Negative experience: I scheduled last year at this time for as a new patient for a Dr. Couldn't see me for 6 months. Fine, I waited. The Dr I saw was rough at best and dismissive at worst. Called to schedule a 6 month followup, right after the appt, but to schedule a new Dr. 6 month wait. Not a problem. They just canceled my appt, which happens and I'm not unhappy. Until I call to reschedule, and NONE of their locations have openings for another 6 MONTHS. With family members having to use their services and my experience(s) being really crappy.... this network has been nothing but poor service for everyone I know that has dealt with them.

Negative experience: I had surgery in November and I decided to stay overnight I was seen by Dr Shook’s surgical team on Friday morning and I was ready to be discharged by10:30am I kept asking about being discharged and I was told the staff were waiting for discharge paperwork After waiting 3hours, I decided I was going to leave with or without discharge paperwork and I was very upset that it was taking so long I told the staff at the nurses station that I was leaving in 15 minutes. A nurse came in 15 minutes later and completed the discharge process but not before the remote discharge person came on the speaker and went through the discharge paperwork. This process should NOT HAVE HAPPENED!!!!!! I certainly hope that your discharge procedures improve with other patients !

Positive experience: My experience was good and bad, I was scheduled to be induced on November 12, 2024 to have my baby and ended up having to get a C-Section, however I lost so much blood had to get a blood transfusion, I think the doctors, nurses, Anastasia, surgeons did a wonderful job saving my baby and I, how ever I was heavily Sedated on 11/13 by one of the nurses on duty I was giving a shot in my right arm I believe it was Tierney Carley or the nurse that worked the night shift I didn’t get her name, I was asking what was the shot and she said what shot i couldn’t remember anything after that when I came back to my self I noticed my necklace was missing off my neck around 6:30 pm and my fiancé told me he seen it on my neck before he left we looked for it in my bed and in all of my bags it was missing the necklace had diamonds around my deceased mother picture front and back very Sentimental value to me I wish someone would investigate and let me know if someone has it.

Fantastic experience: I was taken into Emergency at St Luke’s following a burst appendix on a transatlantic flight. I spent almost 3 weeks on the 7th floor Intermediate Ward. The care was exemplary. I can’t praise enough the doctors, the nurses, the nursing assistants and other staff who were unfailingly professional, friendly, helpful and sympathetic. Many went out of their way to perform acts of kindness above and beyond. I returned home to the U.K. this week. I’ll never forget the wonderful staff. They are angels, one and all.

Negative experience: I gave birth to my son here the birthing experience was great besides the anesthesiologist kept telling me I wasn't feeling pain when I definitely was, then there was mother and baby that was the worst place on earth made me wish I gave birth somewhere else they made me feel like I was a bad mother, gave my child Tylenol without my knowledge and really just brought me down besides 1 nurce who I would give 5 stars her name was autumn she was the sweetest and always on top of everything made me feel like I was a great mom right off the bat and I'm very lucky she was my nurse multiple days in a row

Fantastic experience: I had my first ever (and hopefully only!) surgery here recently and I could not have asked for a better experience. Everyone I interacted with from the time I was contacted for pre-op info/interview to the time I walked in the door and then finally left was so reassuring and comforting. The entire visit also felt super efficient. I don't want or plan on having another surgery but if it does come up I would not hesitate to return to Saint Luke's KC for care.

Fantastic experience: I had a very good experience there with my surgery. The RNs were fantastic, professional, kind, and caring. The facility was very clean and comfortable. Drs are the best in the region.
Negative experience: I have been with Saint Lukes hospital on the plaza since I moved to Kansas City in 2020. However, I must warn you, my care with them has gone speeding down hill at an alarming rate. In the last six months, I have lost FIVE of my specialists on my care team. I get a nerve block biweekly to help me manage my chronic pain as well as Vyepti quarterly and plasma infusions, Gammunex-C monthly. I was proud of my team because they have gone above and beyond to help me with my quality of life, My doctors have shown me empathy and support to get me to a place of remission someday. as its all I've been dreaming about Post Covid. I had a large team consisting of ENT, Cardiologist, Neurologist, Immunologist, Primary Care, Pain Management, Pulmonary, Social worker, and a Therapist. Saint Lukes being unable to retain GREAT DOCTORS and Staff has caused me a great deal of pain and suffering. I have reached out to several supervisors at Saint Lukes looking for help and a plan to move forward but am constantly hit with voicemail inboxes. I am needing a team and network I can rely on to work with me and support my quality of life. Unfortunately, with Saint Lukes Plaza being unable to hold onto great doctors my care has fallen apart and put me in a dangerous situation. Sincerely, a casualty of their failed leadership

