Negative experience: This review only concerns the Radiology Department waiting room at St. Luke's South Hospital. We've been to the St. Luke's South Radiology Department and so to the waiting room, a number of times. We almost always leave feeling like the waiting room experience is kind of "icky". The lady at the front desk, however well meaning, is much too jovial, loud, talkative and bantering with patients. There is a TV in the waiting room. It is too loud, why does St. Luke's think that patients in any waiting room need to be "entertained" at all? It isn't a sports bar. I get that some patients in this type of waiting room are okay with the current waiting room atmosphere. However, just think of all the different radiology procedures that patients receive here. Many are needed to diagnose some very concerning or serious conditions. Is this really the appropriate, professional atmosphere for them? I just think that a lot of patients who are there for a serious or concerning condition do not appreciate the current situation. I think that most patients would be better served with a more professional, dignified waiting room that is commensurate with what they may be going through.

Fantastic experience: I had 3 tests at St. Luke’s this week, 2 at the OPKS South Hospital, & 2 at Mission Farms SLMSC….Comments for all 3 visits, tests are “exceptional” & quality health care service & professionalism! Negative experience: Check in went smooth. Post surgery, though I guess is a mess here, though. We checked in at 6am. And they took my wife about an hour later. TV tracker said she was done about 2 hours later and recovering. Couple hours later, said same thing. Then at 11am they called and said everything went well and she recovered but there are no rooms so i couldn't see her yet. Then a couple hours after that I still hear nothing. I asked up front and they said still no rooms. It is now 1:30 pm and I still haven't seen or heard from anybody. I did hear worker say there was a bunch of patients in the hall ways in the back because there are no rooms. Why schedule people for surgery then when your not going to have a place to recover? Still waiting.

Negative experience: Bad all around. This hospital has never gotten a single thing right with my healthcare for 5 years. That is no exaggeration—something fails EVERY SINGLE TIME. It’s laughable if it wasn’t my health. Very bad follow through… their online and phone menu system is a giant circle of death you can never get out of, and chances are you will be transferred around like a bottom b*itch at a Ditty party before you can actually get any help. There are plenty of wonderful people that work here. But the Saint Luke’s system itself is completely broken. It’s not just this hospital- all Saint Luke’s seem to suffer from administrative incompetence and neglect.

Fantastic experience: A couple weeks ago, I arrived at the St. Luke's South Emergency Room with a life-threatening condition. I am able to write this today because of their rapid response and expert care. All the people involved - nurses, technicians, doctors, and staff - were incredibly skilled, professional, and focused on my health. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Positive experience: My medical care was grat. They were very attentive. No complains . Now let's go to the food. Firs I'm not complaining about the fact that the geared to a heart patient no seasoning or anything like that. It should be edible. I ordered a chicken sandwich with lettuce and mayo. I have never seen anything cooked like that ever. I did take abite and tried to chew it for couple minutes. That was impossible. Tried chicken noodle soup the next time. I'm not sure what they were attempting to serve. Maybe you don't care about the food you serve. I would hope thats not the case, because you should. You can fix this by caring about the quality that you put out..Put someone in ICU as a patient let them judge it. There is no excuse by quality. I would love to hear how you're going fix this. I will be checking to see what and how you're going to address this. My daughter is on your board of directors and I'll be asking. In todays world if you want to be the best then pay attention to every detail and move that place. Don't make excuses because there are none. Thanks for asking. Neal Sawyer

Positive experience: Overall experience was good. Check-in and surgery prep went very well. Post surgery however, would be my only negative experience to share. Post surgery, after I started to wake up, I could hear the nurses talking about having no room for patients. The nurse taking care of me asked me specifically asked me about my need for a room post surgery. She told me it would be several hours before I could be moved to a room. My surgeon told me it was his call if I was released after surgery. My nurse made contact with my surgeon and shared with me that he said it was okay if I was released. During this time, I could still overhear nurses talking about how they had no room for all the patients coming from surgery. As I taken from recovery to my waiting family, I saw a number of patients in fact waiting to get into recovery, waiting in the hallway. Of course I was fine to be released and did not have any negative experiences post discharge. I just feel like there is a time and place for these conversations, and it should not have been in front of patients, making them feel like they are being rushed out of recovery to make room for patients they did not have room for.

