Fantastic experience: I came to Archetype on the recommendation of a good friend. I have struggled with pain in my arms for the last 2 years and even had to change what I was doing in my day to day life to lessen the severity. Over the last 3 months that I’ve been coming I have had so many days that I’ve been completely pain free. Enough to where I will start back normal activities that I had to stop so I wouldn’t aggravate my pain. I cannot express how great it is to just experience being out of pain on a daily basis and to be hopeful about getting back to activities I enjoy. I love how Dr John takes time with his patients and really gets to know what’s going on and what concerns they have. I never feel rushed and I feel seen as an individual and not just a chart number. I’m thankful, excited and optimistic about my progress.

Fantastic experience: The team at Archetype is truly awesome! I started seeing Dr. John about halfway through my third pregnancy at the recommendation of my midwife. This was my second pregnancy dealing with a debilitating pelvic condition called SPD, and I couldn’t imagine going five more months in the amount of constant pain I was in. Even movements as basic as walking and rolling over in bed hurt. After my first visit, I noticed an incredible difference in how I was able to move. The pain decreased so much right away, and regular visits to Archetype kept me moving—and even able to keep up with working out—until the end of my pregnancy. I’m so thankful for the genuine care I’ve received from everyone there!

Fantastic experience: My wife became a patient of Dr. Palmer sometime in 2022, and after experiencing significant results, each of my three kids (ages 21, 18 and 16), as well as my wife’s brother, subsequently became patients. And all of them experienced the same significant improvement in energy level, weight control and general overall health. The weight control piece does not appear to be a direct goal for Dr. Palmer's, but it is certainly a welcoming byproduct. So, after all of these members of my family became patients of Dr. Palmer, and all received similar, very positive results, I decided to give it a try. I was a little reluctant at first, since I really didn’t have anything “wrong” with me - that is, I had maintained fairly consistent mental acuity, energy support and was in good general health, whereas each of my family members had something specific that they were trying to improve, whether it was skin issues, menstruation issues or natural immunity concerns. However, I figured I had nothing to lose, and if I only incrementally improved energy levels and perhaps very slightly lowered my A1c, etc., that it would be worth it. Having just completed my fifth week and Dr. Palmer‘s “Program“, I can report that I have already achieved much greater than “incremental“ improvement in those areas, as well as improvement in many other areas that I did not even recognize were deficient. Needless to say, I am very pleased that I followed the lead of my family and got on board with Dr. Palmer.

Highly recommend especially for prenatal care! I went my entire pregnancy and seriously couldn’t have survived it without them!

Fantastic experience: I was on a 8 hour road trip when I tried to bite into a big sandwich and my jaw dislocated and got stuck open. I went to 3 chiropractors in Birmingham and they turned me away due to not having appointments, and I’m glad they did. We got Archetype on the phone told them the emergency and they immediately met us at his office. They were already closed and at home. After a few maneuvers and some therapy he had a very miserably painful dislocation put back in place. Very knowledgeable and sympathetic and aware of my feelings. Very thankful we ended up here being an out of towner and ending up in good hands. Could not recommend this staff any more!

Fantastic experience: I am so thankful for Dr. John!! I’ve had chiropractic care for most of my life but switched to Dr. John during my first pregnancy. He takes such amazing care of his mama patients. I did not have any of the typical third trimester pregnancy pains or discomforts. I had a quick, unmedicated labor and delivery with no complications. I know Dr. John’s care had a huge impact on my positive experience! He has also helped me through some really difficult postpartum health issues. One in particular was stumping other doctors weeks but Dr. John identified the issue immediately and got me feeling better in a few days. I have trusted Dr. John to adjust my baby since he was born and always learn so much about my baby’s growth and development when I take him to Archetype. I am amazed by Dr. John’s knowledge of the human body! Also, Hollie does amazing muscle therapy massages for pregnant mamas!!

Negative experience: Nice atmosphere and genuine people. If this would be your first time going too Archetype they take insurance and cash if don’t have insurance it would be $260 for your first initial visit and then $60 for if you would like too come back for more adjustments. In my opinion the $260 first visit is a little bit inconvenient for people with no insurance.

