergency room. The meds my pain dr was giving me hadn’t worked in a while and I was in tears and decided to go to ER for help. An employee pushed me in wheelchair to emergency room wo me asking (I went to front entrance, dah) seeing that I needed help. Once there I checked in and waited. It was 9:30. I only waited 30 min and got vitals taken then had to wait for a room to open. I got in within 30 min and was seen and given medication shortly thereafter. I had to wait to see if worked and, although still in pain, not stabbing unbearable pain. Told me couldn’t give me rx cause I was seeing pain dr and I had to get him to do this. My experience was great. Very clean, professional staff, not long wait. Ppl complain about this but they can’t control that—depends on getting ppl out so someone else can take room. I highly recommend!!

Negative experience: Awful, I set up an initial appt for a very specific reason. Stated this reason to the person who rescheduled my appt, repeated this when checking in and again during the appt. Freeman was about 30 mins late, had poor bedside manner, barely looked at me, and had me out in like 8 minutes. When I asked about the sole reason for the appt, She said it was no problem and would have my paperwork ready in 3 days. I called 2 weeks later and no one had any idea what I was taking about, It took another 2 calls over another 2 weeks to get a response from everyone BUT Freeman who stated that she would not complete my paperwork. Waste of time.

Negative experience: TODAY on 2-23-23 around 4:30pm found out most of his things was missing. When he was being released from the hospital. My nephew was admitted at this facility and when he was sick with tubes in his body. The medical staff stole his money out of his wallet and some of his important and expensive items in his bag. This is very sad that professionalism and respect along with integrity does not exist at that establishment. He is trying to recover from a lung collapse and laying down defenseless and now trying to speak up about his things not in the best mood but he is professionals. Incident occurred IN REAL TIME. Today 2-23-23. The medical staff did nothing at all to help and did not want to give a complaint number nor address. I WOULD GIVE NO STARS.

Negative experience: I personally would not go to this hospital. This is the only hospital I have been in Maryland that treated me like absolute trash. I was there for 3.5 hours and never got seen by any doctor. They took me in the back for me to sign some billing info and a nurse came to give me a test. I never got the results of the test and after I realized that the only reason why they took me to the back was to get me to sign the bill charging paperwork, I left. They don't care about people. They only care about the paycheck and that for everyone that i saw working there. Make the extra trip, if you care about your health, go to another hospital.

Fantastic experience: Spouse went here when was having a mental health crisis and had a week stay in the psychiatric department. It was a positive experience. They helped stabilize meds, had therapist/group sessions, family session therapy with me and visitor hours where I got to bring puzzles for us to do together. Staff was nice and treated her well.

Negative experience: My mom went there on black Friday because she couldn't see and was showing signs of a stroke... she was made to set in the ER waiting room. She waited for almost 3 hours. When they took her Into a room they found that she had a stroke and told her that they could have gave her a medicine if they would have caught it sooner. However to much time passed so the medicine would not have worked for her. They left her leave with blood pressures that were very very high 198/168 she should have NEVER BEEN ABLE TO LEAVE WITH PRESSURES THAT HIGH IT PUT HER AT RISK OF ANOTHER STROKE. LONG STORY short because of the wait and the messing around my mom is now blind in the right eye and in terrible shape so thanks meritus for your speedy response to this matter I will never recommend anyone there. your policies and procedures suck.

Negative experience: Not a baby friendly hospital. Had a horrible time in labor and delivery, very outdated and seem to push csections. Night Shift nurse Brooke was rude and felt like she came right off orientation. Dayshift and midwives were a little better.

Negative experience: My mom fell and broke her femur and was at Meritus for a week. Initially the doctor told her she had broke her hip…not her femur. The hospital was understaffed and always took a long time to respond if my mom needed anything. I asked a nurse to speak to a doctor about my mom’s diagnosis/condition and she acted like I was ridiculous for making such request and said “your mom is in here because she fell and hurt her hip”. Meritus also never scheduled my mom’s follow up appointment to have her staples removed. Just overall a poor experience.