Fantastic experience: I had my breast reduction surgery with Dr.Jao and his team and everything was perfect. Dr. Jao and his team are kind , attentive, professional, educated , responsive and they listen to you. They made me comfortable and feel seen and heard. They did a great job on my breast. Negative experience: Purely awful. I waited sobbing in a ball for over two hours and yet people that got there smiling and laughing got in within 5 minutes of being there. I asked the receptionist to remove me so I can go to a different hospital, she scoffed and said I was close to getting called back and before I could ask her if it was too late to remove me she called someone on the phone to remove me giving me the ‘one second’ finger with sass. She even got my name wrong.

Negative experience: 9/22/24, Negative stars!!! Horrible, inhumane, took my son to ER, asked for help getting him inside, they said they were too short staffed, grown man, in severe pain, sweating, bent over, crying, throwing up, actually laying on the waiting room bathroom floor, 2.5 hours, not one nurse came to check on him never ever called him back, showed no signs of any empathy, Only about 7 people in the waiting room, 2.5 hours later over 30 people and nobody cared, I watched people from the waiting room that could walk going back to rooms, finally called North KC hospital, they said bring him in, they took him straight back, got him on a bed and started pain meds, and doing tests, I wouldn't take any human or anything to that ER ever again, disgusting and uncaring, unbelievable, maybe St Luke's should consider paying their employees more so they can get people to work there!!!!! And maybe they should interview their staff to see why they became a nurse in the first place. What has happened to you, ST LUKES? And yes, he has employer based health insurance!!! Fantastic experience: I gave birth at St. Luke's in August 2024 and couldn't speak more highly of the staff. As a first time mom, everything was scary and new, and each of my nurses made me feel comforted and safe in their care. I was so sad when every single one of my nurses left for their shift - but then the next shift started and they were just as amazing as the one before. The day I left the hospital, I spent 30 minutes sobbing and I think a lot of that had to do with being sad about leaving the amazing people who had helped me through one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I will forever be grateful to these amazing humans and could not recommend this hospital more! Special shoutout to Veronica & Tammy - the best of the best!

Negative experience: Took 11 hrs to be seen. Refused to give me blankets when cold. Receptionist was very rude and exclaimed "they don't have blankets for patients right now". This is extremely outrageous for a hospital to do and definitely needs a evaluation by the state on patient treatment.

Fantastic experience: From the time I checked in for surgery to the discharge , I felt very well taken care of. The student nurse, Maddie was especially kind and talked to me the whole time and calmed me. The nurse Emuly came in and told me she was going to be with me through surgery and Sally was especially kind and empathetic and that really scores big with me.

Hannah was the nurse who was with me for majority of my labor experience and she was truly amazing. Negative experience: Worst ER experience in the country. Bloody bandages spread around the waiting room, fecal matter on the floor and seats. I’ve been waiting 4+ hours to be seen for an inflamed ileostomy and chest pains. Haven’t seen a single employee use disinfectant or even a broom. How much do they pay the AI bots that boost these review scores?!

Fantastic experience: My experience at St Luke's on the Plaza was nothing short of exceptional. It might sound strange to say that I had a good time getting my hip replacement, but I actually did. Every staff member--from check in to pre-op nurses, to the docs. to post-op care to checking out at the end of the day--was joyful, attentive, friendly, and a pleasure to be around. The folks there clearly love their jobs, and their skill levels are superb.