Fantastic experience: As a patient with ankylosing spondylitis, I had almost given up hope on getting any relief from my spontaneous flare ups in my back...until I walked into Archetype Health. Dr. John explained the 3-dimensional approach they provide to health: chiropractic health, movement and nutrition. Intrigued, and desperate, I decided to give it a try, and I am so grateful that I did! I am used to feeling "some" pain every day, and now I go days...weeks even.... with zero pain! My sleep has improved; I no longer have the energy dip in the afternoon; I have even been able to reduce the dosage of some medications (under the supervision of both doctors). I actually FEEL GOOD! All the time. The staff is incredible.....Needless to say, I would give this clinic a million stars if I could. If you are hesitant, just try it! You will not regret it!

Fantastic experience: Initially sought out chiropractor care after delivering my daughter. I was experiencing terrible low back & sciatic pain. Within a few visits I was feeling normal again after a year of pain. I’ve continued my adjustments (over two years now) & love the changes they have made. As long as I live in Bham this is where I’ll go for adjustments & well-being. Dr. John & his team are incredible.

Fantastic experience: Dr John is the Best! And Hollie, the muscle therapist, is AWESOME ‼️ After regular sessions I can once again climb stairs without pain in my hips. And Hollie did what my orthopedic doctor couldn’t do, releasing the swelling in my leg and knee after knee replacement surgery ‼️ Together Dr John and Hollie can change your life in the Best way.

Fantastic experience: I started having knee pain, digestive issues, left side of face pain and various other issues starting at age 27 on random occurrences. I spent thousands of dollars on medical doctors, physicians, blood test, and various surgeries to try and figure out what was going on until I was 32. 5 years of this and NO ONE HAD AN ANSWER! INSANE RIGHT!?!?! After 5 years of NO SOLUTION, I decided to try a different approach and go the chiropractic route. Dr. John and the Archetype team drew my blood, gave me a nutrition plan and developed a health plan that was molded to resolve the issues that i was having. Through this process, it was uncovered that I had a severe gluten intolerance that I likely had my entire life and show cased itself at the age of 27, and this intolerance was causing pain and inflammation throughout my entire body. I was not moving enough throughout the day(computer job) which was not helping the inflammation. Also, it was uncovered that my previous doctors were trying to solve the problem by pumping me full of antibiotics(WHICH WAS MAKING MY ISSUES WORSE!). Archetype conducted a blood test, developed a nutrition plan and a bi-weekly adjustment plan to solve my issues. At first, i was skeptical because of the past 5 years. The medical industry destroyed any confidence I had that there was any possible solution. Dr John and the Archetype team convinced me very quickly THROUGH RESULTS and NOT GUESSES(as the the medical industry likes to do) that the plan was working. Ultimately, What took the medical industry 5 years to try and resolve.... Archetype resolved in 60 days. Today, I am 34, and due to the last 1.5 years at Archetype, i am biking daily, eating a health diet and feel like I am 25 again. I HAVE SO MUCH ENERGY! I highly recommend Archetype as a replacement to your regular family physician to take care of your day-to-day health needs. They will formulate a health plan for you to STAY healthy and you will reap the rewards. P.S.: It's a much better investment of money than the medical industry offers today. Trust me!

Fantastic experience: Archetype is unique in the chiropractic field due to the high level of individual attention, taking time to inspect and address the pains of the week and remedy using several methods. This is no 2-minute snap-crackle-pop session that’s replicated over as many patients as possible. From muscle therapy and dry needling to a wide range of adjustment techniques, nothing is missed, and I leave the office every single time thinking “wow, that feels amazing!” My weekly Archetype visits keep me running, lifting, and performing at work at higher intensities without getting worn down. I have nothing but good things to say about this phenomenal team.

Fantastic experience: In 2016 Dr. John performed not one, but two series of very precise, technical, and intense adjustments. (I could tell you more about that later in a second rating because it’s completely true and documented.) The results were absolutely stunning, and to my knowledge there is no other field of healthcare in the world (known to man) that, to this day yields such profound, immediate, and meaningful results. Five years and some change later, I somehow managed to, essentially, dislocate several discs BETWEEN my shoulder blades. It affected every muscle, rib, and fiber in my torso, and has inflicted me with exhausting pain, every day, for the last two weeks. Nothing I’ve done has brought relief, and for obvious reasons back surgery, medications, or the like were not only ridiculous options for me as an otherwise perfectly healthy man, they should and would be considered completely incompetent and even damaging. He did not have space in his schedule for me, but his colleague Dr. Brandon was able to see me immediately. Day 1 was a complete initial study of my condition. It included a few pages of information, and a series of preparatory adjustments to return overcompensated regions to their original position. Day 2 I rested. Day 3 (today) at 6:45am Dr. Brandon, began again with some preparatory adjustments for about 5-10 minutes. He then performed the primary adjustment called a “distraction”, which literally requires another person in complete synchronicity to perform a very strong, almost elongated, bidirectional pull on my 40-year-old spine to encourage it into correct alignment at precisely the right location. I can only describe the experience as epic. It took my breath away for nearly 10-15 seconds, and it took about 3 minutes of recovery before I could stand, but I probably could have within the minute if I had to and I felt immediately that the tension in my back was gone. By noon it felt completely better, just a little sore. I know every case is probably different, but these type of results are pretty normal, and its so affordable even paying out of pocket. I never leave reviews anywhere, on anything, but because it really does take a measure of trust to let someone literally re-shape your spine, I wanted to attest to the complete and absolute confidence I have personally, in the skill, precision, and excellence with which these folks operate. They also happen to be great people to know in general. I intend for my entire family to learn the wellness principles they are teaching, and will be recommending them to all my friends and family. If I have a headache, I would call them before I took so much as an aspirin. That really is true (unless I just knew it was from dehydration or something), I forgot how almost magical the results are when compared with any other discipline.