Negative experience: My father was admitted for covid pneumonia. Specifically asked Dr if contagious. We were told he was not. Several days we were just admitted as regular visitors. Then given special gear(paper gown with slit up back, no feet , leg or hair covering) After in room for severaL hours someone asked us to put on gear which we did. Another day front desk provided no protective clothing. Which after a few hours in room was told we had to have protective gear. Front visitors log in once again had not provided. I requested my father be showered before coming home (twice on my chart) and directly to nurse via telephone the day of discharge. Nurse assured me Dad would be showered and ready to go within 30 to 45 minutes. When arrived 1 1/2 later still not showered. Wanted him showered there bc they have handicap showers with large shower chairs. Plus he was weak from pneumonia and on oxygen. Felt safer to have him shower there in case of problem. Nurse and assistant told floor nurse he refused. My father told me he was told they were too busy to shower him. He never denied a shower. Then contract nurse said he felt it was in dad's best interest to not be showered there. Funny since he was dad's nurse on a a Sunday and Specifically told me at 2 pm on discharge day that they would shower him I ended up helping father shower. I can't stand stand liars or incompetence. But he did have one nurse who actually seemed concerned. Others appeared to do minimal amount. To me if you go into nursing it should be because you have a desire to help people. If not, then maybe not best career choice. And surprisingly, most jobs are thankless.

Negative experience: I was in the ER yesterday for being Ill. They said they needed to get blood work and a chest x ray done. When the women called me back to get my blood work done I informed her that the last time I had blood work done they said I had weak veins. She barely spoke to me. After sticking and pulling out and re sticking about 5 times she moved to the other arm. I’m in the medical field and I’ve never had any issues with getting blood work done. For some reason after getting sticked multiple times and then starting on the opposite arm I felt extremely lightheaded and could barely hear. I said to her, “ I feel like I’m going to pass out.” All she said in return was well I can’t get a vein you can go back to the waiting room. I tried to stand up and walk and fell to the floor until someone asked if I was okay. I’ve never been more disappointed by a healthcare worker in my life. Her name is Hannah and she is a “phlebotomist” for the emergency department. Luckily I didn’t fully pass out and crack my skull open off of the floor.

Negative experience: Danielle, the nurse working today in same day surgery, should not be allowed to work with patients. As a rightfully upset, vulnerable, and in severe pain patient today I voiced my concerns to her in post op. I was not happy with my treating physician and in no way blamed the nurse but was explaining my situation. She walked away and loudly told the nursing station “who did you send me, she is so mean and is calling her doctor a sadist.” I don’t care if I called her a blue baboon the fact that she thinks it’s okay to loudly talk bad about her patients who are in post op is unforgivable and shows a flaw in her that makes her unfit for this position. The harm she did to me today is great and I hope no one else ever goes through that.

Negative experience: Wife went in with 2 positive COVID tests, was sent to waiting room for 9 hours, sent home without medication. Got worse, then told by primary care doctor that she would've been eligible for paxlovid. Her breathing keeps getting worse, so hopefully she'll make it through. Thanks for absolutely nothing, Meritus.

Negative experience: My husband went to hospital he mentioned that the staff were not friendly he said the doctor and one lady was decent that is the only reason a star was given which is crazy. The staff barely checked on him he had to unhook his monitor by himself to go to the bathroom.I even called to check on him and the staff never told him I had called .The staff were to occuppied with gossiping with other staff which is highly unprofessional. My husband said the lobby had alot of Latern Flys flying around. My husband said someone should go in their undercover to witness this poor excuse of a hospital.I am digusted with this hospital everyone I know avoids this place because of rude unprofessional staff and lack of professionlism and feeling safe with their health needs being met unfortunately this is the hospital for this area.I dont know who is in charge of this hospital but you need to clean house with some of your staff because its hurting your reputation.

Fantastic experience: My husband was recently a patient at Meritus. I can’t say enough good things about the facility and its staff. The intake personnel are knowledgeable. The nurses of Three East are efficient and tireless. Even the volunteers are well trained. I am proud that Hagerstown has such a great medical center.

Fantastic experience: My husband went in with excruciating stomach pain. They found out quickly that he had pancreatitis. They admitted him to 5 south. Stacy was his nurse (or CNA) 3 out of the 4 days he was there and she was amazing! The other staff was polite and super helpful as well. I wish I had gotten some of their names. I can not say enough good things about 5 south. Thank you for taking such good care of my husband when I was not able to do it myself.