Negative experience: Iam really not happy with this hospital my Dad had surgery in they didn't send him home with pain medication. The pharmacy said it was sent but not with a license doctor with a code. My Dad is in so much pain this the second day what is tge world coming to do they really care about they Patients. Negative experience: DO NOT GO TO ST. LUKE’S. I certainly won’t be returning. Let me tell you about my experience. I called St. Luke’s before my visit to confirm that my yearly preventative care visit would be fully covered. Then I received an unexplained bill, and over the past two months and many, many calls and wasted hours, St. Luke’s bureaucracy has not explained the bill or put me in touch in with someone who can help. Promises to call me back are not kept. People who are supposed to help patients are unreachable. Let me list just some of the issues I’ve had. The billing department will not help me, sending me instead to my doctor’s staff and the Perryman Primary Care business manager. Some of the people in billing were nice, some were very rude. The doctor’s staff have not returned my messages. I am unable to even leave a message with the business manager—the phone rings but no one ever picks up and there is no option to leave a message. I came to the reviews here on Google and saw that some people were directed to a patient advocate. So I tried that. I left a message a week ago and have received no response despite being told I would be contacted within 72 hours. These are just some of the problems I’ve had. This is a totally unacceptable way to treat patients, and I expect a much better, more organized back-office experience from a healthcare institution.

Positive experience: I was at the hospital for 8 days. By the 4th day, my back was in pain from the HORRIBLE bed. The staff could do nothing. All the beds were the same. On the 4th evening, I switched to the couch in the room and felt relief for the first time. On the 5th day, I contacted Walmart delivery "Spark Driver" to deliver a 10-inch air bed. But "Spark Driver" refused to deliver to my hospital room. I had to ask a relative to pick-up my order. And, when I put the airbed on top of my hospital bed... the RELIEF was a GAME CHANGER. I was able to fully appreciate the excellent care I received from the medical professionals BECAUSE I could think of something other than the pain from my hospital bed. The bed provided by the hospital soured my entire perspective prior to that point . Patients spend 75% of their time in bed but the beds provided by St Lukes are HORRID and PAINFUL. I would not be leaving the hospital feeling that I had received good care, if it were not for the airbed I bought. I do not recommend going to St Lukes on the plaza without buying a low rise airbed.

Negative experience: I was held hostage by multiple nurses, a physician, and “security” professionals last night, they apparently comprehend very little in regards to federal jurisdiction. Need to be treated and charged with federal crimes. Failed uphold federal jaw and would not proficiently uphold federal law. Needs to be shut down for federal audit.

Negative experience: I really hate that you have to give even 1 star to this nightmare hospital. I arrived at 1am to their ER and waited SIX hours to be taken back to a room. I reminded them multiple times that I felt like I was going to pass out and it was difficult to breathe. They ignored it. The original nurse neglected to record my blood pressure which apparently was dangerously low. I was unconscious in the ER waiting room when they called me. The nurses all treated me like less than human and collectively dug around in my arm 4 times in the same spot instead of just starting an IV that I TOLD THEM I was going to need. So now i have massive bruises on my arm. I waited an additional 5 hours for their "doctor" to say 10 words to me and discharge me. I never even saw him more than once. No one told me what had happened or what was wrong with me. A nurse gave the excuse that said "sometimes new nurses just forget a step in the triage process." For why they missed taking my BP when I got there. If I could afford to take legal action I absolutely would. This is the worst emergency room in Kansas City. Go to Shawnee Mission and save yourself time along with getting to actually feel like a human being during your stay.

Fantastic experience: Everyone here was wonderful to me, Especially the nursing and patient care staff who tended to me me for a week. No matter how many accidents or what ever they all still made me feel as if it was natural and I was not to blame. I even had one nurse, who was working an extra shift and was not MY nurse, took the time to check on me at the beginning and end of her shift. The care that I received was awesome

Fantastic experience: I had a gash on my head and went to the ER. They took me in right away. I had the nicest people ever! Very kind, helpful and knowledgeable. I even got a mint and a piece of gum I asked for! A nurse passing by -she doesn’t even work in that dept., heard me a brought me in the mint and then another one of the two nurses that were treating me a piece of gum, not knowing that I’d already gotten the mint! McKenzie was GREAT! Couldn’t have been nicer!