Fantastic experience: After trying many methods to rid myself of back and neck pain from a car accident, I decided to try chiropractic methods and I am so glad I did. Dr. John is about having full body health and getting to the root of the symptoms rather than masking them for instant gratification. He and his staff are so very welcoming and thorough every single visit. I was so scared to begin this process because I was unsure what to expect. Dr. John has explained everything to me from the begin and my mind is at ease about the process and expectations. Fantastic experience: Dr Sandy Trail is wonderful. She has helped me resolve a shoulder problem, and I feel so much better overall. She is very thorough, listens well, and is always pleasant and friendly. Archetype is a well managed practice with friendly staff.

Fantastic experience: This is such a great chiropractic office! The staff is beyond friendly, and it is so easy to reschedule or call in late. They are the absolute best. The staff deserve 5 stars alone. Dr. John is wonderful though. As nervous as I was during my first visit, Dr. John walked me through every adjustment he makes and continues to do so every time. He always does his best to address any issues in every appointment before you leave, even if that means re-adjusting or adjusting in other places. The initial "physical" was so thorough. I came in for a headache, but they addressed issues I had that I did not consider significant but was slightly aware of. I truly appreciated that. After very short months, my migraines are relatively non-existent. I've been to numerous physicians for help, but nothing truly helped until I came here. In addition, Dr. John helped me come up with some exercises that are safe for my body and effective to obtain my health goals. I highly recommend Dr. John and this practice to anyone.

Fantastic experience: I started visiting Archetype when I heard about the altitude room. The altitude classes with John have had incredible effects on my training and fitness. I have been gearing up to be on a wildland firefighting hotshot crew which has a huge physical demand and preseason training is extremely intense and important. The crew I will be on is based out of 7000 feet, I am very confident that my training done at Archetype has prepared me for the altitude that I’m about to move to and start working at. I’ve also made some great friends through the class! I’m very thankful for Archetype and think it’s an amazing resource to have in Birmingham.

Fantastic experience: I have worked with Dr John Palmer and his team for years. To me they are more than a chiropractor. They are a health advisor. Dr John and his team are always innovating and trying new things. I believe he is on the forefront of technology and training in his field which allows me as a patient to feel like my ever changing needs are being treated with the most advanced skills and concepts. Fantastic experience: I've been to several chiropractors over the years and this place has a lot going for it. The atmosphere is welcoming. One feels a sense of community. Everyone who works here is polite, intelligent, competent, and refreshingly genuine. You receive massage therapy before your adjustment which makes a huge difference. Dr. John Palmer, the primary chiropractor, performs adjustments with unmatched confidence and skill. You really get the sense that he knows exactly what he's doing and is very good at it, which allows you to relax and enjoy it. I've been going here twice a week for several weeks now and it has been life changing (no exaggeration). I am feeling physically and mentally better than I have in years, and I owe it to Archetype Health!