Negative experience: Little to no communication. Nice staff, but apparently understaffed. Five hours on a Tuesday night to finally get seen by a doctor in the ER. Once we got seen, they were communicative and personable. But they poked straight through the vein on my wife’s arm in trying to draw blood. Did the same thing on her other arm, and finally had to get someone else to come do the blood draw. Now the inside of her arm near the elbow has a hematoma.

Negative experience: It started at 9:30 Tuesday night. From check in to seeing a doctor, it has been over three hours. I’m a very patient person, but I did let the receptionist know that my friend is in severe pain and this is very unusual. Positive experience: Great facility, great staff, disappointed with staffing level in ER & surgical recovery unit. Arrived in ER late Sunday evening to find all ER beds full & only 2 nurses on duty. They & support staff were fantastic under the circumstances. On the recovery floor, it appeared that the nurses would from time to time performing nurses aides duties. Great team effort but your patients & staff deserve better administrative support.

Fantastic experience: St Luke’s South Hospital is what hospital care was meant to be. In addition to being a spotless and wonderful facility with easy access, copious parking, including valet parking, eating facilities, etc. it’s also staffed by the most caring, friendly, and helpful professionals I have yet to encounter. My particular care involved outpatient surgery that required an early morning arrival at the hospital. My spouse and I like getting to places early, so the staff in the admitting area had yet to arrive. However, rather than putting us on hold, a pleasant lady at the front desk stepped in and took care of everything in a matter of minutes. Just one of those little extra steps taken by the hospital to help reduce our anxiety. The nurse taking me to the preparation room was both professional and very helpful and friendly. She carefully explained what was taking place and what would be taking place over the course of the morning. Once prepped, my spouse and I were introduced to those who would be participating during my surgery, including the attending nurse, the anesthesiologist, the nurse anesthetist. All were very helpful in discussing their roles and answering questions. The doctor was the last to visit prior to my being whisked off to the operating room. He also took time to discuss what he intended to do, an estimate of the time involved, and to answer questions. All of which contributed to both my spouse’s and my feeling that I was now in very good hands. Throughout the process, my spouse was kept informed of my progress via a large display in an area specifically set aside family members. Once the surgery was complete, the results were handled face-to-face by the doctor and a recovery nurse. An added benefit was having nay post-surgery medications filled by the onsite pharmacy and made available almost immediately. The nurse responsible during my recovery was equally as professional, helpful and friendly as all those I had previously encountered. Not only did she take excellent care of me, but she also kept my spouse informed of my status right up to the point of wheeling me to the front door. What a delightful person. It’s obvious to me that not only is the hospital’s staff top notch, but the equipment and overall environment must be the same. Once home, I experienced no issues at all except for some slight discomfort the first and second day. As I write this review, I’m in my 10th day since the surgery and feeling 100% back to normal while still following the doctor's orders to take it easy. I’m a very happy customer and this is my hospital of choice should I need surgical/medical care in the future.

Negative experience: I definitely do not recommend anyone to go to the Saint Luke’s in Overland Park. Stacy L, Zeigler was the first person I interacted with and she gives their brand bad vibes. She is very rude, something as simple as a “good morning” or a “hello”, “I’m following up with your inquiry”, INSTEAD she starts off with a “You need to send us”. You ask her a question on “why” and instead of explaining, she responds by emailing you the same thing she said again. Considering this surgery is already embarrassing enough and when the staff members are cold towards you too, it makes you not even want to go through the process. She definitely doesn’t need to be anyone’s first impression! She told me my Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance was out of their network. Which I don’t understand because my insurance told me the hospital choices I had in my area. I also have Medicaid too but didn’t even tell her nor did she ask. Also she says you have to be 1 year post opp from birth to even start bariatric care, which my year will be up in 2 more months, I’ve never heard of this. Getting the process going now of what I’m required to do to get the surgery is going to take well over the 2 months of my child turning one. Luckily I didn’t just apply for Saint Luke’s. Hopefully when I try again, I will try a different location!