Negative experience: THIS PLACE is A JOKE.. ..if you're in REAL NEED of EMERGENCY CARE...you can sit down in the emergency room for up to FIVE HOURS after being checked in ...No one comes out every hour to check on the status of your condition..people are just lefted inside of the waiting room SCREAMING in pain in some cases...TRUMAN ( University Health) is 100 times better than this place.

Fantastic experience: I enjoyed world class medical care in St Lukes Hospital - Plaza. I had open heart surgery by John R Davis, MD on April 23, 2024. All of my care in ICU and the "post ICU" area, delivered by many different providers (nurses, aides, nurse practitioners, etc), was consistently provided with skill, consideration, and tenderness. I cannot imagine having had my treatment anywhere else! Again I say, World Class Care!

Fantastic experience: After being diagnosed with metastatic thyroid cancer in 2021, I left St. Luke's, and now get my care at Menorah Hospital in Overland Park. I did keep going to the St. Luke's Breast Center because they have always given me excellent care in a timely manner, and the Breast Center is only about a half mile from where I live.

Negative experience: Nursing staff in Labor and Delivery, Mommy and Baby side, as well as daytime information booth workers I would give 5 stars...but the overall hospital policy I would give a 1, if that. If you have a baby born after visiting hours they deny the family access. Absolutely insane! We had to fight security and front desk nurses station to get the GRANDMOTHER access to her daughter and new grandson 30 minutes after visiting hours had stopped (baby was born at 7pm visiting hours were over at 8pm). In the 20 plus years our family has been having babies, this was by far the worst experience we've had. Shameful to deny a family a once in a lifetime moment like this.

Negative experience: The surgeon was 5 stars and that’s about it. I was told I needed to prepay before my surgery. I was charged $3883.01. Turns out they based this on retail price, not insurance plan allowance. I only owed $353.68. After 5 weeks I was refunded $3529.33. My injury was stressful, having surgery is stressful. Having to pay $3883.01 was just icing. I am livid. NEVER again. In the 13 years my husband and I have been going to St Luke’s, we have spent an enormous amount of money and have always paid our balances immediately and in full. To be treated with this level of disrespect is 100% unacceptable. I will be calling to remove our names from mailing lists asking us for donations to the Heart Institute- seriously? And the reply provides a bogus link that isn’t real- concerns? I have no concerns- I simply stated facts. Wimpy, measly attempt to make yourself look better - true sign of loser

Negative experience: The nurses and doctors were great, very kind and helpful. The problem was I was told to be there by 9:00 am and was. We sat for four hours and finally got back to pre op where i sat for another 3 hours. Come to find out my surgery had been changed from 11:00 to 1:30. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS or would have made different arrangements. I sat and waited most of day and didn''t get home till 7:00 pm. My son and his girlfriend also waited all day as they did not want to leave me by myself. Needless to say we were not happy . It was not the doctors fault or nurses but scheduling. This is the second time this has happened. The other time was several years back and was with my husband who was in for heart surgery.

Negative experience: I have lost faith and confidence in that ER. Staff is often rude, dismissive, quick to blame me for my health problems, always in a hurry, misogynistic, ego-driven, reluctant to answer my questions, accused me of drug-seeking, talking over me, minimizing my discomfort and pain, showing ZERO compassion and understanding, treating me like a nuisance, downright mean, and judgemental. I read on my discharge papers big errors in my list of medications. Nurse did not even discuss them with me! In the past a nurse has and deleted the ones I am no longer taking, yet they still appear, including one I stopped in 2021. I go there with the hope of at least getting help and leave frustrated, dismayed and in pain. I wonder if these people's training has been adequate and if their personalities are suited for the job.

Positive experience: Nurses are hit and miss whether you get a nice one. Dr Helzberg, my liver doctor makes up for all the other staff. He is very kind, honest and caring. I have seen him 5+years and is absolutely the best doctor ever at St Luke's Plaza.