Fantastic experience: I was in excruciating pain from a low back issue causing sciatica pain to shoot down my right leg. Dr. John and his team have helped me to get back to normal activities with considerably less pain after just one month of treatments. Fantastic experience: As a 50 year old man who has seen chiropractors most of my life due to bouts with low back pain and spasms that have taken me out for either days or weeks at a time, I am now stable. I have seen chiropractors that were quite professional, but I can tell that Dr John is 100% invested in the process of each client getting well and staying well. Fantastic experience: Doctor John has changed my life! I’m going to share my story here so please read till the end, but these guys are amazing plain and simple. The staff are extremely friendly and really easy to work with. They are very accommodating and flexible which is needed for me and my schedule that changes daily. The massage therapists that help with muscle work are all extremely talented and know how to target problem areas and provide immediate, and long term relief. So here is my story....I hurt my lower back 10 years ago. I have been dealing with severe lower back pain on a weekly basis ever since. I have been unable to do a lot of normal daily activities ever since that injury, and when I do do those activities I paid for it with severe lower back pain for days. (I am only 28 years old btw.) Finally I was done ignoring seeking help and figured I would see what the hype was with chiropractors before going to see a back surgeon. I started seeing Dr John 3 months ago and these guys have seriously changed my life. In just three months I have gone from almost daily back pain, to having minor tightness in my back maybe once or twice a week. I’m talkin going from multiple days a week of 10/10 lower back pain to maybe a couple days where it’s like a 3/10. I went from not being able to do intense yard work or exercise, to being able to do those things and be fine the next day. If you have read all the way to the end of this you clearly are dealing with a serious issue going on with your body. Doctor John and his team here won’t necessarily make it disappear, but I can tell you from personal experience, he can help A LOT. I wouldn’t be able to function like a normal person without everything Dr J and Holly and everyone here has and is doing for me. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough good things about Dr. John and his staff! I feel very welcome every time I come in for my adjustment/muscle work, and they take excellent care of me. Fantastic experience: Coming to Friends & Family is my favorite form of self-care! Dr. Ray & Dr. John quickly diagnosed a misalignment that summed up the pain I was feeling: numbness in my far right fingers that traveled up my arm, around my elbow, around my shoulder, shoulder blade, and up my neck on the right side. They showed my x-rays to me on a huge screen, and explained what the previous 3 chiropractors couldn’t. I practically fall asleep mid-adjustment, every time... it’s that thorough. My treatment consists of focused muscle work/massage on my most problematic areas followed by a head-to-toe (literally every toe) adjustment. I can’t say enough! Do yourself a favor and come here :)

Fantastic experience: ...there I was, on my office floor for 2 hours with my son begging me to get up, waiting for a co-worker to help me. This is when I decided to call Friends & Family Health Centers. I’ve been going to Dr John for aprox 6 months now. My back hasn’t felt this good in a long time. I’m able to be active as I wish with out the fear of my back giving out and laying on the ground for an undetermined amount of time. I have recommended multiple to them, and they’ve all commented on the service and how they feel afterwards.

Fantastic experience: I have a job where I’m standing on my feet all day and have suffered from hip pain for years. After one adjustment my hip pain was gone. The staff also taught me different stretches to help relieve any tightness that may come up. Everyone is so friendly and attentive and really help you feel well taken care of!

Their insurance staff are so knowledgeable and helpful with every situation, their availability is better than any health care provider I have ever been to, and I leave my sessions feeling like a new person! Fantastic experience: Friends and Family is a great place to get healthy! They not only care about your pain level but your overall well-being. They are very busy and you might have to wait a little past your appointment time but don’t let it scare you off. Dr. John has been fantastic and all of the employees care about your wellness. Fantastic experience: I came in a few months ago with severe hip and back pain. Dr. Helena really listens and helps determine the cause of the pain. Both she and Christina do an amazing job with adjustments and muscle work each week! I am feeling SO much better. My sleep, exercise routine, and daily life have really improved. I would highly recommend this practice!!

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Homewood Friends and Family Health Center ever since I moved to Birmingham in 2017. The service and treatments I have received are nothing short of phenomenal. Dr. John and his team always go above and beyond to help me to feel my best. A prime example of their excellent care was during second semester of my Freshman year in college. Being from Florida, I was struggling a bit being away from my family and the winter weather that I was not used to. If it wasn’t for my twice-weekly adjustments and the amazing care and support I received from Dr. John and his team, I probably would not still be at Samford today as a Junior. Today, after two and one-half years under the care of Dr. John and his team, I can honestly say it has been one of the best decisions and investments I have ever made. I have gotten so much more out of being a patient of this practice than I ever thought possible.

Fantastic experience: My shoulder had been bothering me for YEARS and after seeing Dr. John for about 2 and a half months, it is completely better. I cannot recommend Homewood Friends & Family enough. Everyone is super friendly, from the receptionists to the muscle work therapists, to the doctors. My biggest advice is to STICK with it and be consistent about going. That's how you see the results.