Positive experience: Been in the waiting room for never 4 hours now. Granted it was full but they were making good time at first. Then its like the night shift came in and didn't care enough. It would be okay if I were not in intense pain. Then when people don't respond to their name they come out 4 more times calling for them. Obviously there issue isn't an emergency if they have to leave the waiting room to go smoke. . Edit. After my wait and getting finally seen it was quick and easy to get my issue taken care of. Will edit review next visit if it goes better.

Fantastic experience: My Dad, a 91 year old WV resident was transferred to Meritus from Jefferson Memorial in Charles Town this past Monday morning, after he suffered a heart attack and needed specialized care. When he arrived he was met by Cardiologist, Dr. Reddy and his intern. They immediately evaluated his case and prescribed a heart catherization which was performed by Dr. Zervi. Both physicians pinpointed the heart blockages and immediately recommended a double stint procedure. Because of the complexity and radical procedure needed, they recommended that he be transferred to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) in Baltimore. After meticulously discussing the situation with my Dad and me, Dr. Reddy immediately texted Dr. Chahal at UMMC and scheduled the transfer and procedure for the very next morning. I cannot thank the Meritus staff and Drs. Reddy and Zervi enoug! THEY WERE FANTASTIC! The compassion and care that we were given at Meritus is second to none! My heartfelt thanks goes out to ALL of the staff who assisted my Dad and were so kind to us!❤️

Negative experience: They literally made me drink water out of the bathroom sink!!!! these employees are something else. I was dehydrated and deal with severe anxiety and they told me I had to either wait, or leave. I pray I never have to come back here again. You can tell just by the taste of the water from the sink that it's not meant for human consumption. If I could rate Meritus at zero stars, I would.

Fantastic experience: What is everyone talking about here?! I went to the ER a couple of weeks ago for chest and back pain. I was seen right away. The nursing staff was quick and friendly. I received an EKG, CT Scan and an X-Ray while in ER. EVERYONE (aside from the young female registrar at ER who was somewhat curt and disconnected) was completely friendly and communicated the whole visit in a calm and professional manner. I ended up having to stay overnight so the Dr. could review another EKG and continue bloodwork, and I am telling you-from the staff at ER to the nurses on 4S and over to the nutritional staff that evaluated my diet needs and brought me a gluten free vegetarian meal I could actually enjoy, I was seriously impressed! I noticed that a lot of these negative reviews were also posted during the height of a global pandemic-where EVERY health care facility was stressed, experiencing staff shortages and dealing with the uncertainty of risking their own and their family's health and safety to care for those visiting healthcare facilities. Too many people post reviews in the heat of a stressful time and not enough people post when they have a positive experience. Thank you Meritus for taking care of me when I was very uncertain of whether or not I was dealing with a heart attack.

Fantastic experience: I have only been to Meritus Medical Center Emergency Room three times. Once for my daughter and twice for myself. When my daughter was taken, at about four years old, they treated her right away and they were amazing! Although I had to wait the last time I went in July '22, they were amazing again. Very professional. The staff are efficient and kind. Thank you Meritus for being there for our community.

Negative experience: Took 2 year old to Meritus for vomiting upon reccomendation of pediatrician. Pediatrician was concerned he could be dehydrated due to not keeping fluids down for 2 days. Also, daycare had been closed due to a positive Covid case. I enformed them of this. My son received the worst care I have ever encountered. No testing was ordered. No Covid test to rule that out. No influenza test to rule that out. No lab work to check for dehydration. He was given a dose of Zofran and basically sent home. Doctor did no examine. Never checked ears or throat. All he did was look at him. No fluids were given. It took me 30 minutes just to get a nurse to respond to bring him a drink. You want him to drink fluids but I can't even get him a drink. Never again. He will go to Frederick next time. They are a joke.

Negative experience: One star is even too much to give this place. If you are sick, and need to be seen in the ER. good luck! Been waiting 5 hours and have no idea of when we will get in to be seen. The staff won’t even speculate on how much longer it will be. So if you are coming to meritus make sure to bring plenty of provisions and a sleeping bag. You’ll get seen some day……maybe