Fantastic experience: The MRI staff were really helpful and understanding and made sure I was always comfortable. Unfortunately the Saint Luke’s Neurologists (2) are not available to go over the results until Nov.5 or Dec. 30. So I have to wait 2 1/2 months to find out why I am lightheaded and experiencing dizziness. This is not your problem I know. I was able to get in pretty soon after my doctor sent a referral for MRI and for a Hearing exam first, with the Audiologist. I will try to find someone who can go over my MRI results before Nov. 5.

Negative experience: Staff openly views me as a hysterical woman with a stomach ache and will not take my symptoms seriously or show any signs of interest in helping, let alone believing me. I called to schedule a follow up, and they can't see me for six months. I cannot keep food down. None of my clothes fit anymore. They won't even write me a doctor's note so I can puke in my own toilet instead of a work stall.

Fantastic experience: We wanted to give a shout out to Jeneen Rockhold!! She was an AMAZING resource for my husband who was a patient there earlier this year. We were having issues getting the hospital to pay the ambulance invoice. We talked to so many individuals and went thru so much red tape. Jeneen was so very knowledgeable, understanding, and focused on our issue! She guided us through how to manage through the departments to get results. She was an excellent liaison between the ambulance company and the hospital and us! Thank you Jeneen!!

Fantastic experience: I was doing very well getting ready for surgery, then became VERY nervous about 1 particular injection into MY NECK!!!! The nurses and anesthesiologist took spell care and explained the whole thing all over again and why they would do everything the same way if they were the patient. Very good!

Negative experience: Loose like I’m not only one who has horrible experience with emergency room. a few days ago I took my mom to emergency room. . we stayed there for 10 hours. Out any help? He is trying to do a bunch of stuff but not necessary but what important to do they avoid they not able to do IV for my mom. How many times it try nobody can do it no professionally at all they should be back to school for training.. doctor is very rude. What last one your ears and that change recognize how God change in every single down.

Positive experience: Overall 90% of the nurses care was very good, went down hill when they closed surgical wing I was in and was moved upstairs. While there is signs about falls in bathroom, unfortunately they store so much in them, that is the fall hazard.

Negative experience: Fun fact: did you know saint lukes emergency rooms don’t take emergent statuses of their patients into consideration? My wife and I sure didn’t, what this means is if you are actively dying but someone with a scraped knee or a booboo on their cheek comes in before you they’ll be seen first and you get told to be patient in the waiting room. We lived this today as my wife sat for an hour screaming and sobbing in agony in the ER waiting room as people smiling and giggling and seemed nothing but happy to be there got taken in before us and the secretary refused to tell a nurse even when other patients started complaining that it was unfair they were being seen before my wife. We left and went to menorah hospital and were immediately taken into a room because they recognize some medical emergencies are more important than cuts and bruises. Don’t let your loved ones suffer, go to an HCA hospital not saint lukes.

Negative experience: The nursing staff on the floors were too young, too inexperienced (exception of one PCT, Asia), They laughed as they ripped the monitoring pads off my chest, floors and equipment were dirty, One of the day nurses (Karon McMaster) only responded to questions "Im not going to argue with you", IVs had to be replaced, staff had issues hitting veins without bruising. Pathetic experience that we paid good money for... ER and GI experiences were great.

Negative experience: A terrible experience at the ER yesterday. It was told that the ER has one Dr and nurse practioners. They were short of staff. Frankly speaking, could not get to see the Dr at all and was unnecessarily taken for a CT scan.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely The Best hospital for my care. I try to do everything at Saint Luke's South Hospital. We even move close by so if I need care Saint Luke's is only " a stones throw away " from us. In an emergency, we will pass up other hospitals to go to Saint Luke's South. The folks that care for us at Saint Luke's South are are well informed, kind, and above all, very caring for the patients. Cannot say enough good things about Saint Luke's South Hospital. Positive experience: Some of my physicians I find excellent, some mediocre. Use of outpt lab services @ South location is sub par for their customer service. For this reason I don't get labs done. Our local urgent care was closed leaving us having to travel quite a distance so I don't go. I don't see a physician for pulmonary care but rather a nurse practicioner so I've stopped going. As an aging patient with numerous conerns I want a doctor who can address my needs as an older adult. I am exploring a new healthcare network.