Fantastic experience: I can not recommend Homewood Friends and Family enough. This is absolutely the best chiropractor’s office in Birmingham. Yes, that’s a strong statement. But it’s true. Fantastic experience: After months of discomfort that eventually led to severe pain, an orthopedic nurse practitioner recommended Dr. Ray at Homewood Friends and Family. I am so thankful that he did. I walked into the office unable to sleep, unable to sit for longer than 10 minutes, and unable to exercise. Within 3 visits I was comfortable again due to the comprehensive plan specific to my body with muscle work and adjustments. I’m half way through my treatment plan now and am sleeping like a champ and exercising again. I’m so thankful to have my life back and can’t wait to see the continued progress!

Fantastic experience: I have only great things to say about this office! I came with a major issue with migraines and after two ACL surgeries I couldn’t be as active as I used to be with knee pain. After seeing Dr. John he has significantly helped with both. I’m now actually being able to run again and with the help of his vitamin regime recommendation, my migraines have decreased to the point of no longer needing prescription medication! Everyone on staff has been so helpful in one way or another and I can’t thank them enough for all the great care they give!

Fantastic experience: Friends and Family has a comprehensive and holistic approach. Their staff has a diversity of competences, from chiropractic and muscular therapy, plus added services when needed, like dry needling, athletic tape, laser therapy, and traction. Their entire staff is kind and genuinely care about their clients. Like friends and family. They have always been accommodating to schedule appointments when we need them, and have excellent follow up reminders. Our family has improved our health in their care.

Fantastic experience: A year ago I never would have imagined being able to go to a concert (in the mosh pit - standing and dancing for 3.5 hours) one night then travel to a music festival the very next day adding two additional nights enjoying the music and dancing for hours at a time. Everyone I’ve encountered are friendly, courteous and provide excellent care. I’ve never felt better especially since my work day consists of sitting the majority of the day. Little did I know, every aspect of my physical and mental health would improve after my first couple of visits! Fantastic experience: It would be an understatement to say that my chiropractic visits at Friends and Family have been life-changing. I had been experiencing increased pain over about 6 months in my neck and shoulders, but I just thought it was stress and tension. I've always had headaches, but those had gotten worse over time as well. For the last couple of years, I had mild to moderate depression occasionally; however, that issue had increased too. I had no idea that all of that was connected, making excuses for each symptom and dismissing most, until one of my doctors noticed that I was moving my neck strangely. My husband is a physician and suggested that I see a chiropractor. Dr. Helena took a great deal of time with me on my first visit, and my x-rays explained so much about my ongoing issues. Fantastic experience: I used to be scared and skeptical of chiropractics, and now I am kicking myself for not coming years ago! At 6 mos pregnant I woke up with an incredibly painful and stiff neck... since you cannot take NSAIDs while pregnant, I reluctantly decided to try a chiropractor visit. Friends and Family were able to accommodate me with a same-day appointment with Dr Ray. From the moment that I walked through the door, everyone was kind and hospitable. Fantastic experience: I've been seeing Dr. John for over 6 months now, and he has helped me eliminate stubborn back pain from caring for and nursing a newborn. The entire staff is incredibly thoughtful and truly puts their patients first. Dr. John has gone above and beyond to get me back to living pain free. After hitting a stopping block with my recovery, he recommended a cold laser session to help with the pain I was experienced in my back and offered it to me free of charge. Fantastic experience: I have been going to Homewood Friends and Family Health Center for Chiropractic care for about a month. I am so impressed with them on every level. Friendliness of every staff member, not just with me but with my children as well. I see Dr. Ray and he’s great. A proponent of fueling and hydrating the temples we have been given, I can easily distinguish the days when I have hydrated well vs. the days I haven’t. Fantastic experience: I had a neck injury in 2015 and I lost dexterity in my hands and fingers. With the help of Dr John and everybody at Friends and Family , I have been able to maintain and regain strength in my hands. I have been able to go off some of the toxic treatments for my migraines and learn other methods for prevention and treatment. I come regularly to facilitate more growth and learn new ways to relax and heal. Preventative medicine involves treatment of the whole person and this is a great place to experience this!

On top of the friendliness and everyone simultaneously knowing and remembering your name despite numerous other patients everyone is extremely knowledgeable. I have had neck and shoulder pain for years and in just one month the range of motion in my neck is significantly better and without pain when I move. Fantastic experience: I have been a patient at HFAF for 5 months and have seen during this short time an almost complete resolution of chronic low back pain that I had been experiencing for the last 6 years, despite being under chiropractic care elsewhere during that time.