Positive experience: On Memorial Day, my mother fell while out walking and was taken to St. Luke's South by ambulance. She was found to have a broken hip, was admitted, and had surgery the following morning. The Emergency Department and Surgical Staff were excellent. Following surgery, she was cared for in the Surgical Unit. Her initial experience was good, however, over the next couple of days, there wasn't a continuity of the nursing staff. Probably my biggest complaint was the lack of communication between her Case Manager and physician. On Wednesday, the day following surgery, we were told by the surgeon's P.A. that my mother would remain at St. Luke's South through Thursday and then be discharged to a rehabilitation hospital for therapy. Thursday at 12:30 p.m., I received a call from the Case Manager indicating my mother was going to be released later that afternoon and that we needed to make a decision on what rehab hospital she should go to. Fortunately, we were able to see one of the facilities early that afternoon and make this schedule work. I'm sure many would not have been able to do so. It's also important to note that my mother did not receive physical therapy/occupational therapy on the day of her discharge. Looking back at what happened to her and her subsequent admission, two things stand out: 1. Insurance reimbursement is the number one priority of the hospital. I fully understand this, but wish the hospital simply would have advised that absent circumstances that were out of the ordinary, my mother would be discharged in "x" number of days. 2. If the patient is elderly, or uneducated, they certainly need someone to help them navigate the hospital stay. While this hospital stay wasn't terrible, it certainly wasn't excellent. Average is a fair description.

Positive experience: I was in the hospital for approximately 5 days this time and did not have the same excellent care from the care team. Not only was the care not as good but they moved me into a room right next to construction (which started at either 6:30 or 7 every morning except Sunday!)!! How can you recover with drilling going on right next to you??? Very disappointing.

Negative experience: My sister was taken in to the ER for a spider bite where she was having a visible allergic reaction. Staff was incredibly rude during the whole process including telling my parents they were overreacting and saying it was just a spider bite and couldn’t have been that bad. My sister had swelling, dizziness, hives, numbness, severe pain, and her skin was hot to the touch during the visit and staff adamantly denied that her bite was that bad. She had to be taken to the ER in another hospital where she was treated adequately with medication something the ER staff at St. Lukes South was unwilling to give for what was a visible reaction to a spider bite. During the visit my family also overheard staff yelling at a patient that was brought in via ambulance while being incredibly rude to that patient as well. Overall terrible experience for my family.

Fantastic experience: No one wants to be in a hospital but, my experience was beyond my expectations. Everyone was very professional, very helpful and generally good and caring people. I am now in rehab at Lakeview Village and very happy with the care here. I will be using St. Luke's home rehab. I have not used another medical group since 2009 when I moved here.

Negative experience: Have always had great care until this last visit w my mother. She was I'll and having s/s of pneumonia which she is chronic with at age 96 and CHF. Falling confusion hypoxia cough with blood and mucus lethargy, her usual symptoms. In the hospital for 5 days. I asked repeatedly for antibiotic and was told no due to no fever or elevated WBC . After transfer to nursing home she continued w symptoms and getting worse . Dr started antibiotics. And on Day 9 now and she is walking by herself staying awake cough almost gone confusion better and back to baseline. Extremely disappointed in the care and failure to listen to patient history and family requests. She was there on 2 different stays for pull embolism and pneumonia and Dr s were GREAT. Staff and care was great!! Treatment was great! Thank you.

Positive experience: Your checkout process was a mess. It not only took 4 1/2 hours from start to finish, but included redundant "reviews." On an "in=room" zoom I learned that an RN, the one on the zoom, had restored RXs that had been deleted. In one instance I was on the "in room zoom" when I got a call on my cell phone asking me for exactly the same information!

Negative experience: Extremely Frustrated with the Service at St. Lukes and will never set foot in there again. There is no Urgency at all and I feel that they exploit the Clients rather then actually resolve the issue. Had 2 issues within a few months which made write them off for good. First issue happened a few months ago where I took my wife to the emergency room during a weekend for an issue and at the emergency room they confirmed that there was an issue, however they needed to see a specialist and asked us to set up an appt. They couldn't give my wife anything for her issue so she had to push through the weekend only to call on Monday and be told they couldn't see her for 3 months. We left there and went to another Hospital which was able to get her seen and treated within a week. Second issue just happened where I myself had scheduled a sleep study back in DECEMBER where the earliest I could get was at the end of MARCH (another 3 months). I was patient despite having bad issues where I am passing out quickly if I am not active. I get seen by the pulmonary doctor where they confirm that I need to have a Sleep Study (Something I thought I was already there for), however St. Luke's South doesn't have the equipment or Lab for this and that I would have to schedule with St. Luke's East where they have everything. I was skeptical given the time I had to wait and expressed that I cannot wait for another 3 months, however I was reassured that that one happen as I all I would have to do is pick up equipment and be shown how to use it. I should be able to get in within a week is what I was told. I left and immediately called the number provide ONLY TO BE TOLD I THE EALIEST I COULD BE SEEN WAS JUNE 5TH. This is beyond outrageous!!!! Why do you have a Pulmonary Office at St. Luke's South if they can't even do anything? NOTHING WAS EVEN DONE DURING MY VISIT AS I STILL HAVE AN ISSUE WITH NO PROGRESS PROVIDED AT ALL, HOWEVER I BET YOU QUICKLY BILLED MY INSURANCE FOR THE VISIT!! Yes I am venting, however this twice that St. Luke's Has shown that apparently there is no urgency for their patients AT ALL!! I heard them tell me "oh our staff was trimmed down in this section" and "Places have closed", however I feel that is an issue on your end as it seems that other hospitals seem to show some urgency with their patients. Perhaps if you actually showed any urgency for a bad issue your locations may not be closing down around the area. I hope you resolve this issue for your current and future patients, however I will not be returning to your locations ever again.

Fantastic experience: Had an elective surgery, a LINX procedure. Dr Moore, my surgeon, was fantastic from the point of contact in preop to after the surgery. Nurses were efficient, friendly, knowledgeable. Overall a wonderful experience.

Negative experience: I had a not so great experience visiting their ER.. I had a really bad heart palpitation, feeling my my heart is jumping out of me. I thought i was having a heart attack. when I arrived there is a single receptionist, taking her sweet time signing patients in and I had to wait in line. I thought i could die...and I thought I should just lay on the floor and see any one cares. But my senses got the better of me. After what seemed like an eternity, she's finally done with registering the last patient. and it's my turn.. I signed in and they took me to the triage room and did an EKG. and I guess the doctor/nurse decided i am not dying just yet. and they sent me out to the waiting room.. and guess how long I waited. 4 hours! By then my heart started to slow down and calmer. and still no doctor in sight. So I just told them I'm done and walked out. The bill for the EKG was 200 bucks with insurance (granted i have a high deductible. ) I guess I could have done the EKG on my iphone and apple watch for free? I never saw the doctor there. I will never come back to this hospital for emergencies. Try Menorah instead. So sad too, coz 20 years ago, my daughters was born here. Exactly upstairs where the ER is. But seems that they do not have a maternity ward any more? I'm not sure what happened to this hospital.

Negative experience: The worst staff imaginable. An uninsured person can expect to pay $200 for an office visit. They were not seeing patients during covid and they tell you you’re lucky to see a Dr within 2 months. The mangement and staff have a terrible attitude and lack empathy for patients. St Luke’s is everything that’s wrong with the healthcare system.

Fantastic experience: I was hospitalized at St. Luke’s South for 5 days and they took excellent care of me!! I cannot tell you how grateful I am for the care I received!! My room felt like a revolving door with staff there to tend to me, but when I left, I was sooo much better and had the will to live, get better, and a smile on my face!! Negative experience: The doctors, and the last nurses I had were great. Very much listened to me and advocated for my pain. I am waiting to get a scope done and had a schedule of what meds I got at what time to help keep my pain down from a 10. The nurse Emma today on the 3rd floor decided she wasn’t comfortable in giving me the meds that the doctors approved of because of my blood pressure. I’m nauseous so it’s very difficult for me to keep pills down & I have a midline for this exact reason. After they redid my blood pressure and it was fine they got me my med but only gave me half the dose the doctor prescribed me. When I confirmed them about it she said the nurse goes personally off a pain scale instead of listening to the actual doctors orders. When I asked for the charge nurse manager she said that she wasn’t there & that I’d have to wait til tomorrow. I’m currently bawling my eyes out in my bed in so much pain, and when I asked for a new nurse which is my legal right they told me that they didn’t have a new nurse to give me. I am waiting to see doctor but I do not recommend the nurse Emma on 3rd floor or the charge nurse that’s here Sunday 3/17. I feel judged and not listened to when I’m in real pain. I feel so unheard and am in my room bawling my eyes out. I do not recommend to have Emma or the charge nurse here today as your nurse. You’ll get brushed off and unheard and dismissed. Doctors and my last three nurses were great. Probably my worst experience at a hospital ever is today and I’m waiting to have a surgery scope done tomorrow.

Fantastic experience: I recently had a surgical procedure at Saint Lukes South Hospital and the staff was wonderful. They treated me with kindness and respect. The check-in staff were so very kind. Jessica was my nurse before and after the procedure and she was helpful and gentle. Mackensie and Dereck put me at ease in the surgical suite. Dr. Martin, the anesthesiologist listened to my needs and was on my side in keeping the anesthesia. Of course, Dr. Tim Roberts was outstanding. Thanks so much to all.

Negative experience: I went to st Luke’s south with alcohol induced withdrawals and the nurses were so rude and mean. They bullied me and made fun of me. I told them I could potentially be pregnant and they refused to do an ultrasound or a test and told me I’d be a bad mom bc I was drinking. Just found out I’m pregnant today and will NOT be going to this hospital for anything ever again.

Positive experience: I have 6 or 7 outpatient procedures in 3 different locations. It always feels like patients are being herded thru like cattle. Don't even get me started with the portal, billing, estimates, repetitive calling, texting all asking the same questions.

Fantastic experience: I was especially impressed with Dr. J. Michael Donohue, the ER Doctor. He was thorough but his kindness was special. He took time to listen to me (heart condition) and ordered a series of tests that revealed further problems with my heart. It was because of his caring insight that I made the decision to enter hospice. I will always remember him for being special. I wish I could nominate him for a St. Luke's award.

Fantastic experience: Nancy Blake, RN I had my Hernia repair operation on Feb. 13th. As you can determine from my records, I have had a few surgical procedures at St. Lukes and other facilities. None of us wants to have surgery but this last experience was the smoothest (from admitting thru discharge) and easiest to cope with I have experienced. The people involved were terrific and of course the surgery was perfect. Thanks Dr. Slayden ! Easy recovery, I was up and going the next day. Fantastic experience: Pretty amazing. Went to ER with a complex UTI. Thirty minutes later was rolled across the hall to the hospital side. A few days later they figured out that only double doses of antibacterial through my IV would kill the infection. Then I got in-home hospital care: Nurses/paramedics came to my house twice a day to give the meds/ take samples. Lab couriers came to the house for blood/urine specimens. Pharmacy techs dropped off my daily meds. I had instant communication with medical staff through a touch screen, telephone, and a button lanyard. So, all the care of a hospital, but I could bake cookies and let the dog out.

Fantastic experience: I recently had lab work, Complete UA Sonogram, and an annual cancer checkup (had renel cell carcinoma, left kidney removed 7 1/2 yrs. ago). Doctor Ryan Miller is my Urologist and Surgeon who removed my kidney and has treated me the entire time. I'm cancer free, and I attribute this to Dr. Miller's exceptional care. He is an incredibly remarkable surgeon, and human being, who has my highest possible recommendation.
